Great stay, lovely traditional house in an authentic Japanese neighbourhood, far from the crowds. Highly recommend.

This house is located in a fantastic location, only a 6 min walk from the nearest station. Shiho, the host, was very accommodating. She greeted us as we arrived and gave a house tour. She also asked how we were going and made sure everyone was okay, something that is rarely done for Airbnb hosts. Everything in the house was clean and organised, the beds and futons were comfortable, and overall we had a great time staying at this place.

The place was greasy to stay in. Everything we needed was provided. Instructions were clear. The stairs were tricky to navigate. Maya’s communication was great and she was lovely to communicate with.

Very nice place with clean and hot tub including place! Drinks, gifts, and quick communications are great to feel welcome at place.

We loved our stay in this Airbnb! So perfectly located in the center of all we wanted to see. Walkable distance to many things or cheap taxi ride. The wash room was so cute! We just loved the wallpaper and that it had a nice shower and bath. Every night I walked to the local onsen alone late at night and felt totally safe. Restaurants close by were delicious. I highly recommend the ramen shop on the same street. The sleeping mats were very comfortable and the home quite warm and shower as well. We really appreciated the guide books which we used to find the best spots for cherry blossoms. Thank you so much for easy instructions and a comfortable stay! We would love to return again.

Very beautiful home. Extremely comfortable. Very close to train station, made transportation very easy. It was very quiet surroundings.

Wir waren 2 Nächte als Familie mit drei Kindern (18, 18, 15) dort. Die Gastgeberin Yoshino-san ist sehr herzlich und zuvorkommend. Die Kommunikation ist klar, sie hat zu allen möglichen Themen Schilder auf Englisch, z.T. sogar auf Deutsch parat. Die 2 durch Schiebetür getrennten Zimmer sind groß, waren aber mit den insgesamt fünf Futons natürlich recht voll gestellt, wenn auch ausreichend. Es gab viel Platz in Schränken! WC und Badezimmer waren sehr sauber. Man sollte unbedingt einmal das japanische Frühstück von Yoshino-san ausprobieren. Empfehlenswert ist außerdem ein Besuch im Tempel, dessen Priester ihr Sohn ist. Wir hatten die Möglichkeit, einmal an der morgendlichen Zeremonie teilzunehmen, was sehr beeindruckend war. Der Tempel liegt perfekt zwischen Kaiserpalast und Hijo-Burg. Es gibt eine Auswahl von kleinen guten japanischen und anderen Restaurants in der Nähe.  Wer ein authentisches Erlebnis in einem japanischen Heim sucht, ist hier genau richtig! Très bel hébergement, on s'y sent comme à la maison. Yoko nousi avait même mis des fraises dans le frigos, très gentille attention de sa part. L'arrêt de bus est vraiment très près de la maison et permet de rejoindre le métro ou la gare très rapidement. Un super séjour, tout était parfait!!! Merci Yoko.

We stayed in a ryokan - it's very different to a traditional hotel and was exactly what we envisaged it to be - it was well located for the local buses and a 7 minute walk to the subway with one stop to Kyoto station - very friendly host and all facilities covered in an A4 binder in English for those not fluent in Japanese - as a bonus the wifi was usefully powerful - would go again if our travels took us this way in the future.

Our host is very kind. We arrived hours later than we originally told him, however he waited patiently for us at his home with big smiles. He was outside while we arrived, helped us to bring in our luggage, showing us around. Next day he texted us to see how we were doing and offered to help. The house is so beautiful in traditional Japanese house. Beautiful woodwork. Like we were in a Geisha movie. Nice welcome gifts were awaiting us, teas, coffee, creamer, sugar, noodles… The house is very close to train station and many supermarkets. We easily cooked a few seafood and wagyu dinners with nicely furnished kitchen.

A beautiful, traditional house overlooking the river. Shops, restaurants and bus/train close, we felt very much at home. Highly recommended.

Our airbnb was the highlight of our trip to Kyoto. The house is amazing, it’s very delicate so you have to be careful but if you are looking to stay in a traditional japanese house I would definitely recommend Malcom’s place. It does get quite cold in the house so make sure you bring some warm pyjamas if staying in the colder months - there are heated blankets on the futons which is a lovely added touch. I can only imagine that in the summer the house is nice and cool. You get to fall asleep to the sound of the river and are also woken up by it, it’s so peaceful and relaxing. If you go in the summer you could take a dip in the river to cool down - I wish I had the time to do that. I hope to be back in another season and maybe then It will be warm enough to swim. Malcom is an incredibly generous guest and we felt very at home. The airbnb is slightly out of Kyoto’s central location however if you don’t mind getting public transport I do feel like it’s so worth it.

