The Thunderbird tiny house is located on the Thunderbird Ranch about 13 miles west of Mountainair, New Mexico. We are surrounded by the Cibola National Forest on all four sides. The property is owned by the Wester's and has been in their family for almost a hundred years. We also have other vacation homes for rent so if you want to bring another family we can accommodate that. The tiny house has a queen size bed and a twin bed as well as a small sofa. https://youtu.be/mfzSKlxqdmk
The home is secluded and quiet. Hikes during the day. Stargazing at night by the chiminaya fire pit. Quiet solitude mountain retreat.
We are unique by being surrounded by national forest and being near century old mission ruins.
  • Our stay at the tiny Thunderbird house was great! We were looking for a place off the beaten path to crash for the Balloon Fiesta in Albuquerque. David was an extremely gracious host and the house was cute as could be. We will definitely be back if we are up that way again.

    Melodie2019-10-06T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house is simply perfect for when you want to enjoy the outdoors but don't want to camp. I love that it's close to town and has easy access to trails and the mountains. My dogs love sitting on the patio. We woke up our second night to a stellar jay singing outside the kitchen window. The space is well designed and there are thoughtful touches throughout. I especially enjoy the area behind the house where the big tree is. I hung my hammock and enjoyed a lazy afternoon with my book. I look forward to another visit in the spring.

  • The Thunderbird Tiny House is a fantastic place to stay! It is adorable, and the attention to detail made us feel at home. It is very secluded, with great hiking nearby, in a beautiful forest. I would recommend this place, and I hope to stay there again sometime.

    Lana2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had the most wonderful time! Truly a gem and honestly much more than we expected. We were worried how surrounded by trees it would be, but it was absolutely perfectly secluded. It was so nice for Rango to have some off leash freedom that he's not used to. We enjoyed the town and the Sunflower festival but just can't get over what a great stay we had. This will surely be our new weekend getaway from the hustle and bustle of the city. Thank you so much for your hospitality and for taking such pride in your beautiful place.

    Jasmine2019-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • This is a fantastic little house and the location is amazing! Though small, the kitchen allowed me to cook meals easily and the layout doesn't feel crowded. I spent a lot of time sitting on the patio with my dogs and just enjoying the outdoors. There's hiking available right from your door. I thought about having a fire but was too lazy to leave my chair in the evenings. The queen bed is comfortable and I liked having good light in the loft so I could read in bed. There are plenty of places to hike and interesting history in the area so I look forward to future visits.

    Kate2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • Such a great place to get away from it all so serene and peaceful host was so hospitable and tiny house was so clean and an amazing use of space.

  • David's place is absolutely awesome! If you want to get off the grid, but have all the comforts of home, you can't get any better than this! A beautiful visit thank you David!

  • A-MAZ-ING. There’s no other words. A splendid tiny house in the middle of 100 acres of private forest. Not even a single sound of human civilization, we had the best vacation ever (and it means a lot because we traveled the world). The tiny house is much bigger than expected. It feels very spacious and we had all we need. Whenever you stay at David and Cynthia’s tiny house, take your chairs down to the big tree and spend hours looking at the beauty of the world. No word can describe how life changing this stay was for us. Thank you David and thank you Cynthia. You’re amazing guests and we were blessed to meet you

At 6500 feet we have cool nights and warm summer days. You will have a large patio with furniture , gas grill, and a fireplace.
You will have your room with a private entrance, bath, TV, heating and cooling system. You will share or very large patio which has a gas grill, dining table and fireplace. There’s plenty of parking and lots of room to get out and stretch your legs. We will try our best to accommodate you with any other needs you might have, washing machine, telephone service, ETC.
Our house is 6 miles north of the little town of Mountainair. It is a very private and quite location with no close neighbors. The house is 400 yards of the pavement but it’s a good smooth graveled road
  • The beauty of this space is outshone only by the graciousness of the hosts! If you are lucky enough to stay here you will get to experience a stunning home, custom-designed by a genuine craftsman (the host!), a lovely space to stay in a gorgeous location, and some of the truly nicest people you will ever meet! I can't wait to go back - if you are anywhere near Mountainair stay at Wayne's place, you will be glad you did! :)

  • Gorgeous location!!! Perfect place to get away from it all. I loved sitting on the screened in balcony and watching the mule deer drink from the pond. There are a few Elk bulls that like to call out at night as well.

