Places to stay in Windermere
The Den is a unique space within the Lake District - a Scandinavian style BBQ cabin. A large BBQ pit in the centre to sit around provides a cosy relaxing evening space, and a place to cook! WiFi, Fridge, Microwave, Kettle & Nespresso. Bedding provided, and a heated blanket! 8 minutes by car to Windermere, 5 minutes to Kendal. Easy access to a bus stop and cycle lane. Dales Way very close by. A camping-type toilet and sink (hot & cold water) next to the cabin. Dogs welcome £5/night extra.
Set in 2/3rds of an acre of beautiful gardens with private countryside views. Off street private and secure parking is provided. Toilet is located next to The Den in a separate shed. The sink has running hot & cold drinking water. Please note there are not shower facilities, but the sink with running water is suitable for taking a daily wash.
We are about half way between Kendal and Windermere. The main cycle lane into the Lake District is directly across the road, as is the Dales Way walking path. The Den is in a semi-rural setting with views to the surrounding countryside. For clarity's sake, during busy rush hours there is some traffic noise from the road, but evenings and nights are typically quiet. Please note that we are not the Windermere Camping Site, despite the AirBnB map showing it close by!
  • What a wonderful place! The lodge is truly magical, such a romantic little get away. We are definitely going to be back to explore the area further - its a close drive to the lakes nearby. Both Matt and yassmine were lovely, very attentive and made sure we had everything that we needed. It was great to wake up to the Shetland ponies outside and a greeting from Gaston the dog. Would highly recommend to anyone!

  • Very nice experience! Very nice cosy place ♥️

  • Cool sparkley den for a romantic getaway :) Beautiful area and host was really helpful. It was early March so a bit chilly out but the BBQ warmed up the den and the toilet had a heater in so acted as a drying room for us. Great break! Thank you!

  • Fabulous little hut. We bought the stay as a gift, they really enjoyed it. We went up to visit and Matthew was fantastic, told us where to go, how to feed the horse, which our 2 year old loved. Hut is great, big bbq, all the essentials.

  • Very accommodating. We really enjoyed our stay here. It made our trip to the Lakes that extra bit special. Thank you for the recommendations Yassmine for where to go we enjoyed everything that you suggested. The room and facilities were fantastic. We were also very pleasantly surprised to meet the Shetland Ponies and Gusto! I highly recommend!

  • Great place.

  • The Den is a beautiful made space and holds the most relaxing atmosphere. Matt and Yassmine have thought of everything, providing guests with charcoal, WiFi, tea and coffee, etc. They are also such friendly and responsive hosts! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the den and would recommend it to anyone looking for a comfortable, quirky place (the bbq is an amazing feature). Thank you both!

  • Booked for Xmas present for my girlfriend and what a great choice I made. The hut was absolutely stunning from the moment we arrived. Location is also accessible from a number of viewpoints and amenities. The fire pit is a lovely touch where we made dinner. Shetland pony’s were a nice little surprise too. The hit was slightly cold, however to be expected in Feb. Highly recommend staying in this beautiful hut and we will be back!

Tommy Bit is our shepherd's hut for 2 in Borrowdale, the heart of the Lake District. Enjoy fantastic views, cook up a meal on the campfire or curl up on the sofa in front of the wood burning stove. Fabulous walks from the hut to the lake and fells.
Please note, we can usually only offer arrivals on Fridays and Mondays. If you wish to arrive on a day other than Monday or Friday please get in touch and we can check if we can help you. Tommy Bit is our cosy, traditionally styled shepherd's hut in Borrowdale, the English Lake District, which is nestled at the foot of the fells with wonderful valley and woodland views. Shower and toilet facilities are in our barn about 40m away. Glamping at its best! Keep snug in the winter with Tommy Bit's wood burning stove, or cook outside in the summer on the fire pit. Relax after a day exploring the Lakes in our wood fired outdoor hot tub (£25 for exclusive use for a day, please book in advance). We provide tea & coffee and Tommy Bit has a kettle, toaster, microwave and fridge inside and a fire pit outside for you to cook up an outdoor storm! Or you can try one of the local hotels for dinner. Bed linen, towels, crockery, cutlery and appropriate cooking things are provided. Tommy Bit has a fold down small double bed (4ft wide instead of 4ft 6), which folds away, fully made up, into a sofa in the day. There is a folding table with stools inside as well as outdoor table and chairs. In case of rain, a tarpaulin can be suspended from wires above the outdoor area. There is a shared room nearby with washer, drier, lots of tourist information and puzzles and games that you can take back to the hut. We also provide all our guests with our 'walks from the door' which we have written ourselves: 12 walks of varying lengths that you can enjoy straight out of the gate.
Manesty is less than a mile from the Derwentwater lakeshore and about the same distance from the pretty village of Grange, with its teashops and double hump-backed bridge over the River Derwent. The 'Honister Ramber' bus takes you the 5 miles into Keswick (which has the nearest shops) from the doorstep between Easter and November, or the launch runs all-year round, as does a bus from Grange. We're in a perfect location for walks, water sports, touring the villages, or just sitting back to relax! We're at the foot of Catbells, which is well known as the Lake's favourite beginner's fellwalk, but there are also challenging day hikes up Scafell (the highest mountain in England) or relaxing rambles by the lake or in the woods.
  • Had a fantastic stay, Alan & Cheryl were amazing hosts who were really accommodating, and were always available if we ever needed them. Perfect place to stay near Keswick but feel like you are a million miles away, definitely a must place to stay

  • The Shepard’s hut is cosy and has everything you could need for a weekend away. We would definitely recommend the hot tub! The walks from the door are great too and there is something for all levels. Alan and Cheryl are great hosts and will make sure you have everything you need for a great stay.

    Brett2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay here. The hut was lovely and cosy and we had everything we needed. We could tell a lot of thought had gone into ensuring visitors got the most out of their time here and we really appreciated all the information provided. In particular, the walks from the door were very useful and allowed us to do a couple of decent hikes despite not being familiar with the area. The location was absolutely fantastic with beautiful views - even better than we imagined! Would massively recommend booking the fire powered hot tub for the day which was a unique experience and it was lots of fun making the fire too!

    Claire2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • The shepherds hut was fantastic!! Such a cute, homely space where we felt like we had got away from the world into this space of simplicity! Had to think about food before we went as there are limited cooking facilities. Comfortable and warm enough (we went over new year), lovely and cosy! Alan was great - he gave us lots of local tips and was clearly very passionate about the property. We didn’t get use of the hot tub sadly as it was booked up, however we never saw it in use during our stay. Would recommend :)

    Leah2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed for 3 nights in the shepherd’s hut and have not a bad word to say about our time. The space was clean and comfortable and cosy. The views were stunning. Communication from Alan and Cheryl was fabulous. We were told all we needed to know and more and really appreciate the effort that is made to make sure we got the most from our trip like Alan’s knowledge of the local area and the walks from the door. The facilities by the accomodation were also absolutely great and we didn’t want for anything. Despite visiting in December and the weather leaving a lot to be desired our stay was comfortable and we were warm and cosy. We hired the hot tub and would definitely recommend. It was a treat even in poor weather. The walk into Keswick was an easy one and it’s such a lovely town. A fantastic spot for a few nights away from the hustle and bustle. We will definitely be back!

  • Great place to get away from it all-thankyou.

  • Alan & Cheryl are wonderful, attentive and hospitable hosts. Their cabin was comfortable and quaint. Perfect if you're seeking an escape from the city and a calming weekend in nature. Definitely recommend the hot tub!

