Places to stay in La Chapelle-Montbrandeix
  • Lovely little cottage sensitively renovated keeping its character but all our needs provided for. Well equipped. Bottle of wine on arrival and apples from the garden a nice touch. Location about three miles from Firbeix easy to miss the turning for Les Bordes if arriving in the dark. About 45 minutes from Limoges Airport. Really enjoyed our stay here.

  • Very pleasant stay in this small stone house in a quiet area.

  • If you want a quiet get-away with beautiful walks in a peaceful hamlet this place is for you. The house is very well equipped with all you need in the kitchen, including basic food stuffs. The bed was very comfortable and we loved the personal touches throughout the characterful house. There is plenty of garden space to sit outside. Maryse is a welcoming host who gave us great tips about the area focusing on what our interests were. We had a lovely chat with her on arrival. It is clearly a much loved house. The surrounding area is beautiful. The village of Mialet, about a 10 minute drive away, has a butcher and baker among other shops as well as a restaurant that serves good food run by an English couple. There are other restaurants within half an hour that offer great food as well. We thoroughly recommend Maryse’s house as a wonderful place to get away in some beautiful countryside.

  • The check-in was very straightforward, Maryse is a very accommodating hostess. The equipment is nothing missing, we had everything to be happy. Milk, a bottle of wine, coffee, sugar, enough cooking utensils, also tea, water, everything was ready for us. The small village captivates by the absolute tranquility and by the friendliness of the inhabitants (whether humans or animals). The little black cat named Minette who has chosen the house as a domicile is very cuddly and absolutely lovely. Everything was very good here, the beds were very comfortable, so we often slept longer than planned;) From time to time, a large black neighbor's dog came to visit, but he is also very nice and can be accompanied without problems back to the property. We enjoyed our holiday very much and Maryse was very patient in explaining until we understood everything as our french is not that good. We would gladly go back anytime again!

  • Maryse's place is now our second home in Les Boards, always great to come back. Fantastic location to explore the area both by foot and driving. In nearby Mialet, the small market is on Tuesday with all the fresh local produce. The butcher is amazing (it's also open other days), and the same fishmonger you will find in larger markets as well. The big market in Thivier is on Saturday, you can find everything from live chickens, plans, utensils, clothes, to various amazing food products. The house is very well equipped and clean. We enjoyed dinners in the beautiful front garden every evening. We are already looking forward to coming back! Thank you, Maryse.

  • Our stay at Martine’s place was amazing. The location is outstanding. Can heartily recommend to anyone!

    Jesse2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • A quiet and relaxing place in a beautiful warm home. Martine and Laurent are welcoming and attentive hosts. We had a great time.

    Marco2019-08-17T00:00:00Z
  • Martine's house is a haven of peace. If you are looking for a quiet place to relax or simply relax and enjoy nature, this house is ideal. We spent a week at 5 with a lot of fun (complete equipment and quality, stereo and many dvd and cd available) while enjoying the large sun terrace and the large garden where children can run and play in all security. Special mention for the impressive starry night sky. Thanks to Martine and Laurent for their warm welcome and the advice of visits of this beautiful green Périgord including Brantôme and the grotto of Villars.

    Sylvain2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • A very pleasant stay, in a beautiful place. Everything is there to find peace and quiet. Thanks to Martine and her family for your kind welcome.

    Caroline2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great weekend at Martine, her husband welcomed my grandfather and helped him find the house, the place was clean and the kitchen is well equipped, it is already good thanks to a floor heating ( we all enjoyed walking in socks). It's a lovely house in the middle of nature, besides we saw deer and pick mushrooms. We all recommend this house, and thank our guests!

    Mathilde2018-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice house, absolute peace, the house is located on a forest clearing, so you can start hiking right outside the front door. But you have to be aware that you need the car for the way to the bakery, market, restaurant. We felt very comfortable.

Welcome to our traditional cottage style home in this beautiful part of France. Situated in the centre of the Perigord- Limousin Regional Park, we're only a few minutes drive from Cussac, at the edge of the hamlet Vimpere, La Chapelle-Montbrandeix. An ideal location for visiting this area of historic interest, with routes nearby taken by Richard (the Lionheart) 1st on his crusades. This area is known as 'The French Lake District' and upon visiting you'll understand why, with many lakes nearby.
We currently have one ground floor bedroom available, ideal for a couple. The bathroom with a shower, wash basin & toilet is also on the ground floor. The bedroom is at the rear of the house, overlooking the garden & forest behind. A continental breakfast will be served, either in your room, or alternatively in the dining room.
In nearby Cussac there are a couple of bar/restaurants and in La Chapelle-Montbrandeix there is also a bar that served delicious food. The area is very quiet, ideal for walkers, but a car is a must to be able to explore the surrounding area. There are many Chateaux to visit nearby including Chateau de Brie, Rochechouart, and in nearby Chalus, the ruins of Chateau de Chalus-Chabrol, where Richard the Lionheart received the crossbow wound that later killed him when it became infected.
  • Excellent address: Deb and Bob will welcome you with great kindness. The evening meals shared with them were delicious. The opportunity to taste typical British dishes! Really great hosts, Thanks again!

