“Tsubara”-calm traditional Kyoto Machiya house

OlgaRating, 5 stars6 days ago
What an amazing place to stay! You step back in time. The house looks full of history and has a small garden and outdoor tub! Koji and Eri are great hosts, friendly, responsive and welcoming. They have a lot of recommendations about the area. Just keep in mind that there are steep steps to the second floor and also if you’re very tall there is a possibility of head bumping :) The area itself is very convenient and we walked to many places of interest. Can recommend this property to any adventurous traveler!

Tsubaki Ann Kyoto - Renovated Traditional House

JackieRating, 5 stars4 weeks ago
We had a great stay at this Airbnb! The property is beautifully maintained, and one of the highlights was the serene koi ponds that added a peaceful, relaxing vibe to the entire experience. The space is thoughtfully designed with great amenities — coffee, sugar, salt, pepper, oil, butter, cookware, multiple sinks and separate bathroom areas made it super convenient for our group of 6. It was easy for several people to get ready at the same time without feeling crowded. The owner also went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable, even bringing us air fresheners — such a thoughtful and responsive host. Overall, it’s a perfect spot for a group or anyone looking for a calm, well-equipped place to stay. Highly recommend!

Guesthouse Hana - Bamboo Villa

KellyRating, 5 stars5 days ago
Our family of four had a wonderful stay at Hana’s machiya, it was a highlight of our trip. It was much more comfortable than staying in a hotel and we got the experience of living in an authentic Japanese style home. The house is beautiful, tastefully furnished, well-equipped, extremely clean and well-maintained. We enjoyed our morning coffee and tea with a view of the lovely Japanese garden. The hosts were extremely responsive and thoughtful. We would love to come back and stay there again.

Private Villa GuestHouse SagaArashiyama【Licensed】

KristinRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Our family of 6, including 2 kids, loved the location for its proximity to the bamboo forest and Arashiyama shopping area. The space was immaculately clean and hosts even turned on the living room AC for our arrival. The kitchen was well stocked and my son loved having video games to play. The bicycles were a great way to go see some temples. One warning is because it’s such a residential area, it seemed like many restaurants closed early so we got stuck eating konbini dinner one of the nights - our fault!

We had a wonderful stay at the Cozy Cottage. The house was very clean and spacious. For us, the best part was the location. It truly felt like we were locals living in the community where Cozy Cottage is located. All of the staff were also very friendly and helpful. We had a wonderful time, and the stay definitely made our time in Kyoto extra special. I would recommend this stay to anyone looking for a bit of a slower pace in Kyoto.

I can’t say enough great things about Uzu’s place. It was so clean and comfortable. When we checked in she was very thorough about the house and also about the surrounding areas and places to go. She had a great hand drawn map of the area that we actually used a lot! The traditional beds we chose to sleep in were very comfortable. Everything in the house is labeled which makes it very easy to find things. Uzu went out of her way to show us local restaurants and spots to try. She is a very friendly host that cares about making her guests stays very enjoyable! One thing we found was that it was a bit out of the way of central Kyoto. However, if you want to experience a quiet traditional neighborhood this is the spot! It’s about a 10 min walk to the closest train station or bus stop. Outside of the house are also LUUP bikes/scooters you can rent through an app. I would de

Kyomachiya Amanogawa [Maison à Kyoto Amanogawa]

NicoleRating, 5 stars1 week ago
Seiko’s place feels like a home. It’s pretty and quirky and cozy enough that every afternoon during our 5 night stay, my husband and I, along with our two teens, would head back to the apartment to put our feet up for an hour or so before heading back out. The shower has great pressure and plenty of hot water. The air conditioner works well and we were happy to have it for a summer visit in Kyoto. The location is great for getting around but also quiet. Things to note are that the bedrooms get bright in the morning and that the traditional beds may be uncomfortable if you like a soft bed.

#3 spacious 46㎡ apartment central Kyoto

MattRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
We had a wonderful stay in this very clean and comfortable home, which had everything we needed—whether we were relaxing inside or heading out to explore. After a week of travel, we especially appreciated having laundry facilities and helpful supplies on hand. The space felt roomy for the two of us, especially compared to other places we’ve stayed in Japan. May and Milan were very responsive, and the detailed instructions made it easy to use the Japanese appliances. The location was excellent, just a 10-15 minute walk to Nishiki Market, with plenty of great restaurants and cafes nearby. We’d love to return and would happily stay at May’s place again!
