  • This is simply the best secret on the island. It’s a magical, romantic fusion of indoor and outdoor space where jungle sounds and ocean waves give you space to contemplate life over champagne under the bamboo covered porch. It has bonus kitties, and little surprises everywhere. You’re lucky if you can find an open week here. They seriously don’t charge enough.

  • Charming cottage that is in a great location with just a short walk to Manini beach! My wife and I enjoyed our stay. Ron and Karen are very careful to respect your privacy, but are around if you have questions or want a brief chat. They have many very good recommendations for things to do on the island that helped to make our stay special. There are numerous details in this cottage that have history and meaning. Ask Ron about some of the components, they come with a good story!

  • The cottage is so cute and charming to stay in. Karen and her husband were amazing hosts. As we got in, Karen showed us around to the beach and gave us insights of the area. Snorkeling at the beach was amazing. Lots of bright-colored fish by the reef. We had a very relaxing stay and enjoyed the decor of the cottage.

    Samantha2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, great cottage, great hosts. A real gem. Ideal for snorkelling, kayaking, enjoying the sea shore and beautiful sunsets. Encounter with dolphins almost guaranteed.

    Felix2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • The Bali Cottage is a rustic, comfy space and hosts Karen and Ron are exceptional. They will bend over backwards to make sure guests are comfortable; the location is awesome, shady, and a 5 minute walk to Manini Beach. Everything you need is available in the cottage: coolers, beach towels, boogie boards, and toiletries just in case you forget yours! Go to sleep with the gentle sound of the surf... and wake up with the sun shining in your outdoor shower!

    Robin2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Stay here! It’s definitely more of a “glamping” vibe but so amazing! We loved waking up to the sounds of the ocean and wildlife. Very friendly hosts! The snorkel gear was awesome to have when we hiked to Captain Cook!

    Amanda2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • One of the most unique and memorable places I’ve ever stayed. Karen and Ron were very friendly hosts, who made sure we felt right at home.

    Bob2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • There are not enough words to say how wonderful the Bali Cottage and Karen are. The space is AMAZING, the only negative thing I can think of is now all other Airbnb’s or even hotels or even my own home will all fall short of the magic that is the Bali Cottage. Karen is super communicative and welcoming and even walked me down to the beach when I got there, which btw is also amazing and charming. Literally could write a book on how much I loved my stay. Thank you again Karen for sharing your space with the world!

  • You cannot find a better stay with incredible host and incredible views! This part of our 2 week trip was the best! We had outstanding sunset views every night to where anywhere else you would pay heavy. This condo is perfectly described, it's cute and comfortable like home away from home with access to everything Kona. The beach is your backyard! Alice and Jerry could not be nicer and were such gracious host. During some crazy times of travel and many questions I had they were quick to always respond and helped me time after time to make sure my family and I were taken care of weren't without a place to stay while we waited for ever changing flight updates. Alice was ready to even bring any extra supplies we needed before we left. The condo was exactly like mentioned and matched the photos. We loved waking up and seeing dolphins and the amazing fish. Perfectly spaced for myself husband and 17year old daughter. We had everything in the condo from essentials to beach fun items so we were covered fully. I can't wait to start planning a return Hawaii trip and I can 100% say we will be reaching out to Alice and Jerry again for a second stay! No other rental place or owner will show you such care and thoughtfulness and take care of your condo needs then from Alice and Jerry's place.

    Kristin2020-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • It would be easier to say what I didn’t love about this place, which is nothing! It was truly amazing. The photos do not do the view justice. The beach is truly right downstairs with an amazing restaurant in the condo building right on the beach! The condo had everything we needed for a great stay. Lots of dishes and cookware and even beach supplies! The beach chairs were an amazing touch. Jerry and Alice were very responsive and always a joy to speak with. Their guest book had fantastic recommendations, we tried several including Magic Sands Beach Grill (numerous times if I’m being honest) and Jackie Reys (I think that is the name). Both were amazing.

    Taylor2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • The location was amazing. We woke to the sound of the waves every morning and watched the stars every night.

    Lilly2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • Such a wonderful guest experience at Jerry and Alice's Kona Magic Sands place...we did not want our stay to end! Everything you need for a wonderful vacation is included - from a comfortable bed, all kitchen utensils and appliances, very nice linens and towels and anything you would need for a day at the beach. It is hard to describe the views and sounds of the ocean...there were days we just opened the lanai and spent most of the day enjoying the scenery (and serenity). And after a day of touring, it was so nice to come back and just enjoy the ocean, pool and making dinner in their well-equipped kitchen. We would actually look forward to returning each afternoon/evening to enjoy their place and the atmosphere. Jerry and Alice are such sincere and caring hosts... they truly want guests to enjoy their experience. There were tropical fresh flowers waiting for us as well as bananas from their own tree! We were sad when our stay ended and hope to be guests again! A wonderful, fabulous experience! Mahalo Jerry and Alice for sharing your paradise with us!

    Shannon2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing views and place. We saw whales, dolphins, fish, and turtles all from our condo! Jerry and Alice were some of the nicest people Ive ever met, very accomodating and definitely went above and beyond. We are definitely hoping to come back and stay here again.

    Kelsey2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • It was very relaxing to hear the constant splashing of the waves, which sent us to sleep immediately! The Magic Sands restaurant was excellent, convenient and fun. Great to have an allocated parking space.

    Sharon2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Jerry & Alice are the kind of hosts that you remember for years, their kindness and warm communication, they feel like friends rather than hosts. We will never forget the roar of the waves, the breath taking sunsets and the whales and dolphins daily transiting out front. 🐳🌊 🌅

    Darrell2020-01-31T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful stay at Jerry and Alice's condo. The views were magnificent - a perfect place to take in an ocean sunset. Was nice to be able to lie in bed and hear the sound of the waves. The location was great too, right next to a nice beach and an easy drive to any other Kona destination. Jerry and Alice were great hosts and provided all the info we needed for our trip along with plenty of suggestions for places to eat and things to do. We would love to stay at their place again.