  • Bob and Deb can not wait to welcome us. The room is clean and well equipped. They make efforts to learn French. I did not stay long but it suited my needs perfectly.

    David2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Bob and Deb are very hospitable, and will put themselves in 4 for you, despite the language barrier, and the experience is great for those who have the chance to master the language of Shakespeare.

A converted stone Farmhouse and Barn with pool surrounded by gardens and woodland. Located close to the Dordogne border and village of Marval in the centre of Limousin National Park. This is the perfect location for a rural getaway and ideal for walkers, cyclists, horse riding, fishing and water sports. You’ll love the cosiness and tranquillity of our home ideally suited for couples, families (with kids), and big groups, see our adjoining gite property providing a further 2 double beds.
Set in beautiful tree lined gardens with pool, our farmhouse offers you complete privacy. Option to also let out the adjoining gite for further space for extended family and friends with additional 2 double beds. Please note however we do not rent the gite out individually so you still get all the grounds, garden and pool for your private usage. Nestled in the centre of the Limousin National Park of South Western France, with easy access to many lakes and charming towns and villages of this area including Brantome, Peregeux, Angouleme and Limoges. Also the well known weekly market on a Wednesday in Peiguet-Pluviers is only 10 minute drive.
We are very fortunate to be located in the centre of Limousin National Park, providing close access to the many lakes and countryside this area boasts. Most lakes offer fabulous beaches with lots of amenities and water sports for all ages. There are many cafes and restaurants overlooking the beautiful scenery. Many villages are within a few minutes and have several bars and restaurants as well as regular weekly food markets, one of which is the famous and biggest in the Dordogne region, Piegut-Pluviers every Wednesday morning. The well know and beautiful village of Brantome, named the Venice of France with the River Dronne flowing around the town centre lined with shops, cafes and some of the best restaurants in the region, including Michelin starred Le Moulin de l’Abbeye, It is a must visit with the famous Benedictine Abbey founded in 769 and kayaks available to hire on the river, which is very popular. Also with the benefit of such a central location, three of the most popular cities in each of the neighbouring departments, Peregeux, Angouleme and Limoges are within easy reach, less than an hour by car. Each offering different local characteristics with many shops and restaurants, we love the famous cartoon murals on buildings in Angouleme made famous by the Asterix the Gaul artist.
  • We loved our time at Dave & Liz’s farmhouse, with the added bonus of having these lovely hosts just next door to welcome us! The farmhouse is homely and well equipped with everything you could need. The children particularly loved the pool and the huge garden. Well appointed in beautiful countryside it was a great base to explore the towns and villages of the Dordogne and we particularly loved the lake beach at St Estephe. A real gem!

    Louise2019-08-24T00:00:00Z
  • As a family of four, with two young kids (1.5 and 3 years old), we are constantly on the look out for palces to stay with safe areas to play. The farmhouse delivered with a vast lawn area overlooked by comfortable outside dining area. The pool is well fenced so no worries about little ones straying into the area. Can't wait to go back!

    Alex & Heather2019-06-15T00:00:00Z
  • Le Ferme du Noyer is in a beautiful rural part of France within easy distance of Limoges airport. Day trips into the Dordogne work too. The house itself is full of char m with tonnes of well kept outside space and a well fenced pool area (if you have kids). Liz and Dave provided loads of suggestions of where to eat and visit. A great find.

    Clare2018-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding place with absolutely fabulous pool and garden. With 2 children our holiday was made easy. Brilliantly kept and thoroughly enjoyable to use. The Gite was clean, lovely inside and beds super comfortable! A car is needed but this means it’s lovely and quiet and a great place to really find peace and quiet. Everywhere is easily accessible and can get everything you need within 5/10 mins by car. Gite has a lovely feel to it and easy to find.

    Helen2018-08-25T00:00:00Z
  • great gites in gab location. everyrhing exactly as described. place was perfect. great hosts with great recommendations.

    Tony2018-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • Dave & Liz’s place is set in a beautiful quiet location, it is fully equipped for your stay. The hosts are very helpful and respond quickly if you need anything, we couldn’t fault our stay at the farm house we had a perfect family holiday and got to relax and enjoy the beautiful French countryside. Throughly recommend for families, we look forward to staying here again in the future.

    James2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • Dave & Liz's place is a little bubble of secluded heaven! The house is gorgeous, clean, well-presented. Lots of character. Two good sized rooms and a single. Slanted ceilings and low beams upstairs which are lovely but watch your head! Lots of towels and emergency toiletries. The gardens are beautiful, huge and perfectly manicured. Big dinner table, shade, sunloungers. The pool is lovely - in the sun all day long so nice and warm (keep it covered at night!), fence around it was perfect with our toddler. Lots of fun inflatables. Hosts couldn't be nicer and helped us with recommendations, and supplies as we were arriving late on a Sunday when shops were closed. They provided a high chair and cot too which was really great. Local area beautiful, VERY quiet and peaceful. Local village Marval with two restuarants and small shop is 5 min drive. Bigger village/town Piegut Pluviers with supermarket, bakery etc is 15 min drive.