Crockery and cutlery is provided for breakfast and/or takeaway food and we collect and do the washing up for you when requested! All rooms have double height ceilings with exposed beams, great views across Kendal's rooftops to the hills beyond and plenty of character. The living room has 2 large lounging sofas (one of which opens to a comfortable double bed) a 48" Smart HD TV and DVD player and kitchenette with fridge, kettle, Nespresso coffee machine and Aeroccino milk frother, toaster, crockery and cutlery. The bedroom has a double bed, flat screen TV and digital radio. The bathroom has a large free-standing bath with hand held shower, twin sinks, underfloor heating and glass towel warmer. Towels, bed linen, hair dryer, iron and ironing board, universal travel adaptor and hot water bottles are provided. Wi-fi. There are ice cubes in the freezer compartment of the fridge. Please take a look at our guidebook for details of local restaurants and eateries we recommend. We own a miniature Dachshund (very small). Her name is Miss Saveloy Sausage or Savvy for short. She is very quiet, friendly and adores children but is never allowed in the suite (she can't get up the stairs - they are too big)!
There is a superb supermarket 2 minutes walk away that stocks a wide variety of local and specialist produce and has an excellent cheese counter, deli section and off licence. Kendal's bustling high street is one minute's walk away where you'll find plenty of shops, a library, the post office and several banks. There's a Costa on the main high street and Caffe Nero is in the marketplace. It's worth exploring Kendal's historic yards where you'll find many of our more individual retailers and businesses. The market town of Kendal lies just outside the spectacular Lake District National Park, has plenty of pubs, cafés, takeaways and restaurants, 2 museums, a leisure centre with swimming pool, golf course, the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and the Brewery Arts Centre with a theatre, cinemas, art galleries, bars and a regular live music programme (visit the breweryarts website). There are plenty of places to explore with lovely parks (Kendal Castle, Serpentine Woods and Noble's Rest) and pleasant walks along the river Kent right on our doorstep. There is a street market every Wednesday and Saturday and a farmer's market once a month. EATERIES AND CAFÉS WE RECOMMEND: CASTLE DAIRY Visit castledairy.co.uk to book. The Castle Dairy Restaurant and Art Gallery offers a unique dining experience in Kendal’s oldest inhabited building. Staffed by Kendal College apprentices and watched over by chef Robert Stacey, the restaurant provides exceptional food, surrounded by local art work, in a truly unusual setting. NB: Currently closed due to the floods in December 2015. Keep checking their website as they do plan to reopen in March 2017. Five minutes' walk from our place on Wildman Street. • Caryn’s place is absolutely stunning and we feel lucky to have had the chance to stay here. It’s a lovely big space, very arty and peaceful - lovely big bath, comfortable sofa, smart tv, coffee machine and Caryn even baked us some bread and left yoghurts, orange juice and milk in the fridge. It was perfect. The house is right in the heart of Kendal so despite the rain we found lots to do and there is a lovely pub at the end of the road. If you are driving there and parking your car just be aware it’s extremely tight and narrow on the road so opt for a smaller car if possible! Thank you Caryn for having us we’d love to visit again one day. Mick & Caroline

  • My wife and I enjoyed a fantastic late January stay at Colour House. The apartment is as impressive, arty and spacious as it looks in the pictures and the additional touches of local produce, home baked bread, tea, coffee etc. were great. The location in the heart of Kendal is excellent and we found the buses provided a cheap and easy way to explore into the Lakes, whether to Windermere, Ambleside or Cartmel for its restaurants (the latter a short taxi ride from Grange over Sands). Caryn was a perfect and very welcoming host. Very friendly, quick to reply to questions pre visit and asked us if we wanted anything from the shops during our stay. The weekend was to mark a milestone birthday and provided great memories for us. We will definitely stay again if/when we revisit the area. Thank you Caryn!

  • We spent a very relaxing few days at the colour house. Caryn is a wonderfully thoughtful host. The colour house is a great base to be able to explore Kendal and the Lakes.

  • I’ll start with one word! Wow! What a fantastic space! Our little family trio had the most wonderful little trip to Kendal for a two night stay in in winter! Caryn was so welcoming and made our stay really comfortable! To finish off our break we woke to a picture perfect view of snowy rooftops and chimneys on the Sunday! Made it very difficult to leave!! Thanks for having us Caryn! Looking forward to booking with you again in the new year!! Kim, James abs little Ralph x x x

  • Huge warm, homely but stylish living room with WiFi, big TV, DVDs, Netflix, books, magazines and games galore, lots of sofas and pouffes on which to sit or sprawl and a fine view over the rooftops of Kendal to the fells beyond. Free standing bath, double sink, lovely soap and shampoo.. Mattress had a bit of a dip but otherwise comfortable, hot water bottles provided. Caryn was an excellent host, providing breakfast, homemade bread, flowers, washing up our pots and even asking us if we needed any shopping doing! With a extra supplement for my partner on top of cleaning fees etc. the place was a bit more than I'd normally pay for somewhere without cooking facilities but a lovely treat for Christmas.

  • Great space, really unique! Fantastic hospitality, some really thoughtful touches like homemade bread and mince pies. Very flexible with check-in and out times, very welcoming with quick responses.

My stone terrace cottage is located in one of Kendal's conservation areas and 5 minutes walk to the station, town centre and the river Kent. The cottage is a cosy, quiet, relaxing space with an enclosed wildlife garden at the back of the house.
The house was built in 1820 as an old weavers house apparently. I renovated it 8 years ago with an open plan kitchen and lounge with wood burning stove. The kitchen has an fan oven and gas hob, fridge and freezer, kettle, toaster and microwave, and everything you need to cook meals or enjoy a take-out. There is a small kitchen table and chairs that you can get out and use in the house or for breakfast in the garden. The log burner is a treat in winter with a free supply of wood. There is Wifi and a selection of books and maps, allowing you to make the most of your stay. The bedroom is a good size with a comfortable double bed, wardrobe (with full length mirror inside), chest of draws and chair. The bathroom has a bath/shower combination. The enclosed garden out the back gets the sun in the morning till early evening in the summer so you can sit have breakfast or dinner and watch the bees buzzing around wildflowers, pick herbs for cooking or alpine strawberries for breakfast if there are any left :) There's bike (or general kit) storage out the back or in the cellar should you need it. Also bike cleaning facilities. You will have a parking permit for the local area so can park for free either outside the house or nearby. It does get full late afternoon when residents come back from work so you might have to park in one of the adjacent streets. its fine to load outside the door though. Everyone does it.
Kendal is an old market town situated in what i think is one of the most beautiful parts of the country – the Lake District. Its also within 30 minutes drive of the Yorkshire Dales National Park, making it a perfect base for outdoor sport addicts, walkers and sightseers....

Character cottage in the heart of Bowness. Walking distance from all amenities , yet set back in a private location behind trees. With parking and lovely garden this is the perfect place to explore the beautiful surroundings.
FOXGLOVE COTTAGE IN WINDERMERE LAKE DISTRICT Foxglove Cottage lies in Bowness, one of the Lake Districts most popular villages, with its many shops, inns, cafes and restaurants leading down to the beautiful lake Windermere. Foxglove cottage is the perfect place to enjoy the outstanding natural beauty and to walk to local restaurants for a spot of dinner and maybe glass of wine or two. The end property of three traditional lakeland cottages, Foxglove Cottage is a short walk from Bowness village and bay and yet remains private, hidden behind trees and shrubs. A shared drive leads up to the cottages and Foxglove is on the far end with lovely private garden to the rear. The side entrance leads into the well equipped kitchen/dining room. A single step leads up to the oak beamed sitting room. The room has comfy sofa and arm chairs, and , of course , the obligatory log burning stove. A most comfortable and cosy place to relax after a long walk in the beautiful surrounding area. A narrow staircase leads to the upstairs floor, on the landing is the first bathroom with bath and overhead shower. A few more steps lead onto the main landing off which there are two bedrooms, one the master double, with en-suite whirlpool bath and overhead shower, the second a pretty twin bedroom. At the rear of the cottage there is a lovely private garden, surrounded by shrubs and trees. there is a dining area where you can perhaps have a barbecue and enjoy a glass of rose in the spring/summer. This is a perfect place to stay for either couples or a small family, where the amazing area of the Lake district can be easily explored and just a short walking distance you can pop out to wine and dine in the evening before returning to a cosy relaxing cottage. The Location The linked towns of Bowness and Windermere lie east of Lake Windermere, where Bowness is at the waters edge, with the town of Windermere set about a half mile away above the lake. Each is a busy community of shops, cafes, restaurants and attractions, serving both the local community and our visitors to the Lake District. Perhaps the biggest attraction is the bay at Bowness, a sweeping crescent of waterfront and adjoining parkland, where you can enjoy a walk by the shore or find a quite place to picnic. At the bay you will find the piers and the famous Windermere steamers, which offer boat trips up and down the ten - mile reach of the lake. Here you can also hire rowing boats and motor powered boats, which can be taken by the hour to explore the lake and it islands for yourself. Other popular attractions are the World of Beatrix Potter, the Windermere Steam Boat Museum and a little south of Bowness the Blackwell Arts and Crafts house, one of the most important surviving houses from the turn of the 20th century. The house is a superb example of the Arts and Crafts movement architecture, where it occupies a stunning position overlooking Windermere and is open to the public as a gallery for craft and applied arts. North of Windermere is Brockhole, the Lake District Visitor Center. Set on the lakeshores the main house is surrounded by beautiful gardens where you will find a huge adventure playground, café, shop and exhibitions along with a host of information about the National Park. For visual entertainment you have the Royalty Cinema in Windermere, and the Old Laundry Theatre in Bowness, staging a lively annual season of music, theatre, comedy and film. There are plenty of pubs, cafes and restaurants, where for me the best is by far Jericho’s in Windermere. Owned and run by Jo and Chris Blaydes, the welcome is always warm, the setting perfect and the cuisine delicious. For a good country pub atmosphere there is the Queens Head at Troutbeck, about 2 miles from the main village the inn offers fine beers, good food and roaring fires in winter months. For the big walks and big landscapes you will have to travel a bit further into the park, however there is a good local walk up onto Orrest Head, which begins from Windermere, just opposite the railway station. Anecdotally it was the first ever walk for Alfred Wainwright where the view from the summit was said to have changed his life and set him on a lifetime of fell walking and the production of those much loved walking guides. Also quite local are the fells to the south of Bowness. Although not mountain high, they offer a magical rolling countryside rising above the lake with magnificent views. Travel a little further afield and you much to explore. South of the villages, at the foot of Windermere, is Newby Bridge and Lakeside where the steamers terminate. Here you will also find Fell Foot Park for boat hire, fishing and the National Trust Gardens. East lies kendal, the capital Town of South Lakeland. A host of good shopping, restaurants and a busy cultrural scene with the likes of the Abbot Hall Art Gallery and The Brewery Arts Center. At the northern head of the lake lies Ambleside, a popular town with cinema, pubs, restaurants and huge selection of outdoor and climbing gear shops. Once you past the head of the lake you are within easy rach of the big fells such as the Langdales, the forest of Grizedale and the other great lake in the south, Coniston Water.
The outstanding natural beauty, beyond compare! Convenience of local village with it's selection of restaurants and shops.
  • My family and I had a lovely stay at Ann's place from start to finish. The instructions regarding how to find the home and check in were simple and clear. The space itself was clean, cosy and charming - the perfect place to relax in after a day of exploring the lakes! The real winner for us was that the location could not have been better - five minutes to the centre of Bowness where there are plenty of shops, restaurants and bars and easily accessible for any activity you could wish to do within the lakes. The only issue we had was that we were not there for longer; we all look forward to returning!

