3min walk to castle | Couch Potato Hostel Mix Dorm

JoshuaRating, 5 starstoday
Hands down the best hostel I have stayed in. If you are looking for somewhere clean, comfy and affordable in Matsumoto I cannot recommend this hostel more. The host, Takeru, was ever-present, friendly and approachable, and was more than happy to give his recommendations in the area, anything from local bars, food, hiking trails and even transport options. He is also more than happy to chat, and I even saw him go lend his personal hiking helmet to a fellow guest. I believe the host makes or breaks the experience at a hostel, and Takeru and the other staff go above and beyond to make you feel comfortable. The hostel is situated in an amazing location, just ~5 minutes walk to Matsumoto castle and surrounded by lovely local eateries. Despite this being a hostel, I found the sleeping area spacious and comfortable, and the common areas were lively and a great place to meet other travelers or simply chat with the host about life in Japan. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

Secret hideaway of art, eco, nostalgia

ShiellaRating, 5 stars2 months ago
One of the coolest Airbnbs out there. The house is beautiful and filled with all kinds of interesting music, art, books and instruments. Titi Shie speaks English very well so communication is very easy and conversation is always nice. Breakfasts were amazing you can really taste how fresh everything is as their food is largely farm to table. You sleep on traditional Japanese futons, the room has tatami mat floors and there is a kotatsu(small Japanese table with heating) so it’s a very authentic Japanese experience. Only they are super into Brazilian culture and music so a it’s a fusion experience. I highly recommend trying Tomomi’s bread and quishe it is really the best. Definitely put this place in your plans it’s was truly such a cozy fun stay.

Yamayadori, a private room accommodation where you can rent the second floor of a house

JelmerRating, 5 stars1 week ago
It was great staying in Matsumoto. The rooms are beautiful, and you get the entire second floor to yourself. You can use most of the first floor facilities too, like the shower, toilet and kitchen, all of which are good too. This one of the more spacious showers I have seen and the only one with a handle high enough for people even way over 2 meters. The check-in and check-out were very smooth, and I was kindly helped with bringing and retrieving the luggage from the 2nd floor. Though not the closest to the station, there is a bus that brings you there directly, right in front of the door. I would recommend it for any duration.

I used it for telework. In the evening, I had a venison BBQ in the garden with Shin and the guests who stayed with us.I didn't know venison was so delicious.

Eco B&B in harmony with nature. A double room with a comfortable interior and an environmentally friendly stay in the forest

JacobRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
It really was one of the highlights of our holiday to stay at Il Bosco! The perfect place to unwind and relax from the busyness of the towns and cities. We stayed for 5 days in late May (off season) but it was perfect for us. Lots of nice walks and time to chill. We signed up to the dinner most nights that Koki cooked and that was delicious. The continental breakfasts were also great with homemade breads and a great assortment. Being able to use the large bath was also something we looked forward to every evening! I really wish we could be back there now tucked into the woods of Kamishiro. There were two mountain bikes you could use freely but we also hired a car close by for two days to explore the surrounding area a little more. Koki was also there to pick us up upon arrival at Kamishiro and also offered to drop us back at the end of our stay. Thanks again for your hospitality and kindness!

A 160-year-old house with pristine floors and a fireplace. Restore moisture at a hidden inn nestled in a rural mountain village.

They hosts were very nice and helpful. The home was beautiful and traditional, and the surrounding countryside was very serene and peaceful. The wood stove made the experience cozy as well. Would highly recommend for anyone looking to experience a traditional style Japanese home. Trains are infrequent and require a physical ticket, don’t make our mistake using Suica.

a great place to stay when you're in Matsumoto, you won't find a place that has a better vibe or is cheaper. The place is charming with great communal spaces. Laundry is easy and a great amenity for any backpacker. the private rooms are charming and comfortable. The best part is the friendly hosts. all 3 made us feel at home and gave us fantastic recommendations for places to eat. They even have bike rental for 400 yen.
