Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

A warm welcome awaits

Our charming bedroom has a queen bed, sofa, bistro table and chairs and is close to beach access at Southey Point as in our cover pic.The bathroom has a newly installed shower, washbasin and composting toilet. There is a closet and an outside deck space. Although the space doesn’t have a kitchen, there is a fridge, kettle, coffee maker and toaster for the convenience of our guests and continental breakfast items are provided. We look forward to welcoming guests to this idyllic part of the world.

Serene & rustic, rural farm life experience

We're located in a rural setting, ten minutes north of Duncan. This a two acre property on the base of Mt. Prevost and Mt. Sicker, intermittently run as a hobby farm with various farm animals, along with the family dog (Sawyer) and cat (Finnegan). Hiking trails nearby. Ten minute drive to shopping centre and downtown Duncan. Direct highway access and scenic rural routes. Excellent location for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and families (with kids) a nice rural farm experience!

Our tiny cabin is located on a 14 acres property in the middle of the woods. You will enjoy complete privacy and use of your own area on the land, including a pond. Located 2 min, from the Transcanada Trail, 20 min. walk to the Kinsol Trestle, a World Heritage Site with beautiful swimming holes right underneath the bridge. 20 min. to next Grocery store and 22-25 min to Duncan. Approx. 50 min- 1 hr to Victoria. Pottery lessons are available by request if you have always wanted to try it out.

The suite is totally self contained with its own private entrance. Linens, towels, shampoos and utensils are provided. We are at the foot of Mt. Beautiful and spacious walk out basement with an awesome backyard filled with trees and flowers. Amenities are as listed and the place has both fireplace and air conditioning. Great location to drive to the region’s hiking, mountain biking, Duncan downtown, farmer’s market, all the bays visit, wine tasting and great restaurants. Everything is within 30 minutes driving. Christine is a great host and always proactive and quick to respond. We would come back again!

My family and I had a lovely stay at Connie's homey suite on our first trip to the Island for a reunion. Everything was exactly as described and matched the photos! Connie herself was a gregarious and responsive host and clearly puts a lot of care into making the place feel like home. We also enjoyed getting to see her art and meeting the house fur buddies! The area itself is beautiful and peaceful- all in all a perfect home base. We only wish we had the weather (and time) to spend a few hours in the garden sitting area, but it did make for a serene view. Five stars from us and our cat Lola, who was also a fan of the atmosphere!

This was our second stay and it was just as magical as before! The cabin is so comfortable and cozy. Everything you need is right there. Very tranquil and relaxing, especially listening to the frogs and owls at night. You feel disconnected from the rest of the island but if you do need to go into town it’s only 15 mins away. Sara was responsive and welcoming. The soup we purchased from the wagon’s fridge was SO tasty.

This place was a great little home. Very close to the airport and arriving at night, was surprisingly not hard to find at all. All the added touches were amazing and so thoughtful. There were homemade buns on the counter and some eggs in the fridge, as well as other little great nessesities. There are beautiful walking trails near by and a cute little waterfall as well. Would 100% recommend this place to anyone. Nothing bad to say!