    Cher2018-06-24T00:00:00Z
  • If you are looking for peace and quiet in the French countryside this is the place. The pool and the garden are fantastic I didn't see my children for 5 days as they were either in the garden or in the pool. Dave and Liz were lovely hosts and sent a lovely message to check we arrived. The directions to the farmhouse to very clear and we had no problems finding it. I would definitely stay here again and already thinking of bringing the grandparents next year to stay in the gite next door. Happy holidays if you choose to stay here.

    Marval, Nouvelle-Aquitaine, France

Our traditional stone farmhouse dating to around 1890 is set in the blissfully peaceful and beautiful Perigord Naturel Park, surrounded by forests and lakes. Our small hamlet is the "picture postcard" image of a typical french village, with it's Roman church, pretty Marie (town Hall), and little french bar/restaurant. Ideal for families or a romantic peaceful getaway for couples to relax and unwind. We have renovated to a high standard mixing modern with original French Vintage styling.
Renovated by the owners of Etcetera Interiors Ltd., you can expect an eclectic mix of modern meets vintage. The large kitchen diner with solid oak worktops, has all the usual modern appliances, such as a professional double oven range cooker, built in fridge/freezer, microwave, coffee maker etc. along side all the utensils you could need, set around a large vintage farmhouse oak table seating 8 people and an antique french kitchen dresser. The cosy lounge with it's built in wood burner has a leather sofa for 4 and 3 original vintage leather club chairs (very comfy), alongside a smart T.V. DVD/CD player and sky (basic channels only), all connected to high speed Orange Internet with Wi-Fi. Tasteful french vintage objects adorn this room so that you can enjoy the original surroundings. There are games, books, magazines and information on the local area to while away the hours over a glass of wine or 2. The 2 downstairs bedrooms have original french vintage double beds (140x190cms) dressed with new crisp linen and hypoallergenic bedding, coupled with original sets of drawers, wardrobes and vintage accessories. The upstairs large bedroom has been converted to offer 2 single french vintage beds (90x190cms), and 1 french vintage iron bed (120x190cms) with the same bedding, which is ideal for the children, with wardrobe and chest of drawers. And there's a football table to keep them occupied! The bathroom has a full size bath with rain shower over and a wall mounted sink and toilet with plenty of luxury soft fluffy towels for everyone. Outside, the private enclosed garden offers complete privacy with views over the woods, down to the valley and the beautiful manor house next door. Laid to lawn with shrubs, conifers, olive trees and a pretty well, the garden offers peace and tranquillity, with just birdsong to listen to most of the time. At the bottom of the garden there is a pool (5m x 3m) built into a large decked area for sunbathing and al-freso dining with amazing views, which is sunny all day. At the other end of the garden is the part covered BBQ area with large Outback gas BBQ, beer table and benches and festoon lighting around, all covered by a rather beautiful grape vine. Perfect for evening meals and to star-gaze once it gets dark. The Milky Way is very clear! In the store/laundry room you will find the washing machine, an indoor clothes line and sun-loungers/parasol at your disposal. The very bottom part of the garden has not been developed yet so is out of bounds and not accessible.
Our house is located in the middle of the forests and lakes of the Perigord Naturel Park in the Limousin area, in South West France. Although in a pretty, peaceful rural setting we are only 40 minutes from Limoges and the Airport and 1 hour from the historic medieval and Roman stronghold of Angouleme, a vibrant and beautiful city. The nearest town of Cussac is just 10 minutes drive, where you will find a supermarket, Boulangerie and Pharmacy, medical centre, petrol station, along with a few bars and restaurants. Within a few miles radius of us there are 3 amazing Chateau's to visit set amidst the wonderful countryside, with plenty of hiking and bike trails, many of which follow the famous "Route Richard Coeur De Lion" part of Richard The Lionheart's crusade path back in the 12th century. The pleasure beach lakes of this region, St.Estephe being the closest at 20 minutes drive, offer swimming, sandy beaches and pedalos along with bars and restaurants and all the facilities you would expect at the seaside with out the 2 hour drive. Of significant historic interest is the site of Oradour-Sur-Glane, known as the village of the martyrs, where in 1944 the waffen SS massacred almost the entire population and then set fire to the buildings. The village has been preserved in it's ruined state by the French Government as a reminder to all of us that these horrific atrocities should never happen. It is a worthwhile if sobering place to visit. Entrance is free and is about 1 hours drive from us. There are numerous village restaurants to visit (too many to mention here) where a relaxing typical french lunchtime is spent eating fantastic local food and sipping great wine, whilst talking the days events over with the locals or just amongst yourselves. About 20 minutes away is the little town of Piegut Pluviers just inside the Dordogne. It is a sleepy place but on a Wednesday the market brings everything to life and everyone turns up to buy local produce from live chickens to sun hats, Coffee to fresh fish. Get there early as by about 12.30 the long French lunchtime kicks in and it all winds down. Then sit back and enjoy a coffee or something stronger at one of the cafes and watch the world go by. And last but not least our pretty little village has it's very own bar/restaurant "Chez Jules" where you can enjoy a typical french "Menu Du Jour" at lunchtime for a little over £12 each, alongside the local french clientele. Sunday's lunchtime food is well worth sampling and is a more relaxed event.
  • Superb decoration, you immediately feel at home!

  • Magnificent house, with a subtle and very cozy decoration. Perfectly equipped, it is very comfortable. It feels wonderful there. Communication with Sean (and Jo!) Is very pleasant and efficient. We are delighted with our stay, and it rarely happens but we will want to return!

