Cottages in Skye

Lonavla 2 Bedroom Cottage Lochyside Fort William
Nous avons passé 2 nuits chez Ann et Colin, où nous avons été très bien accueillis avec nos deux enfants. Le logement est très confortable, bien équipé, et bien situé dans une magnifique région. Nous recommandons !

Rowan Cottage, CrannachCottages
Our stay was short but lovely the place was neat, everything was well explained. We still made a mistake finding the location but totally our fault, yet Bart was there to help! The house location is really nice totally worth the visit assigned parking for the car was a huge plus. Thank you for hosting us

Cosy 2 bedroom cottage with woodburning stove
This is a great cottage in a beautiful part of Scotland; we spent our short trip walking a very, very happy dog on some clean, sandy, sunny (yes!!) beaches that were largely deserted and always stunning. Each day ended with the log burner in the very comfortable living room set and lit with a cosy fire, music and a glass of wine. The cottage is great, modern and homely with a large enclosed garden. It has everything you could need. A much needed and much appreciated escape from the usual pace and stress of life. A great place to stay.

Vancouver Self Catering Cottage
Nice property. Very private. Chris and Caroline were very helpful.

Garve Cottage, Lochcarron. STL # HI-10725-F
Comfortable, cozy and clean!....situated in a small village which has a selection of restaurants..self service 24hr fuel and Spar shop....Angela, the lovely lady that looks after property for Alasdair called round to see we were settled and if we needed anything....enjoyable stay in a lovely location.

Manish Cottage
The cottage was even more wonderful than we imagined! It’s right on the water in a very quiet area. It had everything we needed to cook. Would love to come back someday and stay longer!

Cottage by the Sea, 20 metres from the beach
Ann was super helpful communicating before we got there. She showed us around and then we had a peaceful and quiet evening…just like we wanted. Beautiful location!

Cottage by the Sea, Isle off Skye.
Cozy seaside cottage, the views are even more stunning than the pictures. Good driving distance from most Isle of Skye activities and destinations. Wake up to a beautiful sunrise or a breathtaking layer of fog and the sheep grazing. The cottage was homey and comfortable. Had a dishwasher, washer/dryer, reliable wifi, and all the needed amenities.

Cherry Blossom View, Dornie - Sleeps 5
We had a great holiday in Alison’s. The house is comfortable. The situation, close to Eilean Donan Castle, is wonderful. It is a great location for hill walking and for exploring the Northwest Highlands and Skye. Alison was very friendly and helpful.

Hebrides, Drumnadrochit, Loch Ness

Cosy little Skye flat in great location
The flat was cosy, spotlessly clean, well equipped and very welcoming. There were additional thoughtful gestures that I really appreciated. It’s a gorgeous location near the shore and so conveniently located. It was a little idyll in a very busy time. I would highly recommend this.

Glamaig place, Portree, Isle of Skye
Perfect home base during our time visiting the Isle of Skye! Walkable to town (especially on a nice day), but in a quiet neighborhood. Nicola was responsive and thoughtful in preparing for our stay. Definitely recommend!

Medowmore
Hamish and Sandra were exceptional hosts - always responsive with communication, made us feel very welcome upon arrival, and provided friendly company during our stay. We really enjoyed the beautiful views from the large living room windows when having our morning coffee as well as spending cosy evenings by the fireplace when not outside watching the stars. Thank you so much for such a beautiful experience.

Dun Caan Apartment
We loved Mary's place. Absolutely beautiful views, quiet area, cozy, and a phenomenal bathroom. We'd stay here again in a heartbeat.

Corriechoillie Farmhouse
superbe ancienne ferme au cœur d un environnement naturel, très bien équipée avec une très bonne literie . bien située pour visiter les highlands. je recommande vivement.

Gorgeous Highland retreat
We had a wonderful stay at The Croft. The house and surroundings are absolutely beautiful. The house and the kitchen are really well stocked with everything you could possibly wish for if wanting to cook at home. We had an absolutely amazing time and our son and our dog had a wonderful time running wild around the lovely garden.

The Gardener’s Cottage with wood fired Hot Tub
We enjoy this cottage so much that this is the 3rd time we have been. The perfect place to relax.

Taigh Uilleam Holiday Cottage
Cosy, clean, and idyllic place by the water! Elizabeth was very accommodating and it was such a lovely experience n would recommend!

Red Mountain Garden Cottage (Self Catering)
We really enjoyed our 4 night stay in Allan and Linda's Red Mountain Garden Cottage. The view was amazing. It was a perfect base for exploring and hiking on the Isle of Skye. The cottage had everything we needed to cook some meals and get a good night's sleep. I would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful Skye Crofter's Cottage sleeps 6
Beautiful and peaceful house set in a lovely location. House is very well equipped and easily accommodated my party of 3 adults and 2 large teenagers. Peter and Cary were very helpful hosts. Beach only a 5 to 10 mins walk away and a waterfall walk only 10 mins walk. We all loved our stay.

