This Amble cottage is perfect for exploring Northumberland and the surrounding area.
I moved to Amble by the Sea five years ago and I just love it! Here are just a few things; 1. A proper working harbour with sea going boats..when they land the fish, gulls whirl about to see what they can steal and there’s a beach to meander on. There are boats for hire to see Coquet Island..a bird sanctuary about a mile off the coast ...or for fishing trips, at the Harbour too. 2. A lovely, picturesque Marina to have a walk around with a nice bar, with views going up to Warkworth one way and down to the pier the other. Great place to take sunset photos. 3. Last year, Amble won the best coastal High Street. We have a great selection of shops and , at a time when some High Streets are declining, we’re expanding. 4. The Pods..these are upended boats made into little, cute craft and artisan shops. Located at the Harbour, round the corner from the cottage. 5. Great restaurants on the doorstep! No taxi required. The Boatyard has won awards for the last 2 years as the best fish restaurant in the U.K. 6. A good selection of pubs and coffee shops. A new cafe bar has just opened at the Harbour serving terrific food. 7. Lovely walks..by the sea or in the country..Amble is also very cycle friendly..hire bikes are available locally. Kayaks and surf/paddle boards are also available for hire. 8. Golden beaches that stretch for miles...even in the Summer you can find stretches of beach with no one else there! 9. Lots of local picturesque villages..castles..secluded bays..nice pubs..great restaurants..all within a few miles of Amble by the Sea. 10. And ..the greatest Northumberland foible...you can’t go anywhere without people saying ‘hello’ to you. Amble by the Sea isn’t called ‘the friendliest port’ for nothing!
  • Delightfully personal touches, quirky chic design and lots of information make this place an absolute gem of a find. At the end of a quiet street the apartment has everything you need for a short or long stay in the lively village or for exploring the area Diane has put the guest experience at the heart of her home and guests will be thrilled with this accommodation.

  • We had a lovely stay at Diane’s cottage with our two children for a weekend break. It was our first visit to Northumberland and we were not disappointed with its beautiful rugged beaches and spectacular castles ! Diane's place is well equipped and in a good location to go exploring with a couple of little express supermarkets nearby to stock up on any supplies. We enjoyed collapsing by the log burner after some long walks. We will definitely be back. Thank you Diane

  • Di's cottage is really lovely. Warm and cosy, spotlessly clean and in a brilliant location for making the most of Amble and the Northumberland coast. Communication with Di was great, and she provided lots of ideas and tips for places to visit. We went to some great seafood restaurants just round the corner, had icecream at Spurreli's, local beer at the Cock and Bull micro pub, saw red squirrels and a vast range of birds at the Hauxley nature reserve, and a lovely walk up the coast to Alnwick via Warkworth castle. Couldn't ask for any more!

  • Our second time staying at Dovecote Corner and it did not disappoint! The cottage has everything you’ll need and its so cosy. Such a lovely place to stay after a long walk along the beach, the log burner is perfect!! Thanks so much to Diane for another great stay, we hope to be back in the near future and hopefully for longer next time :)

  • Have had a lovely 2 nights in Damian and Steph's "suite" of rooms - it is so much more than a place to spend the night! I greatly appreciated the very thoughtful touches provided in the rooms (wonderful complimentary breakfast and lots of useful toiletries!) and plenty of room to stretch out. Although in the same house, total privacy and peace is ensured, but Steph and Damian are on hand should you need anything. A very peaceful location with great access to the Northumberland coast and beautiful Alnwick. I would highly recommend this accommodation! PS...thank you for letting my dog, Roscoe, come with me!

    Julie2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely room and facilities - made to feel very welcome. Ideally located for Almouth and Alnwick.

    Emily2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • It was so pleasant to stay at this lovely house. The location is great and very easy to find! The room is very clean and spacious, it’s exactly the same as the picture! The heating system was very powerful, the room was definitely warm enough for a particularly cold and windy night. Damian and his wife are very friendly!! Thanks to their recommendation for the restaurant, we had a great dinner as well!! Thanks for a great stay!

    Wenyi2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great accomodation, particularly the big bath. Comfy bed and great view.

