Places to stay in Monterey
Our quaint, thoughtfully-stocked 300 sq ft cottage is located steps from the ocean (5 min walk), yet tucked away behind our home, affording guests ample privacy, easy parking and all the amenities of home. Sip wine on the patio after a day of adventures while listening to the surf, and sleep soundly on our new king Saatva eco-hybrid mattress.
Our 1 bed/1 bath, studio-style cottage is offered fully furnished with kitchenette, organic fair trade coffee, selection of teas, and high quality organic breakfast items provided. If you have food allergies or dietary limitations of any kind, please let us know in advance, we're happy to accommodate you! Please note: we recently gutted the kitchenette and it now has 2 gas burners for cooking, a sink, and fridge. Due to the small space and limited availability of petite-sized appliances, we no longer have an oven or freezer. In place of an oven, we've just added a well-rated Breville countertop oven, which is large enough to roast a turkey, make a pizza, or do a little baking, should the mood strike. However, if you plan to do a lot of cooking during your stay, you’ll likely prefer to seek out a property with a full-sized kitchen. Hundreds of tv channels On Demand shows and movies Secured Wifi Charming private patio Complimentary toiletries Iron/ironing board Hair dryer All linens included Dishes, pots, pans, + oil, spices, etc. Organic coffee/sugar/half & half Eco Friendly "Luxury Firm" King mattress Beach chairs & beach towels provided Pet Friendly* *PET POLICY: Well-behaved pets are welcome - we are dog lovers! However, based on over 9 years of hosting experience, we now charge a $25 cleaning fee for pets over 15 lbs, or multiple pets. This is not collected up front (via Airbnb) - you can pay the cleaning fee during your stay. (Our policy is too specific for us to build it into our Airbnb fee collection.) The cottage comfortably sleeps 2. If your party is larger (i.e. a 3rd person, or a child) please contact us in advance to discuss arrangements, we can stash a twin air mattress or Pack 'n Play and extra linens in the closet prior to your arrival. Location: 5 minute walk to Asilomar State Beach, Asilomar Conference Ctr, and the recreation trail (Bring your binoculars - almost guaranteed sightings of otters and seals, and lately, whale spouts!) 20 minute walk or 5 minute drive to downtown Pacific Grove (On Monday afternoon/evenings there is a fantastic little Farmers Market) 10 minute drive to Oldtown Monterey/Wharf Approximately 3 miles from Cannery Row/Monterey Bay Aquarium Less than 1 mile from the 17 mile drive gates into Pebble Beach 1/3 mile from Pacific Grove Municipal Golf Course 20ish minute drive to Carmel Valley/Wine Country 30ish minute drive to INCREDIBLY scenic Big Sur Bring your bicycles - our mild climate and stunning scenery make the Monterey Peninsula an ideal spot to explore on 2 wheels. We *LOVE* hosting Airbnb guests - making friends from around the world, and close to home. Whether you opt to stay with us, or elsewhere, I'm confident you'll enjoy your trip to the stunning Monterey Peninsula. You should know a couple things.... 1. We are a pet-friendly property - if you suffer from pet allergies you should know there may have been a guest pup in the cottage prior to your reservation. Though we do clean the cottage thoroughly between guests, it is likely that allergens are still present. Ultimately - we want you to be comfortable, therefore we *STRONGLY* discourage booking if you have pet allergies - there are so many lovely options in the area and most are not pet-friendly. 2. Approximately once per week (usually Friday mornings) we have our weekly yard service. Sometimes the maintenance is relatively quiet (raking, trimming, etc.) and sometimes the situation is far more noisy (leaf blowers, weed wackers, fence repair, and the like). 3. Finally.... Our calendar is updated daily and is indeed accurate. If the dates you want are not available it is because they're already booked by another guest. I'm not sure how everyone plans so far in advance, but it is not unusual for us to be booked 8+ months in advance.
Hands down, the best part about our 'hood is the proximity to the ocean. You can (usually) hear it, and smell it from our house, and see its amazing beauty within a brief walk. On a clear night, the sunsets are breathtaking.
  • Super comfy bed! Nice amenities for breakfast. Very close to all amenities on the peninsula.

  • This accommodation is among the best that airbnb had. Love in every detail, top location, quiet, very clean, just beautiful. We would come back anytime.

  • Thank you for the wonderful accommodations. We enjoyed our stay very much. I used the ice machine, such a great idea. The cookies were amazing and having coffee and breakfast food was such a treat. Jamie, John Paul and Sparky

  • My husband and I stayed here and brought Sammy, our cat. Erika welcomed us with a nice breakfast of homemade goodies and the best chocolate chip cookies that I ever tasted (recipe in back of a thorough informational binder), and a really sweet personalized welcome sign. The entry to the cottage had a wonderful landscape and stone walkway that opened up to a beautiful courtyard with tasteful patio furniture and clear directional signage. The entry to the cottage is beautiful with a split door. The inside is bright and cozy with a beach seascape theme, with light blue and white accents and natural wood. The kitchenette is small, yet fully stocked and well organized. The bathroom is generous in size, and airy. The cottage has its own private courtyard with patio furniture that complements the landscape. The bed is one of the most comfortable beds I have ever slept in and all of the furniture was comfortable. Our kitty (a large friendly and curious orange tabby), hopped on the windowsill and broke a piece off, and although I was horrified and offered to pay for repairs, Erika was gracious and made it seem like an easy repair. In summary, this is a wonderful place to stay and Erika is a terrific host with thoughtful attention to details. We will definitely return!

  • This is a stunning find! So cozy and private, with many thoughtful touches. The chocolate-chip cookie welcome was awesome! The beach is very close, and the neighborhood is very quiet and restful. The bed felt a little soft when we climbed in, but it was wonderfully supportive. The heater, though compact, warmed up the whole place in the time it took to brew a pot of coffee in the morning.

    Lk2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage is just how it looks in the pictures. Nice private outside sitting area also. You can hear the ocean from the cottage. Easy walk to the Pacific Ocean. The location is perfect. Easy to get to everything you want to do. Loved sitting outside having our coffee in the morning and hearing the waves crash on the beach. We will be back.