Four seasons hosting :) A yurt is a round, domed structure which was originally used by the nomadic Mongolian people as an easily moved shelter. The roomy 26' diameter yurt is a modern version of the traditional design with added features to make it warm and cozy. Separate facility with access to a washer/dryer, shower and toilet for your convenience. This is the perfect experience to enjoy glamping with your family and friends.
This is the perfect space for intimate experiences with your group. Five comfortable bunk beds with blankets and pillows, allows ten people to spend time together. There is a comfortable fire stove for those cold winter nights. Included is a mini-fridge, coffee-pot, toaster, dishes, silverware, pans microwave, grill, crock-pot and lighting to fit your specific needs. There is a separate bathroom/laundry room which most yurts do not accommodate for and running, drinkable water. The yurt also includes outside seating so that you may enjoy the stunning mountain views.
We are just a few miles from Fourth of July Campground, in the famous Manzano mountains. Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument is within twenty minutes and all three ruins can easily be turned into a day trip back through history. Travertine Falls is a 1.5 mile moderately trafficked out and back trail located 30 minutes north near Tijeras, New Mexico that features a waterfall and is good for all skill levels. The trail is primarily used for hiking and is best used from March until October. Dogs are also able to use this trail but must be kept on leash. The Manzano Wilderness is a once in a lifetime experience where you can be in complete solitude with only the distractions of peaceful wilderness.
  • The yurt is an excellent way to experience camping in a way more comfortable spot than a tent. Plenty of space and great location to be secluded yet close to fun activities. Be sure to follow the detailed directions and the yurt is easy to find.

    Trey2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in a yurt is a lot of fun! You wake up in the morning and the first thing you see out the door is a beautiful view of the mountains. The wood stove was more than enough to keep us warm when it was below freezing outside. Stacy was helpful. Would stay again next time I’m in the area!

    Vy2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • I loved this yurt. The night we stayed was very cold, but the wood burning stove and all the extra blankets Stacy provided kept us all swarm. The yurt has everything you might need for glamping. Including board games and coloring supplies for kids. We slept well and my kids were delighted to hear the animals outside. Coyotes maybe? Also, Stacy is a magnificent host. Before we arrived, she started a fire to get the place warmed up for us. We arrived very weary after a long day of traveling and some in our group weren't feeling well. Stacy made adjustments for us to help us settle in and be more comfortable. Her kindness and thoughtfulness turned a potentially difficult night into a calm and restful one. She's wonderful.

    Jessie2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Stacy was very communicative and her yurt was a dream. Would recommend!

  • Surprisingly awesome place, and a wonderfull host.

  • Nice quiet place with a lot of stars.

    Ford2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • Feel like glamping with a larger group? Then this yurt is for you! It had plenty of room for our group of 9, plus many games, kitchen amenities, and a shared bathroom. Though there were other guests on the property, we rarely saw them.

    Katie2019-10-14T00:00:00Z

What I love about this space is that I never tire of the views, whether it be the mountains, the mesas or the sky. The sunsets are breathtaking and the nightly skies wondrous. Incredible expansive views of the Cibola National Forest.

  • Somewhat remote, but accessible, location. Absolutely beautiful setting with great views of the mountains. The casita was lovely. We will definitely be back. And, Karen was an excellent hostess..

    Forrest2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The Casita at Two Ponyz is wonderful. If you are looking for a calm and comfortable space where you can unplug and reconnect with what really matters- this is the place. Such a beautiful location, and a luxurious casita! There are more thoughtful touches than I can list. You are close to the three locations that compromise the amazing Salinas Mission Pueblo National Monument. You are also close to Mountainair, with galleries, a surprisingly nice grocery, and the folk art masterpiece- the Shaffer Hotel. (An FYI- at present, Mountainair is dry, so while you can do well picking up groceries at BStreet in Mountainair- if you want beer and/or wine for watching the sunset, pick it up before hand. Youare only a couple hours from the “High Points” of New Mexico, so it’s a good place for day tripping.

    Susan2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • A visit to Karen’s is a special treat in a special location! Gorgeous big open skies and quick access to nature trails this is a beautiful retreat that nature lovers will appreciate.

    David2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was amazing! The Casita was of the same caliber as the view and the stars; amazing! Karen is a thoughtful gracious host. The Casita was spic and span with everythinghad everything we needed. Two Ponyz Ranch was the perfect spot for our New Mexico getaway.

