Places to stay in Point Arena
Windy Hollow Farm is an off-the-grid farmstead on the Mendocino Coast. Staying on the farm offers a glimpse into farmstead living and a chance to disconnect. We have 2 small hand-built sleeping cabins. The cabins are simple, cozy & rustic with woodstoves, outhouses, and a shared kitchenette and outdoor shower.
Camping cabins available on a 20-acre organic farmstead and educational farm. Our two sleeping cabins and kitchen cabin are hand-built with simple amenities. All of the farm is off the grid with solar power. The cabins have outdoor composting toilets. An enclosed outdoor shower with hot water is located a short walk from the cabins, near the main house. The shared kitchenette is equipped with basic cookware, a cookstove and mini-refrigerator. (Please note: the kitchen cabin does not have heat and can be a bit chilly in the winter.) Wood stoves warm the cabins and firewood is provided. The yellow cabin has a queen size bed downstairs as well as a full-size folding futon mattress in the sleeping loft accessed via a folding attic ladder. Families with small children should note that the cabins are next to a small pond. The cabins are small and best suited for individuals, couples, or families with young children. Groups of 3+ adults (depending on sleeping arrangements), or families with older children, might want to consider renting both cabins. Reserve the red cabin through the Windy Hollow Red Camping Cabin listing. Both sleeping cabins and the kitchen cabin are located in close proximity to one another. Guest parking is located approximately 300' from the cabins; a marked trail leads directly to the cabins and a wagon is available for schlepping stuff.
Windy Hollow Farm is less than a mile from Main Street in Point Arena. We are near the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands, Point Arena Lighthouse, the Arena Cove and numerous beaches.
  • Such a beautiful and inviting place! So many thoughtful touches in a gorgeous setting. Thank you so much for your graciousness.

  • Another night in the yellow cabin well spent... can’t ask for anything more than to play scrabble by fire light and fall asleep to the sounds of a frog chorus!

  • Very nice getaway spot if you want to unplug. Some very nice walks along the coast. Be sure to check out the amazing starry sky.

  • Great place to stay, extremely comfortable, spacious, cosy beds and very nice town that is close by. Excellent for families, space upstairs is for children 5 and older for sleeping (my opinion). My two girls (2, 8) loved it and so did I! Highest recommendations.

  • Wonderful, peaceful and natureful stay in a lovely cabin. Thoughtful conversation with host. Inspiring way of living off the grid. Thank you!

  • The beauty of the place being in nature also makes it difficult to find.

  • Absolutely lovely people, place and area. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our cozy cabin and all the amenities shared around it. It felt like an extra vacation on top of our road trip. Would highly recommend it! Cool people cool place.

    Point Arena, CA, United States

Sunny private room & bath, in artist's home/gallery on the Mendocino coast. Queen bed, seating area, dresser, closet, coffeemaker, fridge, microwave. Front yard "living room," super short walk to downtown Point Arena. Walkable to ocean hikes! PLEASE NOTE: On order of the State of California, Mendocino County and the City of Point Arena, my listing is unavailable through May 2020 due to to the COVID-19 pandemic.
It is a charming, often sun-drenched, comfortable room and bath located on the ground floor front of a house in the heart of Point Arena, one of California's tiniest incorporated cities. Located only 25 feet from Hwy. 1 (Main Street), the house and room are nonetheless very private, shielded by a cedar tree right in front of the Angelwing's east-facing picture window. Hwy. 1, which runs along the edge of the Pacific Ocean, is not only gorgeous, but civilized: traffic drops to nearly nothing after dark and this location is quiet at night. In the morning, though, you will hear traffic as the town wakes up. The Angelwing Room is convenient because nearly every amenity that PA has to offer is accessible on foot. You can drift out the front door and within minutes, get the best chocolate croissant from here to SF and a dark french roast, enjoy the hushed interior of a historic theater, have a nice glass of wine in a sophisticated atmosphere (at 215 Main, on the east side of the street) or - after a 3/4-mile walk to our cove - sit mesmerized by the ebb and flow of the immense Pacific Ocean. The house is Lauren's art studio and business headquarters, so either she or her son Adrian or ex-husband Lu will be available to give you directions, help, and advice. Lauren is the former Mayor of Point Arena and knows where you might want to go, what you might like to see, hear and do. Local beaches and ocean access points may interest you, or you may just want to get away. The Angelwing Room, in the heart of Point Arena, is a very good place to be far from the rest of the world; because of coastal fog, it can be like a modest, modern Avalon. The house itself is an old redwood structure dating from around 1900, remodeled in the sixties. It is funky, but full of creativity and (we hope) charm! We strive to keep the room spotlessly clean and the hall area neat; at the same time, it is an old house with some original decorative features. It has been home to Lauren and her (now grown) sons and many sleep-overs, gatherings of friends, political events, and late night working since she came to California in a school bus in 1999. She and her sons lived a year in that bus in the redwoods, then bought this magical place in 2000. It is very lived in, but the guest room is the most modernized part. A note about climate: the northern California coast is very cool and often damp. Bring warm clothes no matter what the season!
TINY CITY The neighborhood is unique in being an incorporated city, but so very small! It is one of California's five smallest cities. By necessity it is close-knit, if not always harmonious. Point Arena is old-fashioned in its lack of sprawl, yet almost everything you need is here, within one square mile! YOU ARE RIGHT ON HWY. 1 This is great, and even mostly quiet after dinner time, because of our remote location. Be aware though that people start getting to work around 6 to 8am, and you will hear this traffic. THE PACIFIC PLATE The notorious San Andreas Fault runs along the California coast, much of it off shore. But here, the fault carves a tiny chunk of land out of the Continental Plate and takes us into the huge Pacific Plate. The Fault goes out to sea 3 miles north of Point Arena, in the Stornetta Flats and again about 35 miles to the south. So Point Arena and the Angelwing Room are on the tectonic plate traveling slowly north while most of the rest of North America is heading south. It feels like a separate world out here, and geographically it is. Come experience it for yourself! COOL OCEAN AIR Please note also that the coast has much more moderate weather than even a few miles inland. When you are roasting in the summer, visit here - it will be 20 degrees cooler! When you are freezing in the winter, here it will be more mellow, cool, moist weather perfect for your skin.
  • Delightful!

    John2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren's house is perfectly situated in Point Arena within easy walking distance of the tiny downtown area. Lauren is the perfect host, easily accessable but not intrusive. The room is spotlessly clean, eclecticly decorated and with Lauren's artwork on the walls. What's more, Lauren was so kind and helpful when I realized that I had left my camera bag (with camera and all my equipment) at home!! I definately intend to return!

    Richard2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • It was a great pleasure to meet Lauren, her son and their new puppy. Lauren has been extremely helpful and she anticipated all our needs. The room was great and super comfortable. Point Arena, Gualala and its surroundings are a superb spot to get some fresh air and enjoy the beauty of California. I would definitely recommend staying at Lauren’s as she has been a fantastic host during our trip. Very accommodating and responsive. And what an interesting woman! Very kind, very unique and interesting life.

    Ilias2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren was an excellent host and extremely accommodating. We had such a rejuvenating rest staying in the beautifully decorated and artistic Angel Wing. Bed was very cozy and the location couldn't be any better. Definitely a must for anyone driving through the Mendo coast.

    Cameron2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • This is a lovely room and very convenient to all Point Arena has to offer.

    Dianne2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • I would really recommend staying here! I loved exploring around Point Arena and went on the most beautiful hikes nearby! Lauren had great ideas on things to do and her home is located in a really great area.

    Julia2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Lauren's room was comfortable and decorated from floor to ceiling with personal touches, though the space might be small if you're accustomed to spreading out. She was great at communicating with us and understanding when we couldn't provide an ETA as promised due to lack of cell signal on the coast. We'd love to stay again next time we're around Point Arena!