    Rebecca2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Damian was very good in communication , very fast to answer our questions. The room was exactly as advertised: spacious , modern. The breakfast was basic but sufficient for us. Overall good value for money

    Alnwick, United Kingdom

A luxury one-bedroom holiday apartment, situated one minute's walk from both Alnwick town centre and the Alnwick Garden; recently refurbished to an exemplary standard with a mix of rustic charm and all mod cons. This apartment will suit a couple, and provision can be made for an infant; unfortunately we cannot accommodate pets.
This early nineteenth century property was once a Victorian school house, but has been a residence for over a hundred years. In 2015 the property was purchased by its current owner, and no expense has been spared on renovating this beautiful and elegant apartment. The large arched windows have been double-glazed with heritage glass, and the gas-fired central heating system is brand new. Even so, there is a beautiful log-burning stove in the living room fireplace - with fuel provided - so the apartment is truly a cosy space even with its modern, light and airy open-plan aesthetic. Other features include a wet-room with both rainfall shower and handheld showerheads ( the plumbing has also been completely refitted in 2017) as well as underfloor heating; a washing machine and sensor dryer; a fully modern kitchen with a brand new dual fuel cooker, fridge/freezer, kettle, toaster, microwave and dishwasher; a 32” television with Freeview and DVD player; free wifi access; iron and ironing board; inside storage for up to two bicycles; and an outdoor area shared with a second holiday apartment. There is a large breakfast bar (that will also function as a perfect workspace if required), along with a bespoke drop-leaf oak table that is left open in the living room area for evening dining, but can fold away if extra space is preferred. Bedding, towels, a hairdryer, soaps, complimentary shower gel, shampoo and conditioner are all provided. Coffee, tea, sugar and milk will be present upon arrival.
Hotspur Hill House is situated on a quiet side street of Alnwick, a picturesque medieval market town and the county town of Northumberland. The centre of town is only a two minute walk away, as is the famous Alnwick Garden (situated within the grounds of Alnwick Castle). The Tanners Arms - an award-winning real ale pub and staple of The Good Beer Guide - can be found at the bottom of the street. The coast and nearest beach is at Alnmouth, two miles to the East. Alnwick itself is in the heart of Northumberland: a great base from which to explore our fair county, and easily accessible as it is directly adjacent to the A1.
  • Excellent accommodation that contained everything we needed to make our stay comfortable & a lovely basket of treats as a welcome. The apartment is well located for Alnwick & its local attractions & is an excellent base for sightseeing. Would highly recommend

  • The perfect location to explore Alnwick and Northumberland. The apartment is even better than the pictures. It’s spacious, spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished, has a super comfy bed and a very well equipped kitchen so we were able to self-cater. We were sad to leave and definitely hoping to return :)

    Emma2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Ben’s place for 5 nights, and it was the perfect base for a few days in Northumberland. All clean, spacious, and well equipped, and nice and warm; we didn’t need to use the fire, even in a stormy, icy February! The basket of goodies, including drinks voucher for the excellent Tanners Arms next door, were much appreciated. Ideal, all round!

    Laurie2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit to Ben’s apartment - this time for a full week. The apartment is fabulous for a couple with lots of extra features you wouldn’t normally expect. Ben is a great host and provided some really nice extra touches. We enjoyed our second visit equally as much as our first and we will definitely be back. Thanks again Ben. Andrea and Tony

  • Stayed at Ben’s Hotspur House this week (27-31 Jan 20) and had an amazing stay. This Air BnB is very stylishly furnished, makes great use of the space has a very generous bedroom and lovely shower room, living room and kitchen. Ben has everything covered and responded straight away to our questions. Great location for walking and cycling and will definitely recommend to others, really great value for money. Thanks for a great week.

My home is a characterful and spacious 100 year old stone cottage in a tiny quiet street. There's 3 comfy bedrooms, new kitchen and lounge with dining table and Netflix. It is a peaceful west facing street nestled in Amble. I now have a luxury 6 person Hot Tub Spa too! Amble, known as "The Friendliest Port", has made the Sunday Times Top 10 Seaside Places to Live List. Northumberland also won Gold in the British Travel Awards 2018, so come and see what all the fuss is about!
Big lounge-dining room with modern reclining sofas and footstools for seating 6 comfortably. Smart TV with DVD player and a range of dvds for guests to use. A wide range of books and some games for all ages are provided too. There is a brand new kitchen in a country cottage style with modern touches. The house provides all the equipment I have in my own home, plus a full sized dishwasher to save you the hassle of washing up. There is a small private yard to the front which can get a lot of sunshine and is ideal for lazy mornings and summer BBQs. The rear of the property has been completely renovated with a luxurious 6 person Hot Tub Spa fitted at the end of February 2019. This is a high quality hard shell Hot Tub, not an inflatable! The Spa has a solid thermal lid which can be locked in place when not in use, making it child and pet safe as well as keeping it warm and ready for you to use day or night, 365 days a year! There are 3 bedrooms and a family bathroom upstairs. The bathroom has a thermostatic shower in addition to a traditional bathtub depending on your needs. The 3 bedrooms all contain double beds. The largest room has an additional single bed, meaning it can be used for small children, treating the room as a Twin room, or (as it is a quality memory foam mattress) has been praised by guests with bad backs. Utility room washing facilities are provided in the garage for wet and sandy pets who need some extra attention. The street has no passing traffic so is a very safe area for children and pets. Amble has a wide range of shops for you, from unique gift shops and boutiques providing local goods, to brand named convenience stores if you have forgotten anything for your trip. The high street is an easy walk away, but parking is free for 1 hour outside the shops if you would prefer. The take aways and restaurants provide an enormous range of options too, from quick and tasty to award winning dining.
Hope Terrace is a tiny cul-de-sac of just 4 houses. It is situated in a quiet and private location near the top of the high street, a short walk from the river to Warkworth or Amble Marina in one direction, Amble shops, quayside and the beaches in the other.
  • Hope Terrace is a very cosy and warm house set in a small quiet street but close to local shops and transport if you don't want to drive. Ideal for exploring the local area. The house is extremely well equipped and has lots of nice touches including games, puzzles, books and DVD's for entertainment. Not forgetting the hot tub! Myself and 2 friends had a wonderful time and would highly recommend a stay at Hope Terrace.