Cottage near Applecross
We stayed here for 5 nights but could’ve easily stayed much longer! It’s just such a nice place that really feels like home the minute you walk through the door. The room with the windows facing the sea is a great place to hang out, look out over the coast and watch all the birds fly by - grabbing your binoculars when you think you see something special :) Our 1,5 year old daughter really enjoyed the house too (she loved all the children’s books!). Bit challenging to keep her off the stairs but the multi-purpose fire guard worked a treat!

Merman Cottage
I booked this lovely cottage for work colleagues who were delighted with their accommodation, thank you for hosting and would highly recommend.

Craigrowan Croft (An Sean Tigh)
For the second time we did visit this hidden gem in the highlands. Grant and Laura are very welcoming and helpful with any questions we had. The house is perfect for a family of four. It has everything you need, including comfortable beds. With a little drive their are some great beaches with only few visitors. For a good hike try to climb the Resipole or one of the other mountains. On a clear day the views on top are second to none Lastly you can visit the restaurant at the Strontian hotel (aka Bothy bar) Great food, with an exceptional view. We did visit many spots in Scotland but Ardnamurchan is definitely our favourite. It is as beautiful as Skye but without the busloads of tourists

Heron Cottage, Camuslongart road-end by the shore
Absolutely amazing stay at the Cottage! The location is unbeatable, waking up to views of the stunning Eilean Donan Castle and a peaceful river right outside felt like a dream. The cottage itself is beautifully decorated with elegant light colors that make the space feel warm, spacious, and relaxing. It’s fully equipped with everything you need, and we especially enjoyed doing a BBQ while soaking in the scenery. Zoe is a fantastic host, genuinely kind, super responsive, and always with a smile 😊. It's also just about 1.5 hours max to the Isle of Skye, making it a perfect base for exploring the Highlands. A truly memorable experience - Highly recommend this gem of a place!
Your guide to Skye
All About Skye
Skye is an island on Scotland’s northwest coast whose history dates back to prehistoric times. It’s home to seven medieval castles, some of which are ruins that have succumbed to years of weathering and battles, while others, like the Armadale Castle, remain more intact. The island’s Dunvegan Castle is still inhabited today.
The Black Cuillin Hills mountain range is the dominating landscape on Skye, named for its dark-colored basalt and gabbro rocks. The steep, grass- and moss-covered mountains make for challenging hikes like the Quiraing Walk, a path that is constantly shifting due to massive landslides. The 1.4-mile Old Man of Storr hike is another of the most iconic trails on the island, where you can see this 160-foot, speared rock formation surrounded by untamed, bright green moss. All across the island, overflowing lochs create dozens of waterfalls, ranging from the towering 131-foot Eas Mor Waterfall to a series of small, grouped cascades like the Falls of Rha.
As you explore Skye’s rugged terrain surrounding your Skye rental accommodations, you can look for some of Scotland’s native highland cows and red deer. Along the coast, rare grey seals make appearances near Skye’s rocky beach shores.
The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Skye
Skye sees rain year-round, but summers are warm and see a bit more sunshine than other seasons. This time of year, you can visit the oldest inhabited castle in Scotland, the Dunvegan Castle and Gardens, open to visitors all summer before closing in early fall. Fall’s cooler temperatures make it an ideal time to hike through Skye’s lush, grassy mountains.
Spring is cool and less rainy than autumn, and purple orchids sprout up across Skye’s highlands. These beautiful flowers dot the path along the Fairy Pools hike in spring, ending at a series of small waterfalls. Winters are cold but not extreme, and it seldom snows. On a cold day, you can explore indoor attractions such as the Skye Museum of Island Life, featuring 100-year-old cottages with relics inside them showing what life in Skye was like for villagers at the time.
Top things to do in Skye
Kilt Rock
The 180-foot, pleated Kilt Rock formation resembles the garment of the same name. An elevated lookout point near the cliffs offers a sweeping view of Kilt Rock and the dramatic Mealt Falls waterfall. The falls are nearly as tall as Kilt Rock, flowing from the nearby Loch Mealt and cascading over the basalt cliff face into the Atlantic Ocean. The combination of wind and water flow is known to make a mystical, calming sound as you take it in.
Elgol
The small fishing village of Elgol sits at the junction of the seascape and the Black Cuillin Hills mountain range. It’s home to Elgol Beach, accessible by a short, steep walk from Elgol. Black rocks covering the shore date back nearly 200 million years, meeting the deep blue Loch Scavaig waters. The grassy Black Cuillin Hills create a dramatic backdrop behind the beach, with honeycomb rock formations lining the shore. You can swim in the loch waters, but they will be chilly throughout the year.
Dunscaith Castle
The Dunscaith Castle, built sometime during the 13th or 14th century, sits on an elevated rock over Loch Eishort. It’s one of the few castle ruins in Skye that you can walk through on your own, exploring the standing remains of staircases, overland bridges, and supports connecting an overwater drawbridge leading to the castle. Many Gaelic legends refer to this castle and its centuries-long history of sieges between rival clans.
