Modern Japanese Farmhouse Experience

AdamRating, 5 stars6 months ago
A rural retreat, off the tourist path, but easily accessible by train from Tokyo. We were keen for some rural Japan after quite a few stops in urban centres. The house is in a quiet, unspoilt setting. You can do short walks from the house that can include views of Mount Fuji down the valley. There's other places you can pop into too, such as the Owl Cafe or the wonderful deli/shop at the petrol station up the road. The house itself has kept its rustic and traditional appearance and features, while also having very functional equipment, from Wifi to everything you'd need for cooking. Some great places to read and relax in, from the garden to by the wood burner. We did not have car which was fine - it's just 6 minutes by taxi from the station, but a car would allow you to explore further afield. Ryo the host was very helpful with answering questions rapidly and clearly. I would highly recommend!

SEIUNKAN 150yr-old Farmer's Guest SHOIN Tatami

MajaRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Spacious room in a large guesthouse. The home is in the mountains, so it's a long way between things if you don't have a car. Kazu - the host, however, is sweet and offers to pick up and bring (for a fee), and is generally very helpful. The surroundings are quiet and great. Good place if you want to take it slow. We recommend getting Kazu's Japanese food, it's super good and good for the money! In addition, we recommend going to an onsen nearby, it's delicious. The dog is cute ! Give it a pat, then it'll be happy.

Capetown Resort

I wanted to relax with my two dogs and my daughter. It was quiet and I had a peaceful time with the sound of ducks flying from the pond in front of me and the sound of birds chirping. It was great to feel the sea while taking a walk. The garden was also well surrounded, so it was safe for the dogs to be free. I also used the wood stove for the first time, but it was very warm. I think it would have been nice to have a dining table. Also, it may be because the animals are ok, but I was somehow concerned about the smell of animals and the smell of the house. I will use it again

Quiet B&B in Pottery town Mashiko - Tatami room

Staying with Yuriko san at her home is an experience I will cherish. I loved my traditional Japanese room, sitting in the living room watching the fireplace, taking a long bath in her Hinoki bath tub. She is so generous with her time picking and dropping me in town but also went out of the way to get me to places I wanted to explore in the area. We had fun visiting a strawberry farm, a temple and a sake brewery. She treated me like family even sharing their dinner with me. And her breakfasts are amazing. I definitely want to go back in Autumn. Thank you Yuriko San for being so kind and generous.

Akima Orchard Live in Host Guest floor Family dog

I experienced this wonderful trip with my family. Hosts Ayumi-san, Simon-san and playful golden retriever Fergus welcomed us warmly. Even though my family doesn't speak much foreign language, the hostess Ayumi-san kindly used gestures and actions to make my family feel warmly cared for. The house is located in a quiet and beautiful Merlin, and in the morning, I took a walk with the host Simon and Fergus. We had a great chat. The interior of the house is also great, very stylish, and has a wood-burning stove that I really like. Perfect experience, I want to go back and stay again ~ Wonderful trip at Ayumi & Simon's house, very impressive and highly recommended!

Private cottage in a forest with BBQ and bonfire

RyuichiRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
I stayed here to focus on some work on my laptop, and it was perfect — super quiet and private, with almost no one around. There weren’t any supermarkets or convenience stores nearby, which was a bit inconvenient, but it wouldn’t have been a problem if I had a car. Since it’s pretty deep in the mountains, next time I’d like to come with a car or a bike! The Wi-Fi was great too — I got 76Mbps download speed on the Fast speed test, so everything ran really smoothly. I’d definitely come back! 🫶❤️✨
