Lovely 1915 Duplex Apartment near Lake Merritt

Cozy up on the sofa in front of the gas fireplace after a day exploring sites around the Bay Area. This second-floor duplex apartment is spacious--1,700 sf--and features a newly remodeled bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen. There are seven exterior steps leading to the front door and 16 interior steps from the foyer to the private apartment. The steps are wide with a sturdy handrail. You'll be only two blocks from Lake Merritt with three miles of walking/running paths, and an easy walk to restaurants, farmers market, Whole Foods, Trader Joe's, and the historic Grand Lake Theater. The upstairs apartment is large and spacious. You will enter the front door and ascend the main staircase to your private apartment. The stairs are wide, but not steep, and have handrails. The master bedroom has a queen bed with a Tempur-Pedic mattress; we use scent-free, environmentally friendly detergents on all our linens. There is a second, smaller bedroom with a twin bed, desk, broadband WiFi access, and TV with cable, including HBO and Xfinity on-demand. The twin mattress is new. The newly remodeled bath is tiled with Carrera marble. The classic oversized tub with shower dates back to the home’s origin, but the other fixtures are new, consistent with the home’s traditional style. The fully equipped kitchen has new appliances. You’ll have everything you’ll need to prepare a simple meal or a more elaborate dinner. Speaking of dining, there’s a formal dining room and a smaller dining area in the living space for more casual meals. On chilly evenings, cozy-up on the sofa in front of the gas fireplace. The light-filled living room has large windows where you have a close-up view of chickadees feeding in the birch and maple trees. Like most Bay Area homes--especially older ones--we do not have central air conditioning. Oakland's average summer/fall temperatures range from a high of 69-74 degrees; lows 53-57 degrees. But sometimes we have a heat burst that goes into the 80s. We have a window air conditioner in the master bedroom. There are screened windows that can be opened in every room. The good news is that you can leave your umbrella at home most months -- summer/fall is our dry season! My husband, Gordon, and I live in the downstairs apartment just off the foyer. We have a friendly young Corgi, who’s not allowed in the second floor apartment in case you’re worried about allergies. He’s super friendly and a good watchdog, alerting us when someone comes to our door, but is mostly quiet the rest of the time. We have a new washer and dryer in the basement, which you can use. There is on-street parking and possible tandem parking for one car in our driveway. A 94 walk score combined with convenient access to Uber, Lyft, and public transportation make having a car optional. We’re a quiet couple who will respect your privacy. We’re glad to share advice about local restaurants, sights, and getting around. I’m a passionate cook (and cookbook collector), so if you need to borrow anything from my kitchen, just let me know. Gordon is equally passionate about cycling (and collecting bikes). We’ll be around during your stay, so if there are any problems (hopefully not!) we’re available to take care of them. We’ll stay out of your way, unless you need something. Our home is only two blocks from Lake Merritt, which is circled with a necklace of lights and three-plus miles of walking/running paths. Our Adams Point neighborhood is very walkable—casual, popular restaurants and coffee shops are just around the corner. It's also an easy stroll to Trader Joes, Whole Foods, the historic Grand Lake Theater, and much more. The easiest way to get to San Francisco is the Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) that takes you to downtown San Francisco in about 20 minutes. (We often take Uber or Lyft to and from the BART station on 19th Ave in Uptown. Or you can walk 1.25 miles around the lake to the station.) The AC Transit bus stop is two blocks away. We are about a block to highway entrances for easy access to all major highways--it's an easy day trip to visit the wine country or Silicon Valley, as long as you avoid rush hour!