Lovely touches, like books and games, and clear instruction and information provided. Excellently equipped kitchen and the hot tub is great. Chris is a perfect host, especially when we managed to lock ourselves out within seconds of arriving. Beautifully renovated Victorian coach house with dual aspect views on to Northumberland Street from the front and stunning tidal riverside views from the rear. The Coach House sits alongside a prominent Georgian house, which it shares the name - Seafield. The property is located in the very heart of Alnmouth, with the beach, the pubs, the restaurants and the ambience all within touching distance. Access to the Coach House is entirely separate from the main house, via an inviting staircase.
The Coach House has its own private access and is very much a self-contained apartment. This holiday apartment has been completely refurbished this year, to a very high standard. The Coach House was originally built in the mid 1800's when the entire property was a famous Coaching Inn called The Northumberland Arms. Seafield is a very special property and offers unique views of the tidal riverside.
If you have ever visited Alnmouth, then I need not say anything. If you have never visited Alnmouth, then you really have been missing something special. With the mainline East Coast railway serving Alnmouth, London Kings Cross is little more than 3 hours away and the same train that leaves Kings Cross is the same train that arrives in Alnmouth.
  • Neil's place is cosy, warm, sparkling clean and perfectly located. Just a few minutes walk to the beautiful beach with wonderful walks along the Northumberland coast. The Red Lion pub next door has phenomenal food, and scotts coffee shop has excellent coffee and cake (the Bakewell tart in particular!) Easy (if infrequent!) buses take you to beautiful Alnwick and the surrounding villages. Would highly recommend! Neil was super friendly and helpful, and responded very quickly to any messages.

    Rose2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Clean, modern and cosy with peaceful rural views. Loved being able to walk to the beach and Scott's deli a few doors down was great for breakfast and coffee. Would love to return!

  • Spotlessly clean, snug and in a fantastic location. Everything you could ask for in the house. Immaculately decorated throughout. We didn’t meet Neil but all communication was quick and efficient.

  • Newly converted coach house, very well done, warm, comfortable and only sorry we didn't have more time to expore Alnmouth as it looked really nice. Check in was very easy and good communication. Many thanks.

  • We spent 3 fantastic nights at Seafield Coach House over New Year. The accommodation was immaculately clean and was really well thought out in making use of all available space. The Coach House is smartly designed with a good mixture of modern appliances and original structure features. The view onto the estuary was stunning as is the night sky throught the velux in the snug. Location wise, it is absolutely central in Alnmouth with plenty of amenities on your doorstep. Communication with Neil was excellent and speedy. On Neil's advice, we booked dinner at Beaches on NYE and had a fantastic meal and were made to feel especially welcome by Donald and Sue, a must try in Alnmouth. We can't wait to go back!

    Andrew2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • Neil’s place was fab, such a great location on the high street and dreamy flat. Would definitely recommend!

  • We booked Seafield Coach House for a last minute Christmas break. It was ideal for two. The accommodation was well presented and spotlessly clean. Everything required for the stay was provided. The host Neil answered queries quickly and helpfully. The view from the kitchen/dining area is fabulous - one can sit at the small table and observe the changing tides and skies over the Aln estuary for hours...

  • Lovely cosy cottage, very quiet and very close to a fab pub with good food.

    Nicola2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely place and we were very comfortable here when we stayed over New Year. Lovely and warm - really as much heat or as little heat as you want with very good central heating and a gas stove in the living room, comfy sofas, a great tv with lots of choice, very comfortable beds and a wonderful modern shower room with an amazing shower. I also loved the decor especially upstairs - some sea-side colours with a mixture of old and new furniture which worked really well together. We were not able to use the shared parking space (not sure if the neighbours were hogging this : )) but like other reviews, it really didn't matter about walking a little way to get to our car, you get used to it and with wonderful views of the sea to look at, it was no hardship at all. We loved Alnmouth itself, beautiful beach and pure paradise for our dog, everywhere is dog friendly and we especially liked the Sun Inn for lovely helpful staff and their excellent food.