  • Lovely traditional Lakeland cottage, super cute and brilliant location. Stayed here Friday to Sunday for my partners birthday weekend away. The cottage is very cute and cosy with lovey wooden beams and traditional decor. Kitchen has excellent amenities and the place is lovely and clean. The location is just perfect, tucked away behind trees yet a minute walk from the centre on Bowness. Would definitely recommend and would stay here again.

The Lake District is a World Heritage Site, and High Park is located in the most beautiful part of the area. This former farmhouse, once owned by Beatrix Potter, is situated on the Cumbria Way. The views are fantastic and at night, the silence is total. Although your bedroom is quite small, we do offer a King size double bed with a TV and a small fridge. You have your own private bathroom with great water pressure and piping hot water. We cook your breakfast how you like it - just ask!
We only let one room - with its own bathroom - so you will be our only guests. Your room has a king size bed, a HD TV, a small fridge and free WiFi. Your bathroom has both a bath and shower. A downstairs room is available, both for breakfast and for you to relax in at any time. We work very hard to keep our house squeaky clean too! Extraordinary silence at night, coupled with a true dark sky, make staying at High Park a unique experience.
We are in a secluded valley, but right in the middle of the Lake District. We offer peace, tranquility - and very importantly nowadays, seclusion. As one of our friends said recently, 'Probably the best view from a garden to be found in England'. The down side of this is that if you are looking for excitement and things to do in the evening, High Park might not be a good choice for you. There are two pubs within reasonable walking distance (20 - 30 minutes) and they serve evening meals and bar snacks. Because there is no street lighting, we are happy to provide you with a flashlight! Both Ambleside and Coniston (approx 5 miles away) offer a wide variety of pubs, cafes and restaurants. Given the social distancing guidelines, you might prefer to bring a light meal back with you and enjoy it in our dining room. We are also happy to provide you with packed lunches if you wish.
  • A rare and wonderful find - superb hosts and a great location for walking and pubs. A true little gem!

  • Couldn’t fault!! Tony & Wendy were lovely hosts with great knowledge of the area. We followed all of their advice and it didn’t disappoint! They have a beautiful home in a picturesque spot - so peaceful I had the best nights sleep in months. But even without all of that, just Wendy’s breakfasts would have been worth the visit! I would thoroughly recommend!!

    Holly2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I had such a pleasant and rewarding first visit to the Lake District, thanks to Wendy and Tony for giving me a comfortable, welcoming, and safe place to start and end my day. Wendy’s breakfast was bountiful and delicious and Tony had great tips for both walking and driving routes. The house itself is so cute and clean. My favorite walk started right there. Will most definitely return!

  • Tony and Wendy were excellent hosts. My brother and I loved the generous hospitality and how helpful the hosts were with hiking recommendations. The breakfast was delicious and the overall experience was comfortable, unique and delightful. Thank you so much.

  • Excellent location with beautiful views. Wendy and Tony really make you feel welcome and will go above and beyond to ensure your stay is a pleasant one. Their knowledge of the lakes as well as their lovely warm and comfortable cottage really does make your stay at the lakes a relaxing and pleasant one.

  • Wendy and tony have a great welcome to their special home. The setting is perfect for access to the mountains and a warm and cosy room to come back to at the end of the day. The breakfast was sensational and set me up perfectly for a day on the fells. I would heartily recommend this stay.

    claire2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • My stay could not have been better. The English breakfast was delicious, it was lovely to be welcomed by some tea and cake after each walk, Wendy and Tony were very welcoming and gave great information to have some amazing walks. I highly recommend staying here!

  • The bed is amazing, the shower was brilliant, and the walks around the area are absolutely breathtaking (rain or shine, I walked in both!).

Set in a quiet converted Mews, the Granary is a cosy, light and spacious apartment with bath and shower, kitchen, dining area, lounge and separate bedroom with king sized bed.
There is a window seat in the lounge offering a view of Knipe Scar. The private garden has a lockable shed for storage of bikes or other outdoor equipment.
There is a village store/Post Office a 2 minute walk from the property and two pubs within half a mile. There are lots of other good pubs and cafes between 3 and 10 miles away. Details of these and menus where possible are stored at the Granary. It's a great location for walking. You can access a footpath which takes you down to the river, a quarter of a mile away, without having to go on roads, and there you'll find the peaceful riverside path. For the more adventurous, there are plenty of hill and mountain walks offering great views of Haweswater and Ullswater. There are over 30 laminated guided walks stored at the property, to give you some ideas to get started. There are also loads of great places for cycling and other outdoor activities.
  • Such a cosy, comfortable space with beautiful views of hills and a garden full of birds to watch. Charlotte is very quick to respond to any queries and has been super helpful with everything! Would highly recommend a stay at the Granary.

  • Lovely stay in quiet Bampton. Well appreciated touch of a few goodies in the fridge. The apartment was clean, warm and cosy, would definitely stay here again.

    Dan2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte was great at replying to any questions we had before we arrived and gave clear instructions on how to find the place. Lots of local information provided as well! The place was really clean and it's easy to travel to all of the lakes. There is a lovely bridge and river just north of Butterwick (a couple of minutes drive away) and can be seen from the road, it's worth taking a quick look if you get the chance.

    Lizzie2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Our hosts were fantastic. They do not live on the property but when we arrived as the area is a beautiful remote place they come down to make sure we were on accessing the place as we got a little lost. Communication was very quickly responded to and they were always there to help if needed. A great recommendation for food was much appreciated and the area was perfect for what we wanted. I cannot say enough how great Charlotte and Bob were. I would absolutely stay with you guys again. Thank you for a great weekend.

    Rayhan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte was a great host, giving clear directions and easy to communicate with. The place was very clean and an ideal base for a couple to explore the Lake District.

  • Charlotte was one of the best hosts I’ve dealt with on AirBnB, she went above and beyond for us and was incredibly accommodating. The Granary itself was a beautiful property and the views were amazing, the rooms and bathroom were clean and everything worked perfectly! I would love to be back and would definitely recommend.

    Faiz2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Charlotte's lovely Penrith getaway is amazing! It's the perfect size for a couple or individual to get that country escape you're after! She is also a polite and very responsive host, so you'll never feel like there is anything missing as she definitely delivers that personal touch. Would highly recommend.

