Vacation rentals with a fireplace in Midlothian

A brilliant place to stay as a small family. It’s not slap bang in Edinburgh but all the better for it: blissfully quiet (you really cannot hear the airport), a genuinely beautiful garden to relax in, but just 5 minutes drive from the free park and ride, which is 20 minutes into central Edinburgh. And made all the better by hosting from Robert, who was super friendly, a genuine pleasure to chat to, but without being at all intrusive. Would firmly recommend.

The East Wing of Islay House was very spacious and comfy. It was clean and tidy and did not lack any amenities. Sandra provided firewood for the fireplace and plenty of local information. The village of Pencaitland is quiet an peaceful with a shop/petrol station within walking distance and lots of short walks. There were lots of longer walks within 12-30 mins, including those in Edinburgh. Even better if: queen or king bed instead of double bed, description and external photos more accurately reflect that the accommodation is part of a larger house, and it is made clear whether or not both sets of gates can be shut to provide a full secured outside space for dogs. Overall we were very happy with our stay and would recommend :).

We really enjoyed Kiera’s place! It was as described and well heated in the Scottish winter! The parking was convenient and the house was not far from public transport links into Edinburgh centre. Only note was most cabinets and dressers had host’s items in so there wasn’t a lot of space for our own storage. But overall a very nice space and good value for being so close to Edinburgh. Thank you very much!! Xx

Heathers place is in a lovely location with stunning views from the rear garden, the property is equally as nice , clean and tidy and the kitchen is well equipped, would definitely book again

We stayed at Jacqui’s place to attend our daughter’s wedding in Edinburgh. It was a perfect choice, really great location. So tranquil, relaxing with beautiful views and yet only a stones throw away from the city. The property was very clean, bright and comfortable. Jacqui was a great host, helpful and responsive to our queries. Will definitely stay here again!

Considering how important this building is historically it’s amazing that they let people stay overnight and cook in there! It’s very peaceful except on two evenings a group led by a reenactor were rather enthusiastic beneath the window! Only lasted ten minutes and it wasn’t later than 8.30pm. The bathroom gets rather chilly after 11pm when the heating goes off! A minor inconvenience and there is a real gas fire in the bedroom!

We absolutely loved our say at Susie and Amit’s apartment. Not only did their lovely space make us feel right at home but they did so much to make us feel welcome and are extremely generous hosts. The flat was spacious, clean and comfortable and was a space where we loved spending time throughout the day. The flat came with an incredible view of the city, and was so convenient as it’s right in the heart of the old town. We have stayed in Edinburgh many times and thanks to Susie and Amit’s amazing hospitality, this was easily the best experience we have had in the city. Thank you both so much for such a wonderful stay!

What a perfect apartment, ideal for our family, we found it to be even better than the listing suggested! Spotlessly clean with great quality furniture including beds, bedding, pillows and lovely thick towels. The kitchen was particularly well stocked, our 5 year old was delighted with the little boxes of cereals and such a treat to find a Selkirk Bannock too! Would definitely stay again, we had a lovely relaxing stay

Magical location and view. Lovely spacious apartment gorgeously decorated. We didn’t want to leave. Soft beds and a great kitchen to cook our family meals. Outstanding accomodation. We highly recommend.

Angie’s place was fantastic for our first visit to Edinburgh! The location right off the Royal Mile made it easy to walk to almost anywhere we hoped to visit. The place was clean and the perfect size for our 3 person party. We would recommend Angie’s place to anyone visiting Edinburgh!

Fab stay, the location is incredible, through an almost secret door and up three flights of wide and well lit stairs. The apartment faces the other side of the mile.. into a courtyard, so it's quiet. There is a low distant hum of the local restaurants extractor fan, but absolutely no other noise during our stay. I would say it's almost peaceful which is remarkable considering it's incredible location. Taxis can be used right up to the door, or a short walk to the station. We stayed with our two kids, aged 8 & 2. One mattress on the two singles beds was a little past it's prime, but would suit a child no issues. The main bedroom (king) and the other single felt new. We would visit again in a heartbeat

Fantastic location close to shopping and restaurants. Walkable to the Castle and everything you are looking for.

we have just left Howford house after a lovely 3 night weekend stay to celebrate my husbands 40th. we were a family of 14 adults, 2 children and a newborn baby and we had the most peaceful comfortable stay. the house is fantastic, it has everything you need and the location although super private and peaceful, it was near restaurants, the coop supermarket, Traquair House and land which we got discounted because we were house guests, and lots of walks and hikes. the surrounding acres were stunning with the frost and autumn leaves. we all loved our stay, the kids (and the adults) didn't want to leave. special thanks to Elaine the housekeeper who was brilliant with her communication and help. we will recommend and be back in the future.

Entering this well appointed, beautiful home, there is a feeling of warmth and relaxation. The skylights bring in the natural light to the bathrooms. The Kitchen is modern and sleek, with everything you need to make a first class meal. The visually stunning, spacious backyard has a wonderful garden. There is a park just behind the house. My daily jog would lead me down to the beach. Here i would do a quick cold plunge- rejuvenating my body. The area is surrounded by a world renowned collection of golf clubs. The Longniddry golf club is a short walk and is a fun track. Thank you for being great hosts.

Great stay at Suzanna's. She is a quality host who was able to meet our expectations and be very responsive. I highly recommend it!