    Lorna2019-09-19T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great house in a great location. Susan is a very kind and brilliant host, who quickly attended to any questions, she also went the extra mile for us. We came on the train and went on a great walk to Warkworth, and got around on buses to holy island(plus a walk from Beal), and Bamburgh. Alnwick is a short bus ride away and faster buses up and down the coast can be picked up. The house is brilliant we had two teenagers in the second room and one loved sleeping in the upper room. We only had four nights and wished we had more it was great coming back to a cosy clean house at the end of the day.

  • The location was great. Alnmouth is perfect, great beaches pubs and cafes. The accomodation gives you that little bit more freedom than a traditional room in a B&B. Weĺl equipped and host available if needed. Personally would prefer a king size as it's what we're used to (but was as described).

Our cottage is a two minute walk to Alnmouth beach. The coastline is breathtaking with amazing sunsets/sunrises and an abundance of long beach walks. We have a golf course, restaurants, post office, gift shop, deli and excellent public transport links. Our home is tucked away in a quiet lane off the main street, offering a private sitting room and bathroom for guests. It's comfortable, cosy and perhaps bit quirky - the perfect base to explore the Northumberland Coastline and Castles.
Our guest space is all situated on the first floor, with flat screen TV's in the bedroom and guest sitting room. It's warm and cosy with a sumptuous feel, squishy sofas and lots of cushions to dive into. A breakfast Tray is provided in the guest sitting room which includes: Fresh Fruit, Mineral Water, Porridge, Muesli, Fresh Bread, Jam & Butter together with tea, coffee, hot chocolate and biscuits. Testimonial: Here’s what Fawn & Sam wrote: “Julie has raised the bar in terms of her air bnb offering. Absolutely superb room, amenities, location, village, advice I could go on....... and we LOVED her cat (and I'm not even a cat person). Superb host, we were genuinely sad to leave. I can honestly say we will try and return to this wonderful oasis on the Northumberland coast. All the previous excellent reviews are of no surprise. Best air bnb we have stayed at. Thanks Julie!” 10/2/18
Alnmouth village is the perfect base for exploring the stunning Northumberland Castles and Coastline, steeped in history with breathtaking scenery. • Excellent location in lovely Alnmouth. Cosy top-floor bedroom and sitting room. Super views over the estuary and birdlife with long skeins of geese appearing. Very cosy and clean accommodation. Great local information and tips. Very friendly hosts and very relaxed setup. Feeling extremely chilled out on departure. Hope to return soon. Thanks

  • Amazing relaxing stay at the pink house. I was a bit sceptical about staying in a room in someones house but i really didn't need to worry. We came and went as we wished with the occasional wave to John through the window. The room itself has everything you need for your stay with fresh towels, tea and coffee making facilities and even a couple of cans of G&T in the mini fridge. Location is the real reason we stayed at the pink house as we wanted to be right in the middle of Alnmouth. There are some great walking guides available in the room with good recommendations for food nearby. John and Jane were lovely and so friendly, we would definitely stay at the pink house again.

    Matthew2019-11-01T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely warm welcome greeted us when we arrived at John's place in Alnmouth. The bedroom and en suite were both of a good size and next door the sitting area was really handy with its mini fridge, tea making facilities and comfy seats. The whole area upstairs was warm and cosy just what was needed after a chilly day of walking on the beautiful Northumberland coast. The central position of the house is excellent for visiting the nearby pubs and restaurants, John gave us some great tips on where to go to eat (and where to avoid!) we would be keen to return if we are in the area again.

    Patricia2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • This is a gem of a place, situated in the middle of Alnmouth with stunning views over the river. The house is very quiet and very warm and comfortable. Having a private 'lounge' is a bonus. It's a self contaied wee apartment and little touches like the welcome G&T, (with ice and lemon!) biscuits, tea, coffee and milk and water in the mini fridge make it very special. John is there if you need him but happy to leave you to do your own thing. Highly recommended.

Nestled in a quite corner of Almouth, Tin tin benefits from two private parking spaces with an outside plug incase your car needs charging. It is a light open and airy property decorated in a coastal theme. The lounge is upstairs in order to benefit from the views of the estuary; the kitchen is downstairs, patio doors give access to private outside area. Go through the gate and you will find a park by the river.
Located in a quiet corner of Alnmouth the property is still well placed for all that this coastal village has to offer. The pubs, restaurants, deli and the beach are within easy walking distance.
Location is very important. Alnmouth is close to the A1 and has a local train station. Yet once in the village you can slow down, take your time and relax. Go to the gift shop, take a walk along the beach or go for a round of golf on the oldest links course in England.
  • Everything we needed and more. Tucked out of the way but so close to the beach. A beautiful spot that we’ll be sure to return to. Superb!