Located at the heart of Bowness, this delightful Lakeland green slate holiday cottage is just a stone's throw from the town centre and lake Windermere. Rowan Cottage sleeps four people in a double bedroom and twin bedroom. Rowan Cottage is decorated and furnished to the highest standard featuring a beautiful blend of traditional country cottage charm with modern day luxuries. Rowan Cottage is located just 5 minutes walk from the town centre and only 10 minutes from the lake. Its fantastic location makes Rowan Cottage an ideal base for exploring Bowness on Windermere and the surrounding area. Guests at Rowan Cottage are furnished with a parking permit, which can be used for parking at the cottage as well as within the local area. To the rear of the home, Rowan Cottage has its own courtyard garden complete with outdoor dining furniture.
Rowan Cottage is a cosy two bedroom cottage with wood burning fire in the lounge, on-street parking and within a few minutes walk you are on the edge of Lake Winderemere.
  • We had a fantastic stay at Phil's cottage. Check-in was incredibly easy with a key safe and an email in advance that gave us all the info we could need. We were really impressed with the cottage itself which was cosy and well decorated and perfectly fitted out with things like WiFi, TV, dishwasher and pots, pans and cutlery so that you could cook, should you wish. The location is the best part of the cottage. You're on a side street with parking and a permit provided by Phil. The cottage is round the corner from Bowness high street with plenty of shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants within a few minutes' walk, and Lake Windermere at the bottom of the hill - a 5 or 10 minute walk from the cottage. Bowness is also a perfect place from which to access the rest of the lake district with lots of great walks locally. The cottage has a double bed in one room and two twins in another so it's perfect for a couple, a small family or even two couples. We are already looking forward to staying in Phil's cottage again.

A charming apartment in a traditional Lakeland house. Ideal for walking, cycling, climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking. Wide choice of shops, cafes, pubs & restaurants in nearby Windermere & Bowness. Main tourist attractions within easy reach.
Willow is a located in tranquil woodland with views towards the mountains and fells. The apartment is part of an extension to Pinethwaite Lodge. The original part of Pinethwaite Lodge dates from the late 19th Century. Willow has a bedroom with double bed, wardrobe and chest of drawers. The kitchen, dining and living area are all in one room with sink, electric oven, hob, microwave, fridge, kettle, toaster, dining table and chairs, settee and TV. The bathroom has underfloor electric heating, a shower, toilet and wash hand basin. A cot for a baby can be provided on request but please bring bedding for the cot (my children are in their mid 20s now!) Willow and our grounds are not 'child friendly', however. I do not provide child proof plug socket covers or cupboard locks. In addition there are a number of external hazards including a pond, stream and stone steps close to the apartment. Your child/children will need to be supervised at all times. I charge a one off payment of £5.00 for the use of the cot. I can provide a camp bed which fits in the kitchen/dining/living room area if the sofa is moved! It is a bit of a squeeze! If you wish to use the camp bed as well please bring a sleeping bag. I charge a one off hire fee of £5.00 for the use of the camp bed. There is a small courtyard by the entrance with table and chairs. Bicycles can be stored in an undercover storage area next to Willow in our shed.
The Lake District is a year round destination and Pinethwaite Lodge is located near Windermere in the heart of the National Park. Outdoor opportunities are endless: walking, cycling climbing, rowing, sailing and kayaking - all within easy reach and Windermere Golf Club is just up the lane. The main tourist attractions of the southern Lake District are all on the doorstep – Windermere with cruise boats, Beatrix Potter attractions, a cinema in Bowness – and a little further away are the Aquarium of the Lakes, Car Museum, Sizergh Castle and Brockhole Visitor Centre. Bowness and Windermere are within a couple of miles, with a wide choice of shops, tea rooms, cafes and restaurants and modern and traditional pubs. The popular centre of Windermere is surrounded by very accessible vantage points that give glorious views of the surrounding area and lake. Orrest Head, a 784’ hill north of the town, provides one of the finest panoramas – as does School Knott – immediately behind Pinethwaite. Another easy climb is Biskey Howe, a 300’ hill east of Bowness, which has quaint narrow streets and a 15th century church. Windermere, the lake, has fourteen islands, including privately owned Belle Isle with its 18th century round house. Further afield, the list of stately homes, steam railways, lakes and tarns, homes of authors and poets, and fine eating places, is almost endless, all set in the deep valleys and foothills of the Lakeland fells, where some of Britain’s best scrambling and mountain walking may be found. Even in today’s busy world, it is possible still to leave cars and people behind and find solitude in many parts of the Lake District. In addition, Pinethwaite is a haven for wildlife: foxes, badgers, roe deer, and a wide range of birds, from buzzards, to long-tailed tits, warblers, fly catchers, heron, tawny owls and many more.

  • Beautiful stylish apartment right in the centre of Windermere. We loved our stay here, the projector screen was amazing after a long day and all the extra little touches were so lovely (sweets, prosecco, coffee machine). Very quick responses from Juliet if we had any questions. Will definitely stay here when we next visit the lakes!

  • The apartment is beautiful throughout. The location is very central so easy to find restaurants and shops. Communication between the hosts and myself was very quick and they made sure to cover all areas and was always there to help if needed. The little touches they added just made the stay extra special, they had a sweet box for us and my dog even had his own treats. I will be booking with them again when I go back to Windermere.

  • A beautiful space in a fantastic location, with pubs, shops, cafes and restaurants to hand. The kitchen was especially helpful, everything you would need for making simple meals at home including a great selection of spices and some other useful ingredients. We travelled with our 9 month old and it certainly felt baby friendly whilst still being super stylish and comfortable. Projector screen TV was an awesome addition too! Great communication and helpful hosts when needed as well. Would happily return!

  • Lovely homely cottage with everything you will need for a nice holiday. In a great location in the centre of Windermere. It was the perfect place with all the restaurants/shops nearby, but also convenient to explore other villages or lakes.

  • We recommend this property wholeheartedly. It is beautifully presented, clean, comfortable and has everything you could wish for. Warm and cosy during the winter months, and a fabulous courtyard to enjoy during the warmer months. The kitchen is well equipped for self catering and there is a great range of places to eat out within easy walking distance. This lovely cottage has ample space for four guests, and was bigger than expected. There are great views from the top floor bedroom, and the location offers plenty of local walking options and amenities. We stayed as a couple and would return either on our own or with friends. This place is perfect - look no further!

  • The house is great and well equipped! The location is ideal for visiting the whole of the Lakes, and Windermere has some great restaurants available. The house is also 2 mins walk from Booths, which is a superb supermarket. Highly recommended!

  • We LOVED this loft!! So much so I could’ve easily lived there and didn’t want to leave! It had every amenity of home you could think of, along with a view of the lake, tons of space and natural light. It was incredibly easy to access all the bars, restaurants, and stores in Bowness with just a short walk to everything. Parking was a bit tricky with a large 2 wheel drive car, but manageable. Sandra was a great host, very friendly and helpful.

    Danielle2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • Really lovely, spacious loft with everything we needed for a long weekend. The tips and suggestions of things to do were really helpful too when we were short on ideas. Would definitely recommend Angel Loft!

  • A very cosy, roomy flat for two. Stylish and clean, in central Bowness-on-Windermere with short bus links to Windermere, Grasmere, Coniston etc. Great hosts, they left tea, coffee and some other snacks which was much appreciated after a long journey from London!

Small fridge, tea and coffee making facility. En-suite shower room and WC Off street private parking in a quiet part of town. WiFi Fibre Broadband and USB charging points. Hue colour change lighting ap. available.
Breakfast at Home Ground, the Scandi cafe, is sublime. It's a short walk to award-winning eateries in Windermere village. Walk on to explore Lake Windermere and Bowness. The best of the area's restaurants, bars, pubs, and shops are within easy reach.
  • We had a lovely stay at the Scandi Hut! Such a cosy space, loved the electric fireplace and Philips Hue lighting. Alison was kind to install a microwave during our stay and recommended lots of walks nearby. I thoroughly recommend staying at the Scandi Hut!

    Thomas2020-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • From start to finish our experience was fantastic. Alison was extremely helpful and lovely to communicate with; she offered us great local tips and advice including the best takeaway pizza in town (and she was right!!😍) and was always on hand if we had any questions. She also left us milk which we were very grateful for as we were dying for a tea when we arrived!! The Scandi hut was just PERFECT. So so cute and cosy and extremely clean - just what we needed!😊 The bed in particular, I must mention, was super comfy and warm which made leaving it rather difficult😂 I would recommend this hut to everyone I know if I could. One of my favourite places I’ve stayed for sure! Thanks, Alison!!☺️

    Rebecca2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely for a short stay, great location in between the lake and the town. Definitely recommended👏🏽

    Chris2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely fantastic place with a really quirky but homely decor, I would recommend this place to any couple. It’s warm, cosy and has lots of cool modern features that make it nicely lit and gives it a real log cabin feel. The location of the cabin is great as in its in the heart of Windermere and about a 10 minute walk from Bowness

    Kieran2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Recently stayed in the ‘Scandi Hut’ for three nights with my partner and all I can say is this little gem was PERFECT! The whole process from booking to us checking out was faultless and Ally couldn’t do enough for us (lots of lovely restaurants, bars, walks etc suggested for us). The space itself is what we could only describe as fairytale like! The decor in the Scandi Hut is so thoughtfully done with lots or lovely homely touches. The bed is UNBELIEVABLY comfortable, we struggled to find motivation to leave it knowing it was cold and raining outside and we had access to Netflix and the lovely fire at the end of the bed!😊 The shower was also a great benefit as it is super powerful! The Hut was spotlessly clean and we cannot fault it. Will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to the Lakes. Thanks Ally!! Xx

    Emily2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely place to stay, perfect location and a straight run down to the lake. Would definitely return

    Ryan2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • The ScandiHut is truly a magical place to spend a couple of days in Windermere. The design is amazing and the décor is just so beautiful, but most importantly this tiny place is extremely comfortable. You have everything you need to relax: a comfy bed you won’t want to leave, Netflix, an electric fireplace that changes colours ,the smell of wood that surrounds you, hot tea and dreamy fairy lights that help you disconnect from the outside world. Truly unforgettable memories! This immersive hideaway is perfectly located as well. The city centre is close and there are so many places that have amazing food but if you want to be in the nature, you don’t need to go far and the surrounding sceneries are breath-taking. Last, but not least, our host Ally was attentive, friendly and she gave us such good recommendations. The ScandiHut was an unique experience and we wholeheartedly recommend it to everyone planning a trip in this area.