Aloha and Mahalo for visiting my listing. DUE TO THE PANDEMIC I DON'T ACCEPT ANY RESERVATION UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE! "Pl.note that I don't have included the Transient /Ge tax ( 14.50%) in my price since it would reflect in the fee you pay to airbnb. I will collect it upon arrival." This place is nesteld on the slope of Hualalei mountain inmidst of coffee farms, from this cooler elevation (1200ft.) it is only 15 min./7 miles to Kailua -Kona, the nearest Beaches and Supermarket.
This downstair apartment is fully private with private entrance, bedroom has a queen bed, bathroom with bathtub/shower, walk-in closet. Lanai ( Porch) with view. Kitchenette has a fridge, microwave, toaster oven, electric skillet and electric pot, toaster, coffee maker, electric water kettle, rice cocker and a blender. Linen, towels and beach towels are provided. Free wireless internet, use of BBQ, car port. At 1200 elevation it is nice to come home from a day of activities at the beach to a cooler climate and quiet neighborhood to relax and watch the sunset from the lanai with view.
It is located in the midst of the famous Kona Coffee region, just 1 min. north from old charming Holualoa town with many Art Gallerys, a grocerie store, post office, coffee shop, and a wonderful outdoor restaurante (slow food). In just 12 min. ( or 7miles) you are in Kailua Kona town or at the nearest beaches.
  • The apartment is perfect! It is very well equipped, clean and offers a very nice view to watch sunsets. We enjoyed the stay very much and can just recommend it!

    Melina2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • A quiet space a little away from Holualoa Town, a large site with lots of fruit trees and trees. There is a two-story house in that space. The second floor is the host house and the first floor is the guest house. There are many similar homes around the property, in a quiet, relaxed and lovely area away from the hustle and bustle. Located at the foot of Mount Faralai and away from the sea, it is not too hot and cool. It's a bit cool in the morning and evening, so it's a good idea to have long sleeves. Rooms are clean and well cleaned. Cooking utensils are available, and there are rice cookers, microwave ovens, ovens, electric pots, hot plates, toasters, coffee makers, etc., so you can cook yourself without any problems. Since there is also a coffee mill, you can grind the purchased Kona coffee beans and drink it immediately. There is also a cartridge type water purifier, so there is no need to buy water. In addition, there are a lot of beach gear, and beach chairs, umbrellas, cooler boxes, snorkels, cool bottles, etc. were handy. The view from Lanai is a lot of trees underneath, the town of Kailua-Kona and the vast sea far away. Every day I spent watching beautiful sunsets. The lanai is large, so you can eat at the table or relax on the sofa. Rent-a-car is essential, but it is about 15 to 20 minutes drive to Kailua Kona, Keauhou shopping center and beach. Every day I went to KTA, Safeway, Target, Walmart and Kahaluu Beach. Check-in and check-out were easy, and the host lived on the second floor, so there was no need to receive or hand over the keys, just putting the keys on the table. The host woman is very kind and will answer me politely if I have anything, and I'm on the second floor so I can go to listen immediately. It keeps your private well, so you will rarely meet and help you only when you need it. I think it is the best location to spend your time on the Big Island slowly and comfortably, but I think it is a good distance for those who are actively moving to Hilo, Volcano, Mauna Kea, North Kona and many beaches, I went many times during my stay. Especially in the middle of the Kona coffee cultivation area, you can easily go around the coffee plantation everywhere. I stayed for about 3 weeks, but anyway, I found the location, environment, room and host to be satisfactory.

  • Karoline and her dog Hano are lovely hosts and her place was just perfect for our stay on the big island! Karoline has a beautiful house and guest apartment. Everything was sparkling clean and decorated in a cozy hawaiian style. We cooked a lot and were genuinely surprised by how good the kitchen devices (mixer, pans etc.) are! The whole apartment is very well thought through and Karoline goes above and beyond to ensure that her guests enjoy their stay. She even provided us with fresh fruits from her own garden! She also makes her own soapes and pays special attention to the environment and holding a sustainable houshold. Hano is the cutest, a very friendly, goofy and even a little shy doggo that one cannot help but love. We also loved the view from the apartment. One can see the ocean and watch the most amazing sunsets whilest sipping on a cold Big Wave or Longboard. So, if you get the chance stay here and enjoy this beautiful island from the very best airbnb.

  • Spectacularly natural, lush surroundings.. beautiful garden, flowers fruit and coffee. A delightful place to stay where everything is thoughtfully provided for you.

    Mark2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Karoline’s place was warm and cozy as described. It has a neat view of the ocean, and the property itself is surrounded by lush trees. The house was stocked with amazing coffee beans, which my husband really enjoyed having. Karoline’s dog, Hano, was a cool hang out in the mornings. The place is conveniently located to Kona and other beaches (about 15-20mins drive). Highly recommend it.

    Rasika2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Karolines house is very charming and well kept in every detail, and with a beautiful view over the garden and to the ocean. Peaceful area and close to a nice little village.

    Grete2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • If you are going to the big island, want a spectacular view, comfortable stay, and a wonderful host than we recommend this cozy magnificent spot overlooking Kona. We will never forget our trip and appreciated every second of our time here. Thank you Karoline 🌺

Located in South Kona, this Kona Paradise home is a wonderful place to come relax, cook a nice meal and watch the sunset on our enclosed covered lanai. Enjoy our very peaceful 2 bd/2ba home. Pebble Beach is just a short drive down the hill ( 4 mns. with steep but secured central Kaohe Rd.)where one can swim and snorkel as well as hike the King's Trail along the coast. ( large parking at the End of Mapuna Rd- last lateral Rd. at the bottom) Hookena Beach is just 5 miles North and is often the location where the dolphins come to play. We are about a 20minutes drive through beautiful coffee farm lands, direction to the town of Kailua-Kona. Volcanoes National Park and Green Sand Beach is about an 1 hr to 1.5 hours South. TV: Smart Flat screen TV (,Flicks,Hulu,Vaduz,YouTube,Netflix..) Private Bathroom and King size bed in Master bedroom with views of the ocean from the lanai. Also King size bed in second bedroom. Kitchen is well equipped.
Kona Paradise is a very safe and clean neighborhood. Access to Pebble beach at bottom of hill is one of my favorite beaches. Parking : do take the last lateral Mapuna Rd.on your left. Sometimes ( only sometimes) it is a bit rough and the current is to strong to swim in , but one can always stay at the shore and let the waves roll you around on the pebbles. Very special and fun! Also some nice hiking along the coast line to the left and to a black sand beach,to the right. Some attractive wild goats around, inoffensive wild pigs and their little ones, cut and funny small green geckos.Best Sunsets and ( or) Stars from the beach. Magic Time ! Kaohe, the central rd. of Kona Paradise ,from Hwy. to the shore( Pebble Beach) is pretty steep ,but fully secured.
  • This is a peaceful house with gorgeous views and a beach right down the road. A very special place, will be visiting again mahalo.

    Melodie2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Quiet, serene home located away from the hustle and bustle of Kailua-Kona. If you’re looking to escape the rush and be closer to nature, this place is for you.