A very nice space for two people, clean and easy to check in. Host was helpful and the place surrounding the machiya was peaceful too.

Encantadora Shiori. Nos acompañó desde el punto de encuentro a nuestro alojamiento. Mujer despierta, amable y simpática. Viajada y con indudables habilidades sociales. Mucho de lo disfrutado se lo debemos a sus indicaciones y recomendaciones. El lugar nos gustó mucho. Especialmente la habitación, de aire tradicional. Te sientes como en un cuento y se duerme de locura aquí. Para nosotras no supuso inconveniente el sortear las múltiples escaleras entre habitación, cocina y baño. Lo entendemos como algo auténtico, con atmósfera joven que le aporta atractivo. La cocina muy bien equipada y cómoda de uso. Temperatura bien resulta, mediante aire acondicionado de control autónomo. Baño amplio, cómodo y limpio. Únicamente encontramos quizás mejorable el aspecto de la limpieza. Si bien en general se odservaba atención; puntualmente apreciamos la falta del pequeño plus que se requiere en un edificio de solera y singular arquitectura en madera. Tiene su dificultad, sin duda, pero sería un sueño.

Yuri and Hori’s guest house offers an authentic experience in Kyoto. The house truly gives you the feeling of living in a quaint home inside of the city. Situated near a large train station (5min walk), the location is great. As far as communication goes, Yuri and Hori are proactive, kind, and welcoming hosts. I wholeheartedly recommend staying here!

Kiraku’s place was just as described. I love the traditional house with a modern style. Kiraku’s was always super responsive and helpful.

Wir liebten die Möglickeit in einem traditionellen, japanischen Haus zu Gast zu sein. Das Raumklima war sehr angenehm und wir haben uns rundum wohl gefühlt. Das japanische Frühstück welches uns Yuta servierte war sehr fein und eine neue Erfahrung für uns. Danke dafür!

在住宅区的安静日式民宿。庭院真的非常非常漂亮，前台入住便利，我住在一楼的单人房间，其他客人在晚上都保持了安静，旅馆店主非常友善，一次非常不错的入住体验。

Séjour inoubliable dans ce logement. Le cadre est magnifique, et nous avons par ailleurs été extrêmement bien accueillis par une équipe aux petits soins. Sans aucun doute le point fort de notre séjour à Kyoto. Merci encore.

Albeit brief, this was my favorite stay of my entire Japan trip. The hosts were incredibly friendly and always proactive in making sure we felt at home not just in our accommodation but also in Kyoto and the lovely and peaceful neighborhood the townhome resides in. They made sure to follow up every question we had and made sure we were able to travel and make our next destination smoothly. We had some stressful travel beforehand, but they were extremely flexible in made our trip much easier. Also their cute daily breakfast was delicious and every single room had so much personality. It has a shared common space and bathroom but it never felt inconvenient and also allows you to get a one of a kind experience in Kyoto. The price was also incredibly reasonable and a great value. I look forward to returning next time I’m in town!

Our stay at Yamashita’s beautiful 100-year-old Japanese villa in Kyoto was the perfect way to end our 2 week vacation in Japan. The house is spacious, very clean, and well-equipped, perfect for our group of 12. It has everything you need and more. It has a serene garden, jacuzzi, and sauna—the kids especially loved the jacuzzi! Yamashita is an EXCEPTIONAL host—very warm, helpful, and accommodating. She drove us to supermarkets and places we wanted to go and even picked us up for a small fee. She prepared simple yet delicious breakfasts. She was quick to respond to messages and even guided us on using local buses. Though the house is a bit far from the touristy areas, the peace and quiet of Yamashita’s home made it the perfect retreat. It offered a more authentic and relaxing experience of Japan. I highly recommend Yamashita’s villa to anyone looking for comfort, culture, and outstanding hospitality. And to anyone looking for a truly memorable stay in a traditional Japanese home.

What a beautiful traditional Japanese home to stay We totally loved the old house, beautiful decorations, the inner courtyard and our room. Everything was perfect! Chieri is a great host, we felt very welcomed and home right away. We were on a road trip, so we also enjoyed that we could wash our clothes. And we tried out the traditional japanese bath. Perfect! Chieri, thank you for everything! Hope to see you someday again!

I planned a trip to Kyoto with a classic B&B vibe in mind and while there was no opportunity to eat all together, Tsukiya was perfect! Location was exactly where we wanted to be in the city, with easy access to public transit and even walkable areas. The breakfasts every morning were thoughtfully crafted starting about 2 hours beforehand. The space was authentic - highly recommend to anyone going to Kyoto!