    Elizabeth2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean, private, and charming place. We have a smooth pleasant time here. Minutes from the beach. We had everything we needed.

Stay in our Carmel Rustic Cabin along with your FurKid (see dog fee below) while shopping, visiting local wineries and restaurants or just walking your dog off-leash along Carmel's white sandy beach. Hidden in the woods, our rustic cabin is like a treehouse with all the amenities and minutes from downtown and the beaches. FYI the coast drive is now accessible between here and LA, but may be shut down during stormy weather, so be sure to follow local weather reports or just call Caltrans.
You'll find our Rustic Cabin like a Treehouse is perfect for two . . . Simple. Comfortable and Cozy (250 sq ft). PLUS, the cabin is very quiet, very private, and equipped with a small "kitchenette," super high-speed WIFI for streaming and cable TV. We are Pet Friendly and would love to entertain your beloved Fido, but PLEASE NOTE . . . we are now charging $25 extra for one to two small to mid-size dogs. Dog surcharge will be added after you've booked. We also ask that you bring the appropriate dog bedding as well as food and water dishes. Deer and other wild animals are often around at night, so don't be spooked if your dog decides to growl a bit. Even squirrels will set our dogs off. We provide coffee and tea to get you started in the morning. No kitchen is available, but there is a microwave, small refrigerator, kettle, coffee pot, toaster, and dishes - all ideal for take out. You'll be located on the same property as our family home, but totally detached from the house (about 50 steps down from the parking area) and with no other guests to disturb you. For those of you who have allergies, please keep in mind that Pets have been in the room previously. Also, because we're located in the woods, pollens may be a problem for you as well. If you're visiting California's central coast for the first time, you'll find Carmel and the surrounding area an idyllic haven boasting nearly 100 miles of spectacular shoreline - described as the 'greatest meeting of land and sea.' The unbridled beauty of Carmel and Monterey County's landscape and the mild, year-round weather offer endless opportunities for outdoor pursuits. Family-centered activities abound and there truly is something for everyone.
The cabin is situated in a quiet residential neighborhood facing the Pebble Beach Forest Conservancy adjacent to Pescadero, a little used road where neighbors like to walk their dogs, or where cyclists test their strength on a grueling hill full of switchbacks. Want to look out on the forest? Want to watch birds whiz by with squirrels nearby? You can, yet we're so close to town, it takes 10 minutes to walk to the post office. Also, you might like to know Carmel has been voted one of the Top Ten Dog Friendly places in the country. WOOF! So, bring your dog. Please check the CALENDAR tab above to determine whether we've been booked.
  • Cozy little cabin in the trees. This was a very peaceful spot and we really enjoyed our stay here. Sitting on the balcony with a beer after a long drive was delightfully relaxing. Close to everything Carmel has to offer, but just enough off the beaten track. All in all, a great find.

  • We booked this trip as a short get-away from the hustle-and-bustle of the Bay Area and demanding jobs. Tom's place was exactly what we needed. It is a quiet neighborhood not far from downtown but far enough to offer peace and tranquility; it was the best of both worlds. The cabin itself is on a hillside down some steps from the main house. It is very private and surrounded by lush trees and plants. There is a cute little deck facing down the hill to enjoy coffee and snacks. The cabin offers basic amenities, which is all we needed, including a very comfy bed. It was very clean and quaint. Tom is very kind and a great host. We love this place and can't wait to return!

    Victoria2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great and cute accommodation. You have to go down some stairs in Order to reach the housing but Tom installed some lights which makes it very easy to find. We enjoyed our stay.

    Jessica2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Very rustic and charming place surrounded by nature. Friendly host. Close proximity to center of town. A bit small but we just needed a place to sleep so it was perfect. Highly recommended and would love to come back again.

    Huey2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tom’s cabin was great! Parking was easy. The step to the cabin were sturdy. The cabin itself was clean and everything worked as expected. The town is 5 minutes drive from the cabin, where there’s lots to do!

    Pradeep2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I stayed at Tom’s awesome cabin. We had a great time, look forward to coming back :)

    Kyle2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was lovely. It overlooks trees and a creek and there is nothing h like waking up to that view. It’s very peaceful and quiet yet a 5 min drive to town. It’s cozy and warm, everything you would want for a get away, particularly considering that they are pet friendly. We love our stay and highly recommend it!

    Andrea2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Celebrated my girlfriend's 22nd birthday here and we loved how close it is to all the Carmel activities. It is super cozy with a lot of convenient touches in mind. Also not too far from Monterey! All in all a great experience