***January to March, Discounts available, please ask.*** It is an easy walk from the train and bus station to our ground floor flat. You will have sole occupancy. It's tucked away in a secluded sunny spot, yet moments away from the vibrant cafe culture that is Windermere. Warm and clean we aim to make you feel welcome.
In a small purpose built block the flat has been refurbished recently and decorated to a high standard. It has one bedroom, guests have the entire flat for their use. There is a shared lawn area, enclosed by hedge and walls. There is an allocated space in the car-park. In the distance, the Coniston fells are an inspiring view, but its just as convenient to walk from the door. Lots of choices, including the lake shore , Orrest Head view point, much loved by Alfred Wainwright, the beech trees of Sheriffs Wood or the unspoilt School Knott tarn.
The mainline train station at Kendal town is called Oxenholme, Lake district. From there a local train service runs into Windermere. The popular cafe culture in Windermere contributes to a vibrant village. Booths is our local supermarket where you will find regional products. A Co-Op and Sainsburys are on the main streets. We are proud of the beautiful scenery, and if you don't want to drive, you will find lots of other means to explore. Walks from the door step take you uphill to small tarns, view points or down through woodland, past pretty streams to the lakes shore. Increasing numbers of accessible paths open up access to people of a fitness and abilities "Wild" and lake swimming is increasingly popular, you may even be joined by an otter! There are many historic houses and sites to visit locally reflecting the poets, craftspeople and artists who have lived here. Even if it rains, you will still find lots to do. The local cinema has a Wurlitzer organ and regular recitals. Visiting orchestras host concerts over summer. There are lots of activities throughout the year. We try to keep an up to date guide available. A new and very successful initiative last year was the winter German market. Our Christmas lights are strung between the streets, Father Christmas arrives by train in December, and local groups arrange regular events through the year. Windermere is well served by Churches. There is a Quaker meeting , and farther afield a Buddhist center, at both of which, people of all, or no faith are welcome.
  • Fiona and her husband Dave are the perfect hosts. Dave was waiting for us at the main street during check in. He escorted us to the house and that felt really special. He then showed us around the house and briefed us about how things work. About the apartment, it is very close to the railway station and the city centre. It's spacious and very well thought of. I loved the attention to detail. There is every amenity in the apartment that one can think of. The backyard is also lovely. In a nutshell, this is the best airbnb I've stayed at. Would definitely recommend it to everyone.

  • The flat is immaculate, very cozy, well-positioned in the centre of town, and Fiona is a splendid host. Highly recommended! We had a wonderful stay and will be coming back as soon as possible

    Sophie2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • There are a lot of places to stay in Windermere but as I passed each one on my visit I thought to myself "It's not as good as Windermere4!" I stayed here with my 4 month old and it was PERFECT. Very walkable to groceries, food, the water, the boats, the train and buses. The accommodations are also set up very well for a baby. The door to the hallway leading to the bedroom is really great for adding an additional sound barrier during naps and such. Fiona was so sweet with the baby I nearly asked her to babysit. The last day I was there it was beautiful so I walked up Orrest Head and it was gorgeous. I was really glad I didn't miss those views! I'd imagine in the summer this is all quite busy but it was all very quiet in March.

  • Fiona and Dave couldn’t have been better hosts - the property was clean, spacious, in a great location and just brilliant all round. Whether it was walking tips or electric candles in case of the storm, nothing was too much - and Fiona even offered a lift into Ambleside to save us a rainy wait for the bus! We’ll definitely be back again soon!

  • Zoe's place is a very cosy flat that is in the ideal location in Windermere, with a shortcut onto the main street which proved handy with difficult weather! She has left clear information on tips about the surrounding areas of Bowness, Ambleside and Windermere itself which proved quite handy! The place itself was very clean and had ample amenities if you wish to stay in and cook your own food. We will definitely be staying here again if we ever head to the lakes sometime soon!

  • Second time at this great little place, our very own little place in the country. Can’t say anything better than I did on our first visit last year . We will return again for a third time. Try the Crafty Baa and San Pietro Italian both only 5 mins walk . The local cab company is also cheap so you can cab it around . Thanks again James , see you later in the year.

  • A lovely cottage ideally placed to enjoy the bars and resteraunts of Windemere Town and as a base for the wider Lakes. we met James on a couple of occassions and he was very friendly and obliging. Our only complaint was the lousy weather but that sort of comes with the territory !

    John2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • The location is excellent for visiting Windermere and Bowness-on-Windermere. It’s a two minutes walk towards the shops, restaurant and bars and the coop is at the end of the street. The place is ideal for two people and a dog as it is really small but perfect for a few days away and with its own private parking. Only improvements I could think of which are tiny is maybe a shelf in the bathroom with a bin and a curtain downstairs as there was a little draft. So maybe just bring a little blanket with you. James was an excellent host who answered questions quickly. Would definitely return.

  • Lovely place for 2 with the off street parking a massive plus. The local pubs and shops were a lot closer than I thought they would be, with the lakes only 10mins away. Lovely and clean with everything that you could need. Will definitely come back next year. Thanks James

  • Great place to stay to explore the lakes. We found our way on a lovely walk to Bowness on Windermere from here and easily to Ambleside too. Being so close to all the cafes and restaurants in Windermere was great for the evenings too so we could just nip round the corner. The place itself is really cosy and I definitely recommend a stay here.