    Timothy2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had an amazing stay here for our honeymoon. The property felt safe and the views were spectacular! We were able to easily do laundry downstairs and borrow some beach chairs and an umbrella for a day at the beach. Check-in and check-out were easy, no issues. Definitely recommend if you want to enjoy the Captain Cook area! Pebble beach is nearby and definitely better to get to by car - we made the mistake of walking and boy, it was a difficult climb back up!

    Caroline2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great atmosphere and location. House is cozy, kitchen is nice, everything is peaceful and relaxing. Had all the swimming/beach stuff we needed and our two year old felt at home. Beautiful flowers and grennery and the sunset views were amazing. Highly recommend this place, and Guy was very helpful with tips on where to go and what to do. We would go back for sure.

    Jaryd2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • What's not to like? I would give this peaceful home-on-the-hill a 6-star rating. Is it for you? Expect nights that are inky black with a heavenly star show. Expect utter quiet except for bird calls, the rustle of breezes, and occasional raindrops hitting the roof. And expect about a dozen friendly geckos who are amazing acrobats. You will find plenty of hot and cold water, lots of towels, a top-notch washer and dryer (but I used the clothes line), and a well-equipped kitchen. Comfortable beds, too. Porches are screened and windows open on all sides to catch the breezes. Oh, one more thing: The Hill. Think San Francisco. Nestled at the end of one of the cross-streets, this home is perched about 2/3 of the way up a hill. Drive down to the bottom to find a black pebble beach and the King's trail. Great to hike in both directions but bring good boots. Up top is Highway 11, zero road noise, and the highway will take you to markets, parks, and other beaches (20-30 min drive). Guy, Delphine's dad, did a wonderful job hosting, start-to-finish. He's knowledgeable about the area. And in case you are bilingual, il parle francais. Merci beaucoup! A lovely 9-day stay and wish it had been longer. 6 Stars!

  • The Kona Oasis is amazing! Cute space with 1 bed and a bathroom, outdoor kitchen and dining space surrounded by adorable geckos. You will spend the whole trip outside, or inside with your windows open. Walking distance from everything in Kailua Kona - including beaches, restaurants, shopping. Marc is a awesome, hospitable, and super nice. He has tons of local knowledge and made great recommendations.

    Jordan2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Marc’s place has great values for it’s price. The room is clean and comfortable with all necessities equipped. What satisfies me most is its private bathroom. It’s super convenient you don’t share bathroom with others. Moreover, you can walk to the supermarket and restaurant. Anyway, I recommend Marc’s place if you’re looking for the budget accommodation in Kona.

  • Gorgeous house with an ocean view which I’ll recommend to anyone who asks where to stay at the big island.

    Ilana2020-03-12T00:00:00Z
  • The beauty of the room and the entire estate is just like other evaluations. It is very beautiful and unimaginable. I hope that I can have such a home in the urban jungle. I think the owner is a very easy-going lady who is very considerate, but unfortunately my English is so bad that I ca n’t talk too much with her. I have to mention her baking skills here, and I will definitely not lose the other chef masters. Every morning, I eat the owner's cakes, cookies, and coffee, and with the excellent manor landscape, it really makes people reluctant to leave! !! !! Unfortunately, we were too focused on other attractions in those days. Quietly lying on the couch in the manor, listening to the songbirds and watching the sunset, maybe it will make people who come on vacation more relaxed. By the way, I would like to especially thank the roosters in the manor, and thank them for waking me up on time one hour or two hours before the alarm clock, and never let me oversleep. I think if there is grilled chicken, then there will be more than 5 stars Haha

  • I booked a room w/ a shared bath at Rhonda's place, and it was the perfect place to relax and get good sleep in the first days of my vacation. Besides the many amenities like a pool and beach gear, I appreciated the level of cleanliness and fresh towels. Rhonda also offered a guidebook library for guests, as well as daily treats. It was very easy to find, and a very comfortable place to stay on the Big Island.

    Christine2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Great location in Captain Cook. The pool was perfectly warm so I was able to swim even in the rain. There are a lot of upfront rules which was intimidating but they are really easy to follow if you are courteous and considerate. Would stay again!

    Mary Alaina2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Rhonda is the best there is for a bnb. Warm, informative, comfortable. unlike some Airbnb listings, her space is NOT oversold. You relax the moment you get there. This is my second time staying with her a year apart and it is just as good. My only regret is not staying longer!

  • Rhonda's place is a little paradise in paradise (Captain Cook's bay is amazing). We especially appreciated Rhonda's hospitality, the comfort of her house, the view and the pool! We would definitively love to come back if we ever go back to Big Island again.

    Nancy2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Great place. Rhonda is a great hostess. Like she mentions it’s close to the main road so you will hear cars and she’s in the country so there will be roosters.

  • Location is great for coffee tastings...there are tons of awesome (many are free) coffee tours within a couple miles of her home. Her home has a beautiful ocean view seen by the huge window in the living room!

  • This airbnb is absolutely the best airbnb in the Big Island, The over view of the whole Kona and beach from this house will over your imagination. The host has given me many useful informations which helped me spend a better vacation on Big Island.

  • We loved the fantastic view and the "outdoor living" at Steve's place! So much that it made it hard to leave there to do our planned vacation activities. The unit was very clean, comfortable and had plenty of storage. Communication with Steve was quick and easy. Highly recommend this Airbnb!

    Betty2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The location of this home is amazing! It is off the main road, and it is so quiet and peaceful up here. The hosts have some stuff available to use (snorkel, beach chairs, etc), which we were very thankful for. Unit is super clean, and I loved the giant shower. The view is the best- it was wonderful to wake up to it in the mornings. I loved it!

    Lisa2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Steve was a wonderful host and we enjoyed our stay very much. Very peaceful setting and gorgeous views.

  • I cannot rave enough about this place. It’s amazing and the views are unbelievable. You’re gonna want to stop to the grocery store on your way up, because once you’re here you won’t want to leave. Sleeping with a fan and the screen door open was just unbelievable. Perfect temperature. And breathtaking views.

