Cottage vacation rentals in Durham

Sundial is a beautiful cottage, central to Skelton. The cottage is comfortable and has the convenience of a downstairs and upstairs bathroom / shower and a separate utility room. I booked Sundial for the hot tub and this feature didn’t disappoint. A superb way of relaxing after a busy day. We visited Saltburn (walkable along the Cleveland way) and Whitby (I highly recommend the Park & Ride). Before coming home I drove to Marske-on-sea where my dogs and I enjoyed a gorgeous walk along the wide, open beach. Marske has a dog friendly cafe (The dog house) if any dog lovers are reading this review!

A lovely place to stay! Host was very helpful and friendly. Had an amazing field nearby for kids and dogs. Would recommend!

what an absolutely amazing place to visit, with one of the moat picturesque views of the Yorkshire Dale anyone could wish from right in the backgarden. the cottage is spotless and has everything you could want for a break away.

We had an absolute wonderful two-night stay at this cottage! It's lovely, spotlessly clean, and incredibly well-equipped with everything you could need. The welcome gifts were a delightful surprise, and the hosts were so friendly and quick to respond to all our messages. The location is perfect, just a short few minutes drive to the beach. What truly stood out was their amazing hospitality: we accidentally left something behind, and they sent it to us via next-day delivery without hesitation. We can't recommend this place enough!

Back at Ivy Cottage again, we had another great stay. We love the hut tub and pool table, and plenty of space for everyone. Thanks Jane.

We enjoyed a great break in Peewit Cottage, which was spotless and had everything you need. The surroundings were well looked after and amenities great. The little touches, including the welcome pack (best we’ve had and included the dog!) and Prosecco and strawberries to enjoy in the hot tub were thoughtful and lovely. All the information you need is provided prior to arrival or readily available within the cottage. We used the cottage as a base to visit local attractions, all easily accessible by car. Glen was both very welcoming and helpful. Would definitely recommend and somewhere we would return to. Thank you, Jacqueline!

Lovely cottage well located for exploration of North Yorkshire. The place is perfect for long or short stays, giving you a fully equipped kitchen, ample living and dining space and comfortable and cosy bedrooms. There are also plenty of entertainment options for rainy days in, plus a nearby shop and pubs should you be needing to stay local. Well worth a stay here!

we were very impressed with Nicholas house very clean and equipped every thing we needed was there and more Location was great close to restrauants and Thirsk where we had lunch . could not fault it Will definitely go again

I managed to book this at the hottest weekend with my dog that doesn’t do heat! Matthew and Jess were brilliant, they provided a fan, ice pops for us and the dog! They thought of everything and fabulous recommendations. Sadly my dog was not well and we had to leave almost as soon as we had arrived to get to my vets The place was gorgeous though, will definitely try to go back when it’s cooler!

The studio was ideally located for me to stay while attending a family funeral. Peaceful and private, ideal.

We had a great visit and absolutely loved Bowes. This gorgeous property is situated with amazing castle views and close to all the spots we wanted to see. It was super comfy, great equipped kitchen, we were cozy and had everything we needed and would stay again. Host was very accomodating and this was perfect for our first stay with our new pup. If you are looking for a week off-grid then we would definitely recommend the Hemmel, it was everything we needed and more. Our favourite bits were the views, the peacefulness, and the red squirrels running across the stone wall in the garden! We can’t wait to come back again and explore more of Northumberland. Kate was an excellent host who was extremely helpful and very friendly. We based our plans off her comprehensive local guide folder and filled the rest of the time with the wide variety or board games, books, and DVDs!

Just spent a very relaxing week in The Farmhouse Annex. Liz and Joe were very friendly and helpful hosts quick to answer any queries we had. We received a very warm welcome from the moment we arrived including the very thoughtful arrival package including milk etc. The accommodation was superb, lovely big rooms, very comfortable, well equipped, immaculately clean and peaceful! A good sized enclosed garden was enjoyed by the dog as were the many local footpaths. Thank you to Liz for walking the dog when we had our day out in Newcastle. Slaley Village itself is stunning with a friendly local pub within walking distance where we had good food and drink in the evenings and there was a local shop. This was our first stay with Airbnb and I think we have been spoilt! It was a very enjoyable week's stay in gorgeous accommodation in a beautiful area and made special by the wonderful and generous hospitality shown to us by Liz and Joe. We will be back! Such comfy beds. A bed upstairs and a sofa bed downstairs both great. Excellent.