    Gary2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This has to be one of the most comfortable and well equipped places we have ever stayed, as well as being brilliantly located.

    Patrick2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • We were two couples sharing Johns place. The cottage is hidden away at the bottom of the village and has great views of the estuary from the modern, light and airy living space on the upper floor. The dining kitchen is very spacious and well equipped. One thing that is immediately apparent is that the place is scrupulously clean. Bedding and towels are top quality and the whole place is well thought out and very comfortable. Parking for two cars is a bonus, particularly if you want to lock up and leave the car and explore the many coastal trails from right outside the front door. John is an excellent host and keen to make sure that your holiday experience is a good one. Thank you John. We all thoroughly enjoyed our weekend.

  • I can’t say enough about Tin Tin. It’s beautiful. So comfortable, peaceful, superbly equipped and a great place to escape to. Communication with John was quick and clear. He is a lovely host. • Tintin is a delightful place. It is perfectly situated for the beach and a few minutes from some lovely eating spots. The accommodation itself is superb. Christine and Louise have thought of everything to make a stay here very comfortable, with many thoughtful touches, including cake, biscuits and beer and, since it was wedding anniversary, a bottle of Prosecco and a very nice card - thank you. Would definitely recommend them and their property and would definintely return in the future.

The accommodation is a basic cabin set in our private back garden, three minutes walk from Alnmouth railway station on the East coast mainline. It's a twenty minute walk or 5 minute drive to our beautiful local beach. You would sleep in the cabin and use the main house for bathroom/toilet and the kitchen for making drinks and snacks. The house is occupied by three of us- we have a lot of knowledge of the local area and we are active in the outdoors and indoors! (Running and circus mainly).
  • What an incredibly lovely, warm snd welcoming couple Andy and Lynn are! Highly recommended, especially if you're a runner and want to have a good running chat :). Couldn't have wished for a better place to stay overnight. Cabin is super cosy, house is lovely and the shower is possibly the best I've had in my life - but that may be trail legs talking ;). Just amazing!

  • Andy and Lynn’s family are just adorable, inspiring and full of positive energy! The shed itself is really clean, cosy and cute. It is actually bigger than I thought it’d be and I love every second spent in there. The location is great, only 5 mins walk from Alnmouth & 20 mins walk to the beach! Northumberland coast is just absolutely wonderful, the view from the cost is heavenly and really inspired me in loads of ways. I’m definitely coming back soon xxx

  • The location of the house was very convenient to connect with buses and trains. The cabin was small but warm and confortable. The decortion inside made me a feeling of being in cozy holidays. Andy and Lynn were also very friendly and kind. I very enjoyed our inspiring conversations. Hope to revisit in the future.

Waterside is a place of calm and tranquillity , accessed only by a private driveway down to the waters edge. The exclusive accommodation has uninterrupted views of the spectacular village of Alnmouth village and the magnificent Northumberland coastline, designated as an area of natural outstanding beauty. The cottages are very close tp the coastline cycle route. Bikes can be hired and dropped off at an additional fee.
Waterside is such a special area and the views are spectacular in all seasons. The sea and the beaches are gorgeous and this is where I have spent hours and hours with my children and friends. Alnmouthwhich is a 5 minute drive in the car has a lovely grocery store, gift shop, pubs and eating places. Walking, surfing, fishing, canoeing, sailing, cycling, bird watching and golfing are just some of the pursuits which are on the doorstep. You do feel that you have stepped back in time to an old fashioned beach holiday and this is where the uniqueness steps in. The area is very accessible by car or train but you do feel as though the crowds and the city are a million miles away.
Alnmouth and Warkworth are the neighbouring villages which have numerous eating places and pubs. They are a 5 minute drive in the car or a 25 minute walk along the cycle path. Alnwick is a lovely market town which has lots of shops, restaurants, pubs and the fantastic Alnwick gardens and castle.
  • Great location, stylish facilities, superb host. We will be back!

  • A fab place. The views are great and the beach is awesome. We spent Christmas there and loved it.

    Rowena2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Great location. It takes 10 minutes to walk to the beautiful beach. We walked to Warkworth one day via the beach which took about an hour each way. House very comfy and spacious and the kitchen has everything you need. A bottle of prosecco upon arrival was a nice touch, plus milk in the fridge and delicious biscuits. Some nice pubs in Alnmouth, especially the Sun Inn who made us feel very welcome.

