Kid-friendly vacation rentals in Appenzell Ausserrhoden

We were allowed to spend super nice days at Manuela's cottage for the second time. Everything was perfect again. The large garden was a highlight for young and old to play, discover or relax. We really appreciated the many toys for the kids. The house is also very lovingly decorated. Thank you very much dear Manuela.

johannes was a very forthcoming host, whenever we ve had an issue he was very quick in response. also did he offe us a refund since we have had some issues while staying. but since he resolved these greatly there is nothing to complain about. would again stay at his lovely house. thanks for hosting!

There were two of us in the beautiful part of Wendy and Sven's house. Wendy welcomed us and showed us the charming apartment in her Appenzell house. In the spacious kitchen we were able to cater perfectly, the fridge is large and there is plenty of dishes available. Great that there is also a dishwasher! Tabs, detergent, sponge, enough kitchen towels, everything available. Also plenty of towels and toilet paper. We didn't miss anything. We took beautiful hikes and had good food in neighboring Heiden. We also visited the Henry Dunant Museum in Heiden - very interesting! In the cozy living room, we were able to relax well and review our experiences. The ceilings and door frames are low because it is an old, very pretty, renovated Appenzell house, you have to be a little careful. We're looking forward to our next visit with Wendy and Sven!

I had an absolutely wonderful stay at Melina's place in Appenzell! The accommodation was incredibly cozy—immaculately clean, beautifully decorated, and filled with thoughtful touches that made it feel like a true home away from home. Waking up to the stunning views of the Swiss countryside was a dream, and the peaceful surroundings made for a perfect getaway. Melina was a fantastic host—warm, responsive, and full of great local recommendations. She made sure everything was perfect for my stay and went out of her way to ensure I felt welcomed. I highly recommend this Airbnb to anyone looking for a relaxing retreat in one of the most charming regions of Switzerland. I’ll definitely be back!

We stayed at this wonderful place for the 2nd time and enjoyed the 5 days very much. Here we feel very much at home and everything you need is available. The place is very clean, quietly located, cozily furnished, everything is available and Marlis is a super host! What more could you ask for? I'm sure we'll be back! Being able to experience the old New Year's Eve (Chlausen) in Urnäsch was an absolute highlight and very impressive. You can also do great, beautiful hikes in the area. The location where the cottage is located is really nice! You have a great view of the Säntis and can start hiking directly from the accommodation. The place was as described, only the curtains were a little too translucent for us. We were on site with two dogs and felt very comfortable :-)

We had a lovely family week in this cottage. It is small, but lovely small and it makes you feel right at home. Garden is beautiful, with stream cutting right through. It has two terraces, wood fired grill and lovely quite location away from neighbours. Location is superb as well to discover Lake Constance. Thank you.

The apartment is centrally located yet quiet. The train station, supermarket and bakery are a 5-minute walk away. The kitchen is very well equipped (including raclette oven and fondue caquelon). It is worth booking at least three nights to benefit from the best holiday card in Switzerland (including free return trip by train). We felt very comfortable with Hans and Hildegard and will come back.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this charming little Appenzeller apartment. Just like the picturesque town it’s located in, the home is equally beautiful and inviting. Irene and Bernhard were incredibly thoughtful hosts, providing everything we could possibly need during our stay. Since we stayed for three nights, we received the Appenzell Vacation Cards, which included a range of complimentary activities and gifts. We're happy to recommend this wonderful stay to others!

We enjoyed our vacation in the very clean and super-equipped apartment. We made many excursions by car and also used some hiking trails on site. We felt very welcome, were able to contact Michael at any time and got good excursion tips. We will be happy to come back!

We spent 9 nights in Brigitte's apartment, which is located above Appenzell (about 10 minutes' walk from the center) on the edge of the forest and offers a wonderful view of the Alpstein. Wonderfully quiet and close to nature. The granny flat of the farmhouse has recently been tastefully and gently renovated, with the well-equipped kitchen and bathroom being new and modern, while the large living room and bedroom are preserved in the old, characterful style. Brigitte is a very warm host. She provided us with current tips (for alpine lifts you have to get up early...;-) and answered our questions within a very short time. We were completely satisfied! Around Appenzell there is plenty to see and discover: taste alpine bitters, cheese factory, bake beavers, indoor pool, village tour, golf course Gonten, etc… Säntis with Schwägalp, Ebenalp with the Äscher, Kronberg and Hoher Kasten offer great hikes for everyone. Recommended.

I cannot think of a better place to stay when in Appenzell. The views are beautiful and Regula and her husband are very friendly. The apartment is immaculately clean, well equipped, and comfortable. Our children especially enjoyed seeing the cows, chickens, and playing with Blass. I would definitely recommend to anyone!

We had a blissful stay at Michael’s place overlooking the lake. As fans of architecture, we truly appreciated the thoughtfully designed space—every detail felt intentional and well planned. It was clear how much care and love went into creating this home, and we’re grateful to the hosts for sharing such a personal and special place with us. A very nice accommodation with a great view. The kitchen was well equipped, so you could easily cook for yourself. The hosts were friendly and helpful. Overall a pleasant stay.

Beautiful little apartment from which you can walk to everything important in Herisau. The amenities were great and nothing was missing. Parking spot outside the house is great.

The studio apartment is beautiful and spotless. We couldn’t have asked for a more central location, walkable to the old town, Abbey and the library among other great attractions. Given its central location, there is ambient noise on occasion which can easily be remedied for light sleepers by wearing ear plugs. Highly recommend this charming studio.

Very nicely renovated apartment in historic house in the middle of the village of Urnäsch. Susanne welcomed us in a very friendly way and was concerned about our well-being. The apartment is well equipped, also for children. We had a lovely few days here.

Large apartment that is well furnished with a kitchen, dishwasher and washer/dryer. The neighbourhood is also very quiet - all we could hear were birds chirping. We also appreciated the clear instructions given by Raphael and Dianna. Overall, this is a perfect place to stay if you want to explore the Appenzell region!

My apartment was in a great location. perfect for riding my bicycle. The apartment is very comfortable with everything one needs.

Overall, the place was very suitable. I'm used to a lot of space so coming to Europe (from Canada) there is always a bit of a sacrifice. Irene's place is very nice and has a great view but there are a few things you should know. First, it's an old boarding house with lots of stairs. You're staying on the top floor so you will have to carry your luggage up 5 flights of stairs. You have the entire space to yourself but Irene lives on the main floor. You're on the 3rd floor. There is laundry but it's in the basement and Irene charges 3 francs. Well worth it and you have pretty much exclusive access. The view is incredible and there is a little deck you can stand on and take in the view. Kitchen is new and has everything you need. Irene even left some bread, cheese, meats and yogurt out for me. The location is on a giant hill but so is most of Switzerland so nothing out of the ordinary. There is a small store up the street but most things require a vehicle to get around.