And you will sleep well on the king-size organic wool/latex mattress... it has been named the most comfortable bed in the world by numerous guests! Enjoy your private entrance/suite/shower with a sky window that opens to the warmth of the sun. If you feel like dancing, enjoy the eclectic vinyl collection with everything from Miles Davis to The Tubes. Does this sound too good to be true? Nope, it's really that great! California Dreaming is an eco-friendly private suite with natural cork flooring, bamboo, shoji, recycled granite, and non-toxic paint. It is a Dwell-inspired, eclectic blend of Japanese Zen and California design overlooking the garden, trees and the Pacific Ocean - a truly magical, romantic, fun space. This is a relaxed coastal "locals" experience. Stay in and rest or venture out into the wild. Whatever you feel like doing, I am happy to help with suggestions for everything from the best hikes to the best food. Please note I am a five star cleaner and am now using disinfecting sprays and wipes with every clean, so you can have a worry free stay. I want you to have a wonderful time while you're my guests. I have lived in Pacific Grove for 16 years and am happy to help you create a memorable, lovely holiday. Coastal walks, white sand beaches, best local restaurants and music, best free parking and favorite Monterey Bay Aquarium exhibits, rugged Big Sur hikes, etc... What are you waiting for? PLEASE DO NOT BOOK ONE NIGHT RESERVATIONS WITHOUT ASKING IN ADVANCE. I rarely accept one night reservations on weekends or accept one night reservations more than a week or two (depending on season) in advance or if there is an empty night between bookings. Note pricing varies according to seasons, weekends and special events. I have an awesome 19 year old three-legged blind, deaf dog named Zeus and we both love having furry friends visit. I accept pets at my discretion (please tell me about your pup when you book) and there is a $35 pet fee payable on arrival. I have a leash only rule in the back gardens because they are full of exotic, fragile succulents and prickly cactus. Also, please pick up after your pup and use designated areas in garden. CA Dream Suite has both a California King size bed and twin bed. I accept up to three people. There is a $45 fee per person, after two people. I offer coffee and a selection of teas. Wi-fi is strong indoors and outside. Outdoor garden patio with deck chairs and a picnic table. All linens and towels included. Please note... I do NOT iron the cotton bed sheets. Great spas, discount for local massage (massage can even be in the bungalow so you don't have to drive) Pacific Grove monarch butterfly sanctuary. Public transportation nearby. Weather: Summer is coastal fog and sunny. Fall is our Indian Summer – our best weather. Winter is the local's season – sometimes crystal clear and moderate, sometimes with great storms, big waves and no tourists. Spring is a little bit of all of the above, sometimes windy and lots of flowers in the garden! Legal and licensed rental: In order to accept reservations and host guests, the City of Pacific Grove requires that we possess a transient use license. Airbnb will collect transient occupancy taxes from each of our guests, and this amount is calculated separately. City of Pacific Grove Transient Use License #0390. Please note this space is marketed as private space but because it is attached to the main house, it is permitted as a room share. This is unique and important since May 2020, only owner occupied residences will be legal in Pacific Grove. If you book a place that isn't owner occupied (unless coastal commission) after May 2020 it will be shut down by the city of Pacific Grove. Be careful what you book!
This is a safe, serene neighborhood with lots of really nice people. My neighbors love Airbnb due to considerate guests. There are a lot of small children in the neighborhood so DRIVE 10 MPH in cul-de-sac. Thanks! Make sure you have read instructions and are clear exactly where to park. Neighborhood peace is a really cool thing..
  • Beautiful and convenient location for exploring a lovely little sea side town. Just a short drive to Big Sur , which is simply gorgeous . Thoughtful touches , spotless, with a gorgeous view. As a record collector I very much enjoyed waking up in the morning and putting on a record. Would absolutely visit again .

  • Sarah’s place is in a very convenient location between Monterey and Carmel with a quiet and private space simultaneously. It is comfortable with a nice view and outdoor space. The shower and record player were both unique and fun aspects of the stay!

    Julie2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A very pretty studio is a very pretty location. Had everything we needed. Wonderful garden for sitting outside. The host has detailed suggestions for local tourism, which was very thoughtful.

    Nicholas2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Had high hopes for this stay and they were realized! Sarah is great and her place is adorable. She was filled with local tips that were right on - we loved meandering around Pacific Grove (“PG”), Monterey and Carmel - and we had a wonderful road trip to Big Sur. Julia’s for dinner; Lover’s Point for sunrise, Aquarium anytime. You’ll love it! We had a wonderful mother-daughter weekend. Highly recommend.

    Amy2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very personable while mindful of boundaries, meticulous without being obsessive , gracious and a wealth of local knowledge. Couldn't have been nicer and more helpful.

    Linda2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • I highly recommend Sarah’s “California Dreaming” Bungalow. An amazing location with a view of the Pacific Ocean. Conveniently located for access to the many Pebble Beach area golf courses and the Monterey Bay.

    Richard2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • We had an awesome time in beautiful Monterey Bay! The aquarium, cannery row, and old fisherman's wharf were about a 10 minute drive away from the airbnb. The space itself was clean and cozy. We loved waking up to the ocean view and having tea by the window or hanging out in the zen garden. We also enjoyed the record selection! My husband really enjoyed the shower with the sunroof because it felt like we were showering in the forest haha! We slept really well during our trip because the space was free from any distractions. Miss Sarah was so accommodating and a generous host that we won't hesitate recommending or booking with her again!:)

This charming historic studio was once owned by American author John Steinbeck. It's been featured in several articles including “20 Romantic AirBnB Getaways”, “Get Cultured While You Sleep at These AirBnBs That are Historical Landmarks” and in Airbnb Magazine's June/July 2019 edition. As of May 27, 2020, there is a 30-night minimum stay for this cottage. Special rates will apply - 65% off the daily rate and no city occupancy tax.
Currently, there is construction at our next door neighbor's house. The work is being done Monday - Friday during the day. Please be aware that there will be some noise during the day. 'I bought a small house and garden in Pacific Grove...' (John Steinbeck: A Life in Letters). American author John Steinbeck wrote these words to a friend about this charming house he called home in the 1940s. This cozy studio retreat has one bedroom with a queen bed and and a sitting area, a spacious full bathroom, and a fully stocked kitchen. There is cable TV and wireless internet. The studio is approximately 350 square feet. It is original 1920's architecture and has short doorways throughout the studio. Taller guests will need to mind their heads passing through entry-ways. It is one of three cottages on the property and has a unique and rich literary history, having belonged to John Steinbeck in the early 1940's. He used it as his writing studio and worked on novels including The Sea of Cortez while living here. It has been renovated to pay homage to the period and history of the property. It has a masculine and sophisticated, yet romantic feel.
The property is in a quiet residential neighborhood in Pacific Grove. It offers plenty of street parking. As for the city, Pacific Grove has been called “Butterfly Town U.S.A.,” “The Most Romantic City in the U.S.,” “A Dreamy California Destination, ” as well as an idyllic place to get married, to honeymoon or to just hang out. Some of it is self-proclaimed, some the acclaim of people who have actually visited Pacific Grove. You will find Pacific Grove on the very tip of the scenic, tree-shrouded Monterey Peninsula with a rocky coastline and an ambiance of charm, grace and beauty. Founded in the 1870s as a Methodist summer retreat, Pacific Grove still bears the look and feel of yesteryear. As you stroll the residential streets admiring the charm of home after home, you will notice little plaques on many of the homes that bear the name of the original owner and the year in which it was built. To qualify for a plaque from the Heritage Society of Pacific Grove, a structure must look like it did when it was originally built. Among its visitors are brightly colored orange-and-black Monarch butterflies, who overwinter in Pacific Grove after traveling up to 2,000 miles, arriving by the thousands starting in October, peaking around Christmas and departing by March. Besides its scenic beauty and idyllic neighborhoods, Pacific Grove offers an eclectic downtown experience, with small boutiques, gift shops, art galleries, antique stores and more. Other vibrant shopping areas are along Central Avenue at the entrance to Pacific Grove from Cannery Row and at the top of Forest Avenue on Forest Hill.
  • Great location,easy communication,unique decoration,beautiful garden!