    Annaick2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • The house conforms to the description of the advertisement. A charming house tastefully decorated and well equipped to have a good time in this region with family or friends. Sean is very responsive and the communication is excellent.

    Mathieu2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • The house is absolutely beautiful and well appointed. Very easy check-in and the wine and folder full of tips and suggestions for the local area was a great touch. Would 100% recommend!

  • A gorgeous rustic place in the heart of the National Park Perigord Limousin. Really nice French furniture and accessories. The place is in a village next to a road, not too busy though. We loved cycling in the area specially seeing the Chateaux very near by and the lovely rustic hamlets. Very French and charming, highly recommend!

    Helen2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures don’t do this lovely house justice - such a stylish place, full of beautiful vintage details, without any of it feeling uncomfortable or impractical. And with a lovely outdoor & bbq area and perfect pool for the hot days, it made summer living easy. The best place for a family break in the french countryside. Our two young boys would barely leave the pool and it was a great base to visit some old favourites like Brantome, and the chateaux at Bourdeilles and Jumilhac, while also being well connected to travel further afield to places like Chateau de Bridoire and the Bergerac area. Sean was on the end of an email if needed and Jo, who lived locally, was available very quickly if/when any minor queries needed answering. We’ve had the best week!

    Liz2019-08-30T00:00:00Z
  • Quite simply a stylish, comfortable, fully equipped holiday home. And so so peaceful....just the sound of the grasshoppers! A great base to explore the surrounding area.

    Roisin2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • What an amazing holiday! The house looked perfect when we booked it, but once we arrived we realised it was even better than expected! Stylishly decorated throughout, it was a beautiful home for our week in France. The pool was also superb and the kids were hardly ever out of it. The area is so peaceful and typically French, it was exactly what we wanted. Sean was excellent from start to finish, providing everything we needed and answering all of our questions immediately. Jo (who lives locally and helps to manage the property) was also brilliant, even providing us with some emergency beer and wine when we arrived late on our first night! A really lovely holiday at an amazing property. Thank you!

• Very nice place, in a nice house. It should be even more pleasant in fine weather! I discovered the wood stove and as I was not good at lighting it, Anne launched it several times in my place ...

  • A lovely space, with great views from the large, round window in the lounge. The kitchen has everything one needs, and the water is always hot! A great, secluded location to enjoy the surrounding countryside, villages and towns. The hosts are very welcoming and friendly, as is the very playful dog!

  • Truly an exceptional stay. There is nothing wrong with it. The hosts are extremely understanding and lovely. The welcome, despite the late hour of our arrival, was very pleasant. We have to come back in a sunnier period to be able to enjoy the outdoors.

    Alexis2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • A beautiful haven of peace and tranquility. Back to nature, the setting by the stream and in the woods, but within walking distance of a restaurant and the village church, is lovely. The gite is comfortable and has rural charm, with the round window being a stunning feature.

  • Rachael & Richard were very accommodating - we were encouraged to make the place feel like our own. The appartment is very spacious. We have family living nearby and were able to invite them round for dinner - there is a large kitchen table. The location is very quiet - on the edge of the village, beside woodland - good for country walks.

    Kathryn2018-04-06T00:00:00Z
  • It feels good in the house of Rachael, where everything has been thought for the comfort of the guests. A brief stay, but very pleasant, in this beautiful countryside.

  • A great little Gite in a stunning country location. The Spa and hot tub were nice for a winter visit

    Simon2020-01-05T00:00:00Z
  • Jerome is a very pleasant host, and present. The facilities and the cottage are simply exceptional. The place is very quiet with forest walks and other activity on site. And a lot of history around the cottage. Come with your family, and do not forget your animals.

    Gregory2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • We really loved our stay. The setting is beautiful and relaxing, the cottage is perfectly clean and equipped, Jerome is a very friendly and warm host who immediately puts at ease, and I'm not talking about the pool that was the icing on the cake. All conditions were met to spend a few days at the top ... and it was! A big thankyou for everything. We will return without hesitation (but longer this time)!

    Lison2019-08-29T00:00:00Z
  • We had a very good stay

    Manuel2019-08-05T00:00:00Z
  • Welcome from Jerome irreproachable and caring with significant marks of attention and place of great quality. I highly recommend this place.

    Nathalie2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Jerome’s gite was spectacular. It was very contemporary and stylish and so clean, exactly what we were looking for. Although more suited to couples looking for a rural romantic French getaway, Jerome catered incredibly well for our 2 year old and gave her a very warm welcome. With thoughtful touches such as a teddy bear waiting in the bedroom for her, colouring pencils and outdoor toys for both the beautiful and relaxing pool and sandpit. Jerome and his family were also very welcoming and gave lots of advice and tips on the local area which made for some great days out. Including just walking through the woodland at the back of the gite. All in all, this is a highly recommended gite to visit and somewhere I’d love to stay again.