    Ashley2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • This is my 21st stay with Lauren. No further explanation or recommendation required. Always great.

  • Great location! Beautiful setting! We had a great time.

    Racheal2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time ringing in the new year at your lovely well appointed property. The giraffes were especially magical. Thank you.

    Kelli2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • A view of the giraffes from the hot tub. What's not to love?

    Holly2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cabins are great! If it’s in the winter it can get a bit chilly so bring cozy clothes but the tour of the animals is fun and worth doing. It is a great weekend stay!

    Savannah2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Dr Frank and Judy’s cabin was even better than I expected; the photos don’t do it justice. The place is beautiful inside and out. My son, husband, and I are all at or around 6 feet tall and the beds and seating area were definitely not made to our taller scale but the full-sized bed was very comfortable if tight and the four of us (including my under 6 foot daughter) made the seating area work comfortably for us. Definitely take the tour. The only sour note on the trip for us was the fact that the hot tub never went over “bath tub” temperature and was too cold to enjoy at night. I did tell Judy and she had the housekeeper come out and check on it but she wasn’t able to do anything. I also was dismayed to learn that the doors don’t lock from the outside. We were able to lock up at night with us inside but it made me nervous to leave my belongings in an unlocked space when we left the preserve. Over all our stay was very relaxed and cosy, I’m already feeling nostalgic about our time there!

    Melaine2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • Unique location, you can see the giraffes from the backyard. Glad we found it

    Sofya2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Staying here exceeded our expectations. It is truly a one of kind location. The cabin itself was wonderful, adequately roomy and the hot tub was welcomed after a long day of travel. Take the tour. You will not be disappointed and will definitely learn about the animals on the property.

    Beth2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful and rejuvenating time relaxing at the cottage! The place was easy to find and very quiet. The mornings had gentle awakenings with birds, the cottage held a lot of vintage details in its design, the furniture was comfortable, and clean and thoughtfully-appointed. We brought our own food in a cooler and had everything we needed to prepare meals, including the oven and microwave. Judy was very responsive and helpful, and checked in with us during the tour to make sure we had what we needed. It was really easy to walk to the quaint main street of the town, too. (Note for tall guests: My husband is 6' and he found the bed and couch a little short for lying down on, but it did not detract from our stay and he slept well. We both have back problems and felt well-rested.) We also took the tour and were very pleased to see the emphasis on conservation and behavioral science, as well as the partnerships that the preserve is actively pursuing. We are recommending it to our friends and definitely plan to return! (P.S. Another plus was there is a friendly cat on the property who will walk you back to your cottage in the dark!)

    Point Arena, CA, United States

Simple cabin deep in redwood forest, with screaming fast wi-fi. Clean with rudimentary facilities (no bathroom – just an outhouse adjacent). Hot water at sink for sponge bath, plus hot outdoor shower, totally exposed to forest and sky, as a backup. New pricing includes mandatory 11% in local hotel taxes.
"I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived." Charming 250 sf wood cabin, with queen mattress in sleeping loft. Cabin is surrounded by several paths through forest acreage, alive in winter rains with matsutake, black morels, king boletes and chanterelle mushrooms. Cabin is 75 feet downhill from its own private driveway. The property is located near the end of a mountainous dirt road, on a coastal ridge, 3 hours north of San Francisco. CHAPTER 2: I got up early and bathed in the pond; that was a religious exercise, and one of the best things which I did. – Thoreau Evoke your own narrative experience of Thoreau's 2 years spent in a cabin near Concord Mass. You may not be jumping into the cold Pacific Ocean, for example, but you're only spending 5 nights! You can practice the art of the mini sponge bath at the kitchen sink. There is excellent hot running water in the cabin. PLUS you will gain the practical knowledge of another charming throwback to Thoreau's era –an adjacent outhouse. Although there is no 21st century bathroom/toilet at the cabin, private outhouse has had minimal use over the years. Path to and from privy is floodlit. Cabin is electricity (surge protected) and features small cooking stovetop and propane heat. Architect designed steel counter tops and wood cabinets. Some creature comforts (down blanket and Corbusier chaise), along with writing table, chair, ink pen, manual typewriter, ream of paper and small lit library. The geographical area features many hillside and coastal hiking trails, an historic lighthouse, restored movie theater, French bakery, library, and fine dining. Wine tasting tour, 1 hour by car, in the Anderson Valley (still free). The cabin is available for stays of 3-5 nights and will be undergoing a few simple upgrades in late 2014/2015. Come visit while Thoreau's cabin remains in its simplest incarnation, bargain pricing.
Fresh air, quiet surrounds. Young redwood forest envelops this cabin and property. Isolated, safe, protected and located 1.2 miles down a dirt road.
  • Great space. Quiet in the woods and a short drive to the coast. Plenty of good reading in Randall’s library. Perfect for a nature getaway. I would go back!

  • This place is a hidden gem. It's a small cabin up in the woods and has everything you need for a weekend getaway. There's so many wonderful books to read and is the perfect place to cozy up and relax. It's only a 10-15 minute drive down to Point Arena area but still feels very much in the woods and secluded.

    Katie2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • What a gorgeous cabin in the woods! Thanks so much to Randall for an absolutely fabulous weekend away :)

    Alex2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • A great quiet getaway. Very peaceful and a lovely place for creative work.

    William2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • I think the mark that any air bnb should strive to hit is making it so there guest never want to leave. This place nailed that for me. The bed in the loft gives you a sensation of sleeping in a tree house. The outdoor shower was the perfect way to rejuvenate the body after a long hike. The near by beaches provided plenty of beautiful coastal scenery. Can't wait to come back and get more writing done!

    Javier2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Loved Randall's cabin in the woods. The home is cozy, with many books to read. The cabin's heater worked wonderfully and kept me warm all night, even in February temperatures. I would highly advise against getting there after dark as it is very secluded and the map was a bit confusing but after finding it, it was a treat. A reminder that there is no bathroom, only an open outhouse but it did the job. Thanks Randall!

Tidewater Cottage is a special place in a special town. One of the oldest houses on the Mendocino coast, it offers a unique stay for the adventurous and fans of classic style. Featuring a newly remodeled bathroom, laundry on site, and ample space for a small family or multiple couples, Tidewater is a perfect base to explore the Mendocino coast and get to know Point Arena, one of the friendliest, most down-to-earth towns on Highway 1.
The living room and downstairs bedroom enjoy central heat, but you'll need to use and monitor the space heaters in the upstairs bedrooms (they heat the rooms quickly but should NOT be left unattended). Though the downstairs heater and space heaters are more than adequate to keep the house comfortable, as an older house in a cool climate, things can get chilly around the edges! It's recommended you bring comfy warm clothes and especially some thick socks and/or slippers to keep your feet warm on the tile of the bathroom and kitchen. The kitchen features a gourmet 6 burner gas range, oven, dishwasher, and a dining table for 4. There are many excellent local dining options, but cooking a gourmet meal in the kitchen is eminently possible. I provide coffee and tea (with creamer and sugar) as well as instant oatmeal and granola bars for all guests.
Tidewater Cottage is about two blocks from the main drag, with cafes and restaurants and a movie theater (which provides an awesome mix of first run film, archival movies, and live art performances) all within a block or two on Highway 1, or Main street as it's called in town. The port, about 3/4 of a mile down Port road, also has a coffee shop and restaurant , a fantastic place to catch an ever-spectacular Point Arena sunset. Other great local attractions include Bowling Ball Beach, Manchester State Beach, the Stornetta Coastal National Monument, the B. Bryan Wildlife preserve featuring giraffes and other African mammals, and the local Pomo casino.
  • Evan is very responsive to questions. His small place is charming and comfortable. Great beds and bathroom. We've paid twice as much without the comfort and charm here! We love Point Arena and hope to return often.

