Family-friendly vacation rentals in Watauga Lake

Phenomenal place to stay!! More than we expected. If looking for a getaway and do some skiing this is the place to stay. Nancy was so helpful and always checked in on us to make sure we were good. If staying in the winter months for some skiing, definitely make sure you are in a 4WD.

The Wild Thing was everything we had hoped for in a very private, quiet and amazing location. The house is situated overlooking Grandfather Mountain to the west. The view from the deck is awesome! We enjoyed relaxing in the hot tub and the modern gas fireplace provided a lovely ambiance. The hosts were super helpful and easy to communicate with if needed. We will certainly return in the autumn season to enjoy the fall colors! Cheers!!

This little cabin was in a gorgeous location! Right next to the snow tubing and not far from grandfather mountain! The views from the hot tub were amazing! Brought our two dogs and they loved it! The patio with the hot tub was fenced in so the dogs were able to hang with us while we were relaxing in the hot tub! Definitely would recommend and plan to come back!

Will was a great host and very responsive. His home was beautiful, had great amenities and most importantly clean and taken care of! Most will need 4x4 to get up and down the driveway especially it has snowed or is icy.

This was easily one of my most favorite vacations of all time. The tranquility and the peace that Nancy is beautiful property provided will be a memory that I will always cherish with my kids. Outside of the property, we were fortunate enough to take a pottery lesson with her and my daughter mentioned several times to me how this was one of her favorites experiences with me. In addition, they were kind enough to share an opportunity to hike down to their private land in the gorge gorge for a peaceful and fun Saturday afternoon. What an adventure it was and well worth it. overall, we will definitely be looking at coming back and absolutely be sharing this magical place with friends and family.

Lovely home in Beech mountain only a mile or so from the slopes, fully equipped kitchen, nice comfortable beds and linens, great functioning, hot tub.

This was, by far, the cleanest Airbnb I’ve ever had. I’m talking not a speck of dust - not even in the corners of the basement bathroom, folks! We booked Janice’s place last minute from a hotel after finding our original rental was inaccessible. She was gracious enough to allow early check in and welcomed our dogs without exorbitant fees. The location is quiet and peaceful yet central to everything. Beds were comfortable (dog bed included 🥰) and everything was simple & smooth, which meant a lot after the debacle we’d been through. Janice is a host who has gone the extra mile. Her place is incredibly well maintained and you’ll want for nothing. If you are looking for a rental where you can truly relax, this is the one. I only wish we’d booked this as our original choice so we could’ve enjoyed it longer. Would stay here again and again, 5 stars doesn’t begin to do it justice 💛

My husband and I stayed for a month at the house and absolutely loved it. It was peaceful and beautiful with the music of a rushing streamf filling the house everyday when we opened up the French doors. It was refreshing to see that the house actually matched all of the photos and the amenities that were listed. It was great to have a grocery store and a restaurant within 15 minutes of the house. we loved it so much. we're going to come back again next year.

Great place, walkable to sugar mountain lodge. The bed was very comfy. It was about an 8 minute walk or 1 minute drive to the lodge. And the ski locker was a great amenity! Will stay here again for sure!

The cabin was just as pictured and was the perfect location for visiting Banner Elk and Boone. We had a very relaxing weekend with our pups. The laundry room had a large crate and linens for the dogs. The laundry area was huge and was roomy enough for our second dog. Ha ha....she is a chihuahua. The cabin was easy to locate and was perfect for us. The weather was not in our favor but the fireplace kept us cozy. You can't go wrong renting this place if you are in the Banner Elk area. Great Value. Would definitely stay again.

Lanis place was the perfect cabin getaway. Hot tub worked great and plenty of sleeping options. Stocked with everything you need in the kitchen and plenty of games. Fireplace was awesome. It was scenic and peaceful in the trees. Be aware the road to get there is a little scary if you’re not used to driving unpaved and winding roads. But perfect for those who want to get away and be far enough away , while still remaining 15 minutes from civilization. Lots of cute shops around, the grandfather winery was great.

The home was cozy and pet friendly. Loved the cottage furnishings. Theresa was a gracious host who checked on us when we got there to let us know if we needed anything to call her. Check in and out was simple and easy. Will definitely stay again.

Great location, beautiful area. House is laid out well which made for an enjoyable stay. This was a perfect home-away-from-home place to be. We'd definitely rent this treasured spot again! Angela was an excellent host!

Chuck was a great host and provided a quick tour of the property, with some really cool history. Valda was super responsive and very friendly. Their dog Robel even provided our dog with some much needed company. We felt very welcomed. Thank you Valda and Chuck!

Beautiful, quiet, private and peaceful. We had the best views, nothing was disappointing. Every morning waking up w/ stunning views. Perfect location and everything we needed was at the house. I would highly recommend this place to anyone who wants seclusion and serenity. So sad I’m going back home.

A pristine home in an amazing private community. Full equipped with kitchen, bath, and extras. Always great recommendations and responsive to questions. Highly recommend for families that enjoy nature and privacy.

We had a great stay at this condo, Avery was very helpful and communicative and answered any questions I had very quickly. The views were stunning, the area was beautiful, we would definitely love to come again.

What a great place! Also the host was very kind and great communication! Very nice place and only 10 minutes from Sugar Mountain. Wonderful amenities including pool, hot tub, sauna, library, shop, workout room etc etc. Only (potential) issue which is no fault of the owners is that this is a large 10 story condo complex. On busy days, especially around the weekend it can get very busy during check in and check out and you have to park outside of the guard shack and get shuttled back to the condo. Again, we didn’t really have much of a hang up but others did-just something to keep in mind. Fantastic place, and well equipped! Thank you again!

Nice house but well maintained. In a gated community which is a plus and access in and out was super easy. In walking distance to an upscale/famous restaurant. In strong proximity to Boone and Blowing Rock with a very quick drive to the Parkway.

Whitney & Jay were great hosts—responsive and helpful when we had questions. The space was just as shown/described in the listing. My family of four enjoyed our stay during spring break and our first time skiing during Sugar Mountain’s end-of-season March Madness. We made such wonderful memories here. Be sure to enjoy the most stunning sunrises and sunsets from the balcony.