House with private heated pool. The Barn has been restored to a high standard by the previous owners. Having found such a property in a beautiful setting we are pleased to be able to share the house with others. It is set near to La Chapelle-Montbrandeix and Cussac in the Regional Natural Park Périgord Limousin.
The house is entered via the french doors straight into the large well equipped kitchen which include a coffee machine and cafetiere. The kitchen has an old pine table and seating for six people. Beyond the kitchen is a small utility room with a washing machine and additional toilet. The kitchen leads into the spacious lounge which has two large sofas with sufficient seating for six people. A woodburner is available for the colder periods of the year. TV supplied by Orange France, DVD, Wifi, Sonos and a CD player with aux fitting are all provided. The lounge is a comfortable cool room which is often welcome in the hot weather here. Through an internal set of French doors enter into the garden room which is a bright sunny space with a couple of wicker chairs and a large dining table with seating for six. The room looks onto the garden and pool. It's a great space for dining in the evenings or having breakfast. It is fitted with large patio doors and opening windows. The bedrooms are reached via the open staircase from the kitchen. The three bedrooms all have new kingsize beds. On this floor there is a full bathroom which has a bath with hand shower attachment, large shower cubicle, toilet and hand basin. The garden area has a large paddock which is very suitable for a game of football or rounders for those of you that are feeling energetic! The pool is private and for your use alone. It can be heated at an additional cost out of season. At the rear of the house is a small patio area with table and chairs. Facilities Pool for your own use Barbecue A selection of outdoor games A selection of indoor games, books and puzzles TV - French TV DVD's Sonos CD player Well equipped kitchen with coffee pod machine, cafetiere, general supplies in cupboards Hairdryer Iron Washing machine Area The house is set in a small hamlet between La Chapelle-Montbrandeix and Cussac. These are approx timings 45 minutes drive from Limoges airport 2 hours drive from Bordeaux or Bergerac airport 2 hours drive from La Rochelle 3 minutes drive to La Chapelle-Montbrandeix and restaurant Chez-Jules 8 minutes drive to Cussac, supermarket and boulangerie 20 minutes drive to the local market town of Piégut-Pluvier where the market is held on Wednesday morning 20 minutes drive to Saint-Mathieu local town where there are a couple of nice places to eat and a leisure lake 15 minute drive to Velo Rail and La Gare restaurant 1 hour to walk to Château de Montbrun 50 minutes drive to Limoges City 1 hour drive to Lac de Saint-Pardoux The area is outstanding for walking and cycling; there is a local velo rail and numerous chateaux to visit. Locally there are lakes, some with beaches and sporting activities. There are numerous small towns to visit such as Brantome, Saint-Mathieu, Cussac, Chalus or you can even follow in the footsteps of Richard the Lionheart. If you wish to drive into The Dordogne area there are many beautiful villages to be found. The coast, Bordeaux, Limoges and Bergerac are all easily reached by car. Or you could just spend days relaxing by the pool. Restaurants can be found dotted around in La Chapelle-Montbrandeix, Cussac, Saint-Mathieu, Chalus (our favourite is Le Saxo which has a magnificent fireplace and talented chef owner). Look out for the menu de jour at restaurants which are inevitably a relaxed lunchtime feast of locally grown and prepared value meals. A typical French market can be found locally in Piégut-Pluviers and many other smaller markets, including evening markets, are open in the summer season. The market towns of Sarlat and St Cyprien are well worth the drive if you enjoy larger French markets. This is our family home. We appreciate that guests will respect and treat the house, grounds and neighbourhood accordingly.
Beautiful quiet, rural area located in a small hamlet. Lots of wildlife even a deer often running around the hamlet.
  • The house is immaculately clean and very cosy and stylish. It feels like a real home where everything has been carefully chosen and every detail has been thought of. The setting is beautiful, peaceful and secluded with a lovely pool which was appreciated by the whole family but especially our 6 year old whose swimming improved beyond recognition during our stay. The field at the front of the property was perfect for playing tennis, cricket and football. The box of outdoor games and the cupboard full of board games, books, dvds and colouring things were also really appreciated and our son always found plenty to do. Chris is a great host and her high standards and attention to detail are obvious to see. We loved it here

    Nicola2019-08-06T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage corresponds to the photos, it is very beautiful inside and outside. With time we could not enjoy the pool but the setting was very pretty in the garden. Downstairs, we liked that the kitchen is well equipped and upstairs we all agreed, the beds are perfect! We had a good weekend with friends.

    Nina2018-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • You want to spend a pleasant and quiet stay in a beautiful house, so do not hesitate! Come to Chris! You will discover English hospitality in the French countryside. Have a nice stay

    Thierry2018-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • My husband, 6 years old daughter and I spent 2 weeks at Chris' and we had a wonderful stay! The house is extremely comfortable, very nicely decorated and spotless clean with everything you may need and more (including games, music, books, etc). The swimming pool was much appreciated and the house remained cool despite a heat wave (37 Celsius degrees). The region is stunning and the house is by the Richard the Lionheart road so very close to many places of interest (Medieval castles etc). The wildlife is also amazing and we saw countless birds, even rare ones in the garden. Chris has been a wonderful host all along and she really has at heart to ensure you the most pleasant stay. She is making communication easy and caring so you'll feel heard in every comments, suggestions or questions you may have. She went further and beyond for us and had very kind touches for our little girl too. I highly recommend and would be more than happy to come again!