    Kristin2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Two Ponyz was amazing. Karen has thought of everything - the kitchen is stocked with tools and basics, nice toiletries (in case you forgot yours or travel extra light), linens were great, beds comfy, and the casita is really well designed and laid out. The ranch is wonderfully quiet and the nights are dark - we saw the Milky Way and shooting stars!! Karen even went the extra mile to make our daughters (7 year old twins) feel welcome, and they so enjoyed petting the dogs and seeing the horses. When we weren’t stargazing or relaxing on the casita’s portales, we visited some of the nearby ruins, enjoyed shopping in the Mountainair market and ate lunch in the historic dining room of the Shaffer Hotel. We are definitely planning to come back!

    Amy2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Karen was super kind and accommodating! Would certainly recommend to future guests!

    David2019-06-19T00:00:00Z
  • Magical place and wonderful host! The house is gorgeous and very nicely appointed - comfy bed, stocked kitchen. The remote location makes it idyllic and Karen was extremely helpful with tips and guidance.

    Mary2019-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a delightful retreat for anyone seeking rest, reflection, quiet, nature, and beauty. New Mexico is enchanting, but never more than I experienced at Two Ponyz. Karen is a perfect host, and the property is even better than described in the listing. If you're looking for a lot of touristy things to do.. restaurants, nightlife, etc. -- perhaps look elsewhere. But if you want the magic of the high mountain desert, enjoyed from a truly comfortable and well-appointed home, then this is the ideal place for you.

A writers haven or if you just want to get away and get "unplugged" from the hustle and bustle of life stresses. Bird watching , hiking, close to ruins. There is a sun porch that welcomes you to view our water fall filled with fish, water lilies and visiting birds and deer. Also on occasion you might get to see a Lama walk by.
You will have access to the front of our home which is equivalent to a nice size 1 bedroom Apartment. Note: cats [2] are not inside home.
At 7000 feet the light clear air with intense sun and more stars than you have ever seen will make memories. Pinion/juniper trees all around us . A bird watchers paradise with migrating cranes and snow geese passing by. Lots of hummingbirds and bluebirds, pinion jays, crows. We also have a huge Canyon that runs the length of our 40 acres ! There are Three " Ruins" that are close by that makes for a great day trip. National Forest five miles away from our home. CAUTION : The high thin air can induce relaxations .
  • Doris has a lovely home in Mountainair. It is a bit off the beaten path but the space is gorgeous and welcoming. Doris and her husband were also great conversationalists, and we really enjoyed chatting upon arrival. The room was clean and inviting and she had snacks and coffee for us in the morning! If we come back to New Mexico we would absolutely stay again!

    Sarah2019-10-05T00:00:00Z
  • Doris and Ron are generous hosts. They generously provided me with tons of private time, full access to kitchen and living room areas, and a great bedroom space. The property is wonderful: large with lots of quirky spaces to discover, remote and yet close to wonderful sites and not far from ALB. Ron kindly took me on a walking tour of the property a few times, including the canyon below. Both Doris and Ron have been in the area for a quite a while so they are fonts of knowledge about Mountainair and its environs, as well as NM more generally. I really felt like I had space to breath, wander, and quiet time to do some work as well.

    Russell2019-06-06T00:00:00Z
  • Doris and Ronnie live in a beautiful nature setting that joins a national forest. There are places to walk around and so much to look at and take pictures of including 2 cool cats and lots of sculptures and art pieces. They made me feel like a family member!! They had snacks and fruit and drinks and a breakfast biscuit. They told me where to explore in town. Their house is beautiful and spotless and I had a private room and bathroom to myself. I slept great!! They live about 5 miles down a dirt road but my Prius handled it fine!! It was a wonderful experience!!! Bring your camera!!

    Frona2019-05-12T00:00:00Z
  • Doris's place is secluded, quiet and feels like home. Doris and Ron are both accomplished artist and great conversationalist. You feel like you are visiting family, and you hope when you leave you get to visit them again someday. I loved all of the art work, watching their funny outdoor cat, and having a salad from the arugula in their yard. Their place is well off the beaten path and about .4 mile farther than my GPS designation for the location, so don't give up - just keep going and you will get there.

    Patricia2017-05-14T00:00:00Z
  • We greatly enjoyed our stay at this interesting, eclectic, clean and comfortable home. It is about 9 miles from the center of Mountainair, much of that over maintained dirt roads. It's centrally located for seeing the various far-flung parts of Salinas Pueblo Mission National Monument. There is no grocery store in Mountainair now, so be sure to bring groceries with you to the listing. The countryside is lovely and the Mountainair folk art, including murals and mosaics, is definitely worth a visit.