  • We had a lovely stay in the Writers Studio. Everything we needed to be comfortable was close at hand. We loved the decor and we were just a short downhill walk to many restaurants and activities. I would definitely stay again. Communication was always quick, friendly and easy. Thanks again Kevin and Vicky 🤩

  • The Steinbeck Writing Studio is a MUST DO for any John Steinbeck reader/fan. Even if you aren’t a Steinbeck fan, the studio is a perfect quiet retreat for an individual or couple. It has an eclectic charm that makes you feel so cozy and comfortable, that you’ll want to curl up and read all day. The location is fantastic and very walkable. We walked all over Pacific Grove, Cannery Row and Monterey. We never drove the car once after we arrived. Kevin and Vicky were very responsive and thoughtful hosts. We would highly recommend the studio to anyone! 5 stars all day!

    Blake2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay in the Steinbeck cottage. Easy check-in, and close to the many attractions and restaurants the Monterey peninsula offers.

  • This place was wonderful, centrally located, good access to parking, great Wi-Fi, and all the charm we could handle.

    Bill2020-01-24T00:00:00Z
  • This is an AirBnb you will absolute want to book. Every single detail you could want or think to put into a place Kevin and Vicky did. A book full of tips, suggestions, and reviews of different places around town. The perfect location to access those places as well as a perfect cottage to retreat to after the long day. I loved reading why other people had come to the cottage with the journal left for guests to write in. The place itself was spotless and stocked full of all the things that make you feel at home. I really couldn’t of wanted more or had a better time staying at this AirBnb. Thank you guys again so much!

    Christina2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Not just a historical delight but an adorable and highly functional space. Excellent communication and zero complications or issues! We would enthusiastically stay again. Thank you!

The breakfast was delicious. Just a short drive to everything you want to see in the area. Hope to stay again!

  • We thoroughly enjoyed every moment of our stay in the Monterey area. But what made it truly special was our time at Annemarie and Jesse's lovely home. They were easy going and helpful in every way and made our journey even that more pleasurable.

    Michael2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended - beautiful historic house with wonderful hosts, wonderful gardens, great breakfast in the morning. Always a pleasure to stay here!

    Briar2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful, tranquil, must-stay experience. Annemarie, Jesse and Jocelyne think of everything, and I feel so cared for, body and soul, when I stay here (I'm a happy repeat customer, I've stayed here multiple times on my visits to Monterey). The inn feels like a home - inviting fireplace in the living room in the evenings, nourishing and tasty breakfast in the dining room in the mornings, and many cozy spots to sit in the garden, relax, meditate, whatever you need. The inn is centrally located - close to the bay, Big Sur - so you can go out if you like, or you can completely relax in this cozy spot. This room is particularly lovely- giant bed, writing desk, chairs to relax in, and a distant view of the water. Thank you for a lovely stay, I can't wait to visit again!

There is a gas BBQ near The Retreat for your use! There is a microwave. Dishes and siverware. Laundry is available!

  • Really enjoyed staying at the retreat! It was really convenient to head down to Monterrey and continue on my highway 1 drive. Ted gave a ton of recommendations, and it was really peaceful and quiet in the evenings. I see now why this place is often booked!

    Cameron2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • The Retreat is a super cute little spot to rest your head while exploring the Monterey Bay Area. Ted and Edith are very hospitable and communicative. Snacks and bottles of water were left out for us, which was much appreciated.

  • Great people, clean, great value

  • My fiancé and I had a nice stay at Ted and Edith’s! They were very communicative before and during our stay. The Retreat was a perfect stop on our cross country trip to relax and regroup. It was cozy and had nice ambiance in the front. We would definitely recommend them to future travelers!

    Marie2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Ted And Edith’s place was tucked in a beautiful neighborhood. The AirBnB was fully thought out to accommodate guests in a quiet way. Upon entering, we found the surroundings very zen. Inside, we had the place all to ourselves with everything we needed for a good night’s stay. Bed was clean and comfortable. The Floors and shower was clean. The amenities made the place complete. I would recommend this place.

    Sunny2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • It was a perfect night. Ted and Edith are both kind and helpful. The rooms are very clean and everything you need is in good condition. It was a short time, but thank you for having a very pleasant time! I also want to live here.

    Jean2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • Ted and Edith’s guest house is the cutest little place ever. I LOVED the decorations such the vintage magazine cut outs on the wall and the game board table. They even provided snacks and coffee! The heater that looked like a fireplace was adorable. It was sparkling clean and the bed was very comfortable and warm. I would definitely stay here again if I ever come back up north. You’ll love it!

    Katie2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Ted and Edith's spot was perfect! The hosts were very communicative and hospitable, and the room was very inviting with thoughtful touches (snacks, toiletries, fresh towels). Will be staying again the next time we come through Salinas!

With a car, the place is strategically located so that you’ll be able to explore Monterey sufficiently.

  • Stayed for 2 nights with a friend from college. It was our first time in the area and we loved the location! The aquarium passes were an added treat. Also that we were already in Pebble Beach and could do the 17 mile drive was a fun opportunity. I would definitely stay again, probably for a few extra nights and do some outdoor sports.

    Michelle2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely bookmarking this listing. Lu provides a perfectly cozy spot in a truly special place. 10/10 will return, wish I could buy it and stay forever! (:

  • Great place, loooved the decor! It was an excellent fairly short walk to downtown Monterey and we would love to come back next time we’re in town!

  • Annie and jack's place was great! Cozy, great backyard and awesome location for walking to downtown Monterey!