Ambleside self-catering accommodation rarely comes in a more picturesque setting. Stableman's Cottage, set up perfectly for self catering, is situated within part of the historic country house of Stepping Stones, once owned by William Wordsworth's son. The house overlooks the famous stepping stones across the River Rothay at the foot of Loughrigg fell surrounded by beautiful countryside. This lovely location is amazingly within walking distance of the bustling village of Ambleside, a short drive to Grasmere and the popular tourist villages of Bowness and Windermere. Also a short stroll away is the hamlet of Rydal where there is a local pub and tea rooms. Combining characteristic features of exposed beams and vaulted ceilings with tasteful comfortable interiors and modern appliances, the cottage is well-equipped for self-catering and the perfect base in which to explore the Lake District. Having 3 bedrooms and 2 bath/shower rooms, the cottage layout is ideal for families (suitable for children from age 5+), groups of friends or two couples wishing to have separate private bathroom/shower facilities. Stableman's offers a lovely private 'home from home' and is an ideal Lakeland retreat …. comfortable accommodation, stunning views, fantastic walks straight from the door, an abundance of local wildlife, a myriad of local eateries, well located for visiting tourist attractions …. and much much more. Our weekly changeover day is Friday although out of the main season we offer weekend and short breaks. We are officially rated 4* by Visit England and have experience of letting out our holiday home for many years with excellent reviews.
After parking and admiring our beautiful location looking down to the river and the fields and fells beyond, guests make their way up stone steps (14 to be precise) and follow a path at the side of the main garden to one more step that leads on to our private dining patio and front door. The front door leads into an open plan kitchen/dining area. This lovely fitted kitchen complete with electric oven, hob, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, microwave and washer/dryer is very well-equipped for self-catering. Two steps lead up into the lounge where the tastefully designed soft furnishings and comfortable seating for 5 provide a lovely relaxing place to unwind at the end of the day. There is a TV, DVD player, Sonos speaker and CD player with ipod dock/audio. Also available is an excellent selection of games, books and DVDs for guests to enjoy during their stay. From the lounge, one step accesses a hallway leading to the double bedroom with en-suite shower room to one side and in the opposite direction are the king size and single bedrooms and bathroom with shower over the bath. All the bedrooms have velux windows with blackout blinds and stunning views of the fells. There is some height restriction in the spacious bedrooms as they are built into the eaves. We provide bedlinen (beds made) and towels. The bedroom configuration provides perfect accommodation for 2-5 people. Stableman’s is not suitable for disabled guests because of the steps up to reach the property and steps within the cottage. The cottage is also not suitable for babies : only children from age 5+ with adult supervision in the garden. Sorry no pets. The cottage is gas centrally heated. Gas and electricity is included in the price. We provide cleaning products for guests on arrival but they may require more during their stay. There are 2 car parking spaces for Stableman’s guests on the left of the drive by the entrance closest to Rydal.
Located in idyllic rural surroundings in the heart of the English Lake District national park with a view that has hardly changed since the property was in the Wordsworth family, Stableman’s Cottage is just minutes from Ambleside by car. Guests have a true getting away from it all experience in beautiful and stunning scenery spectacularly located by River Rothay near Rydal Water. There are many many wonderful walks straight from the door, ranging from short walks to full day hikes. These include nearby Rydal Caves by Rydal Water, Loughrigg Terrace towards Grasmere and the fabulous 11 mile circuit of Fairfield Horseshoe. We are short stroll from the hamlet of Rydal where there is a local pub and tea rooms at Rydal Mount (former home of Wordsworth) and Rydal Hall (open throughout the year). Alternatively a few minutes in the car (or about 20 minutes by foot) takes you to the vibrant village of Ambleside known by locals as the jewel in Lakeland´s crown. Here you will find an interesting range of local shops, tempting delicatessens, traditional Lakeland pubs and top-class restaurants - even a cinema and live music bar. There are also endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Lake Windermere can also be enjoyed from Waterhead Pier, where ferries depart regularly to Bowness and Lakeside. Nearby too is Grasmere, a wonderful Lakeland village with views abound. Grasmere has drawn poets, artists and painters for centuries. Famously the home of William Wordsworth in Dove Cottage. This can also be reached by foot by a path from Rydal Mount. Bowness on Windermere is the most popular tourist destination in Cumbria; it is a hive of activity with plenty to see and do. Both young and old love to feed the ducks and swans at the water's edge and the many steamer cruises and boat hire are popular choices. There are cafes and restaurants to suit all tastes and shops to help you while away the hours. The famous Beatrix Potter museum is well worth a visit too. On the other side of Loughrigg Fell from Stableman's is the Langdale Valley with many walks and a selection of tea rooms and pubs at Skelwith Bridge and Elterwater. Further afield, Hawkshead, Coniston, Ullswater, Keswick and Borrowdale are all easy to drive to from our base.
  • Stylish, ultra clean, every comfort you could wish for in a stunning location....nothing to fault!

Due to covid 19 we are currently closed. But when it is safe to open you will find a quiet country hut situated in a private area alongside our family home in Windermere. The hut is crafted with every attention to detail considered. Including a kitchen area and shower room, underfloor heating, a TV, WiFi and a double bed all furnished in a very stylish decor. Through the pretty picture window you can see the outside space complete with Chiminea and tranquil country views. A perfect hideaway!
Set on a private road, away from the noise, and yet both Windermere and Bowness are only a short 10 minutes walk away. There is a private parking area with plenty of space that is shared with the main house, connected to a small path leading you to the hut. Mountain bikers are welcome to bring and leave bikes in our secure garage.
The hut is based on a quiet, hidden road, in walking distance to the vibrant Windermere town where there is plenty of places to eat out from Italian cuisine to Thai. One of our favourite places to eat is The Smith a small family run pizza restaurant with a log fire and twinkly fairy lights. If you like your beer and ales the crafty Ba is a friendly place with homely decor and a great ambience, not to mention the most extensive selection of drinks available. We've had many a cheeseboard here! For amazing brunch and breakfast it's a must to visit Homeground coffee and kitchen! And for sunny days I recommend Cafe Italia across the road with outside seating where you can drink cappuccinos and watch the people go by.
  • Oakland Hut is a hidden gem. We booked this as a super last minute getaway as our ski holiday was cancelled, and we are so glad we did! We had such a lovely time and had everything we needed within the hut itself, with local amenities just a short walk away. It’s so cosy inside and the surroundings are just beautiful. Would love to come back one summer to make use of the outdoor seating and bbq! Jo and Darren were great hosts, highly recommend :)

    Libby2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Jo’s place is super clean and although small, perfectly formed. Jo had left scones for us when we arrived which were delicious and a lovely touch. Everything in the hut is of high quality and there’s a terrace which I’m sure is lovely in the summer. It’s a short walk to Windermere with various restaurants and pubs etc. Would definitely recommend it to a friend - thanks so much Jo!

    Antonia2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to stay that we cant recommend enough. Perfectly situated from both Windermere and Bowness by foot (or by other means) if you want somewhere close to the towns yet away from the noise. Stunning views from the hut over rolling hills and off in to the distance which come at great value for money in a very pricey area. Super clean, and really well fitted out the hut was ideal for our needs. Jo was a great host who went to every measure and beyond to make us feel comfortble. Would happily stay again in the future - thanks for having us.

    Oliver2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The five stars option isn’t enough! We have travelled to Windermere/Bowness-on-Windermere many times over the past 13 years, but this stay has absolutely been the most special and memorable stay. Jo and Darren kindly left a lovely bottle of bubbly for our Anniversary 💕. The Hut is just perfect, so beautifully decorated and so cleverly designed. We loved the Stag and Heart details which are so pretty and stylish. The views are spectacular and how lovely to wake up to sheep just outside the window. We were sad to leave today, but we will book to return. Our best Anniversary ever, Suzanne and Paul

    Suzanne2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • A gorgeous and cosy place to stay in the Lakes, only a short walk to Windermere town and Jo and Darren were super friendly and added lovely touches to make us feel welcome! A perfect home for a few days away!

    Isabella2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Jo's place is amazing. Fantastic location with stunning views. Jo has made a small space into a haven with everything you could need and more for a break away.

    Vicki2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely few days staying in Jo's hut and exploring the Lake District. Although the weather was less than ideal, we still managed to enjoy our time away and we would definitely recommend staying at Oakland Hut due to the great location and brilliant facilities.

    Rebecca2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • We booked Jo's place as a birthday gift for my brother and sister in law. They had a lovely time, the hut is very cosy and welcoming and Jo added a very personal touch leaving a birthday cake and card which was much appreciated.

Watch a rich variety of avian visitors enjoy the bird house and feeder made locally from china tea-sets. This award-winning Victorian slate cottage has plenty for human guests as well, such as a real flame fire, oak floors, and private patio with spot lighting. This well-equipped and spacious period property is located centrally in the village with shops, bars, restaurants, train bus and taxi facilities all close to hand. Enjoy spectacular panoramic views over the lake within a 20-minute walk of the summit from the front door of cottage or walk down to the lake in less than 20 minutes.
Windermere’s famous Puddleduck cottage is a very warm, cosy but also spacious Victorian era slate cottage recently refurbished in a relatively contemporary style, but remaining sympathetic to the era of its creation. Queen Victoria herself dropped by in 1887 during her golden jubilee celebrations and the street was named after her. A long hallway leads to a spacious and very comfortable lounge equipped with HDTV with many freeview and pay per view channels, bluetooth speaker, wifi, DVD, luxurious deep seated leather furniture, solid oak flooring and coffee table, lamps and an exposed slate chimney breast. Local art adorns the walls. A spacious well equipped kitchen/ diner is finished to a high standard with solid oak units. A separate utility room to the rear of the cottage houses a washing machine, tumble dryer and large fridge freezer as well as a Worcester Bosch central heating boiler. You will find a very handy downstairs toilet and wash basin as well as a clothes drying area, coat and shoe storage providing plenty of storage for backpacks and walking gear. 2 good sized bedrooms with King sized beds and top quality mattresses, linen and sumptuous pillows are designed to ensure you have the best sleep possible during your stay at Puddleduck. The main bathroom upstairs is well equipped and maybe you will want to add some drops of your favourite essential/ bath oil and relax in the solid steel bath after a day’s activities and use the electronic candles to create a relaxing ambience or take a shower if you prefer? A private walled patio / garden area with cafe style table and chairs, planted window boxes and beautiful subtle led lighting automatically programmed to provide evening illumination within the natural slate patio slabs to the front of the cottage is just perfect for unwinding with a drink or two whilst watching village life pass by. Booths supermarket 150 yards away, offers the finest range of groceries, deli counter, fresh bakery as well as wines and craft beers you are likely to find anywhere. The wall mounted bird feeders and birdhouses on the patio are made locally from china tea pots and tea cups and saucers. Families of sparrows, robins and other birds are regular visitors to Puddleduck. Be sure to let us know what you see.
This stunning slate cottage, named after the famous Beatrix Potter character, benefits from a stunning central location in the beautiful Victorian village of Windermere in the English Lake District. Numerous interesting boutiques, cafes, and restaurants are only a couple of minutes away, ideal for lovers of quality food, craft ales, wines, beers and spirits. Take a longer walk to Bowness-on-Windermere, and to Orrest Head for panoramic lake views or check out the many outdoor pursuits nearby.
  • Beautiful home. Great location. Fantastic host. What more could you want from a classic Lake District getaway? Will certainly be looking to come back and stay again!