  • Great cottage in a quiet coastal location! The private balcony with an ocean view is perfect for morning coffee, or late-night stargazing. Leave the windows open and enjoy the sound of the waves and a nice cool breeze as you doze off. The jetted tub after a long day of sightseeing or hiking is a welcome respite, capped off by the cutest wood stove warming up the space. Everything you need in a cottage for a quiet getaway weekend, or as the jumping-off point for coastal adventures! Point Arena Cove is so quiet and beautiful, but also has everything you need for a great weekend getaway - Cove Coffee for breakfast or a grab-and-go lunch (which also has a great little shop with souveniers, snacks, drinks, and surf gear!), Cove Pizza that has amazing wood-fired pizza and brews, and the cove has some gorgeous rocky beaches! • A wonderful quiet spot to get away near the ocean. There’s a great breakfast spot within walking distance (at the wharf building).

    Maria2019-03-31T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was charming inside, with efficient and beautifully crafted built-in wood work around the bed. The view was lovely, and the location was great to go down to the harbor for coffee or seafood. It was comfortable-shoe walking distance to Point Arena, and the theater in town, or the 215 bar both have live music sometimes. We found the bed and pillows very comfortable, and the sheets were soft and luxurious.

  • I heard my friend say, "I could live here." The carriage house was that nice and comfortable and thoughtfully put together. I would recommend B Bryan Preserve to anyone, both for the lodging and the tour (which you separately sign up for). I plan on coming back next year.

    Alice2019-10-07T00:00:00Z
  • An extremely unique experience. Staying on a wildlife preserve in wonderfully quirky Point Arena was wonderful. The accommodations are clean and reflect the personality of the property owners. It isn't what I would call "fancy." Pretty basic kitchen, electric stove, etc. but it more than served our needs and made for a great and well-priced home base for exploring the Mendocino coast from Gualala up to Fort Bragg (and everything in between). We stayed at the accommodation above the garage. Just note that the ceiling slopes along with the shape of the roof itself so "watch out." if you don't like that, you probably should find another room on the property. Visiting the wildlife sanctuary is a must. It's also surprisingly affordable. I recommend Dr Frank and Judy's place highly!

    Damon2019-08-10T00:00:00Z
  • This place is pretty cool. The Carriage House is bigger than it looks which was nice. Plenty of room. Everything you would need is there. Clean, quiet and charming. Definitely recommend this place!!

    Kim Mechele2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • The carriage house was well located. Great central location for adventures on the Mendocino and Sonoma coast. Super clean and quiet! Both Judy and the staff (the housekeeper was kind enough to show us the entry to the carriage house when we got confused) are helpful and friendly. If someone in your family is into animals you can't beat the convenience of walking to the tour starting location.

  • This is the second time we've stayed in the carriage house. It's a cozy space with lots of fresh air. Frank and Judy responded in about 1 minute one evening when we were stranded without a response from another host and needed a place to settle in. They made sure everything was clean and got us booked in minutes. Like last time, we had a blast. Everyone slept well, the kitchen is fun for cooking, and the living room area is great for reading. We would like to go back a third time.

Our property also has some of the most spectacular ocean views in the world on 23 private acres. Free Lighthouse Museum and Tower tours are included with your stay. This is not a pet-friendly unit.
This romantic and intimate 1 bedroom, 1 bathroom unit at the back of the Head Keeper's House was part of the home that used to house the Head Lightkeeper and his family when the Lighthouse required onsite management. It is a comfortably-furnished, cozy room about the size of a standard Hotel room. The Keeper's Room has 1 Queen bed with a very comfortable Tempur-Pedic mattress, a full bath, electric fireplace, and a small sitting area with a table and 2 chairs. The Keeper's Room does not have a kitchen but does include a microwave, mini-fridge, and coffee maker with provided coffee and teas. This is our most romantic and intimate vacation cottage and has one of the best views of the Lighthouse itself, right out your front door. Perfect for 1 or 2 people looking for unparalleled views of the Lighthouse and rugged North Coast. The Pacific Ocean is out your front door, the coastal mountain range and Manchester State Beach are just to the east and you are only a few steps away from the Point Arena Lighthouse and Museum. There is plenty of parking just across the road. Your stay includes unlimited tours of the Lighthouse Museum and Tower, a complimentary bottle of Husch wine, Mendocino Chocolate Company chocolates and free run of the 23 acre grounds.
Besides the Pacific Ocean, the Lighthouse is surrounded by the recent addition to the Greater Farallones and Cordell Bank National Marine Sanctuaries, the Point Arena-Stornetta Public Lands unit of the California Coastal National Monument. The only land-based part of the National Marine Sanctuaries, this 1,665 acre jewel was listed by the New York Times as one of the top 3 of the 52 Places to Go in 2014. Surrounding our Lighthouse and stretching all the way to the town of Point Arena, this wild and beautiful place includes access to 12 coastal miles of undeveloped federal and state-managed public lands, coastal bluffs, the estuary of the Garcia River, sandy beaches and dunes, and adjacent small islands accessible during low tide. And it is free to visit! Don’t miss this unique and spectacular “neighbor” while you are here. The city of Point Arena is just 3.5 miles away, and boasts several restaurants, cafes, live music, the Arena Theater which show first run movies and presents live concerts, an art collective gallery, the B. Bryan Preserve with zebras, giraffes and more, and a working harbor. 14 miles south is the town of Gualala which is home to several art galleries, shops and restaurants along with two supermarkets and two gas stations. Heading north for 6 miles gets you to Manchester, with a market and hardware store and several coastal access routes to Manchester State Beach. Ranging farther north will take you to Elk, Little River, Mendocino and Fort Bragg. A short 25 minute drive south will bring you to Gualala with its shops, markets, 2 gas stations and the amazing Gualala Arts Center.
  • This location is stunning. With your rental you get complimentary access to the tallest lighthouse in the west, and the lighthouse museum. The view from the top is breathtaking. We saw whale spouts and flukes within minutes. The staff was friendly and accommodating. The room is small, but comfortable and warm, with a cozy bed, and a welcoming bottle of wine to greet us.

  • My fiance and I recently stayed the evening here at the Point Arena Lighthouse and had an excellent experience. Mark and the rest of the team at the lighthouse were very accommodating and gracious hosts — we enjoyed touring the Museum and Lighthouse, and learning more about the property's rich history. The grounds are delightful, an we enjoyed strolling to the various nearby beaches and viewpoints. The accommodations were excellent — clean, comfortable, and functional. This was our first stay at the Point Arena Lighthouse, but will certainly not be our last. We look forward to visiting again in the near future, and will certainly recommend these accommodations to friends and family. Thanks again, Mercedes & Kai

  • We really loved after many years of visiting lighthouses to be able to stay at one. We highly recommend the Keepers Room for the outstanding views from it and surroundings. Very clean and comfy. Calming and warm fireplace was very nice after a long day of coast exploring. A spectacular sunset was had. And saw a whale when we first got there. Added Bonus.

    Tracy2019-09-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and accommodations. Great view of the lighthouse through the Keeper’s Room door.

    Darren2019-09-05T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic night sky views! Locals gave us lots of recommendations for hiking nearby. We even saw leopard seals from the gazebo.

