Cottage vacation rentals in Mendocino County

We really loved staying at Castaway Cottage! Craig has literally thought of everything in setting up a comfy place to stay. The kitchen is stocked very well with all the dishware, appliances, pans and seasonings you could possibly need! Comfy beds, plenty of towels and even beach towels. The wildlife and peaceful surroundings were so nice to see, especially from the hot tub. A bit of a drive to reach places to eat or shop, but the coastal road is a stunning view along the way. We loved the comfort of this house, such a great getaway!

We met the infamous Piper! She’s just as sweet as they say…and Royce ain’t bad, himself. The cottage was cozy, warm, inviting, and stocked with everything we could need. It was exactly as pictured, and the hot tub under the stars was incredible. We were lucky enough to catch the annual benefit concert right in the yard (hosts discussed this with us beforehand). Special note: the rooster crows throughout the middle of the night (many times between 12am-5am). He roams during the day with his beautiful ladies and may crow near the cottage in the afternoon. If you’re not used to this, bring some ear plugs or headphones. The location of this property is PERFECT - a quick drive to Fort Bragg (10 min), but feels remote. Follow the directions that they’ll send you the day before arrival and NOT GPS! Make sure you have cell service the day before, because our reception was 1 bar (Verizon). WiFi at cottage worked perfectly. This place was SO homey and the hosts were so welcoming!

We absolutely loved our time here. Everything was so well taken care of inside their home and you simply cannot beat the view. It's stunning. We appreciated the dog -friendliness and wonderful location as well.

Awesome, quirky, and cute. Hot tub is nice, as is the whole seating area out there. If you are a fan of creative spaces, different styles of stays, and don’t need or do fancy, this place is ideal. It is creaky and if you are over six feet tall you’ll have to duck at one spot, but that stuff adds to the cute factor not subtract. Good spot

We were thrilled to find Dan's Cove Cottage on AirBnB. My husband grew up camping at the Wages Creek campground with his grandparents every summer in the 1960s-70s. We brought our own children to camp there when they were little. Now that we're older, it was wonderful to experience the matchless beauty of this beach with every comfort thoughtfully provided for, and every glorious view framed by a window. There is even a telescope! The wood stove was very easy to use, with everything provided, including excellent instructions, but the heating system is state of the art and the fire is more for the coziness and glow than warmth (but remember to turn the heating system down if there's no fog). I particularly liked the variety of pillows available,Dan went out of his way to make sure we knew everything we needed to know beforehand, such as directions, where to shop for groceries, exactly how to access the keys, etc. When cell coverage is spotty, this is a great help to print out and bring.

Amazing views, clean, cozy. Hot tub was the best. Comfy bed and we had everything we needed. This is a cottage and it looks like maybe someone lives in the main house but we didn’t see anyone. It was 6 minutes from down town Gualala. Definitely going back, it’s perfect for two people.

We enjoyed this stay Mother’s Day weekend, not only was it quiet and peaceful with the hot tub, but it was also the perfect location. Seconds away from the beach, cute little downtown shops and food. Listening to the waves and sea lions at night in the hot tub was just an added bonus! Definitely will stay here again.

Great experience overall!! It was amazing getting to wake up and see giraffes feeding ever day. I would definitely recommend booking a guided tour as the animals are amazing and the staff are super knowledgeable and kind! I would recommend making it an unplugged trip as data is spotty and the WiFi isn’t the best.

I don't think I have enough characters available to describe this experience! We use Airbnb often and this was our best one! First, the host Jeffrey was fantastic. So helpful and communicative. But this home is just a magical place. If you're looking for a very private experience, but still close to the city... this fits the bill. I don't think the photos posted do it justice compared to the in-person experience. The house-keeping crew is perfection... you wouldn't know someone ever visited before you. Everything was immaculately clean. The kitchen has every amenity you would ever need. Blankets, linens, and towels were abundant. Our group had the most wonderful time... thank you Jeffrey and Trey for sharing your home with travelers. We enjoyed the added bonus of wildlife encounters each day as well! I am sharing the link to this property with everyone I know!