Nature Lovers! Wake up eye-level with the canopy in a lofted bedroom with floor-to-ceiling windows and bohemian furnishings. Nestled among mango trees and rich with daylight, this tropical hideaway offers an unmatched open-air environment with eclectic adornment. Take a 30-foot stroll down a secluded path to your open-air bath house surrounded by plumerias and lush foliage. Enjoy an immersive experience with nature (birds, bees, insects, geckos and whatever nature has in mind). Glamping +++ in the Heart of Kealakekua Bay, featuring the best snorkeling on the Island and wild dolphins.
This eco-hale was built to express the simple beauty of outdoor-inspired living in Hawaii. The climate is comfortable year-round, as we are at 400 ft above sea level. Built in an open-air style with native Ohia posts, you will feel the expansiveness of being in nature, combined with the comforts of home. The open-air spaces have ceiling fans and the 2 bedrooms are totally screened in and give one a "tree house" feel. The hale is decorated in a Bohemian, Balinese influenced style... with natural materials. The hale has a bath house that is 30 feet away on a private footpath featuring an outside shower surrounded by a grove of plumerias, ginger, bananas, ti and other tropical foliage. The Master Bedroom is on the second floor and feels like you're living in the "Golden Glow" Mango trees. It has a King Bed, a Balinese writer's desk, dresser and plenty of room to stretch or do a yoga practiced. One "wall" is floor-to-ceiling screened in window which gives guests an expansive feeling, united with the beauty of Nature. The room is decorated in a modern, bohemian style ~ tasteful, relaxed and comfortable. All bedding is 100% cotton and crisp white. The entire master suite is screened in. The downstairs bedroom is completely screened in and has a queen bed and garden view. It feels more like a tucked away, nest. It is cozy and decorated in a modern, tropical~balinese style with 100% cotton, crisp white linens. The kitchen is well-equipped and has everything you need for basic meal preparation. The entire living area is an open-air concept with an open-floor plan. The kitchen has a 2-person bar area and there's a casual dining table for 4. The living area has a couch day-bed, a comfortable reading chair and an awesome hammock. There are award-winning Haiku ceiling fans in the open-air areas, which are more to help with mosquitos. The decor is a Bohemian, Balinese style in neutral colors. None of the living spaces are screened in. The bathroom is an out-house, located 30 feet away down a secluded foot path. It has no electricity. It has a standard toilet, sink and wonderful outdoor shower with hot water and strong water pressure. Check-out the pictures. It is private to your rental, however once in awhile (~1x/week) from 10am - 3pm, an onsite massage client will use the bathroom as the bath house is adjacent to my massage hale. The massage hale which is down the same path as the bath house is available for massages (from The Tao Within Massage) or you may use it in the mornings and evenings for yoga, trading massages, meditation or relaxation. It has an AMAZING audio engine sound system, and really magical lighting. It is available for your use before 9am and after 4pm. Depending on the day and time of year, the farm can have bugs, mosquitos, geckos, spiders, ants, etc. There are also wild chickens roaming the farm and sometimes they even come and lay an egg in the kitchen (the irony!!). Are you ok with that? We just want to ensure that you're happy ~ this is a tropical, mostly outdoor experience. If you want an indoor experience, this is not for you :-) We are 100% committed to ensuring that our rental is clean and that we have no infestations. We have a pest company that sprays the perimeter of the building on a routine maintenance schedule. But, we cannot control mama nature.
We are 1 mile from spectacular Kealakekua Bay, home to spinner dolphins, incredible turquoise waters and world-class snorkeling, paddle boarding and kayaking. Nature based living! Think possible mosquitoes, geckos, wild chickens/roosters, coqui frogs, birds, bees, insects, mongoose.. We are viligant about routine pest management, but to enjoy this experience, you need to be at one with nature. We are a HOSTED rental, which is leagally required for agriculurally zoned rentals like ours.
  • Amazing spot. Highly recommend the mango farm. We’ll be back!

    Felicity & Michael2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • This Airbnb is truly one of a kind and one that is 100% worth checking out. My friends and I only had time to stay for one night, but had so much fun and felt so free the whole time.

    William2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Honestly, this would be my dream house if I could choose! You feel completely connected to nature as the kitchen and living area is outside but protected from rain. The upstairs bedroom has a view to the stars at night and I could feel the breeze at times come through the screen. It was incredibly peaceful and Heather could not have been more accommodating. I hope to be back sooner than later.

    Lauren2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Mango Farm was a fantastic escape and opportunity to relax and enjoy living amongst nature. The space was comfortable and just what we were looking for in an adventure in Hawaii. We'll definitely come back again when we visit the big island.

    Paul2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • What a lovely little slice of heaven! A wonderful place to stay to relax and commune with nature and Hawaii. Close to amazing snorkeling (Two-Step and Captain Cook) and other places to explore. The hosts Lucia and Jesse were sweet and gracious, and gave my husband and children an informative tour of the Mango Farm. We would love to stay with them upon our return. One thing to note: the entire structure is open to the elements, albeit screened in. The Coqui frogs are loud at night, and if you are not used to sleeping with the windows open, the sound can make sleep challenging at first. I used ear plugs and a lite white noise machine under my pillow and eventually fell asleep. My husband and children did not use ear plugs and were fine. But just know this and plan accordingly.

    Sara2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Magical place! Would definitely come back here to spend a longer time!

    Shweta2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • PLEASE READ. BOOK THIS PLACE FOR AT LEAST A WEEK IT IS HEAVEN. There were fresh fruit all around, the bed upstairs is a DREAM. softest linens most comfortable pillows, I wish we had stayed longer and ended the trip here instead of heading back to HNL. The hosts and everyone you interact with are passionate welcoming wonderful hosts. I feel so lucky to have found this slice of heaven. I can get scared but the salamanders toads and roaming hens had me laughing and in the best mood. BOOK IT. heads up you will need to go to choice Mart for some bug spray the mosquitoes loved us BUT the place is just so relaxing you don't even feel the need to scratch.

    Marie-Leigh2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • Magical. The host helped us find a place for take out for dinner which was fantastic. When we got back to the Mango Farm it was getting dark and pouring rain. We were trapped in a blissful covered outdoor space with comfy sofa and blankets listening to the rain and then frogs. Extra touches like fresh fruit on the table were nice and you could pick apple bananas from the living room area! Glamping to the max!

  • We fell in love with this place! It is really in the middle of nowhere and we would recommend to take a jeep to get there because the road is really bumpy and not so good at the end. We had bad weather during the day but don't be sad and wake up at 3am. The sky will be clear and the stars ar amazing! We loved the little details in the room and also the people living here. We often had no internet but you won't need it here. We also loved how the guy living here cares for all the rescued animals. You will have horses, cows, wild pigs, cats, goats and we also saw a turkey.

    Lisa2020-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • We've had a great time at the dome and were even really lucky with the stars.