  • Lovely stylish cottage well placed in Windermere village. Booths supermarket on hand for some lovely treats. Car parking options were well explained so I wasn’t caught out by parking restrictions. Comfortable bed and excellent layout. This was a last minute break when my trip to Mauritius was cancelled; Puddleduck Cottage made up for it... (even if my shorts and swimsuit weren’t quite appropriate for the weather in Cumbria in March!) :-) Anthony was lovely and very quick to respond when I requested the booking (on the morning of the start of my stay!!!) All was ready when I arrived...seamless! Isolation is not hard to find in the Lakes with all its open spaces and fantastic walks...

  • Perfect Puddleduck - 5 stars in every way. Lovely in every way - felt like a home / haven from the moment we stepped inside.

  • This charming cottage right in the centre of Windermere is an ideal place to base yourself for a few nights in the Lake District. My partner and I like to be able to cook together when we are away so we really appreciate an Airbnb with a decent kitchen and this had all the pots/utensils etc that we needed. We loved curling up with a glass of wine in front of the gas stove in the evenings after a long day of walking and the bed was extremely comfortable. We would definitely stay again.

  • Amazing location and a beautiful lodge.

    Faisal2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • The park was in a great location being only a short walk from the town center where there were loads great eating places and lots of lovely shops. The cabin was super clean and comfortable and in a quiet spot in the park but still quite close to the main gate and restaurant. Our kids loved the organised activities and although we didn’t use it, the complimentary health club voucher sounded amazing. Basic essentials such as sugar and salt weren’t provided but would have been appreciated. The only real thing that could have been improved was the reliability of the Wifi. It didn’t affect our stay though and we had a wonderful few nights staying in this beautiful part of the world.

  • Had a great time here - fantastic location with only a short walk to lake Windermere and right in the middle of the town of Windermere. Apartment was a lot bigger than we thought and had everything needed including a back garden with easy access for dog owners. Only problem (if you can call it that) was with it being a ground floor apartment was we could hear occasional banging around from the flat above - this didn't inconvenience us but if the apartment above is also rented out then louder guests may be more disruptive. I wouldn't let this influence anyone's decision however. Will recommend it to anyone who wants a nice break in the lakes!

    Andy2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Wow what a little gem. The flat is so cosy with everything you could ask for and more. It is very close to all amenities and a great base for exploring the lakes.

    Susan2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wayne’s basement apartment was a lovely little place to stay and had great access to all the local attractions that Cumbria had to offer. We will definitely be coming back to visit someday and would recommend this apartment.

  • Wayne’s place is fabulous. Really well maintained and very comfy. Perfect central location and exceptionally homely.

  • Wayne’s place was amazing! Couldn’t fault anything at all. Location and flat was perfect and had everything we needed. Wayne was also a 5* host. Would love to return

Our friendly guesthouse in Bowness-on-Windermere is ideal for singles on retreats, couples on romantic breaks, and families on holidays. The Lake District is a well-known for its beauty and provides a wonderful part of the world for getting away from it all. Some of the most popular activities here include fell walking, cycling, mountain biking, fishing, golfing, sightseeing and other activities. •Quietly situated on one of the Lake District’s fells, Brant Fell, Blenheim Lodge nestles against acres of lovely National Trust fields and woodlands, making our secluded B&B a relaxing and tranquil retreat. •Our back garden adjoins National Trust acres, and The Dales Way is a literal minute’s stroll from our door. Amble country paths on Brant Fell behind our house to viewpoints with exceptional 360-degree views. •Built as a gentleman’s residence in 1868, our Bowness Bed and Breakfast is hidden at the end of a cul-de-sac, and distanced from noisy main road traffic, crowds and late night revellers. One guest said, ‘Only five minutes walk to town; but up here, it’s a million miles away!’ •Enjoy the best of both worlds: combine your stay in pretty B&B rooms with stunning Lake and fell views with the convenience of a 5-minute walk to Bowness town centre amenities, attractions, and Lake Windermere. •Our fully refurbished guesthouse retains much of its quirky Victorian character and period charm. Rooms are decorated with Laura Ashley colours and soft furnishing and most are furnished with antique pieces in keeping with their historic past. Comfortable handmade mattresses and fluffy Norwegian duvets promote a restful night’s sleep. •For breakfast, we serve local Lakeland produce: hearty butcher-made sausage and bacon cooked to order. A local dairy delivers fresh eggs and milk daily. Vegetarian options are available, including oven-fresh croissants and delectable muffins. •Blenheim Lodge is environmentally friendly. We buy local and use local trades where possible. We also recycle and use ecologically sound products and environmentally friendly and efficient central heating and electrical systems where possible. •We offer FREE: onsite car park, WIFI, and are happy to offer assistance with bookings for tours and other activities. There is a nice guest lounge with Lake views. •We are always happy to help our guests get the most out of their stay. If you would like help with arranging guided walking trips, please do ask. We also work with local fishermen and can arrange tuition and guides for anglers coming to stay with us. •Blenheim Lodge is ideally situated for exploring the Lake District. Windermere Railway is 5 minutes south. Local main roads, buses and ferries provide easy links to other parts of the Lake District. We can arrange minibus and private tours that will pick up and drop off guests at Blenheim Lodge. So, come stay with us. Listen to the sound of silence and fall under its spell. Slumber soundly on handmade mattresses, whilst tucked under fluffy Norwegian duvets. Then, awaken in the morning to the beauty of birdsong and the glory of our Lakeland views. ** THERE WILL BE SOME TIMES IN THE YEAR THAT WE WOULD REQUIRE A MINIMUM STAY OF 2-4 NIGHTS. ** ** EACH CHILD IS COUNTED AS ONE PERSON. PLEASE LET US KNOW THE AGES OF ANY CHILDREN YOU MAY WISH US TO ACCOMMODATE. **
•Situated in the heart of the Lake District National Park, Blenheim Lodge is located at the end of a cul de sac on a quiet small steepish hillside lane and nestles into a fell. As our short road ends is also a no-through road, we do not get vehicles coming up towards our neck of the woods unless they have a reason to be here. •The front and side of our semi-detached guest house overloook Old Bowness to Lake Windermere and the mountains beyond - hence the marvellous views that we and our guests can enjoy from our guest and public rooms. •The back of Blenheim Lodge B&B boarders the tranquil woodlands and fields of National Trust acres. My favourite room, The Dalesway, has a romantic charm and overlooks those same fields and countryside, and makes me feel like I have escaped to some special fairy place far away! •As there is no road at the back of our guest house, Blenheim Lodge does not have any neighbours to the back of the house. In fact, an ancient mossy stone wall covered with hedge growth and a low wire fence form the boundary between our house and National Trust acres. •Access from our B&B to National Park walks and viewpoints, picturesque dells and peaks, is through a little wooden farm gate at the end of the small road that leads up to it from our guest house. One of these walks is romantically named the Poet's Walk. The highest viewpoint is Brantfell, which is also the name of the fell or hill that our home is located upon. •The Dales Way Walk is a long distance footpath, which route traverses part of Brant Fell. Blenheim Lodge is the first guest house off The Dales Way Walk in Bowness-on-Windermere, thereby making our B&B a convenient stop for tired walkers looking for friendly and comfortable accommodation after days of walking from Ilkley, The Dales Way Walk's starting point in Yorkshire. •Indeed, one of our guest rooms, The Dalesway, is named after The Dales Way Walk because, whilst the countryside is not in full flower, one can see the Footpath from this bedroom. •I wish I could sketch here the loveliness of our B&B's location. Being up on a hill, guests may enjoy the peace and quiet of a relaxing getaway. •The countryside surrounding our Bed and Breakfast brings with it unpolluted Lakeland air, which one of our long time guests has remarked upon as being one of the reasons why she keeps returning to our guest house: her doctor had told her that the clearness of the air helps to alleviate the symptoms of her chronic asthma. Of course, our guest hastened to add, she has also continued to come here after 12 years because she enjoys our hospitality. Now, it is like welcoming an old friend to our home: as she has often said, it is her home from home. •Thus, for guests who enjoy walks and peaceful retreats, with the added bonus of stunning Lake and mountain views from their rooms, Blenheim Lodge is an ideal place to stay. •However, Blenheim Lodge also occupies a very convenient location with respect to accessing local amenities and attractions. It is a 2-minute walk downhill to the centre of Bowness town where guests will find numerous cafes, restaurants, pubs, shops, a couple of newsagents, beauty salons, a bank, a Post Office, an antiques shop, a bakery, a delicatessen, etc. •Lake Windermere and the leisure facilities and attractions that it offers is about 5-7 minutes walk from our guest house. There, guests can ride the ferries, enjoy rowing or puttering on the Lake in a little row boat, canoe, kayak or motor boat, and we can even arrange dinner or lunch cruises aboard a yacht - great for a little treat! •Also by the Lake is a recreation area with crazy golf, an 18-hole golf course (please don't get your hopes up that this is a big course - there is a proper golf club and course a mile from our B&B that welcomes visitors), tennis, and badminton. Guests can rent leisure equipment at the recreation area and golf club as required. •In the summer, Bowness welcomes a fair or two and sometimes even the Red Arrows. There are often other events held at The Glebe, Bowness Bay, which is right by the Lake and only 7 minutes walk from the front door of our guest house. •Going down into Bowness town might take all of 2 minutes, but walking back up from the centre of town will take 5 minutes since it is all uphill. Having said that, there are two ways to make tracks to our guest house from the centre of Bowness: one is a steep route and the other is a slightly more windy but much gentler route which cuts out 2/3rds of the hill! Either way, it will take 5 minutes to walk uphill from the town centre and back to us.
  • I stayed in the room at the top of the lodge, which was small but very modern with some beautiful touches. The view from the roof window was amazing - photos don’t do it justice. Janz is very nice and helpful - we chatted over coffee and I met her amazing Great Dane Horatio too. She gave great directions and recommendations to places nearby. Would stay again!