Oasis in the Mission District Beautiful 1908 Edwardian Home

Our 1908 top floor flat was recently renovated. We've tried to respect the character of the home, but our taste is modern and eclectic. The Mission District is the flattest part of the city and has the best weather -- if there is sun in San Francisco -- it will be here. Centrally located, it is 2 blocks from 16th street/mission BART station and has quick access to major highways and to downtown. Blocks away from the Valencia Street Corridor with all kinds of hip and interesting restaurants. It's a nice respite after a day exploring the city or coming back from excursions outside the city. --2 bedrooms with queen beds (one quiet, one with some street noise) --a state of the art kitchen with lots of natural light. Gas stove, electric oven, steamer, and microwave/convection oven. And a built in Espresso/Coffee machine -- individual cups at the press of a button! The kitchen has a seating area that's perfect for having coffee and discussing the days events -- or a glass of wine while someone else cooks. --A dining room -- seats 10 --a comfortable living room --a separate TV room with 50" plasma TV with surround sound. --Speakers throughout the house. Just plug in your I-pod or Mac to our system and use the remote to control sound, room-by-room (even if someone else is watching TV). --1.5 bathrooms (Spa tub and 2 person shower). The half bath is tiny, but cute. --Parking possible. You need to let us know in advance if you will need a parking spot. The garage ceiling is low, just over 6 feet, so trucks, SUV's, and large minivans will not fit. --A very small backyard, shared with the flat downstairs. --central heat and air-conditioning. In September/October, you will be very grateful you are staying in one of the few older homes in SF with air-conditioning. And in December, January and June and July (we're not joking), you will be thanking us for having installed central heating. We love our home and San Francisco, and we hope you'll fall in love with it too. Guests will have access to the entire house including garage if needed for a rental car. We live here full-time so guests will have all the amenities of being home including everyday staples in the kitchen; cereal, toast, fruit, anything in the fridge or on the right side of the pantry. The left side of pantry and bar (hard alcohol) is off limits please. When we rent out our apartment, we are out of the city. We'll be available by phone, and friends are nearby for emergencies. We will give you a code so you can access the apartment on your own, so you don't have to coordinate check-in with anyone. The Mission District is where hipsters and folks from all over congregate. The first area of the city to be settled, it's also the sunniest and flattest part. Stroll to the trendy restaurants and shops of the Valencia Corridor, just blocks away. We are blocks from BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit with many stops within San Francisco) and Muni (subways and buses). The highway (in and out of the city) is also nearby. We love making sure each of our guests have a great time and try to anticipate their needs so you don't have to spend extra time getting ready for your stay. SF has great drinking water so we drink right from the tap. Plenty of paper products available (toilet tissue, paper towels, tissue). Bathroom "stuff" shampoo/conditioner, body wash, toothpaste, hairdryer, lotion, cotton swabs, etc. Our manual has instructions on how to operate all appliances and has suggestions for local eateries, bars, and clubs. Beautiful Luxury Victorian near San Francisco, Beach, Oak

Bring the past back to life in this updated historical residence. The house features original architecture details, a neutral color scheme, contemporary and antique furnishings, contrasting textures and patterns, and an outdoor dining area. Parties are not allowed. This is a beautiful Victorian house built in 1908, with delightful vintage details throughout, and recently luxurious upgrades from top to bottom. It is decorated with French Country theme. The neighborhood is quiet, safe and welcoming. House is equipped with high speed internet (free wifi), flat screen TV, and wash/dryer. Guests will have access to the entire house and the garden. I am a very easy going person. Every guest will be respected and be cared for during their stay. Absolutely no problem if you break a dish, a glass, or accidentally scratch a table or spill something on the carpet. Things are meant to be used and guests should live freely during their visit. I live in Santa Clara, 45mins south of Alameda. Not onsite most days, but always available by phone or text, and will give guests immediate attention. My kind neighbors Dean and Stacy offered to help in emergency situations. My grown up son, Sean (25), lives half miles away from the Airbnb is able to help as well. The home is in a charming neighborhood where people are very friendly and welcoming. It is walking distance to Webster Street, filled with restaurant and shops, and a few minutes walk to the Crown Beach with miles of trails and stunning views. The Victorian house is convenient and central located, walking distance to coffee shops, restaurants, 7 miles to Oakland International airport, 4 miles to Coliseum, Oracle Arena. Going to San Francisco, 12 miles by land, you have the options of taking the ferries, Bart (Lake Merritt Station) and bus AC Transit Route O (Santa Clara/9th bus stop, a few minutes walk) https://sfbaytransit.org/actransit/route/O Party is not allowed and quiet time is 9:30pm.