  • aloha - so grateful to be here during this COVID-19 time. what a gem of a home away from home. awesome host, location, view, & mo - just what I needed - mahalo Melinda

    Nadia Linda2020-04-01T00:00:00Z
  • Melinda is such a nice lady. She allowed us to change the reservation so we can flight back home early due to the outbreak of COVID-19. She responded quickly when messaged her. My son loved the board games and Wii games in the live room too. Location is a bit hard to find as the address shared by two buildings with A and B difference and google map is not accurate, so we had to ask around to find it. but the view is great and the avocado fell from tree is huge. :-) Would love to stay longer if possible. Thanks to host us.

    Jenny2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • A perfect place for us. Good location for all trips, very good facilities, everything was there. The road to the house is a bit steep with a big car. We felt very comfortable. A great veranda with a wonderful view. Mahalo

    Katrin2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice location. Far from the big tourist spots, without being too far either. The location is great, in nature. Melinda was welcoming and kind. Overall the experience is good. The cleaning is done, but the walls are dirty and the couches dusty and with cat hair. 2 cats live in the house downstairs; but goes upstairs (part which is rented airbnb) and he is able to open the door. I think some visitors let him in. My allergies manifested quite a bit. But hey, I would come back to this place without asking myself the question; we liked a lot. :) Really cheap for what it is!

    Gabrielle2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Breathtaking beautiful view of the valley and ocean from the wraparound porch. Kitchen has everything needed for fixing a quick meal. The sink, as mentioned previously, has been well used but functional. 2 nice bedrooms with storage. Many amenities to bath area. Owner lives downstairs and will be readily accessible if needed. Enjoyed our stay

    Diane2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • Spacious place set up in the mountains. Quiet at night with just some nature sounds. Very peaceful.

    Josh2019-12-20T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay here. It was clean, quiet and comfortable. The lanai was a wonderful place for morning tea or sunset relaxing. The beds were very comfortable. It was a great base for jumping off into our adventures.

    Denise2019-12-07T00:00:00Z
  • Really beautiful view! Spacious home. We loved having access to a full kitchen and made use of the stove, rice cooker, and coffee maker. Not as much wiildlife ambiance as other places on the island, but at night we did hear the occasional coqui or falling avocado. Driveway is a little tricky to get out of (on a steep hill, in the bend of a winding road). Would stay here again!

  • WOW. Can I just say that these are the most accommodating hosts I have ever had? From the moment we arrived, they took care of us. Made sure that we had everything that we needed and that we were comfortable. I am so grateful to stay at a place with such hospitable hosts. Aside from that, this cabin is just amazing! It is really unique and very very CLEAN. Some Airbnbs can have cleanliness issues but you do not need to worry about this one! They even provide complimentary snacks and drinks (including beer) for you to enjoy. I have never experienced such hospitality at an Airbnb. I can really tell that the hosts cared about our experience as well as our fun on this vacation! This place is also in the perfect location! This side of the island has the best weather and you are near everything you could possibly need: a beach to snorkel at, tourist attractions, and even a grocery store to buy food. Did I mention the view is just awesome?? Waking up in the morning to the sunrise and roosters crowing is an experience on a whole other level! I highly recommend staying here and you will not regret it!!!

  • Scucheng and William are amazing hosts that provide you with a cozy tiny home situated in a very natural environment. We enjoyed our stay on the ancient coffee farm a lot. For all those that are used to live in noisy cities: enjoy to go to bed and wake up with the sound of the rainforest.

    Michael2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • Emma's place is very cute and stylish. It is a tiny home style with the bed loft up the ladder. The mesh windows work really well and give you a great view of the farm and the stars. It can be a little noisy at night from the farm animals but we enjoyed falling asleep to the sound of the frogs. There were tons of little touches such as complementary drinks and chips - it really makes you feel welcomed. Emma was very quick to communicate when I had questions about our stay. We loved being here for a night and would definitely return!

    Rohan2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location, beautiful little modern bungalow with super unique features! We loved the visibility of the stars at night and sunrise in morning👏🙌👌. Super airy with ceiling fan for air circulation. Our showers were a bit short d/t limited hot water, other than that no biggie❤️. They had snorkeling gear, boogie boards, and a hammock for us to have a perfect day at e beach! All the amenities , fantastic communication, and wonderful hospitality.

    Kari2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing place to stay! Beautiful, scenic, so many good things to stay. The mini house is really neat and I love that all the windows are screen, I hope to be back again in the future!

  • This was our favorite AirBnb we have ever stayed at! The cabin was amazing and it was so fun to sleep in the loft with such an amazing view. Shucheng provided amazing little touches. We loved that there were beach chairs, an umbrella, and towels available for us to use for our beach days. Don’t miss this place if it’s available!

    Rachel2020-03-07T00:00:00Z
  • This place is magical! Every detail of the cabin is exquisite, and even though it’s a tiny home, it feels very spacious. It was such a treat to fall asleep to the sounds of the birds, sleep up in the sky and look out over the water while drinking my coffee in the morning. The complimentary beers, coffee and candy were a great touch too! Can’t wait for my next chance to stay here!!

  • Beautiful property with an amazing view. The home was impeccably clean and had everything we needed. We appreciated the last minute reservation availability and great communication from the host. We would definitely stay here again on a future visit to the Big Island.

  • Mik'A and Lisa's place was wonderful! Our family of four loved lounging, eating dinner, journaling and listening to the ocean from the porch. Our girls loved the games available for a rainy afternoon. The kitchen had all we needed to make meals. The grill was also so nice to have for fresh fish. We also really enjoyed the little black rock beach at the bottom of the hill. There's amazing snorkeling closeby at Two Step (a short drive away) where my nine-year-old learned to snorkel. Comfy beds and excellent showers. I highly recommend this house. I only wish we could've stayed longer! Mahalo, Mik'A and Lisa!

  • Beautiful setting to enjoy amazing views and the sounds of nature and out of town enough to feel what the island is really about. Would easily stay here again.

    Ben2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • Get lulled to sleep by the lullaby of the ocean . Wake up gently as nature’s music is the only sound you’ll hear.

    Marti2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • Another amazing stay at Mik'a and Lisa's place. There is nothing quite like the view from their lanai. It is breathtaking. Lovely open floor plan for the kitchen and living room that allowed us to cook for a read and play boardgames on the rainy days. We had a great time and would stay again in a heartbeat!

    Marie2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • A stunning home in a stunning location. We were two couples and had plenty of private space in the bedrooms as well as shared space in the living room and the wraparound deck. The kitchen is well-stocked and there is a wide assortment of beach gear to borrow (chairs, umbrellas, snorkeling masks/fins). As others have noted, the location is fairly remote so plan ahead for your shopping. We recommend the Ke'ei Cafe for dinner!