    Kelly2019-04-24T00:00:00Z
  • If you’re looking for a great place to rest in Monterey, look no more, stay with Annie and Jack! Their place offers privacy and comfort while being accesible from all interest points. We would enjoy the 5-10min drive from every attraction and restaurant we visited. Annie and Jack recommended some great places to eat and sight see. We’ve stayed in tons of places and It’s a pleasure to stay with host who truly enjoy hosting. Annie goes the extra mile. She made some delicious banana bread to have upon our arrival, and during our stay her and Jack made sure to connect with us and our 2 year old. Above all, Annie adds her special touches to the place and you really go without missing any essentials. Shampoo, conditioner, extra towels and blankets, etc. Expect to find coffee, tea and some nuts to snack on. Place is warm on cold nights, and bed is comfy. There’s no TV, but I doubt you’d need one after a whole day of outdoor activities, you will be beat. We stayed three nights and we’d gladly return to their place. Come meet Annie and Jack, you’d be glad you did!

  • This space was a great start to our vacation in Monterey and Big Sur. Annie and Jack were very welcoming and gracious, offering local tips on must-see attractions, and the cottage also felt like our own private getaway. They made it feel very homey with little touches (like a delicious homemade lemon cake waiting of us). Highly recommend!

    Sam2019-04-15T00:00:00Z
  • Annie was an amazing and helpful host, made us feel welcome. Great location and very quiet neighborhood. Her cottage was very clean, private, comfortable with lots of nice amenities. Homemade cookies were excellent and a nice touch. Highly recommend.

    Lucy2019-04-13T00:00:00Z
  • Such a cozy place to stay! It is an adorable cottage with its own private gated yard. The house is in walking distance of restaurants, shopping, etc. while also being in a quiet residential area. The hosts made it easy to check in and out and were great about listing places to explore. I will definitely be coming back 💖

    MacKenzie2019-04-09T00:00:00Z
  • This was a booking made for my Mum and Dad, who were spending a few days in Monterey. Annie and Jack could not have been more friendly, helpful or responsive. And even though their location, just up the hill about 15 minutes' walk from Cannery Row, is already great, they still offered a lift from the Amtrak bus. The studio cottage is really cosy and has everything you need, and there's fantastic collection of music books, pictures and memorabilia to give it a really lively feel. Lovely little place and fantastic hosts!

  • I really loved this place. Clean, open, comfortable, and Ashley was a wonderful host.

    Erin2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Ashley's Cottage was super cozy and one of the most functional Air B & Bs we've stayed in. In fact, we joked that we wish we could move in! The set up of her place is awesome, with a great sized kitchen and a full washer and dryer if needed. Overall, this place had a super great value, was private, and Ashley was very sweet!

    Natalie2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • It's everything that was posted. The place is a short drive to everything we wanted to do.

    Raphael And Jeannie2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little place. I stayed here for a conference rather than at the Embassy Suites, and it was every bit as comfortable and much more reasonably priced.

    Herman2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Ashley was a wonderful host. She thought of everything for this little guest house. Check-in was easy with the combination, she has a detailed guidebook, brochures, mirrors, hairdryer, and laundry. The guest house is located in a quiet residential neighborhood, close to Monterey and Carmel. In the kitchen, Ashley has thoughtfully provided filtered water. The kitchen is otherwise pretty basic, and works for a quick breakfast or heating leftovers. If you're visiting the area, you must try some of the great local restaurants! Our favorite from this trip was Basil's in Carmel. The aquarium, Pebble Beach, Carmel and other attractions were only 10-20 minutes drive away. This is a great economical place from which to see Monterey bay!

  • I had high expectations for my stay from reading previous reviews and Mark did not disappoint! He was thoughtful, kind and his place was spotless. I was in town for the Kyle Cease meditation retreat and Mark’s house offered the quiet reflection spot I needed for a tremendous experience during the retreat.

    Sage2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Easy check-in, very clean room and private bathroom, it seemed to be away from the main part of the house so it was very private and quiet. Mark was home when we checked in and was very polite and showed us around. He offers water, teas, coffee and creamer and has a keurig machine. There is a microwave and mini fridge in the room. TV has Netflix and Amazon. The bed was a little firmer than I’m used to (I like really soft beds) but my husband loved it. There are extra blankets if you get cold. Also, the driveway is very steep, so if you have a very low car (like I do), just go very slow and at an angle. Great host, great place and great location! Thank you!!

    Jacqueline2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Mark’s home was perfect for my short business stay. Quiet and a peaceful environment is what I needed and that’s what I got at his place. Nice space, bed and the essential things, such a great value! Would definitely recommend and stay again!

  • Luna's guesthouse was great! Maybe the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in and the place was ridiculously clean. No issues with the security gate, just give them the address, and check in was so easy with a keypad door lock. Highly recommend three things: 1) sit out on the small patio under the trees and listen to the birds in the morning 2) arriving in daylight, the area is in the forest so streets are very dark! 3) Staying here! Great place and will definitely be back. :)

  • Felt more like a hotel than an Airbnb, but in the best way. Very tiny rooms, but we didn’t want to spend too much time there anyway. Great location! Would have loved to have more than one mirror. Would definitely stay here again!

  • Gas fireplace looks great but does not function well. We used their available portable electric heater instead. It heated the room faster. A little squeaks on the floor but the bedroom has all the important amenities and very clean. A binder was available with all the important information needed. Overall, we love this beautiful historical house. The pictures I’ve taken resulted with so many love and likes in my social media posting. We’ll definitely come back again.

Short driving distances to Monterey, Carmel, Pebble Beach and Point Lobo state park etc. The room/bed is comfortable. The common areas are clean and neat with historic photos of pacific Grove. In addition, we are happy that the room is cleaned every day. The host is very efficient. We received timely email for accessing the building and the room. We will definitely return and highly recommend the place to others.