It has a queen size bed in the bedroom (downstairs) and one, exposed, twin mattress for an extra guest* in the loft upstairs. Soaring 18 foot butterfly walls, separated by an acre of redwood forest from nearest neighbors. It has a garden just outside. No cell phone reception but a landline provided for your use and VERY fast wifi . Filtered ocean view. At this spot, it is possibly 300 meters above and 3.5 kilometers away from the ocean with naked green hills and deep forests of redwood, Doug Fir and pine all around. At night there are no lights to be seen from the guest house, outside of its own small illumination. Tranquil and set in spectacular nature -- excellent for bird watchers and other wildlife enthusiasts looking for deer, wild rabbits, and other small, harmless, creatures. Point Arena is the second western-most spot in the continental U.S. and is one of six locations around the globe selected by NASA for clean air quality samples. In addition to the lighthouse museum (URL HIDDEN) our tiny city has an epicurean French Bakery noted by several national magazines, a coop market with locally produced, organic produce in summer, an excellent 3 star restaurant, bread clubs featuring organic artisan breads AND a first-rate cinema (URL HIDDEN) with a new (usually independent) film each week and live broadcasts from the Metropolitan Opera. The tiny city is located an hour south of the popular village of Mendocino -- another destination for spas and artisanal goods. Local sports include kayaking, hiking and biking along the coast, fishing, diving and and surfing off the pier. Inland, a 1.25 hour drive from our residence, is Mendocino's famous wine country (URL HIDDEN) which boasts the only still-free wine tastings in the Napa-Sonoma-Mendocino region.

A deluxe school bus located off Hwy 1, 1.5 miles from the Pacific Ocean, provide a secluded, sunny off-grid artistic getaway, with organic gardens, outdoor tubs & "malibu shower", plus fully equipped kitchen, wood-stove & on-demand hot water.
Converted into my home over a decade ago, this bus served as my home until I bought this property in 2006, and it has since been the deluxe guest bus. It is very comfortable and comes with all the luxury one would expect in a cabin -- hot water, full kitchen, refrigerator, and queen bed. It should be noted however, that the ceiling is only 6 foot high, and thus my not be suited to tall people! Also, there is a private toilet, but it is not inside the bus...instead it is a short jaunt from the front door. Also, I suggest bringing flip flops or some kind of easy on and off shoes, both for the bus and the bathroom jaunt. I request that the bus be kept as a "no shoes" environment, as I am discovering that the enviro oak flooring is quite sensitive to wear. Built mainly from recycled & resourced second hand materials, the bus is a 1985 Chevy with a Detroit Diesel engine. Her interior was designed with the "live lightly on the land" aesthetic and all appliances were chosen because they work well with solar power, including propane fridge and oven/stove and wood stove. The bus has an additional sleeping cubby that can sleep a youth and additional bedding is available -- however it is not "child-proofed" so kids must be at least six years old (but "pre-ambulatory" infants are fine too). Furthermore, I'm willing to consider small dogs (10lbs and under) upon request, but the bus will not accommodate medium and big-sized dogs. Dog owners must bring their own dog bedding and towels, and, in the winter or after the beach owners must be sure and dry off their doggies fur and paws. Also, no cats allowed -- as much as I love them, I am allergic.
I live in the sunny "banana belt" part of the coast. Often the fog is just down the road, but not here. The property has full southern exposure, which means it is light all day long. And of course, on moonless nights, the view of the milky way is spectacular! I am approximately 2 miles from bowling ball beach, which is an amazing, often photographed public accessible beach.
  • The bus is an inspiring work of art! And so comfortable and cozy...it is pleasure to read on the cozy couch by the wood burning stove and glance out of the school bus windows at the huckleberry blossoms and Redwood trees. Everything is thoughtfully provided and arranged...kindling, kettle and compost container...Blake is warm and welcoming. What she has created with this beautiful land has inspired us! An environment of deep care, humor, love, acceptance , color, off the grid resources, is good healing .

  • our 2nd time in the magic school bus, really an excellent place that we love to visit

    Laura2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • I had been itching to get out of the city for a while and this was the perfect weekend getaway. Did not arrive until late at night and Blake was out of town so def a little scary showing up at night but only because I’m scared of the dark and had no idea what our surroundings actually looked like until the morning and it was the most beautiful zen sanctuary! We spent two nights here and brought all our own food so never even left the bus all weekend. The area was perfect to spend the day and explore in. There’s a lot to do and see and you can even take a small hike which was very convenient! We didn’t shower once the entire time there, mainly just didn’t feel the need to but the shower looked great! The tubs were out of order but would’ve loved to use them and Blake tried her best to get in contact with her plumber which I really appreciated. There was one person living in another trailer on the other side and a few people driving in and out which is no big deal to us. Protips: bring coffee if you are a coffee fiend (no tea or coffee on bus) and def check your dogs for ticks. We brought our 9lb dog and luckily my husband grew up in the country because I had no idea what a tick even looked like and our dog was covered in ticks and we had to pick them all out before getting back on the bus. I downloaded a bunch of movies on my iPad for the trip but of course forgot it at home but it was fine without. My T-Mobile also worked. The cassette tapes and cds were fun but a lot of the cassette tapes didn’t work anymore :( Would def come back and already recommended to all my friends!

It was sparkling clean and cozy, the hot tub was great. Amber met me first thing when I arrived and was really nice, I would definitely recommend her place and I’ll probably go back there sometime soon.

Light and airy timber peg cottage with ocean views, easy access, private beach one minute drive away, centrally located between Gualala and Point Arena.
The cottage is cozy and will comfortably fit two people, though up to four is possible. The futon couch folds down to a bed, and the chair next to the futon also folds out flat to accommodate a single sleeper if necessary. Full service kitchen. Firewood provided for fireplace to make a winter evening even more cozy. Bathroom has a large walk in shower. Tons of light in every room! Because of light carpeting and other factors, pets are not permitted in the cottage.
Located on a small subdivision close to the ocean, on a dirt road but close to the entrance of it. Wonderful location for walks, beaches and relaxation!
  • Beautiful house and location. Perfect for a weekend getaway. The absolute only downside that you should note before booking is that the beach near-floods during high-tide, so there's not much sand left to actually spend a whole day there. I don't know how the tides vary over the year, but I'd imagine judging from the geography that there are times when the entire beach floods, so I would check that if the private beach is a main draw for your stay.

    Gabriel2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • What a great find! I loved the location views and space. Hayley has created a wonderful space to relax and enjoy the coast.

    Susan2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • I wish it were possible to give this place 12 stars. Except I’m a little wary of doing so because I don’t want this gem to get so popular that we can never go back. Hayley is a delightful host, and the location and space are perfect. So light, airy, & comfy. And the access to the beautiful nearby private beach is a great bonus. My partner and I agreed this is our best AirBnB ever!

  • Hayley's place was an absolute gem. This little cozy cottage is located right along the coast and we absolutely loved staying here. The private beach, location, fireplace, and the interior styling of the house were some of our absolute favorite things about staying at Hayley's place. Hayley was also quick to respond to any of our questions - she was a great host! Would wholeheartedly recommend this cottage to anyone who wants to have a peaceful getaway.

  • My husband and I stayed at the Zebra Cottage on November 28-30, 2019. It was a delight! We really appreciated all the African and safari-inspired decor, the stylish Art Deco vintage lighting and fixtures, the toasty warm wood stove, the incredibly comfortable bed, the robes, the hot tub which we made use of to watch the stars at night, and the great 1-hour educational tour we went on (guests who stay overnight get a nice discount too!). Dr Frank and Judy have created a peaceful, wonderful space where people young and old can learn from excellent guides about the magnificent animals they take care of, and get inspired to protect their natural habitats and the Earth as a whole. It was a real pleasure. Highly recommended! ~Sarah and Guido, San Francisco, CA

    Sarah2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Wow. I cannot say enough about Dr Frank and Judy's amazing space, preserve, everything. I stayed here for an anniversary and it was truly special, a highlight of the year.