You’ll love the cosiness and tranquillity of our home ideally suited for couples, families (with kids), and big groups.
Set in beautiful tree lined gardens with pool, our farmhouse with gite offers you complete privacy.
  • A return to an amazing place a year on from our last visit. The superb memories we took from our visit in 2018, were replicated and added to on our return a year later. Dave and Liz are fantastic hosts and have created a great place to spend a holiday. The location is stunning. The accommodation has everything you need internally and a massive garden and pool that allow you to enjoy the outdoors during the day and at night (the stars are amazing!). There are lots of places to visit, historical or for leisure activities within an easy car drive away. There are also some exceptional places to eat, from your local village eatery to fine dining. I can't speak highly enough of the quality of Dave and Liz's place and it's location. Safe to say we will be trying to book again in 2020!

    Dan2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • The location is just beautiful, the gardens and pool are fantastic and the farmhouse and gite offer great space for a family holiday. We loved every minute of our week. Lots of interesting places to visit, we tried a few local restaurants and were amazed by the size of the market in Piegut-Pluviers. We are already thinking about booking again, the week was so relaxing, we found the perfect place to enjoy some family time.

    Clare2019-07-27T00:00:00Z
  • Bucolic stay in a very nice family home (we were 6 + a baby). Part of the farm is a little away, which is very valuable for parents for example. The place very very quiet but suddenly, a bit far from everything. There are nevertheless many water bodies in the area for small excursions and beautiful walks. The owners we have not seen are very friendly, attentive and responsive. Small flat, the general state of cleanliness left a little to be desired and the garden furniture ... If you are not too observant, I warmly recommend this house. Phil

    Philippe2019-07-20T00:00:00Z
  • Where to start, if you want happy hour drinks offers, full English breakfasts and Sunday roasts then this isn’t the place for you. If you want to sample the peaceful tranquility of the french countryside then get yourself to La Ferme du Noyer. Liz and Dave have got this just right, a lovely traditional farmhouse with some original features mixed subtly with a couple of modern comforts. Couple that with the cosy gite next door and there’s plenty of room for everyone to enjoy time together or perhaps some well needed solitude. The outside space is perfect too with a very large, immaculately kept garden (large enough to practice your chipping, but don’t let the gardener know) and a good sized swimming pool. The surrounding area is full of gems too from Lac St Estephe with its clean beach and free kayaking, the huge weekly Wednesday market in nearby Piégut-Pluviers to the local restaurants, two in particular are definitely worth a visit, Les Feuillardiers in Marval itself does a fantastic 5 course set lunch for €14 and La Ferme du Lac run by the very friendly Jackie and Liston, booking essential at the latter. Liz and Dave are the perfect hosts always ready to answer queries and offer advice on places to eat or visit, we enjoyed it so much we’ve already booked to return next year!

    Scott2019-07-12T00:00:00Z
  • We have just returned from Dave and Liz's place and can safely say we have had one of the best holidays ever! As hosts, Dave and Liz were brilliant, giving us ideas of where to visit for a day out or to eat, helping us with any small questions we had and just by presenting us with a perfect location for our holiday. A fantastic holiday venue for families of any size. An idyllic location, with lots of activities, great places to eat and picturesque towns and villages within a short drive ...on quiet roads! La Ferme Du Noyer itself, is a stunning property with lots of room in the accommodation itself and in the large grounds. It has everything you could need to cater for the whole family both inside and outside, including a spotless swimming pool with lots of inflatables! We would not hesitate in recommending this to anyone as holiday destination. Thanks guys for an amazing experience!

    Adrien2018-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • We spent 10 days at la Ferme du Noyer. The house was exactly what we were looking for. A quiet and secluded yet comfortable place to make great family memories. Everything was as described by Dave and Liz who were responsive to our questions.

  • Hidden treasure ! Breakfast in the garden, sunset, nap under the trees, hikes around ... like a perfect residency

  • We hesitated to write a review so that we could keep this little paradise for ourselves. But on the other hand: as many people as possible should be able to enjoy this. It is a wonderfully quiet place and the cottage was very cozy and atmospheric with everything you need. There is also plenty to do in the area, from markets to one of the most beautiful swimming lakes in France. On site you can use a separate house with shower and toilet, and you can also regularly use the large kitchen (if available). What you don't see in the photos is the fantastic view and the many animals you can spot, from deer to hedgehogs. But the most important thing about the stay is the atmosphere that Peter and Ida have created in this place. You can go your own way, but they always come to see if everything is going well and if you wish, and if they can help with anything. We also had a nice dinner together with all the people who stayed on site. Peter and Ida have created a home in a beautiful region in France; we cannot wait until we can return!

Eveline is very good advice to discover the region, walks, hikes, gastronomy, etc. The accommodation is faithful to the announcement and very clean. It has all the necessary to spend a stay in complete autonomy: fully equipped kitchen with all utensils for cooking, bathroom, household products, bath and bed linen. An address not to be missed to discover the region, everything can be done on foot. Limoges just 40 minutes drive. Unbeatable value for money.
  • We had a great time at David and Liz who are lovely and very available hosts. The house is full of charm and authentic and the large garden very nice. The proximity of many villages is appreciable! We recommend this accommodation!

