Kid-friendly vacation rentals in Ames

Our only regret was the short length of our stay (overnight), as it would've been fun to spend a day relaxing & exploring the town. Lovely, thoughtful update of a home with history. Grateful to have stayed and enjoyed it. Perfect accommodation & respite from long hours of driving.

This property was perfect. Angela and Steve have out done themselves. This is the best stocked kitchen I’ve seen in an AIRBNB. The colors of the home were welcoming and cozy. Clean, comfy, and quaint. Thank you for having us a guests.

This was a meet in the middle location for my my family and it was perfect. The place was super cute and had tons of character. we absolutely loved our stay. 🖤🖤🖤🖤

We were in town for a baseball tournament and wanted extra room to be able to relax. We were able to have some home cooked meals, the kids were able to burn off steam, and everyone got a good nights sleep! Hosts were prompt and friendly with a water heater issue and were flexible with our checkout time when we got tournament details late in the evening. Would recommend and stay again!

This is the second time we have stayed with Clinton and Jackie and both times were amazing. Home was perfect for our family as far as rooms, and the fact that it is dog friendly is a HUGE plus. They communicate very well, are responsive and have a great well maintained home that is in the middle of everything in Des Moines. I would recommend over and over again and plan to stay with them if we have anything in the area in the future.

comfortable & convenient! provided a great home base for visiting Iowa State. loved the walkability to historic downtown Ames & easy drive to campus. great decor, clean, clear instructions and easily accessible extra towels and linens, coffee, tea and cooking basics. easy parking right out front and in-unit laundry was an extra perk.

I stayed for an extended period while working in Des Moines. Access is easy and the location is quite comfortable. Greg lives downstairs and is very friendly and accommodating, but not nosey or bothersome in the least. I could come and go as I pleased with convenient garage parking and separate access. I messed up and failed to reserve this place for next year when I have to do this again, as I would definitely stay here if it were available. Everything you need is there. I have a plethora of suits that are quite heavy, and I worried I'd break the closet rod. Greg came up with a rolling clothes rack for the bedroom. He just happened to have one of those on hand. The only downside is that the home is near the bottom of a hill that can be an issue in icy weather. The road is very narrow and just enough to squeeze by oncoming cars. There are 17 or 18 steps to get to the apartment from the garage, so that may be a problem for some guests, but I had no issues with that at all.

Great place for us. Had essentials needed. Host was responsive with communication, check in easy. Iowa State University short and easy distance. Basement area is private and had its own bathroom. Close to Mucky Duck which had great food. Plan to be back. Craig

Jeffry’s place was great!! It was a great location with lots to do in a walkable distance! It was also a walkable distance to the location of our concert which was super nice! The location also felt super safe which was great. The apartment was clean and well kept. Jeffry was super communicative and gave clear instructions about everything. He made sure to check in with how our stay was and was willing to give recommendations about whatever we needed! Wonderful place!!

We had a great stay for a week in this Airbnb. The space was clean, comfortable, and well-maintained, which made for a pleasant stay. The location was convenient. However, one of the beds was broken, which made it a bit uncomfortable for the person using it, but we managed. Overall, it was a great experience and I’d recommend this place for others looking for a cozy spot.

Had a lovely stay at Jeff's place! The condo was lovely, nicely decorated and comfortable. We felt welcome right away with a nice card from Jeff and some snacks. We had everything we needed at the condo including a comfortable bed and pull out sofa and a full kitchen. Light sleepers may want to bring a noise machine or ear plugs as the downtown bar crowd can be a little noisy on the weekends. We would love to stay here again the next time we're in Des Moines!

I booked Kyles place at 9:30 @ night, thats pretty last minute, didnt phase them, even when i had a hard time figuring out how to get the keys out of the lockbox, Kyle answered and got me right in, it was beautiful and peaceful, just what i was looking for, thank you Kyle :)

NIce industrial/loft setting, clean and well appointed. It was easy walking distance to restaurants and bars downtown. We enjoyed our stay and would stay at this location again.

Great place, had everything. Close to downtown but 10th floor so no noise Had everything you could think of. Will be back.

Justin's place was perfect for my stay. It was downtown, skywalk accessible, close to event center, restaurants, grocery store, etc... The only thing that was confusing was getting in and finding the apartment. I'd never been there before. I got a little thrown off by the entry description: "When you enter the lobby you'll see the elevators behind a glass enclosed entrance. Go to the door and enter the passcode for access to the elevator." The elevator glass entrance actually uses an RFID keychain reader and the passcode given is used for the outside sidewalk entrance on the east side of the building. Then when I got to the floor off the elevator there are a bunch of blank doors (I assume this was an old hotel) that don't have any room numbers on them, so I was a little confused if I was in the right spot. I didn't walk far enough down the hall to realize that multiple rooms had been converted to apartments and that there are only about 3 doors on the floor that are used.
