The cottage was perfect for us five, clean, practical and cosy. We really enjoyed being on the croft, and at the time of lambing ! Thank you Bruce, Jean and John for your warm welcome. We had a wonderful stay and would love to come back.

We really enjoyed having the comfort of East Gate to return to after our days out. The accommodation was beautifully clean on arrival and with all we needed to keep it tidy while we were there. The décor is stylish and relaxing and the house is warm and comfortable with plenty of hot water available. Everything that one might need seems to be provided in the house and it certainly felt like a 'home from home'. Karen is a welcoming host who replies very quickly to any communications. If I return to Shetland I would certainly book again as East Gate is in a great central location for all the islands.

What a wonderful place! Perfect if you want to get away from it all and enjoy many home comforts. Sylvia was fabulous. We arrived at dead of night in thick snow after a flight delay due to extreme weather. Sylvia quickly contacted a friendly neighbour who came around instantly with a shovel to clear the snow. Her kitchen is the best stocked one I have ever stayed at. Vidlin is a great base to explore Shetland including the far north islands of Yell and Unst. The whole area is a walkers paradise with beautiful scenery all around. Due to the season most tourist places are closed so you need to be a pretty independent traveller. Stock up on food shopping in Lerwick although there is a small convenience store a short walk away - no pubs or close by restaurants/cafes.

The cottage was spotless and very well equipped. The rural location was totally quiet and peaceful, just as we like it, while being convenient to access most areas of Shetland. Karen was a wonderful host, very helpful, understanding and flexible when a storm changed our travel arrangements. We will certainly be back for another visit in future.