    Chelsea2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • We definitely stayed in the best spot in Point Arena. The zebra cottage completely exceeded our expectations! We didn't know what to expect while staying at B Bryan Preserve, but we loved every second of it. All of the decor and touches were in theme and details like having robes for guests is so thoughtful. Waking up and being able to see giraffes while drinking coffee was such a cool experience. Our favorite part was sitting in our private hot tub, drinking wine and looking at up at the stars. Unfortunately timing didn't work out for us to do one of the tours, but Dr. Frank and Judy had a whole brochure of where to eat and things to do in and around Point Arena which was useful. It was such a relaxing stay and we'd recommend it to anyone.

Cypress Cottage overlooks Arena Cove and the Pacific beyond on the rugged Mendocino coast. It is surrounded by gardens and the former US Coast Guard Life-Saving Station. Cypress is cozy and inviting, nestled in a quiet hillside with circling birds and lapping waves. Price includes 12% occupancy tax.
Cypress has two levels. The upstairs contains the master bedroom with queen bed and a smaller bedroom with single bed. On the lower level is the ocean view living room, the kitchenette area, a bathroom with shower and an enormous whirlpool spa. A wood burning stove warms the living room while a toasty (and easy to use) gas fireplace heats the spa area.
A mile from the tiny town of Point Arena, adjacent to the California Coastal National Monument and the Stornetta Public Lands. A few miles from the Point Arena Lighthouse and the 7 mile long Manchester State Beach. Point Arena is home to the historic Arena Theater, a beautifully restored Art Deco building showing first run movies and hosting many live music events. Miles and miles of public coastal trails can be found all around us. Look at the hikes section on our Coast Guard House website for ideas.
  • Mia was great in responding to our very last minute trip booking. Checking in was super easy and clear. The cottage is on a beautiful property and stones throw away from the harbor area, which is fun to explore. PG&E cut the power on our second nights stay - Mia was very thoughtful in providing candles and a flashlight. Ended up going for dinner at the local Casino. Pro tip: Casinos almost always have backup generators :) Great local area with beautiful beaches and the Point Arena lighthouse is a fun tour.

  • I highly recommended Mia's place! She is such an amazing host and the Cypress Cottage was perfect. The property is breathtaking and I felt totally relaxed! I especially loved the ocean view from our bed and listening to the waves put me to sleep each night. It's within walking distance to the pier and wharf where you can get an excellent meal at the Chowder House or yummy pizza at the Pizzeria. There's a quaint coffee shop there too. Can't wait to return!

  • Loved staying at this tiny house for one night on a road trip! Was super comfortable and cozy. Note that the hot tub is out of order for the winter but that didn't stop us from having a great time! Would recommend to anyone looking to stay near Point Arena.

  • Amber was a great host - even with us coming in on short notice she had the Daffodil Bungalow all set up for our arrival. She also has a room adjoining the bathroom that was available and because there were no other guests she offered us a choice. We stayed in the tiny house bungalow- the mattress and linens were so comfy, coffee and condimentThe hot tub on the deck and fire pit area were great for relaxing and moon gazing.

  • Great little place. Would stay there again!

  • Cute tiny house perfect for solo travellers. Loft space for bedroom. Super clean and lovely linen and nice thoughtful touches. Bathroom is across the deck to the main house. Very central to Main Street.

  • Amber is a gracious hostess. I stayed in the tiny house. So cute. Private. Very solid secure ladder to the loft. Plenty of lighting for the night. One to two person hot tub was yummy and helped with relaxing.

  • Amber place was amazing. Her bungalow is perfect to rest and to know the beautiful coast of Mendocino. Full of cozy touches, we enjoy every second of our stayed there. The hot tube on the outside, local wine and Amazing pizza at the port, was some of the things we enjoy the most. Thanks Amber :) Amber's place was great. Your bungalow is perfect for resting and taking a breath while visiting the beautiful Mendocino coast. Full of cozy details we enjoy every moment of our stay. The jacuzzi at night, local wine and pizza at the port were some of the plans we enjoyed the most. Thanks Amber :)

Enoy the coastal setting right out the doors of the house. Lots of sun in the yard for lounging . Walk to movies, bakery, restaurants and coastal trails. Numerous day trip options along the stunning coast line. Enjoy the kitchen and prepare some tasty meals with local fare and pair with some wonderful craft wine and beers from Mendocino. Waves, Wineries, and Wilderness await your arrival in Point Arena.
  • Really great location, quiet & peaceful even though right there on highway 1. Very spacious. Bed was really comfy & bathrooms were excellent, with heated tiles & a great shower in the master. The kitchen was also very well done with plenty of pots n pans & a great stove, fridge & dishwasher. When we had a couple questions, Claire the caretaker was very attentive. Would totally love to go back.

Cozy house in quiet neighborhood. You'll forget you're in town when you see the view. Walking distance from Pt Arena's historic theater, world class bakery, Stornetta Lands hiking trails, Pt arena Lighthouse and Arena Cove. A short drive to restaurants and B Bryan Wildlife Preserve. The house has a large kitchen with a redwood bar for entertaining. Large deck with BBQ. Three bedroom ,two bath with a jacuzzi tub. Fenced in yard. Pt Arena is a unique small town that will steal your heart.
A short walk to town where you'll find a world class bakery, fresh coffee roasters, historic movie theater and much more. Walk the other direction and find yourself at the Pt Arena Lighthouse and miles of hiking and sight seeing on Stornetta Public Lands.
  • Bob and Lauras house is absolutely amazing. More amnesties than I would expect from an Air BnB especially in the kitchen! WiFi was great, which is a huge plus in a place where cell service is spotty. House is super pet friendly but as clean as if no pets had ever been there. We loved our stay so much and will definitely be back.

    Miranda2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Laura’s place was perfect for our family of 2 adults and 2 teens to get away and relax. The master bedroom is on the opposite site of the house from the other two bedrooms, so the kids being up late didn’t disturb us. Laura’s house is in a quiet neighborhood, a short walk into the town of Point Arena, and not far from the Stornetta Open Space and lighthouse. The house clean and well appointed with kitchenware, games, and plenty of cozy blankets.

  • Really cool place, great location, great amenities, very cozy, and great communication by the hosts. Would 10 out of 10 stay again

  • Gorgeous place in an extremely convenient location! Host was super helpful and answered our questions quickly. We had a great time staying here.

  • I loved staying at this beautiful home in Point Arena- I had booked it for my daughters 16th birthday with her friends and was the perfect size and lay out. The master bedroom and gorgeous master bathroom (with awesome Jacuzzi tub) were on one side of the house and the two other bedrooms and bathroom were on the other; providing the perfect amount of space, privacy and quiet. Laura and her husband were amazing hosts going above and beyond to make sure that our stay was comfortable and safe and happy. The house itself is perfectly situated at the north end of Point arena and you can want to the main street where there are lots of sweet cool shops and even a beautiful old movie theater. The Point Arena pier with tasty restaurants and beautiful views is a quick 5 minute drive from the house. My daughter, her friends and I loved staying here; the house has lovely views from the living room and master bedroom, the kitchen is very large and great to cook in and the surrounding neighborhood is peaceful and relaxed. Laura keeps her home super clean and welcoming and is an excellent communicator and very quick to respond to anything you might need. I will definitely be looking forward to staying here again. It’s a little bit of ocean paradise in our chaotic world, almost feels like you step back in time to a more simple, soulful and magical realm of the world.

  • Perfect spot for a big company traveling along the coast. Amazing hill view, spacious common area and kitchen, tidy bathrooms, more than enough linens, towels etc. The only downside is that we stayed only one night. Oh, and if you have pets - there's big fenced yard for them to roam) Definitely would stay again!

