Just north of the city of Lubbock, the Mackenzie Recreational Area is a 542-acre park offering a variety of recreational activities. One highlight of the park is Prairie Dog Town, where you can watch from afar as black-tailed prairie dogs (ground squirrels) pop in and out of hundreds of burrows.