Such a beautiful, secluded stay. We brought all our food and cooked in the well stocked kitchen and outdoor grill. We loved the pool table and piano upstairs. The beach is stunning. And the view — second to none! Can’t wait to return.

This was hands-down the best air bnb I’ve ever stayed at. Peaceful, beautiful, well-appointed, and extremely cozy. Jacquelyn’s recommendations for activities and restaurants in the surrounding area were spot on. We fully plan on staying again!

We stayed here for thanksgiving break and it was a perfect getaway for us. Very comfortable place with all the amenities and fully equipped kitchen (We cooked entire time we were there). The surroundings is so beautiful and peaceful. Hike around the lake was really beautiful. Mackenzie was very responsive and even stopped by to help us light the fire. And invited us to campfire one of the evenings. We had a relaxing time surrounded by our nature. Didnt even get out of the property like we had initially planned to.. Highly recommend and would love to go back again.!

We loved our stay at Ashley's! She was very communicative and answered our questions right away. The location is amazing as it is right on the river and across the street from such an incredible beach! We would love to stay here again if we are in the area :)

The cottage is in a lush green dense forest surrounding. Very quiet and peaceful. Inside of the house was clean, very well equipped with kitchen utensils, and had good quality bedding. Pay attention to the instructions sent by the host to find the house as the final dirt road to the house isn’t available on google maps. The house is dog friendly. They even had a dog bowl to use. There’s also a fully fenced backyard to leave your pet off leash. Overall, it’s a beautiful place to stay. 15 minutes away from Mendocino. With proactive and friendly host. Will definitely comeback here.

It was quite a wonderful stay in this cute little cottage. Our hosts were so accommodating and helpful. Appreciate their consideration towards my parents. It was minutes away from Red Barn where we attended a wedding. I would love to stay there again if given a chance.

We loved the place and the ducks were fun. Very rustic and perfect. I think stating turn right after Blackberry Ranch would have been helpful. We were on Hwy 128 back and forth going up roads, driveways etc for 2 hrs. We stopped people to ask, got out with flash on phone and tried calling to let them know we were so lost. GPS took us to the town of Yorkville and coordinates they sent took us further and ended us at a barn. It was so dark we could not see the Tadpole sign but went in each cottage until we found our name. Quite an experience. Love the place though. Great week-end for our anniversary.

Cozy intimate location

The cottage was beautiful, clean, spacious and provided a much needed getaway. Excellent accommodations, accommodating staff, and perfect location!

I stayed here for two nights and three days, and it was great. Super convenient—really close to town. But also tucked up on a hill, so you get that peaceful vibe and a killer view. You can literally see the sea line, the horizon, and the sunset right from the house. It’s beautiful. The place is bright, clean, and the living room? Total highlight. Huge window, perfect view. I just sat on the couch watching the sun go down like, “okay, this is the life.” 😂 I actually posted a few pics on IG and immediately got people asking where it was. So yeah, I’ve already recommended it to a few friends. Would totally come back.

The Cottage in Little River was a beautiful cozy stop on our Northern California road trip! We would absolutely stay here again as it was a perfect spot for two couples and the location was close to many great hikes and activities.

We hand a great time at the cottage. Very cute, great views, and the dog accommodations were so sweet (they provide a dog bed, doggie bag leash clip on, bowls, dog towel and a frisbee).

Perfect spot for exploring the Mendocino area!

We had a great stay, check in and check out was very simple and easy. The property was beautiful and it’s in a great location (walking distance to town and amazing views). It was private and quiet. It had great WiFi and everything else we could need. Our only problem was it was very cold, not sure if it was our problem that we couldn’t figure out the heater, but other than that everything was more than what we could’ve asked for.

Amazing cozy stay in the midst or redwoods! Feels so pleasantly secluded despite being so close to town! Loved the large windows facing the redwoods in all directions! The cherry on top was being able to step out into the patio at night and gaze at a million stars in the sky even from the tiniest gap in the encompassing redwoods! Very cozy and comfy and squeaky clean cottage with a responsive host! Easy to find and clear checkin instructions. The place is exactly as described and we loved our stay here :)