Command your view of ocean and tree tops – build some balance in your life. Whether an on-your-own adventure or reconnecting with loved ones, our small, architectural, two bedroom + loft house is located in an unusually secluded spot with an uninterrupted panorama. Number 3 on the New York Times list of "52 Places To Go" (2014), house looks over the dramatic five mile stretch of coastline featured in the Times article. Great spot to unwind, to write your book, paint your masterpiece.
The house and deck include a distant view of the Point Arena Lighthouse, circa 1868. Property is located on ten remote acres, three hours north of San Francisco, and set on a ridge top, down a dirt road. At this spot, it is approx. 300 meters above and 3.5 kilometers away from the ocean we look over, in front of which is a view of naked green hills with deep forests of redwoods, Doug Fir and Bull Pine. At night there are only a few lights to be seen in the dozens of square miles of landscape in view. This house is generally available for dates throughout the year. Please check our calendar for available dates and write to inquire. Guests can expect an architecturally re-imagined 1970's hippie house in the woods, with spectacular natural surrounds. The house (1400 + sf ) was remodeled fifteen years ago by a noted architect and has radiant-heat hardwood floors, a mix of Boston antiques, modern museum chairs and lighting, concrete counters and an extensive National Geographic and literary library. Two collections of short stories, a novel, and an autobiography have all been written in this house. Ideal setting for almost any creative project, including collaborations. We have an eat-in kitchen with a Swedish dishwasher and a concrete table on wheels. There is one common bath, a living room/library, pop-out dining room, an open loft used as the master bedroom, and two small downstairs bedrooms – the first with a king size waterbed and French doors opening onto a deck, under a massive bull pine. The second downstairs bedroom has an early American twin 4 post bed with tempurpedic mattress topper and a postmodern 10X12 "Blazona" shed just outside. The Blazona shed has a small office/ media center and, further off, a year-round creek cascading over 5 foot drops, reached by a moderate 45 minute RT hike through the woods. The property sits down a mile and a half of dirt road on a steep mountain side, which is accessible year-round. Point Arena is the second western-most spot in the continental U.S. and is one of six locations around the globe selected by NASA for uncontaminated air quality samples. In addition to the lighthouse museum (URL HIDDEN) our tiny city has a gourmet market, a pair of noted restaurants in the nearby surrounds, a restored vaudeville theater, now a cinema (URL HIDDEN) with a new (usually independent) film each week. Once a month, the venue hosts live theater. Point Arena also has a French bakery and is located an hour south of the village of Mendocino. Local sports include biking, kayaking and hiking along the coast, fishing, diving and surfing off the pier, and mountain biking right on our road. Inland, a 1.25 hour from our residence, is Mendocino's famous wine country which boasts the only still-free wine tastings in the region.
  • Randall and Carolyn have a gorgeous house with a gorgeous view. The pictures really don’t do it justice. Since it’s their family home, they have everything you need for cooking and baking and then some. The beds were extremely comfy and the heated bathroom floor was an extra treat. Randall gave great recommendations for a local hike and bakery. Very welcoming and helpful! Can’t wait for our next trip up!

  • Randall’s place was a wonderful weekend getaway! He was very communicative and helpful.

    Michael2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • Randall's home is the definition of tranquil. A stylish, clean, cozy space that generates creativity or time to connect with nature. Communication with Randall was clear and easy. We appreciated the thorough local recommendations as well. We really enjoyed our time and will definitely stay here again in the future. Thanks, Randall & Carolyn!

    Jenny2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I came here for the second time and it was just as lovely as the first. Randall is super friendly and communicative and provides a great amount of information about the area. The cottage was once again lovely and secluded with a beautiful view. Hopefully we'll be back for a third time!

    Lindsay2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful place! Much more than I expected. My friend & I had to make hasty arrangements as we had originally planned to stay in Nevada City. Our original lodging was cancelled due to the PG&E shutdowns, and we were forced to find another place quickly. This place seemed a little pricey for our budget, but there were few available options at such short notice. Randall was kind in availing himself to our stay with one day notice. We expected a nice place but were still a bit turned around from the previous cancellation and were happy just to find something that fit the bill! The place was beautiful, outstanding views, gorgeous sunrise and sunsets, and we discovered new bits of coastline that we’d nearer experienced before. Point Arena and surrounding towns, Gualala and Elk offered good eats, plenty of charm and amazing natural beauty. I’m happy for the detour and highly recommend this charming house.

    Kishi2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Randall's is a great host! He has great communication skills. It was nice of him to call us on the landline to make sure we arrived at his place safely. The house is in a secluded area in the woods with an amazing ocean view! The kitchen was well stocked with everything you would need to cook a complete meal. My favorite part of the house was the library! I'll definitely be looking into Randall's other Airb&b listings! Thank Randall!

    Roland2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • This house is an incredible experience. We experienced living deep in the woods, with a view of the setting sun in to the ocean that could never get old. The house itself is very tastefully done - we wish we could spend a month here. Great collection of books, very updated kitchen, a nice home pod, and great seclusion. This is our top AirBnB experience among about a dozen we have had thus far.

    Amit2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is the perfect space to recharge, relax and feel inspired. The space is beautifully decorated, with thoughtful touches sprinkled throughout every room. There’s a cozy deck and beautiful views from the top of a hill—perfect for watching sunsets amongst the trees. The hosts are very responsive and graciously shared all of their tips for sightseeing in the area and for making the most of a stay in their home (where to pick fresh fruit and flowers, detailed directions to and from the house, etc.). What a great place to stay!

Our two sleeping cabins and shared kitchenette are hand-built with simple amenities. All of the farm is off the grid with solar power. The cabins have outdoor composting toilets. An enclosed outdoor shower with hot water is located a short walk from the cabins, near the main house. The shared kitchenette is equipped with a cookstove and mini-refrigerator. (Please note: the kitchen cabin does not have heat and can be a bit chilly in the winter.) The sleeping cabins have woodstoves and firewood is provided. The red cabin is about 120 square feet with a single bed downstairs and a queen sized bed in the sleeping loft (please note: the loft is up a steep set of stairs).

Here are my personal recommendations: airbnb.com/rooms/3802865/guidebook This is some of the most pristine and beautiful coastline anywhere in the world. From Villa Ondina you will have access to nearby beaches (Bowling Ball Beach, Schooner Gulch Beach, our own private beach). From the seclusion and privacy of this retreat, you will enjoy a tapestry of wildlife: whales spouting and breaching as they make their annual migration just off the rocks, osprey soaring overhead with the morning catch tightly clutched in their talons, grey fox, coveys of quail, hawks, raccoons, eagles, and of course deer gently grazing on the meadows of the estate. The shoreline in front of Villa Ondina is protected as a California State Marine Preserve with countless tide pools, rich with sea life of all descriptions: seals lazing on the rocks, sea lions prowling for a meal, otters, star fish, anemones, and sea birds of all descriptions. Anchor Bay Beach (5 miles down the road) is a wide open sandy stretch at one end and a cozy cove with a waterfall at the other end. Ten minutes away, the town of Gualala offers great food shopping, restaurants and art galleries and the Gualala Bluff Trail with views of the Gualala River estuary, beach, sea life and sunsets. Hiking, beachcombing, and a seaside golf course. Gualala Point Regional Park has a trail system through open meadows and coastal forest, a Visitor's Center, coastal vistas and sandy beaches. Popular with day hikers, picnickers, kayakers, and canoers. Five minutes north, the town of Point Arena offers an amazing bakery, restaurants, a food co-op, access to the Point Arena -Stornetta Public Land National Monument, tours of the historic Point Arena Lighthouse, and a wildlife preserve. World class surfing is nearby and the area is a bikers paradise. Ocean and river kayaking available through local outfitters. Fishing for local King Salmon is available from several ports of call within easy driving distance. Or, take the beautiful drive to Mendocino Village (along the ocean’s edge) or the Anderson Valley wine country (through park like redwoods). Along the way, visit the quaint seaside villages of Elk, Albion, and Little River.