    Alexandra2020-01-14T00:00:00Z
  • This home exceeded any and all expectations I had before arriving. The pictures don’t do it justice! It’s simply spectacular. The lanai and inside of home were spotless but also had a cozy vibe that made us feel right at home. It came with EVERYTHING you could ever need with beach supplies, two grills, coolers, beach towels, and a fully stocked kitchen. The views are breathtaking and we enjoyed sitting on the lanai in the evening watching the sunset. It was extremely quiet and peaceful with only the sound of the ocean to put you to sleep :) We loved that it was located near beaches and fruit stands but not so far from town if you wanted to make the drive. Mik’A and Lisa thought of everything you would need along with thoughtful touches. We are already planning our next trip to Kona and hope to come back to this lovely home. It was hard to leave. This is a must stay! Emily and Ohana

  • Great location, beautiful garden, everything you need

    Ursula2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place! Best of all is the location, a short walk to a beach park, which we made several times to see the sunset, and kayak rentals, which we did once. And then it's a very short drive to great snorkeling, which we also enjoyed using snorkeling equipment that Heidi happily gave us so we didn't have to rent any. The place itself was nearly as lovely as the location. Very quiet on a spacious property with a lawn set against the hills and surrounded by open space. Our unit (the downstairs rooms below Heidi's upstairs space) was also spacious. Quite the opposite of a spot in noisy Kailua-Kona. Finally, there's Heidi herself. She was there whenever we had questions. We enjoyed her cat and (friendly small) dog, too. When we ventured out, we enjoyed an area that has not yet succumbed to overtourism with many small and mid-sized towns nearby where we enjoyed locals-oriented restaurants and took an excellent (and free) coffee farm tour. We could not have asked for a better experience. Thanks, Heidi!!

    Bob2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • About a block and a half to the water and a great place to have your morning tea/ coffee. One morning Heidi came by and said the dolphins are out and I went to the water and sure enough was able to see spinning dolphins. A magical place and loved walking distance to Manini Beach Park.

    Lori2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Heidi is such a wonderful host—our entire experience was Airbnb at its BEST. Comfortable, spotless, bright, airy rooms with beautiful touches, excellent kitchen facilities, and very peaceful surroundings. Heidi and her son Jack live upstairs but are so mindful of guests that you don’t hear them, and it was a joy interacting with them. By the way, if you’re looking for more space, she also has a 4-person whole-house rental on the property.

    Jon2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Heidi's place is in a great location and she provides a very relaxing and welcoming space. We were very comfortable there and enjoyed our interactions with her. We look forward to a future visit.

  • Super clean and great location for snorkeling and enjoying the sunset. Just remember to reserve the holiday in advance!

    Kimble2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Heidi’s place is in a serene, beautiful, safe neighborhood very close to the perfect beach for watching sunsets and surfers, fantastic snorkeling, painted church, Pu’uhonua O Honaunau National historical park, and a wonderful fruit stand.

The rates quoted include the 14.5% Hawaii tax on hotels and vacation rentals - cleaning gratuity is appreciated.

  • We enjoyed our stay here and found it to be an excellent value. It is quiet and comfortable. It is accurately described on the website.

    Daniel2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • Fabulous place in S. Kona! We love this lush tropical part of the island, close to some of our favorite places on this part of the island. This is a lovely space! Large, open and comfortable. Its quiet and peaceful. A great place to just hang out, or base yourself for Kona adventures! Ken and Myra are wonderful hosts, who have created a special place to call home on the Big Island. My wife and I have been coming to the Big Island every year for the last ten and have stayed at many places. This is one we will definitely be coming back to!

    Jerry2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • Excellent choice for a stay on the west side of Big Island! Ken and Myra’s place is perfect; spacious, attractive, fully equipped, clean, and well located. You simply can’t go wrong here. Location; Captain Cook is well positioned for all activities in the Kona area and close to those south of town. Ken’s place is very near groceries and an assortment of restaurants so you don’t have far to drive for necessities. Tip; try the fruit stand across the road from the Choice Mart. Comfort; Ken and Myra were friendly and hospitable. They were readily available (living upstairs), but careful to respect our privacy (we hardly knew they were there). The house is even nicer than it appears in the photos. The spacious layout is well designed, allowing plenty of options for sitting to enjoy the place and spectacular environment. The huge bed was comfortable. The kitchen was well supplied, spacious, and well organized. The ventilation was perfect to adjust for warm days and cool nights. Conveniences; everything imaginable in a BnB was provided. There were so many small touches that made it clear Ken and Myra give a lot of thought to the needs of their guests. There was even a set of snorkeling gear available; very good quality, not “loaner” gear. Basic consumables were numerous; kitchen and bath. Complete sets of towels, including beach towels, were provided. How can you beat perfection? We had a fabulous time.

    Tom2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • This is the largest Airbnb space we have ever had! The whole bottom floor of Kenneth's home was devoted to the rental and we were surprised at how large the space was, with a huge living room, a large open galley kitchen and a spacious bedroom. The large private lanai was a particular delight; at night the bird and frog calls were lovely and we stayed up late listening to them and enjoying the warm night air. Kenneth was very responsive as a host, though we were quite independent. We had 4 wonderful days driving around the Captain Cook area, exploring the great beaches and coast highway. The Bayview Coffee Company was close by, and touring there was another highlight. Kenneth provided supplies for coffee, and a great selection of drinks greeted us in the fridge when we arrived. The kitchen was fully stocked with cookware and some basic cooking supplies. We would highly recommend this place and hope to come back with our grown kids next time!

    Carlin2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Kenneth’s place is located right in Captain Cook but very private. Surrounded by vegetation and lots of glass windows which create an open feeling. The living area is spacious and very attractive, the bed comfortable and the kitchen nicely equipped. Ken and Myra are helpful and personable and want to make sure their guests have what they need. We would not hesitate to stay here again.