Not suitable for youth groups This charming rural cottage is an ideal holiday home for families who would like to spend their vacation in the countryside and want to relax in the garden or the inviting swimming pool, while enjoying the beautiful views on the countryside. The house is very welcoming with its large kitchen and comfortable lounge with wood burner and the cozy three bedrooms upstairs decorated in a colorful rural style. This holiday house is part of a small group of 4 cottages as well as the main house of the owner, gathered around a large courtyard. Each house has its own private garden, and the guests can make use of the swimming pool, which is in an area not far away from the cottage. This quirky cottage is less suitable for guests who are less mobile. There is a lot to do in the area, which is known as ‘Le Pays des Feuillardiers’, the country of the chestnut woodcutters. Famous is the market of Piégut-Pluviers on Wednesday mornings, with its stalls full of local products, arts and crafts and flowers and plants. There are rivers and lakes nearby for fishing and swimming, and several local restaurants, well-known for their recipes for regional products. The nearest cities are Limoges, famous for its porcelain, medieval Angoulême and Périgueux, with its Roman archaeological sites. Lovely hosts who were happy to let us laze around in their garden & gave us useful tips on other places to visit. Thanks a million Suzie & Rory.

    Jane2019-08-09T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing! Such a cute house, lots of nice details, lovely bed, clean crispy sheets and Suzie and Rory are such a nice couple. The environment is so beautiful! Cows, nice villages, walks and great croissants in Vayres! Definitely have lunch at le roc du boeuf in Rochechouart! We'll be back! Respect!

Our house is called La Grenouille Verte( green frog) because of the little green frogs who live in the pond and call amorously for a mate in spring. It is a bright and sunny three bedroomed house in a small hamlet of about twenty other houses. It has a mix of traditional features with modern comforts, light, sunny, plenty of space, room to breathe and nearby, wonderful new places to explore.
The large well equipped kitchen has all the usual appliances such as dishwasher, microwave, electric oven with gas hob and coffee filter machine it also has plenty of china, glassware and cooking utensils. The cosy lounge has satellite tv and radio, bookcases stuffed with books, a small selection of DVDs and some board games and jigsaw puzzles. There is also a wifi internet connection but with thick stone walls it can be an issue, we can always offer you, a direct ethernet connection. In the spacious bathroom there is a full sized bath with hand shower attachment and a large separate shower cubicle. A soft, fluffy bath and hand towel are provided for each guest. The toilet is separate. We have three double bedrooms. Bedroom one has a king size bed (160x220), bedroom two a traditional French style double bed (140x190) and bedroom three two single beds (90x200). The beds will be made with fresh white bedlinen before you arrive. There is plenty of outside space including a decked terrace with the above ground 5m x 3m pool, sunbeds and parasol, overlooking the pool area is a gazebo with table and chairs. The garden is large and not overlooked, well, only by the cows in the fields next door! We are in the heart of the Perigord/Limousin Natural Park, with many interesting walks and beautiful lakes and the scenery is wonderful at all times of the year. Freshly cooked meals can be provided upon request and prices start from 15€ for a two course meal to 20€ for a full four courses. This is not a gite complex so you will not be sharing the facilities with other holiday makers. We live next door and are always on hand to answer any queries and to make your stay a comfortable one. Although in the peace of the countryside, where you can sit on the terrace under the shade of the trees listening to the birds sing, we are just 40 minutes from Limoges with it's airport, historic buildings and porcelain production. Also of historic interest is the village of Oradour Sur Glane known as the village of the martyrs, where in 1940 the waffen SS massacred almost the entire population and then set fire to the buildings. The village has been preserved in it's ruined state and is a worthwhile if sobering place to visit. Entrance is free. The swimming lake of St Estephe, with it’s free parking, entrance and use of pedalos has walks around the lake and several eating places and is about half an hours drive away. It is one of three pleasure lakes within easy reach so although we are over two hours from the coast you can still find a beach to sunbathe on. About half an hour away is the small town of Piégut, quiet and sleepy most of the week but on Wednesday morning it is packed with market stalls selling everything from moules to baskets, pottery to mattresses! Sit at one of the cafes and have a coffee and people watch and then buy your baguette and cheese for lunch but remember to get there early, it all starts to close up at midday for the traditional long french lunchtime.
  • The tour was amazing. Our guide Ali was super friendly, welcoming and funny. We can only recommend this tour if you are looking for something unique.

  • A beautifully tranquil space to explore from or just relax. Very quiet, Ruth and John respected our privacy. would recommend if you are looking for a quiet space to relax with beautiful countryside. shop for provisions in Limouges as there are no shops close by.

  • A wonderfully relaxing place to stay. Fantastic garden with pool. A highlight would be Ruth’s cooking, she will provide outstanding 2, 3 or 4 course meals for the fraction of the cost of a restaurant. Although maybe not so good for the waistline! Wonderful hospitality throughout and would thoroughly recommend.

  • Very relaxing holiday in the Perigord! We were very well received and the cottage is very functional. I recommend this address without hesitation!

    Thomas2016-07-18T00:00:00Z
  • Ruth was a delightful and very accommodating host. Even when we all turned up quite late on the day of check-in the lights were on and everyone at once felt at ease. The cottage is delightful and very spacious (easily accommodating 6adults and a bebe!!). We enjoyed many swims in the pool and long lunches outside in the courtyard. The area of La Chapelle-Montbrandeix is a hidden gem deep within the Limousin countryside. Tranquil, fresh countryside and the sound of birds wakes you in the morning. I highly recommend a stay with Ruth at the green frog cottage, you will come away feeling relaxed and happy!!!