  • A beautiful place to stay in if you're wanting to stay around Gualala. The hot tub was great and the location is central to both Sea Ranch and Point Arena. A well-stocked kitchen to boot. We were stoked on the waffle maker and the popcorn maker!

  • Beautiful romantic property. The vegetable and spice garden is a real plus! What a luxury to be able to harvest homegrown vegetables right before consuming them! We visited end Feb, so not the best time of the year to take full advantage of the garden, but were nevertheless able to get our supply of fresh veggies! Thank you for this. Keep up the good work! Your vegetables and spice garden is a gem!

  • The absolute highlight is being able to relax in the upstairs living room and see the ocean right out the windows. Super beautiful place, we had a wonderful time.

    Caroline2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely stay! Perfect location to explore the scenic coast. Love that we could see the ocean from the living rooms and decks.

  • Great house for groups. Lovely view of the ocean from the deck. Lot of space for hanging out. Hot tub was great too.

  • I rented this house for a 30th birthday party with a large group of my friends. It was a perfect location! The common spaces in the house was very large with beautiful views of the ocean. The kitchen was also very well stocked! This place blew my expectations out of the water. It’s also very close to trails to walk to or along the water and it was nice for a group of that size for people to be able to do their own outdoor thing if they wanted to at different times. I highly recommend!

  • Zoe is an absolutely fantastic host!

    Alex2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Zoe’s wonderful home was a peaceful oasis away from our stressful city life. We highly recommend this getaway to those seeking some solitude and quiet.

    Susan2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Zoe's cabin made for a relaxing getaway. We enjoyed a lazy rainy day in keeping the fire going and watching movies on the DVD player. Firewood was well stocked. The cabin gets chilly in the winter and the fireplace doesn't really heat it up, so the heat dishes were useful. Lots of room outside for our dog to explore.

    Katherine2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • A cozy wood cabin 15 min drive to the beach. We came up as two couples for a few days and had a lovely time. Our favorite part was practicing our fire building skills in the wood stove and fireplace! Would definitely stay again.

    Jennie2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay was wonderful. It was extremely peaceful and very cozy, not tiny but spacious and extremely comfortable! We arrived to a warm and welcoming cabin where our host, Zoe, left us a wonderful bottle of wine and a basket full of fruit. The fire in the old fashioned stove was going strong and the wood in the stone fireplace was ready for us to light. Even the hot tub was ready; all we had to do was kick back and relax. Sooo happy that we had the opportunity to spend a few nights in Zoe’s peaceful cabin❣️

    Irene2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful quiet cabin. This was exactly what my husband and I needed. The cabin is very cozy and clean. The hot tub was very relaxing after hiking with our dogs. The view was beautiful. Definitely looking forward to coming here again.

    Nicole2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Great cabin. Exceeded our expectations!

    Adam2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Zoe’s beautiful little cabin is a slice of California Coast heaven. With a view of the ocean from the porch to watch sunsets from (at least in late October) surrounded by Redwoods - the price can’t be beat. The cabin had every amenity needed to cook and enjoy here. The hot tub was a nice way to relax after a full day of beach combing and hiking. There are many beautiful touches in this home, art and flowers, that were so appreciated. I would definitely stay again here!

  • The yurt was such an awesome experience! Easy to find, beautiful surroundings, and private. The wood stove was a great feature and kept the whole place super warm in the evenings. Zoe was super responsive and thorough with instructions and provided some great recommendations for the local area.

    Steven2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Zoe’s yurt was perfect! One of the most relaxing, peaceful, enjoyable vacations we’ve had. The yurt is in a beautiful, serene location and stocked with everything we needed for a great stay. We definitely plan to return!

    Linda2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • We traveled with our two small children and there was plenty of space to run around to play inside and outside. The yurt was very spacious and cozy. Zoe was communicative and quickly responded / handled any issues we had. It was quite cold but there was plenty of firewood, tons of blankets and comforters to make it a comfortable stay. It was tranquil and exactly the kind of getaway we wanted. Would highly recommend and come back again.

    Seiko2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Zoe's yurt on the Lazy 'S Ranch is the perfect place to plan a lazy yet refreshing vacation away from the hustle bustle of day to day life. The yurt is in the mountains, nestled in a redwood grove, very close to the town of Gualala. The yurt is fully equipped with all the fancy amenities. We loved working the fire in the fireplace everyday. Zoe has a stockpile of firewood in the shed - so no worries of running out. The skylight in the yurt is amazing - plenty of daylight during the day and a portal to do stargazing at night! The music collection is fantastic and the TV has netflix! It's also very conveniently close to many outdoorsy activities - point arena light house, plenty of hiking along the ocean front, train rides, tidepools, chapels, etc.

    Subhamoy2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time in Zoe’s yurt! It was so magical to be right under the big trees and hear the forrest. On one of our days, a big storm came through so we stayed in, built a fire and watched movies all afternoon snuggled up on the couch with our toddler. It was the best! So many of our friends are already asking us about the place after seeing our pictures on Instagram! Thank you for such a cozy and memorable stay!

    Petya2019-11-28T00:00:00Z
  • Had a wonderful stay! Would definitely come back just to enjoy the night sky.

    Taylor2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place is amazing for the price. The Yurt is incredibly clean and pleasant and is connected to a small building in the back that houses the bathroom/bedroom/laundry room, such that the whole Yurt is available for just hanging out. The stove is awesome and she provided ample newspaper/kindling/firewood for keeping the Yurt nice and cozy/toasty. Zoe’s communication was prompt and helpful and I felt she was always available, which was very reassuring Lots of nice small touches and helpful items, like coffee filters, flowers, paper towels, lots of dish towels, easily accessible extra firewood, and even fresh apples and lemons. Very very private and very very quiet, without being dingy or creepy or feeling too remote or hard to access. The perfect balance if you’re looking to get away. We’re coming back !!!

    Aaron2019-10-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had an amazing time at the yurt with our 2 dogs on our anniversary trip and would definitely stay here again!!! The deck is fully enclosed which was great for our dogs. The kitchen was fully stocked to cook all our meals in. And the location was amazing, nestled in the redwoods trees, but still close to the coast. We definitely want to come back!

Our home in Gualala is perched right on Iversen Point facing the ocean--a 1/2 acre ocean front property perfect for enjoying the beautiful views, our waterfall and stream, being outdoors, or hitting the beach via the private access.
Our home is over 1,600 square feet of ocean front property situated on over 1/2 acre in a quiet and private cul-de-sac on Iversen Point in Gualala. Sheltered from the wind, our home faces south and boasts views of Island Cove and beyond. And the best part is that you will have private access to the beach at Island Cove. The house itself has 2 bedrooms and one den/3rd bedroom (with a full size futon) and 1.5 baths. One of the bedrooms is up a small flight of stairs and has a king sized bed and large windows facing the ocean. The second bedroom has a queen bed and an en suite 1/2 bath. You will enjoy views of the ocean from the den/3rd bedroom, living room, dining room and the fully-equipped kitchen. You can also lounge outside on the sun-deck, enjoy a BBQ, or take a dip in the jacuzzi. All in all, its a perfect and peaceful retreat. We are pet friendly (we may assess a small pet fee), but ask that you let us know ahead of time (failure to do so may result in loss of some of the security deposit). Please also let us know the total number of guests in your party, including children/babies.
Our home is located right in between Gualala and Point Arena, just a few miles north of Anchor Bay. We are about a ten minute drive from both Gualala and Anchor Bay. There are many beaches and trails to explore, particularly Island Cove to which you will have private access.
  • Joanna was a wonderful host. She was quick to respond to our questions. The house has incredible light and views. The accommodations are comfortable and welcoming. I appreciated the information about the area that was provided. The one thing I didn't realize is the house is between Gaulala and Point Arena which made the location even better for us. We could enjoy both areas as we wanted.