  • Perfect central Alnwick location. Easy to find. Great to have parking space too. Inside super cosy lounge with electric log burner, very well equipped kitchen, gorgeous bathroom and very comfy bed too. All the boxes ticked. Location great for eating out (although we just used the kitchen) and all the tourist attractions of Alnwick. We enjoyed an afternoon in Barter Books :) Just to be aware, as it’s a ground floor flat, then you will hear the comings and goings of the upstairs neighbours. We’re super quiet people so I think noticed this more than your average person. Overall a fab Airbnb home, with added bonuses of milk & wine too :)

The cottage has been tastefully designed, offering light & airy accommodation with easily accessible, disabled friendly features making it ideal for less mobile guests. St Cuthbert is perfectly placed with Craster, Bamburgh, Alnwick Castle & Garden all nearby.

-St Cuthbert at The Old Mill is located in the small hamlet of Littlemill, four miles north east of Alnwick. -Please be considerate when entering & leaving the hamlet to your fellow neighbours, both human & animal ! -The cottage is situated halfway between Alnwick & Craster so is perfectly placed for guests to visit the fantastic coastal spots, castles & stunning Northumberland National Park which are all within easy travelling distance by car. -Craster on the beautiful heritage coastal route is only 2.5 miles away. The earliest the mill buildings appear on a map is around 1820. -The lime kiln (Grade 2 listed) on the opposite side of the road approaching the hamlet of Little Mill would have been a large local employer when in use. Extraction started in the 18th century & it was one of the largest in the country with it's own railway siding. The limestone was burnt with coal to produce quicklime for use in fertiliser & mortar. -There was once a railway station at Little Mill (1847 to 1965), families from Gateshead & Newcastle enjoyed holidays in nearby Craster, alighting at Little Mill & walking with their luggage the two miles down to the coastal village. -The Old Mill building was derelict until purchased from the local land owning Howick family in the late 1980's & was subsequently bought by an order of the Catholic church known as the 'Helpers of the Holy Souls' & run by nuns as a retreat. Local legend has it that Maxine Carr, accomplice to the Soham murders, resided here on her release from prison under a new identity. -The two smaller cottages (known as 'hemmels'), St Bede & St Cuthbert were once the home of farm animals but were converted in 2001. In fact, the word 'hemmel' means a simple shelter in a field for cattle or hay. -The current owner bought the house in 2007 & in 2017 extensively renovated the property to make the accommodation more comfortable as well as securing the fabric of the building & outlying grounds for future generations. -The adjacent properties of The Old Mill & St Bede offer further accommodation options & can be booked jointly or separately through Airbnb. -Please 'like' of page on the 'Book of Face' to be kept up to date with all things with regard to St Cuthbert & Northumberland.

  • Lovey place, would definitely recommend. Very clean, airy and light. Very good use of space in beautiful surroundings. If you don’t have a car, book taxi’s in advance. It’s a challenge to book one at short notice, and some may not know the location of the place. All sorted in the end but a heads up to anyone staying here. John was very communicative and had added some very thoughtful touches.

The cottage is cosy and is really well equipped - there was nothing we needed that wasn't to hand. We really enjoyed our week in Alnmouth and would highly recommend the cottage for a relaxing holiday or break.

  • We stayed in Peter’s cottage whilst working at the castle. Location was ideal and a very short drive and walk into town yet it still felt remote which was nice. The beds are comfy and the cottage in general was cosy, warm and comfortable after a long day working in the cold. The added extras of the streaming channels on the tv was great, the WiFi was reliable and the kitchen was well equipped. Would highly recommend and Weill certainly stay here again in the future.

    Paul2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage. We stayed here to go and see the castle and its gardens, which are in perfect reach of the cottage. The cottage comes with all of the nessacery amenities required for a peaceful and relaxed weekend away. The kitchen was well equipped with all mod cons, and major supermarkets are within easy reach should you require anything. Peter was quick to respond with any questions we had, and was even so kind enough to bring round some wine to save us heading out. We loved our stay in the little cottage.

  • Loan End Cottage is a terrific place to stay, the cottage has everything you need and more and Peter is a great host. From the beds, to the log fire and the amenities it is the perfect base to explore Northumberland or to rest up for a few days. The location is 5 minutes from Alnwick centre which is a vibrant village with plenty to do. A special mention has to go to Peter who offered us a lift after we could have ended up stranded in the snow, such a thoughtful host. Thanks.

Also Jen is a perfect Airbnb host, being helpful without being intrusive. Hopefully it won't be too long until we're back for another long weekend in beautiful Northumberland and staying at the cottage.

  • This place is fab. Just the right size for 2 (and a dog). Everything you need for a weekend away plus goodies for both you and your dog!