    Kevin2019-11-13T00:00:00Z
  • This place is a perfect for a single traveler. It is very close to the pier if you are thinking of visiting Beatris Potter’s Hilltop house and hawkshead.

    Jeongmin2019-09-16T00:00:00Z
  • This guest house is close to Lake Windemere and Janz and her husband are really hospitable people. Look out for their friendly Great Dane, Horatio! My room was a little single at the top of the house with an en suite and amazing views. They were really welcoming and accommodating and especially good to communicate with - and they let me leave my bags there for the day when I was leaving. It was a great place to base myself while I did some hiking. You should know that this guest house is not self-catering - it's assumed you will eat lunch and dinner out in the town. The guest house is at the top of the hill (this doesn't bother me, but if you're not fit it might), only 5 mins from the local shops etc - but about 25 mins walk from the main village (which is away form the lake). I enjoyed my time here, recommended.

  • A cosy room with amazing lake view directly through the window and a warm-hearted host plus delicious breakfast, even an addorabe dog can cheer you up all the day. What you can ask for more?

    Jonathan2019-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely excellent host, more than you would expect from a b&b, great hospitality, very friendly and helpful - what more could you want. Room spotless, food perfect, and very friendly people.

    Alice2019-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • The location of the property is very good, just in the town of Bowness, the main road is also very close. The room was very clean and tidy, it was more spacious than the photo, the view from the window was very beautiful, and the newly arrived passengers prepared tea and snacks in the living room, and the breakfast was very delicious. It is worth mentioning that Janz gave me a lot of advice on local travel, and I also used the discount card of the hotel to buy tickets for the cruise ship (*^ω^*).

  • We had an amazing time staying in the hut. There is everything you need, we had such a cosy stay. Even with the wind and rain howling outside, the log burner kept us toasty. The location is excellent for getting around Windermere and the local area. Steve was an excellent host and helped us with anything we needed. We had zero complaints and would definitely stay again! Thanks Steve :)

  • Stunning hut with amazing views, super cosy bed and the cutest wood burning stove. Steve was the perfect host and very friendly plus Jo was so helpful with directions and anything we needed to know. A perfect weekend getaway. Thank you

  • We had an amazing stay at the hut! Steve’s hospitality was great, as were his local recommendations on food and drink spots. We would definitely book again when visiting Windermere. Thank you!

  • Stayed in the hut for the weekend, its beautifully designed and super cosy. Woodstove kept it really warm even though it was storming outside. Steve is a great host as well. Would highly recommend overall.

    Anka2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The hut is in a beautiful location and is furnished to a high standard, the craftsmanship of the hut and outside areas are lovely. Location wise we enjoyed overlooking Windermere and Orrest head viewpoint is a short walk from the hut and definitely worth the walk. Winderemere centre is only a 10-15 minute walk from the hut which is fantastic. We also appreciated seeing Steve's chickens roam around the land and Steve was very friendly and helpful, including recommending places to walk and places to eat at. The only slight down point was the cold toilet run at night/ early hours but I was aware it was a short walk from the hut and this is also the case with camping etc. We would happily stay here again and have already recommended it to friends.

    Michiela2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • From the outset Steve is extremely welcoming and friendly. Communications prior were great. The hut was exactly as described and a wonderful secluded spot for a quiet weekend away, with the town of Windermere an easy short walk. The toilet and shower is 50 yards away, which was absolutely fine for us, however if this isn’t your thing read the description carefully. The bed we found ridiculously comfy and the wood burning stove has no problems keeping you warm; indeed even through storm Ciara we had a window open. If you can strike a match then you can light this fire and all necessary items are provided. It’s small but the handcrafted table, shelves and other items make it extremely homely. The wry close 10-15 minute walk to Orrest Head is beautiful and our 16week old puppy loved his first holiday. As a base camp for a short stay, a detox or for further walking we can’t fault it. Really good. We’ll be back.

    Paul2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • If you enjoy staying away from the hustle & bustle in the beautiful countryside with awesome walks from the door, then Steve’s blacksmiths hut fits the bill. Set uphill from Windermere but only an enjoyable half hour country walk down into the town. Don’t miss out on the short walk up to the Orrest head viewpoint. The 360 degree views of the Lake District are breathtaking! Steve’s hut had everything we needed for a lovely breakaway. It was cosy and warm with a heater & wood burner, all equipped for cooking and a comfortable bed. There’s a little outdoor verandah, seating and garden to sit in and enjoy the peace and quiet too. The bathroom is in the main house so just a short walk away. Thank you Steve and Jo for a great stay.

14 Church Street is a delightful period apartment with a modern twist. Located just 2 minutes walk from Windermere train station it makes a fantastic base to explore all that the Lake District has to offer. The apartment boasts an elegant open plan living area, with a well equipped kitchen and large comfortable beds in cozy bedrooms to ensure you are well rested for the next days plans. Just seconds away, on Windermere high street, you will find local shops, cafes, restaurants and bars.
14 Church Street is an entire apartment right in the centre of the iconic Windermere village. It is newly furnished in a modern style, creating a warm and relaxing atmosphere. The flat provides two bedroomed accommodation over one level and with modern, gas central heating. Accessed from the road at the front, step through the entrance hall and up a flight of stairs to be welcomed into the open plan living room and well equipped kitchen with dishwasher. A spacious table for four and modern sofa where you can relax watching Netflix on the smart TV. Down the characterful hallway there are two spacious bedrooms, complemented by the period window arches that cast light gently into each room. Soft, luxury bedding and soft furnishings, alongside contemporary furniture make the rooms exceptionally comfortable and relaxing. The bathroom is a light, crisp and fresh room with a bath/shower, heated towel rail and a large mirror so it is easy to prepare yourself for the day ahead. Located seconds away from the centre of the village there are a selection of beautiful boutique shops (our favourite is Peter Hall and son, a furniture maker who boast stunning window displays) and some fantastic bars and restaurants. The best bars in Windermere, The Smith and The Craft Baa are just 2 minutes from the front door. Booths, the main supermarket is also just 2 minutes walk away next to the train station which makes shopping for your stay, very easy! There is on street parking directly outside the front door for 1 hour during the day so it is easy to unload the car into the apartment before parking for longer at one of the car parks in the village. The nearest car park is Broad Street car park which is a 5 minute walk.
14 Church Street is positioned in a fantastic location, just next to the train and bus stations in the centre of Windermere village. The neighbourhood is bustling and atmospheric but the apartment is located on a residential street that is much quieter, especially at night. Even though the bars and restaurants are 2 minutes walk away there is very little noise as they are all located around the corner and further down the adjacent street. The apartment is located on a road so there can be a small amount of traffic during the daytime. Just on the other side of the road lies Orrest Head, one of the most iconic views in the Lake District just a short walk away. A romantic place to watch the sunset or lovely for a picnic during the day, it is well worth a visit. Lake Windermere and the picturesque village of Bowness lies just further down the hill, around a 20 minute walk or a 5 minute bus or taxi ride. In the building next door (9 Church Street) you can rent bikes from Total Adventure Bike Hire, which is definitely a brilliant way to explore the local area.