    Christa2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The view at Joanna's place alone is worth every penny! The beds are incredibly comfortable, and nothing beats having a glass of wine on the deck while watching the sun set over the ocean. Having access to the private beach so close by was wonderful for my dogs, & my husband & I had a blast exploring the tide pools. I've never seen so many starfish! Surf market is excellent for fresh fish & is reasonably close by. The even closer market at anchor bay also has pretty much whatever you need. The host informed us ahead of time of the tick issue certain times of the year, but we weren't too worried about it because our dogs are on preventative. If your dog isn't, I would highly suggest putting them on one before you make the trip. We never found any ticks on us, but we definitely found them on the dogs after they were in the backyard. I can't recommend this place highly enough! Joanne is a fabulous host and this home is even more incredible in person than it is in the pictures.

    Mateo2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • The views were spectacular from all areas of the home. We arrived to a clean and well-stocked home. The private beach was easy to get to and gorgeous! We were even able to see seal pups on the beach, which was so neat! Hosts provided great directions and were prompt communicators. Recommend this place if you are looking for a laid back atmosphere with quick ocean access and breathtaking views.

    Tanya Sanchez2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place with a spectacular view. It was great to sit in the hot tub and be able to watch the crashing waves below.

    Peter2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great house on a beautiful part of the Mando coast. The views are breathtaking. The private beach is incredible. Communication with host was A+. Highly recommended.

    Oliver2019-12-21T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home, can’t escape the incredible view! Can’t wait to come back.

    Suzy2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Immense location-- both in terms of the beauty of the immediate environs and views, but also in terms of the points of interest in the surrounding area. We had such a wonderful family weekend, from enjoying sunrise and sunset from the hot tub, discoveries on the nearby beach, walks along the bluffs, visiting Point Arena lighthouse, and so much more. A fabulous getaway, a gorgeous and comfortable home, and a wonderful host!

  • Great place in an awesome location. The apartment is very clean and airy. Has a lot of amenities. The only thing is that the bedroom wall is a bit thin so not very soundproof. It gets a bit annoying if you have noisy neighbors. Mina, the lighthouse cat, is very friendly and we loved her visits.

  • Stunning location

    Graham2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderfully quiet and serene, with incredible views! The apt was perfect for the two of us, with a kitchen where we could cook breakfast and enjoy the dinner we assembled from the Co-op market in town. The bed is wonderfully comfortable. There is plenty of room to spread out, with comfortable chairs and couch. It is just as the photos portray. The room rentals go to support the Point Arena Lighthouse Keepers, Inc - a great cause!

  • We had an amazing weekend and felt so happy and at home. The tree house, hot tub, and trails were wonderful! I really hope that we get to return someday. Deb was amazingly warm and helpful! Tree house and hot tub..... really- what more to want??

    Elizabeth2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • A group of friends and I stayed here for late December birthdays and New Year's celebrations, and we all had a truly wonderful time! The space is so special, and offers a wide variety of experiences. Some folks were able to be a bit more active and explore while others were able to relax in the cabin. It was a great mix of lounging and activity. Deb communicated all the details about the space very effectively -- particularly the wood burning hot tub which no one in our group had seen before, but we were able to get it up and running with instruction. Overall it's a pretty magical place and we'd love to go back.

    Shelby2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful property. We rented the one bedroom cabin which has a sleeping loft and added the treehouse and trailer, for additional private sleeping space. We had a misunderstanding about the layout as a previous reviewer mentioned, but Deb was very accommodating and we got it sorted out. Great space to come with family and spread out. The meadow is perfect for turning kids loose and keeping an eye on them. The hot tub is a job but definitely worth it. Nice outdoor shower. Lots of local things to do and see. The check out process is a bit more involved than your average (bringing garbage to the road and starting two loads of laundry) so something to keep in mind again if you’re traveling with kids and have to get going. Awesome place. Highly recommend!

    Amber2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Perfect magical hideaway in Point Arena.

    Lark2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • This place exceeded all our expectations! The photos do not do it justice. The location is magical and the house and it’s amenities just perfect. We enjoyed hiking, using the hot tub, staying by the fire outside and watching the stars surrounded by the redwood forest.

    Niloufar2019-11-25T00:00:00Z
  • This charming gem is quaint and artsy. There has very interesting art all over the property. A truly unique experience with tons of privacy. Great for a group of families because of the 3 dwellings. Theres a bit to do when you get there in order to make the best use of the hot tub and such so if you can arrive in daylight and take care of that its well worth it! Deb is very sweet and the instructions are very clear on everything.

    Linda2019-11-18T00:00:00Z
  • \We were completely in awe and blown away by the space. We loved it so much, and hope to do all of our future writing retreats at Camp Huckleberry. The love that went into building this home away from home is so evident, and it brought us so much joy to convene there. We are so grateful that Deb and her family shared this space with us. It was amazing and so much more than we could've hoped for.

    Alicia2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous property! Strongly recommend especially for larger groups. It takes a bit of technical ability to get the water heaters going but this will be simple for most folks. Everything you could need is there (except major food, of course), spreading out is easy, the trees are luscious and the town is nearby. Enjoy!

  • Such a unique & unforgettable experience for someone who has always wanted to stay near a lighthouse. The whales, seals, & sea lions were all an added bonus!

  • We stayed here over the weekend to celebrate our 2nd anniversary and had a fabulous time. The unit was warm (a cosy fireplace with all supplies), cozy, and had an old world charm about it. We could see waves crashing on the rocks through the kitchen windows and the whole view was surreal. The ocean was a gorgeous blue, skies were bright and sunny and there was greenery all around. The current manager was a charming gentlemen who gave us a lot of information about the history of the lighthouse. We also spotted migrating Whales which was awesome!! Not to forget Arena Mina who made our stay even more special by her warm and furry presence.

  • Beautifully decorated, *amazing* location, incredibly gracious and attentive hosts. The lighthouse cat is adorable and even escorted us on a walk of the property (no joke). Kids loved exploring the lighthouse and grounds then coming home to dinner, a fire in the woodburning stove, watching the sunset and listening to the sounds of the ocean. Truly a magical place with beauty and privacy. Thank you Mark, Arena Mina and crew for a fabulous stay - we look forward to visiting again.

  • Great place to stay. Very unique location with ocean views on both sides of the apartment, and lots of privacy once the lighthouse closes. Might be a little gloomy if it’s foggy, but we had beautiful weather.

  • This is a beautiful place to stay and not just because of the lighthouse. The house itself is modern, cute, and stylish. The kitchen is amazing and I the whole place was super clean. If you love lighthouses, or even if you don’t, I would highly recommend staying here!

  • Amazing location with stunning views. Convenient to fantastic hiking trails and restaurants.

  • Our family weekend was so memorable. The expansive grounds to explore at will. Watching the Lighthouse at night was mesmerizing. The fire wood provided was a very nice touch and made our evenings cozy. The wine gave us a way to give a toast to the occasion in the evening. And the WiFi kept the grandkids connected when they weren’t outside looking for whales passing by or exploring the lighthouse and grounds. The heaters in every room were awesome! And Coffee provided a warm greeting to the sunrise. Very well appointed kitchen that lacked nothing. Beautiful location and top notch accommodations.

  • Very unique experience to stay at the lighthouse compound. The views and grounds are amazing. After day time visitors are gone you have the whole area to yourself plus only a few other folks staying the night. The houses are old but well kept and have everything you need. They allow pets which is great. We will definitely come back

    Jayesh2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing location, I mean you couldn’t ask for a more inspiring place. Great views, great sounds and the epitome of serenity. I hope we get the opportunity to go there again. The units are a bit on the older side, but everything else more than makes up for it.