    Karen2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Stayed here for 11 days . Everything was as described. Great location cool at night making comfortable sleeping and warm at day. Close to many great snorkeling sites . Waling distance to local Choice Mart for most shopping needs . Walking distance to locale restaurants and hotel. That being said best to have a rental car for this location to get to many of the other sites like beaches , down town sites and attractions . While staying most locations we visited including 5 star beaches were no more than 1 and 1/2 hours away and most less than 1 hour driving . Approx 1/2 hour to the down town area a must visit. Ken and his Wife were very helpful with anything we needed and quick to respond to any of our needs all being met with in 30 mins . Kenneth's place is very spacious with plenty of seating in living room area with full dinning area for a setting of four . Kitchen is well setup for all cooking needs , we cooked eight out of our 11 nights and all appliances worked great. Bedroom is also very spacious and well laid out with the Queen bed being very comfortable . Bathroom Has a Huge whirlpool tub that we used a couple of nights. His and hers sinks making getting ready much faster getting out to enjoy the most of every day! If I had to give points for things to take note of that would be to take ear plugs as the night sounds are there all night FROGS are with you every night . After the first night we had no problem adjusting to them but for some this could pose a problem so worth mentioning . We found them soothing and closing all windows worked well with us . Cheap set of ear plugs would do the trick ! We love to BBQ and there is none at this location however a small George Foreman grill is provided. With all this said we would definitely recommend this place to others and when returning will consider staying again. Big Thank You goes out to Ken and his Wife for making our first visit to Hawaii the BEST !!

  • Nice place, although owner lives above, I still had privacy.

    Andres2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great apartment with a superior host. Very close to the best snorkeling spots and good access to Kailua-Kona and the airport. For two people the apartment is spacious. It is also fully equipped. Ken and Myra are very gracious and helpful without being obtrusive. Highly recommended.

The boat room is located on the licensed Rainbow Plantation B&B. A large tropical peaceful oceanview property close to Kailua-Kona, voted best B&B in Hawaii by Readers Digest. Close to dolphin bay snorkeling, hiking, coffee farms and on 1300 ft elevation with a pleasant cooler climate. Quiet peaceful rooms with private baths, and a professional helpful staff. With a common kitchen where you can cook and meet other fellow world travelers too ! Breakfast is not included.
The unique Jungle Queen boat room is a beautiful cozy old renovated boat (on land!) It has a queen bed, bath with a shower and toilet, living room with a loveseat, an LCD TV and fridge and a deck with awesome ocean and sunset views ! For 2 only. It's a real boat. It looks and feels like one still, with a newly renovated interior (Dec 2019). Don't book this if you don't like boats. Smaller room, 6 feet height in some places but an awesome ocean view !
Peaceful quiet rural area with mainly coffee farms, the only in the US. Close to the ocean and swimming, only 5-10 minutes drive or hike there on the famous Cook monument trail. Up on a cooler and pleasant 1300 feet elevation, with no need for a noisy AC.
  • The boat is great. We eat a giant grapefruit from the property and could see the sunset over the ocean.

    Bunny2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • Awesome and lovely place! It was just perfect ! Thx a lot !

    Pierre2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • Staying in the jungle queen was perfect. A perfect getaway from mainstream tourism. A beautiful property with chickens , ducks, a peacock, a couple very friendly cats and of course geckos. The sounds of the birds and creatures at night were incredible! For someone who loves boats this was a nice treat to be on one in the jungle. There is a small mini fridge in the boat and the outdoor communal kitchen has a stove and all your necessary cooking supplies. Easy to find and a great area to stay! Would recommend to anyone and stay there again in a heartbeat!

    Lia2020-01-07T00:00:00Z
  • It was so fun staying in a boat, with an amazing ocean view to watch the sunset in the evening. It was also convenient to have the KTA close by. Lovely property.

  • This place was awesome. Christian was great at providing helpful tips about the area. The place was clean and cozy and had a great view of the sunset. I would stay here again .

    Brock2019-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Once we checked in the host showed us a map and gave us a rundown of the island and whole bunch of activity’s that we can do. Beautiful place to stay very relaxing.

    David2019-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • What a wonderful place! We loved staying in this quirky and magical spot, which was a perfect home base for exploring the east side of the Big Island. The Jungle Queen was a unique and charming experience (note this space is not for tall people or those who are bathroom-shy, as only a curtain separates the toilet cubicle from the rest of the cabin). Sunset drinks on the private porch were a bonus, as was the snorkel gear available for use by guests. We enjoyed all the wildlife too: the bird and insect orchestra, chickens and peacock strutting around by the outdoor kitchen, and the wild pig we caught a glimpse of on our way in. Glad we had a Jeep for the 1-lane road leading in.

    Ellia2019-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our Boat House (aka the jungle queen) it was so adorable. Loved the small table outside was perfect for our morning coffee. Christian was super responsive and came to great us the first day. His sister was helping out and she was so helpful too. Loved the cats on the property they were so friendly. We got to use snorkel gear while we were there to what a plus! Everything was clean. And it was nice vexing secluded in the boat house. I was kinda we weren’t staying there longer actually. So next time we will deff stay longer.

Hale Kai is a cozy studio loft in the heart of Kealakekua Bay, Kona Hawaii. Located only a 2 minute walk to Manini Beach Park and Kealakekua Bay Historic State Park. Walk across the street for a morning swim or kayak to the Captain Cook monument for some of the best snorkeling in the world. 1 queen bed, 2 futon couch/beds for kids or if you have more than 2 guests (inquire within), Kitchenette with 4 burner stove/oven combo, microwave and full size fridge. Full bathroom with standing shower.
Hale Kai Loft is a private upstairs studio apartment in an A-frame style home. The apartment has its own private entry and is equipped with a kitchenette, gas stove, microwave, toaster oven, and full size fridge. Spacious bathroom with standing shower and we provide all the basic amenities such as towels, wash cloths, shampoo/ conditioner, soap. All the things that we know we appreciate while traveling.
Historic Napo'opo'o is a small fishing village located in Kealakekua Bay, popularly known for being the location of the Captain Cook monument and for its protected waters that house a plethora of marine life to view daily. Kealakekua Bay is a marine sanctuary so there is no fishing aloud in the bay but your likely to find dolphins breaking these rules and enjoying the calm protected waters daily. The neighborhood of Napo'opo'o is connected by a simple system of one lane roads, please drive slowly through the neighborhood and watch for kids and locals pets at play.
  • I can not say enough about what a fabulous experience Kai created for us. During a very turbulent unpredictable time, globally, he was a class act. He was kind, caring and extremely communicative. This place is a haven of love, peace and pure aloha! The location is ideal as hiking, snorkeling and anything one could appreciate for a down to earth tropical escape with local flavor is outside the door . It felt like we had our private lil tree house with the convenience of modern life. I highly recommend this place and will be back.

    Steph2020-03-26T00:00:00Z
  • Kai is a great host and his father lives in the house next door. He was a wealth of local information, very friendly and helpful in recommendations. The location is perfect for snorkeling and experiencing the ocean. A taste of the real local Hawaii we did not get to see from the resorts. Excellent host, location, amenities and neighborhood.