Each offering different local characteristics with many shops and restaurants, we love the famous cartoon murals on buildings in Angouleme made famous by the Asterix the Gaul artist.
  • Excellent remote reception and impeccable communication from Dave and Liz !! The places are magnificent and very well restored, decorated and equipped. The 4 completely independent houses and the large common areas allowed us to choose between the need for privacy and conviviality according to the different moments of our Christmas family vacation. We had a very good family stay, and we really want to come back to enjoy the large and beautiful garden and the swimming pool !! Thank you to our hosts!

“Great place. Very friendly people. Great natural setting. Brilliant for nature lovers.” Converted stone barn opposite historic water mill. Next to pretty River Bandiat. Kitchenette/living room. Outstanding wildlife - butterfly filled gardens shaded by peach trees. Sleeps 2 people in 1 bedroom. Shower room. Free wifi. 8 Ha grounds with donkeys. French & English TV. Swimming pool. Dogs welcome by prior arrangement. 45 mins to Limoges. One of 6 properties available at Le Moulin de Pensol.
The gîte is well equipped and spotlessly clean with a new bathroom, and a kitchen equipped for those who love to cook. There are miles of walking trails right on the doorstep and lots do see and do nearby. Fresh bread and supplies are available from the village shop just a few minutes away. Evening meals available on request.
There are lots of things to do and see in the local area including golf, riding, markets, medieval towns, caves, restaurants and walking. More information is available on our website at www.lemoulindepensol.com.
  • Heidi and Nick were wonderful hosts, helpful and made us very welcome. Their cottage was set in idyllic quiet surroundings of the countryside. Would thoroughly recommend to anyone.

    Wendy2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • We absolutely loved our stay at Heidi and Nick’s Gîte in Pensol. The property is inside a protected natural park, and the whole grounds are truly beautiful. Wake up and have a coffee on the porch with the freshest air, and watch the natural habitat start its day. Finish the day with a local wine and cheese in the shade on any of the many great spots around the property. While Pensol is pretty remote, we didn’t have any difficulty finding great local shops and restaurants ~10-15 mins away in the car in any direction. We day-tripped to Sarlat for a great lunch (highly recommended), saw tons of chateaus, but really more than anything enjoyed the nature and landscapes in the Perigord-Limousin region where the BNB is located. There are some friendly donkeys on site, a pool, ping-pong, and the gite is set up with everything you need for a relaxing stay on Heidi and Nick’s bed and breakfast. If you’re looking for a true “BNB” experience with friendly hosts in a beautiful setting, the Moulin in Pensol is the perfect place! Thanks Heidi and Nick! We loved our stay. Au revoir!

    Rich2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Moulin de Pensol is a beautiful and atypical place in the heart of nature. Perfect for a relaxing and quiet holiday. A little more than 2 hours drive, we could also discover the most beautiful panorama of the black Perigord: Roque Gageac, the gardens of Marqueysac ... Heidi and Nik are friendly, smiling and hospitable. In short, we advise without hesitation! Diane Clément and Anna

    Diane2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible place. Drive down a steep track into a rural idyll. From the moment you step out of your car you are surrounded by butterflies, bees and dragonflies, (protected by being in a nature reserve with very low insecticide use - you realise this is how it should be everywhere)! The gites are everything you need them to be, but the setting is the star of the show. Sit outside morning, afternoon or night and watch as the shifting light brings different elements of this little valley to life, or do your neck an injury staring up at the stars - a particular treat for city dwellers. Follow one of the local walks through woods and meadows... Or just relax by the pool with a beer! Heidi and Nick are faultless hosts - we couldn’t have asked for more.

    Jon2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • A welcome, a place, a unique atmosphere! butterflies and dragonflies will accompany you in this wonderful break in the time that offers this place. Perfect to relax, walks in the woods, smiles and ploufs in the pool. A real makeover :)

    Victor2018-08-20T00:00:00Z
  • We've just returned from the perfect relaxing break at Le Moulin. Nik, Heidi, Guy and Mia made us feel very welcome, and we enjoyed getting to know them at the BBQ they put on the evening we arrived. Our gîte was great, and the setting was amazing. It no doubt helped that we had glorious sunshine for most of our stay, but relaxing outside of the gîte with the sounds of the birds in the trees and the stream flowing by was just perfect. If you're looking for a tranquil base from which to go on walks or explore the stunning French countryside by car, you will not be disappointed!

  • I chose this room because it was close to my appointment the following day, but I was in no way disappointed with the experience, and the keen price. The room is delightfully spacious, and the house right at the heart of the village. Samantha is an open, friendly person, and she and her husband could not have been more welcoming. The room is right next to the front door and has en suite facilities, so it is quiet and private once arrived, and I could come and go without feeling I was in any way intruding on family life. I said hello to the dogs, but did not hear a peep from them at any other point after. The boulangerie is 30 metres away and there is a kettle and whtnot in the room so it was easy to organize breakfast. The wifi was impeccable. All good!