    Jackie2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • We booked this apartment for a very - last minute - 3 day trip, in January, with our dog & were delighted with it. It’s a 20min stroll along the riverside into the village, which has a few good pubs, cafes & shops to browse - as well as the castle. Jen provided all you could need for both humans & dogs; scones & cake for the humans, gravy bones & a ball for our 4 legged friend. The apartment was gorgeous, warm, cosy & comfortable. There’s a parking space right by the door & great walks from the doorstep (if you’re feeling energetic then walk along the coast/cycle path to super cute Alnmouth). Barter Books in Alnwick is a must both for the books & their great value food & is dog friendly. We ate in the Red Lion in Alnmouth (also dog friendly)as it was the only place open on a Monday in Jan, but both food & beer were superb. The Masons Arms in Warkworth looks like a place to avoid from the outside but is actually very nice inside plus they also serve a good pint & although we didn’t eat there the food looked tasty & again it’s dog friendly.

  • Cant fault this lovely little apartment. Spotlessly clean, quiet and a lovely walk into the village. Small but had everything you needed for a short visit. Home baking on arrival and biscuits for the dog.

    Sara2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Jen is a fantastic host and the house is just what we needed for a walking break in the area. The place is spotless and cosy and warm and had everything we needed. The welcome scones and cake were a classy touch and went down a treat! We would highly recommend this place if you need somewhere to stay in the area and will definitely be booking again!

  • Rachel's home is so lovely and welcoming, it is very stylish and homely. The Stable is surrounded by gorgeous countryside and is only a short drive from the town. Rachel provided a booklet of helpful information including places to visit and places to eat which was very helpful!

    Tasha2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • It was a home away from home. If we could ever have a country home, this will be it. It had all the homely amenities and had a children corner with books, toys, puzzles. It also had dvds and a Nintendo for a rainy day. The cottage is located by the river and a bridge. It was nice to take walks by the river and look for ducks. Highly recommended for a countryside getaway!

  • Do not hesitate - if you are looking to spend some time in Alnwick to enjoy the walking paths and nature, this is the place to be. Not only can you access trails beloved by the locals just a few steps away, you also can hear the brook and the birds throughout the day. The self-catering is minutes away from the center of town with excellent restaurants, pubs and shops. The “Stable” is immaculately clean, thoughtfully appointed, and the kitchen has everything you need for eating in. Rachel met us upon arrival and took the time to go over some details related to the heating system. There are two other units on the property but you quickly forget about their presence since you can’t see them or hear fellow guests. Spending time at the Stable is absolutely perfect - I have no doubt we will be back.

    Josiane2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully presented and with many thoughtful touches, the Stables was really lovely. Alnwick is within walking distance, but the surrounding fields and are full of life.

    Stuart2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • This really is the perfect base for exploring a wonderful part of the world. The Stable has everything you need - from a well stocked kitchen, to plenty of space for lounging and a vert comfortable bed. Added to this is the great location - just minutes from Alnwick and Alnmouth - and a short drive or bus journey away from other brilliant parts of Northumberland. Really recommend a stay here - and I am sure we'll be coming back.

Really enjoyed our stay, thank you Rachel.

  • Really nice space. Tastefully done out without being fragile so great for kids. Log burner with unlimited wood provided. Fully equipped kitchen. Location is also great - about 3 minutes' walk from Almouth centre. This was our second stay here and as before the hosts had gone the extra mile with thoughtful touches like cake, biscuits and wine provided, plus handy notes left around that you find exactly as you need to find or operate something that explain exactly what you need to do or where to look. No doubt we'llbe staying here again. The location is superb and this accommodation perfect for our needs.

We love holidays here with our family, and we know you will. You are Only minutes’ walk from the town centre in the friendly seaside town of Amble , nationally known as “The friendliest port” Our recently refurbished home is perfect for a relaxing break in Northumberland. The working harbour has a popular sunday market with fish and chip shops and a superb ice cream shop spurreli.com a ‘must do’ stop off whilst heading to the harbour. The boathouse seafood restaurant should not be missed!
A very clean and airy house with a lovely hand made kitchen table with quality friends and family time at the heart of its design. Recently refurbished from top to bottom, this perfectly located house is minutes walk to the pub (wellwood arms is our favourite), and all the amenities on Amble Main Street , from Tesco to local butchers , bakers , fresh seafood selling the best Northumbeland has to offer. Great kids park and skate park with football courts a 2 min walk will keep kids of all ages young and old .
Very peaceful location only a short walk from all of the action. free on street parking.
  • We had a great stay, spot on location for a short walk to the harbour with plenty of shops and great places to eat and drink. Parking was easy and the local Bus services easy to use too. It was very cold out during our stay but the house kept very cosy and there was plenty of hot water for baths and showers. Rik was very helpful, friendly and quick with communication. Great part of the country and a great base to explore from.

    Ellen2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay at the property. Great location, close to amenities. House had everything you would need for a week away. Would definitely recommend!