Clementine Cottage is available for a minimum of 30 nights. From the moment the French doors swing open you're in for a treat. You have entered a private space filled with color and light, fully furnished, and cozy to the maximum, with its own private entrance. We're centrally-located to beach, Fisherman's Wharf, Aquarium, downtown, Cannery Row, Carmel. Please note room accommodates two adults and is not set up for children or pets.
We welcome our international guests. Clementine "cottage" shares a common wall with the rest of the house, yet it has a separate, private entrance and provides all the comfort and relaxation needed to start each day refreshed and ready for fun. It feels like a charming cottage. Complete privacy. Go around the right side of the house and find the French doors that open into your private bedroom. Inside you will find a bathroom with walk-in shower, convenience nook, and walk-in closet/study with window. The closet/study has a clothing rack and contains a table and chair where you can sit quietly next to a desk-level window for laptop work in a quiet space. The queen-sized bed, topped with a three inch memory foam mattress, is so comfortable, supportive yet soft enough to cradle your contours for a restful night's sleep. If more warmth is needed, the cozy fireplace heater will send out infrared heat. Antique dressers and lamps are charming and utilitarian. Original oil paintings hang on each wall, and change throughout the year for variety. Many are local scenes, including The Monterey Customs House, The Wharf in Monterey, the Pacific Grove coastline carpeted with florescent purple rosea mesembryanthemum. The white tiled walk-in shower is spacious and light, with skylight directly above showering area. Towels, shampoo and soap are provided. The bathroom heater makes for a pleasant and nurturing experience. The convenience nook holds a microwave, mini-fridge, toaster, electric water kettle, and coffeemaker, making it convenient for an in-room meal.
This is an old, established neighborhood and the neighbors are quiet, kind, and considerate. We are close to a lakeside bird sanctuary. See photos. Within walking distance is the Monterey Bay Coastal Trail. Follow it for a lovely walk to downtown Monterey, a little over a mile away. Or walk over to the nearby beach and get grand views of the Monterey Bay. You can even walk to Monterey on the beach. Get away from everything. Bicycles can be rented in Monterey at Bay Bikes (486 Washington and at American Tin Cannery Antique Mall, 585 Cannery Row). Adventures by the Sea (210 Alvarado Street) Sights A multitiude of sights can be reached quickly from our location. There is Point Lobos, 17 Mile Drive, Big Sur, Carmel, The Monterey Peninsula Aquarium, and Cannery Row, just to name a few. Eating Places A local weekly paper with restaurant and cafe listings, as well as entertainment venues, will be available in your room. Hidden Treasures Not only will you find historical landmarks and world renowned forest and coastlines, a number of little treasures unmarked by tourist maps or pamphlets are also scattered throughout the area. One of our favorite coffee shops is Acme Coffee in Seaside. They roast their own coffee and provide interesting combinations for your taste. You'll always find an eclectic crowd gathered discussing the latest news, catching up with friends, visiting from around the world and just plain enjoying. Maybe you'll see Carrie the local crochet artist displaying her unique hats and gloves for sale. Lake Laguna Grande is just a few blocks away. A walk around the lake takes about fifteen minutes and in that time you may see families playing, ducks and geese floating in the water, a heron standing perfectly still in the reeds, wild berries in the summertime. We are just a few blocks from the Monterey Bay Coastal Recreation Trail, the route of the old Southern Pacific railroad. This paved path stretches 18 miles from the farming village of Castroville in the north to quaint old hometown Pacific Grove to the south. This runner and bike friendly paved path winds past many Monterey attractions along the waterfront, including giant sand dunes, Fisherman's Wharf, Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium, beaches, parks, historic sites and Downtown Monterey. Several local businesses offer bicycle, kayak, surf, paddle board, in-line skate and surrey rentals along the path. You will delight at every mile, enjoying scenic vistas and wildlife viewing, including harbor seals, sea otters, sea lions, birds and sometimes even whales! Walk, run, or bike to downtown Monterey and other famous local attractions. So easy.
  • I had a wonderful 2 months in Cathy and Robert’s place. I loved the location. I liked how it was so close to the highway 1 entrance. It’s right at the edge of Monterey and Seaside. I think I ended up eating most of my meals in Seaside. The place is private and at the back of Cathy and Robert’s house. You get a private entrance through the backyard. It’s very spacious and had plenty of room to hang up and store my things. The bathroom is ADA compliant so the shower is big but is in the same area as the toilet. There’s a large curtain that pulls all the way around the shower area. It takes some getting used to. Eventually I found the best angle to point the shower head to minimize the amount of water that got close to the toilet. Cathy and Robert were very responsive and friendly. Whenever I had any problems or needed refills in some of the amenities, they were quick to respond. This place was definitely a great place to stay in Monterey!

  • Cathryn and Robert are the best hosts anyone could ask for. They made everything so easy and were very easy to talk to in case I needed anything. Robert's paintings made the space extra special too, and more than once he dropped off some freshly baked bread for me (it was delicious!). I had a wonderful stay and recommend Cathryn and Robert's place for anyone looking to stay in the area.

    Sarah2019-08-04T00:00:00Z
  • Robert and Cathy are THE BEST Airbnb hosts on the planet. They have become family. The cottage is wonderful in every way, and I cannot wait to come back sometime in the near future. Book without hesitation!!

    Alexandre2019-06-03T00:00:00Z
  • The cozy cottage is a great place to live! We stayed there for more than two months and had a great time! The bed is very comfortable, the kitchen is small but you have everything to cook a great meal! We also enjoyed the small terrace in the morning, with some coffee and the best bread from our host Robert. Thank you!

    Annika2019-04-27T00:00:00Z
  • I stayed at Cathy and Robert’s place for two months and thoroughly enjoyed my stay! The room had a private entrance as described and I stayed warm while I was there. I didn’t cook, but they have plenty of cooking appliances available for use. The bed was comfy, the sheets were very soft, and everything about it felt like home. Also, their home is close to so many local spots! Downtown Monterey, the aquarium, and Carmel are all about a 15 min drive. You can also walk to the park in the neighborhood. Cathy and Robert were very generous hosts! And they make the most amazing sourdough bread! I highly recommend this Airbnb.

  • Super friendly hosts with an excellent Airbnb! Private and pleasant, with everything a guest needs for a comfortable stay.