We had an amazing week it was perfect for the dogs straight out to the Valley Gardens and a good sized, secure garden. Amenities were close to hand including train station and bus stops we didn’t use the car all week. Stunning walks and friendly bars and cafes. The Outlook was an amazing property we can’t recommend it enough. Also check out the spa hotel 🥹

The perfect place for a weekend getaway! Lots of great places to see in the area. Addy’s cottage had everything we could have needed and more. We made good use of the fully equipped kitchen but had some great recommendations for places to eat out nearby too. The cottage is a clean and cosy space and we couldn’t have asked for more! We really enjoyed our stay and would definitely go back.

What a great house, had everything we needed, is modern but still cosy, great pizza place (knead a slice) nearby, and fab tea room on the square. Beautiful local walks - deer park, binchester roman fort by the river. Thoroughly recommend and highly enjoyable!

We had a lovely stay at The Hayloft while visiting my sister who lives nearby. We love the area and the cottage is in a lovely peaceful location away from the main road and with footpaths on the doorstep. We had lots of great days out revisiting places like Richmond, Barnard Castle and Deepdale Wood and Raby Castle. The cottage was very clean, cosy and well equipped with a lovely view of the fields from the bedroom and a beautiful private garden. The bathroom has also been updated really nicely since the photos were taken for the listing and really exceeded expectations. Thank you for an amazing break. We wouldn't hesitate to stay again!

A lovely relaxing stay at this wonderful peaceful cottage. Felt like a home from home, so much so that we've just booked to stay again in July! The cottage had everything we needed and more. Surrounded by beautiful countryside, very quiet, near a good market town with independent shops (butcher, baker, vegetable shop, craft shops). Within easy reach of lots of places to visit in an area of the country that we hadn't really explored before - went on a guided tour of Durham Cathedral, rode on the Weardale Railway and visited Beamish Living History open-air museum. Lovely to meet Sarah, very welcoming and enjoyed talking to her - thank you for the cakes. Sarah sent good recommendations before our trip for food so we could book, including Buen Appetito in Wolsingham and The Fox and Hounds in Cotherstone.

The cottage was beautiful and we loved our stay there. The location was perfect for walks and exploring the area. The cottage was very well equipped with beautiful soft towels and luxury linens, the bed was very comfy too! It really was a home from home and we not hesitate to stay here again.

We had a fantastic stay at Stephanie’s beautiful cottage. The property was spotless, the gardens were gorgeous, and the surrounding village was peaceful and picturesque. Stephanie was incredibly accommodating, even with a last-minute change to our booking, which made everything so much easier. There were several lovely walks right from the doorstep, and we really enjoyed exploring the local area. A perfect relaxing getaway - we’d definitely love to return!

What a wonderful find ! The cottage felt bigger in person than the pictures and exceeded our expectations. The private wild flower garden terrace was wonderful. We really enjoyed our time and Angela was such a great host - from the milk, cake and booklet of great local tips !

We had a fabulous long weekend at River Run Cottage. We loved the view of the river and bird watching from the conservatory. The whole place was comfortable and really well equipped, there was nothing we wanted that we couldn’t find, they’d thought of everything. We enjoyed trips to recently newly developed Raby Castle, Low Force and High Force and thoroughly enjoyed the stunning scenery all around, wonderful to explore an area that we didn’t know at all. We were blessed with hot and sunny weather, this meant we need to manage the heat inside the house and may be a good tip for others. We closed the door between the conservatory and the house and drew all of the curtains during the day on this south facing property. When we returned after our day out the house was lovely and cool. We’d definitely recommend River Run cottage, it’s a fabulous place to stay.