    Evie2020-02-07T00:00:00Z
  • Ideally located to the town - very clean , spacious living room and kitchen/ dinning area. Street parking without any problems. Rik responded very quickly to our queries. Would have no problems recommending for a break in Amble

    Margaret2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • Nice property in an idea setting

    Gordon2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • A great experience from start to finish, quick communication from Rik and easy check in instructions. The property is spacious and clean, ideally located 10 minutes walk onto Amble High Street (probably quicker without a giddy 3 year old on his bike) and then a stroll to the harbour. We know the area quite well anyway as we have family in Warkworth, but this gem of a place was perfect for what we needed. Kitchen looked new and the lounge was big enough to entertain a baby and toddler when the rain scuppered our plans. They even had an under stairs cupboard full of toys and books! Had to move a couple of candles out of kid’s reach for the stay, but would expect that anywhere we stay. So much to see in the area, we took in Preston Tower, Bamburgh, Seahouses, Barter Books in Alnwick and a lovely hot chocolate stop in Alnmouth. Would definitely recommend Rik’s place and book again!

    Helen2019-12-02T00:00:00Z
  • A very nice and clean house with all modern facilities. Location is in a quiet street within walking distance of shops; there is parking outside the house. Amble is nicely situated for visiting the Northumberland coast and inland areas. Folder left by Rik has lots of information.

    David2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • Rik was so helpful with suggestions and tips on where to eat and where to go. The house itself was beautiful, immaculate and it might sound odd to say but the sheets smelled really, really good. 😁 Great value for money and a lovely weekend away. Thank you!

  • What a fabulous vacation we had at this lovely house. The house had everything you needed and was very clean and comfortable, we quickly felt at home. It is a great base to explore the area and Amble itself is a quaint fishing village. The owner was lovely and gave us recommendations for things to do. Five stars to Rik the owner *****

House had everything we could possibly need. Location was great for Anlwick, we want to come back in the warmer weather and do the river walk that was suggested and see the castle. Plenty of supermarkets close by. We were there in VERY windy weather but we were super cosy and will happily visit again. Highly recommended!!

Our first floor apartment has been recently refurbished. It is a deceptively large property in the centre of town above a sports shop, with large double glazed windows over looking the town, ideal for people watching! Both bedrooms are at the rear of the property, both with double glazed windows. The Apartment benefits from being within easy walking distance to all of the towns attractions including Alnwick Castle, The Alnwick Garden and Barter Books to name just a few.
The apartment is in the centre of town with only a 10 minute walk to Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden. Restaurants and bars are a stones throw away. There is an awarding butchers next door selling fresh meats, ready made meals, pies and sandwiches and a bakers to the other side selling delicious cakes, meals and bread. If an Indian meal is your thing there’s one directly over the road.A drive out to the coast will take 10 minutes as will a trip out over the moors and into the Cheviot hills. It’s the perfect place to stay!
  • Probably the best Airbnb I’ve ever stayed in! Absolutely sparkling clean, lovely fluffy towels and linen, comfortable beds and thoughtful finishing touches...the list goes on. The kitchen was particularly well kitted-out, making it really easy to settle in quickly and enjoy evenings cooking at home. We weren’t there in high season but parking wasn’t a problem at all - free 24hr car park 2 mins’ walk away. Love that a dog is allowed - we will be back with our pooch!

The location is perfect for visiting the beaches and castles as well as the many excellent cafes and restaurants. We were very happy to be able to park right outside the house and to be able to stroll out to eat in the evening. • This is a lovely house right on the harbour, just moments walk from the local shops and restaurants - as well as the beach. Visiting an English beach town you do worry about the weather so it's great to have somewhere like this to retreat to. The personal touches were very thoughtful and I think this was the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. I'd highly recommend this to anyone visiting the area, and advise them to order fish and chips from the cafe at the top of the street.

  • Carolyn was the perfect hostess. She provided lots of personal touches that made a difference for us. she provided a mini hamper of things that would be needed as well as thoughtful things like sweeteners, (my partner is diabetic) as well as sweet treats (mini chocolates) to boost his blood sugar after walks. It was spotlessly clean and the living room view is divine. The picture does not do it justice. I would definitely go back in a heartbeat. This is a must for anyone who appreciates a scenic view. Would definitely recommend to others and will also be going back .

Located on the edge of the beautiful market town of Alnwick, 10 minutes from the coast and train station. 30 minutes from Newcastle. 30 minutes from the Cheviots. A stones throw from supermarkets, leisure centre, and the A1. A short walk to Alnwick castle and the adjoining Alnwick garden, town centre with plenty bars, restaurants and cafes. Ideal for couples looking for a quiet, romantic break in a beautiful part of the world. More pictures of property to follow.
A cozy house with kitchen, dining and living area with log burner to the ground floor. There are steps up to the front door, with off street parking for 2 cars. The first floor consists of a double bedroom and bathroom. Unfortunately the rear garden is in the middle of being tidied up, so inaccessible until summer 2020.