    Amy2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Where do I start?? Cathy and Robert are HANDS DOWN the best, kindest, and most gracious Airbnb hosts I've ever had the chance to encounter. After a month in their wonderful cottage, I feel they've become part of my family. From Cathy's extraordinary fresh baked sourdough breads to the wonderful walks and talks the three of us shared, I won't ever forget my month at Clementine Cottage, and simply cannot wait to return soon!

  • This spot is a great value. The features of this place were carefully thought out and well maintained. You’ll find this place to be better than any hotel in Monterey or small cottage in Pacific Grove. There are two wonderful balconies to enjoy. The living, dining, and bedroom areas are very comfy. We would gladly stay again!

  • Ray’s place is exactly as described...and more! Cozy spot with plenty of natural light and beautiful views. Easy to get to from the highway and a very relaxing spot to return to at the end of the day. Spacious space with plenty of room to relax, cook a meal, read quietly and sleep! The bed was amazingly comfortable! Ray was very quick to handle an issue we had with hot water, fixing the issue in minutes. He checked in with us to be sure we were comfortable and made sure we knew we could reach he or his wife anytime. Lovely folks! Would definitely stay here again.

  • Ray and Michelle are incredibly kind and helpful. They’re great hosts. The guest passes for the aquarium are a nice touch! Super cute space with two lovely decks, and one with a beautiful view of the sunset and the coast. Perfect little get away for two! Thank you Michelle and Ray!

  • All of Monterey has magic and panache - and this place is a treasure

    Hudsen 2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Ray and Michelle's. They gave us local tips about dog friendly areas around Monterey and welcomed our dog to the space. It was great she was able to play outside in their backyard - she loved it. The bungalow is super bright and airy, it is updated beautifully and has all the amenities you need for a cozy evening, we actually watched the Super Bowl here and it was perfect. The two decks are awesome, one has a spectacular view of Monterey Bay which looks amazing at sunrise/sunset and the other looks over the the backyard and reminds me of a tiki hut. The Monterey Bay Aquarium passes are an awesome bonus as well. Would definitely recommend whether you plan on spending all your time indoors or all your time outdoors as the hosts will accommodate your interests however they can!

  • Clean, simple, comfortable house and amazing value for the area. It is a short, easy drive to nearby Monterey. Less than 15 minutes from all the major attractions like Cannery Row, Aquarium, Fisherman’s Wharf, etc.

    Amy2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This house was the cherry on top to our trip! The view from their backyard was so beautiful! Stores are all near by and a park across the street we were able to enjoy. Luyuan even stopped by to check if our stay was going good!

    Ana2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • We were a group of 3 in town for an event at CSUMB. The house was clean, had everything we needed, and was nice and quiet at night. Very easy to find, Luyuan provided all the information we needed in a timely manner and this is certainly a place I'll be looking for next time I'm traveling in the area.

    Dandridge2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • The place is cozy, clean, quiet, yet within 15 minutes driving to the bustling of Monterey. Besides, Luyuan is a super nice and responsive landlady.

    Liheng2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • This house was just what we needed for a busy weekend. Enjoyed relaxing, playing dominos, cards and watching TV. The high speed internet, Wi-Fi and cable TV came in handy, too. Thanks for a great stay!

    Gary2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • I came to spend the weekend exploring Monterey and Carmel-by-the-Sea. Luyuan's place was conveniently located in Seaside and was a great to explore the area. It was close to all of the attractions we visited. The house was clean and tidy, with signs all around indicating what we could use and how. It was easy to find the house and easy to use all the appliances available. There were towels set out, extra blankets etc. conveniently available. Also included was a binder with information about the area and places to eat and attractions which was very helpful. We had a great weekend staying at Luyuan's place!

  • It was a perfect stay for a night. Jim was a great host and had so many nice accommodations in the room.( like water and first aid kits). He also made me tea and dumplings in the morning!

  • If you are a low maintenance travel- book now! He let us park in the driveway. The room was more spacious than anticipated which was a plus. My fiancé and I had plenty of space to lay our suitcases wide open at the same time. They had waters and tissues which came in handy. Highly recommend and the dumplings and tea were a huge cherry on top!

  • Jim and Helen were incredibly warm and inviting. The space was comfortable and very easy to check in and out of. We were blown away by how accommodating they were—and the warm, delicious dumplings the morning we departed were literally the highlight of our trip to Monterey!

    John2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed a wonderful three day at Jim's place while visiting Carmel and Monterey. It's very convenient and a great value with many less expensive dining options nearby too. The room is spotlessly clean with several bottles of water as well. The bathroom, also very clean, is just steps down the hall and was private for us. There is a space heater in the room which made it very cosy and warm. Jim and his family are extremely friendly and welcoming, we loved the dumplings he made us for breakfast!

Seaside is an oceanfront community that is home to many of America's finest servicemembers. Seaside quickly developed around the presence of Fort Ord in the 1970's. Fort Ord, a legend in its own right, was a preferred destination of many young members of our armed services. Known for its close proximity to the water, and affluent surroundings, many of those who found themselves stationed at the historic base were overwhelmed by the natural beauty of the setting upon arrival. A feeling all to familiar to many of those who have come here for the first time. Fort Ord would eventually close as a result of various programs designed to decommission military assets. The closure of the Base and the natural beauty of the peninsula resulted in a large portion of military personnel deciding to retire. With the sunset of the military presence, the City of Seaside became the natural place to settle. Fast forward a few decades and we have almost forgotten that fort ord once was an actual base, and not just home for CSUMB. Given its unique position in the Monterey Bay, Seaside is easily the most diverse city on the Monterey peninsula, literally providing something for everyone. With close proximity to shopping, eateries, and attractions, Seaside is the perfect location to both start your day and rest your head. I look forward to being your host and having the honor of sharing with you the city I call home. -Joseph Astilla

Open only for essential personnel and medcal workers. Not for vacation, recreation or settling in place. Quaint 105+ year old, 400 square foot cottage on a quiet one way street just a short block to downtown Pacific Grove. Beautiful stained glass windows, distressed wood floor and fenced-in backyard with wild overgrown garden. One bedroom/one bathroom; permit allows only 3 adults but it is quite crowded for three adults (and unlimited children) TUL permit #0187
Beautiful old Victorian cottage on quiet one way street. One bedroom, one bathroom. The bathroom is off the bedroom so if people are sleeping in the living room on the sofa bed, they would have to enter the bedroom to get to the bathroom. Lovely stained glass windows in each room. Living room has queen sofa bed and bedroom has queen bed. Kitchen has bistro/bar table and chairs. The house is so close to cafes/restaurants and Library along with Natural History Museum, you may never use your car once here. One mile to the Aquarium along beautiful coast bike path.
Very quiet neighborhood of quaint houses located around the cottage. Please be thoughtful with the neighbors-- some of them are my best of friends and some of them do not want short term rentals in our town (like all towns).
  • The little blue cottage is such a sweet space—wish I could just live there! It is close to the coast and a main drag with shops and restaurants and even a movie theater. Extremely convenient and quiet street.

  • We had an absolutely wonderful time staying at John's airbnb in Pacific Grove. The location is absolutely incredible -- just one block from the ocean, so we were able to enjoy beautiful morning walks along the coast. And the aquarium is just a 15 minute walk along the water from the house! Close to lots of restaurants and coffee shops. John was very responsive and considerate with his communication, which we really appreciated. Would highly recommend!

  • Cute house, literally one block away from the beach. The bed was so cozy and comfortable! I felt very safe and comfortable at the house in general. I liked that the street was quiet and so was the neighborhood. My dog and I loved that we could walk to the beach easily. The location was perfect, away from all the fuss but i could also walk 15 minutes and I’d be at cannery row. I’d come again for sure!! The backyard was fenced off too so my pupp could lay out and sunbathe. I’d say this spot is perfect for two!

  • Wonderful location for a long walk on the coast. Johns place is so cute and has everything we needed. Super clean and so cute. Also you can see the ocean from the dining room window! Loved it. Would absolutely stay again.

  • Great location one block from the ocean. We walked to the restaurants locally in PG a few blocks away and to Cannery Row about a half mile away. We were in town for the Pro Am at Pebble Beach. It was a short Uber/Lyft away. The cottage was a much better option for 3 of us versus staying in a hotel. The cottage was comfortable and cozy. John’s communications and instructions on the cottage were thorough and easy to follow. Thanks for the great stay.

  • Pacific Grove has a jewel in this place!

  • Nice place to stay. Essentially completely automated; you don’t see the host at all, and the doors are keyed to you personally for your stay before you arrive. It’s convenient and unique, albeit a little strange with no one there supervising the BnB.

    Chad2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean. Nice location for visiting not only PacificGrove, but also Monterey and Carmel!

  • The Pacific Grove Inn was a great home base for the weekend in the Monterey area. Downtown Pacific Grove is just a block down, and the ocean itself is two or three more blocks after that. My brother and I stayed in the Melinda Potter Buck suite, which has one queen bed in the main area and a twin bed in the same room but separated by a door. We were on the second floor, and it should be noted that we were able to hear the water running above us. Didn't bother us too much though. Our room was great: the beds were cozy, there are extra blankets and a small portable heater available if needed, complementary coffee, tea, and wifi. The inn itself is great as well: they offer local tips, literature for those interested in reading up the history behind this inn, and emphasize the importance of relaxing and being device free -- they have a common room and area where guests may intermingle, hang out, play chess or cards, or socialize without the devices... should you choose to. Wi-fi was complementary but it was not great in our room; however, we spent most of our time out and about. The parking lot is small: 12 spaces for cars, and 1 for handicap if I recall correctly. Street parking is available if needed. We anticipated checking in past 8, and they were flexible with our late check-in time by providing papers for us to fill out and sign upon arrival in our room. No breakfast provided here, but that should give you incentive to check out the local eateries!

  • We stayed for two nights on weekdays and never saw the management, apart from two housekeepers. However, the rooms were clean, the decor stylishly old-timey and the amenities were beyond reproach.

    Ernest2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Charming place to stay near the center of pacific grove. There could be more space to set toiletry bags in the bathroom, but other than that everything was sufficient for a night’s stay.

    Andrea2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Very charming Victorian house! Self check-in was a bit different from what I was sent, but they are extremely quick to respond to phone calls. Would come again.

  • Great little inn! Walking distance to down Pacific Grove - restaurants, shopping, beach. Would stay here again.

  • Beautiful, peaceful home in prime location. We loved everything about our stay. We rented bikes and just explored the neighborhood and seaside, never had to take the car, it was wonderful. Space is very spacious and light. Hosts are very welcoming and responsive.

  • Very family-friendly home where you feel like a local during your stay. It’s nice to get away from the touristy spots, make a home cooked meal, and have some quiet down time after a long day at the beach or any outing. My husband and in-laws stayed for the weekend and we enjoyed making breakfasts during our stay to save some money and time since we were gone for most of the day. There was plenty of cookware to use. The entire place was clean and we felt at home.

    Kathryn2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • I can’t say enough good things about this place. The location is perfect — just a short walk to the water and conveniently located within 5-10 minutes of everything you’d want to do in the area. The hosts make it so easy — everything is labeled in the house, the linens and sheets are great quality, they’ve left wonderful recommendations... I could go on. It was clean and wonderfully kept and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a quiet, spacious place to enjoy.

    Stephanie2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • This cottage is in a great location, close enough to walk to the water, yet in a lovely quiet neighborhood. The back garden is beautiful! The house is full of natural light and was very spacious for 2 of us. We had a great time and plan to return. Sarah was very quick to respond and check in was a breeze.

    David2020-01-29T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for a couple of nights and were very happy with our choice. The house is located in a quite neighborhood, only a few steps from the sea with great walking opportunities. 17 Mile Drive with amazing coastal views and golfing is only a few minutes drive. The house is equipped with everything you need and you can see the owners eye for details. Though we never met Sarah and Young personally, check-in was smooth and communication swift and friendly. Definitely recommend this place, only wish it had been a bit warmer (we traveled in January).