    David2020-03-22T00:00:00Z
  • Hale Kai is an amazing place in a wonderfully located area of Big Island. His place was super clean, full with tips and instructions for its appliances and tourism information from nearby places. He also provides a lot of amenities with the stay, so don't be like us and make use of them! Kai is a wonderful host, very friendly, communicative and welcoming. I'm totally recommending this place and him as a host.

    Daniel2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • Kai's place is a perfectly situated rustic escape, just a 5 minute walk from the best snorkeling spot on the Big Island. There were lots of helpful local suggestions, and thoughtful notes around the apartment to make the stay as comfortable as possible! Absolutely would stay here again.

    Elizabeth2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Good little spot perfect little base camp for adventures. Skip big snorkel tours, rent a kayak from the two opperators at Manni beach (Ehu & Kai) very reasonable and only 5 min walk away. Getting in and out of the bay and in and out of the kayak much easier then anticipated. Would stay here again!

    Kieth2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic location! Be aware of the many steps up, use handrail. Kai’s Dad helped us to get parked in proper space. The airflow through the top floor was great and we enjoyed the bird song in the morning. Very clean and plenty of room.

    Ruth2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • The equipment was complete except that it lacked some information to operate the devices: ex: television, we had trouble getting it to work. Then the breaker jumped when the toaster was operated and the coffee maker was operating; same thing for the kitchen light.

    Michel2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Hale Kai is the perfect launching and landing pad for Kealakekua Bay adventures. You're steps away from the precious community-run Manini Beach, which offers a small channel into the bay ... as well as all the kayak/SUP rental companies (we used Ehu & Kai, Adventures in Paradise). We rose before light each day to enjoy the reefs before the crowds arrive at 10am. The hale met all our needs, including a coffee grinder, small french press, and drip machine to enjoy your fresh Kona coffee. We also appreciated the small stereo system with a plug for your audio device. The bed was soft and comfy. Two futons provided a place to nap after long mornings on the water. Floor to ceiling screens line each end of the hale, which provide good air circulation (lots of fans of you need em). Trees and palms provide a tropical vibe and plenty of privacy. They're also a reminder that you're in the jungle ... and thus amidst all the creatures in it! Overall, we really enjoyed the old skool feel and enjoyed our short stay at the "little tin shack in Healakekua Bay, Hawaii." Mahalo!

Welcome to our 1-acre bohemian chic style cottage with Organic Farm. You will experience true Hawaiian Farm living. Located in 2200 ft misty rainforest, minus ion, serene, lush vegetation parts of Hawaii. Just below the cottage is wild organic farm includes coconut, cacao, coffee, banana, mulberry, tangerine, lychee, green tea, ohia, breadfruits and many many more. Overlooking with panoramic Ocean view throughout sunset from our balcony is stunning!
La Maison Blanche is a humble cottage style home, almost everything custom build, hand made in a unique way. it is a coffee shack that we completely renovated according to our taste but the house structure is old and has wears and tears. We have a master bedroom with beautiful lash green view, and we also have a large size lanai that you can receive gorgeous sunset. Very importantly, our place is not in the tight residential zone with resort area, it is much more open green and lush. I think it's perfect for people who are interested in experience "real hawaii farm life style in the Mountain side". We only like to accept guests who understand the beauty of nature surrounding living, which means who are ok with gecko, ants, spiders, birds, and other such all beautiful living creatures welcoming to you, in and out. *I just want to mentioned, we had various guests who gets really bother by insects and geckos coming to our home. We chose not to spray chemical to kill them like hotel do, so please be aware. The upper space has 2 bedroom include 1 queen bed, living room, very simple humble kitchen, bathroom, and large balcony overlooking the panoramic lush jungle view with sunset! Please note as some of our review had mentioned, our home is pretty open space as we need airflow as much as possible meaning that most of the celling are open wich makes it not too private for noises. i think it is perfect for family with childrens. but for some couples maybe feel no privacy. Its all depends on people's needs but i thought to mention this. If you need to ask me any question, i am happy to answer anything.

  • Miho was a lovely host with a beautiful home. The personal touches in the space were absolutely stunning and nothing could beat watching the sunset from the lanai. We enjoyed the fruit picked from their farm and all the suggested beaches and restaurants tips. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer! Highly recommend this Airbnb and can’t wait to be back!

We loved watching the sunset on the lanai every night and the kids loved exploring the property and learning about all the fruit trees! The accommodations are extremely comfortable, stylish and simple - offering everything you need. Minho’s thoughtful details, local guidebooks, welcoming basket of fruit and lovely household natural products cultivate appreciation for all things Hawaii. Our thanks for some lovely memories! There is a beautiful modern bathroom completed with a new floor, sink and toilet, fresh paint to boot that comes with this unit as you can see in the pictures. It is detached from the unit and is located across the yard a few steps. There is half bath in the breezeway with a sink and chemical toilet for your convenience...This is for those who don't want to get their toes wet from one of our beautiful tropical rains by walking across the yard. We of corse promote the midnight view of the magnificent sky's stars. This unit, on this coffee farm used to be a Hoshidana which is where storage of coffee beans and essentials were stored. The roof is on rollers to accommodate drying coffee beans during the day. However; that function for this roof not utilized for some time. You would never believe that twenty some years ago this unit was only a dirt floor !!! As you see the floor is no longer dirt as it had been in the old days. Also the roof is no longer used for drying coffee. This unit is a very fresh, unique tropical comfortable space. All linens are lined dry by our warm tropical breezes. Full disclosure: this is a seasonal working coffee farm, during the season there are coffee pickers on the farm. We have the occasional feral rooster stragglers (if baxter doesn't chase them away) who don't care what time of day or night they talk. We also have coqui frogs on the property, they always have an opinion, especially during rainy season. During dry season they lay dormant and pretty speechless. Come and enjoy a slice of Old Hawaii in Hawaii at Beanies Hale.... The road into my property is an agricultural one lane road. Gravel and dirt for the most part. I highly recommend no low rider rental cars. Be sure there is a decent clearance. During rainy season, the road, depending on the rain can get muddy so you need this clearance to pass. its rare, but can happen. Beanies Hale is tucked into a beautiful piece of paradise unique to the big island off the beaten path. There are many historical places to visit close by. To name a few. KEALAKEKUA BAY CAPTAIN COOK MONUMENT MANINI BEACH CITY OF REFUGE PAINTED CHURCH HOOKENA BEACH PARK SNORKEL WITH MANTAS You can snorkel at most of these places. These are just a few spots. We provide literature in the home for great snorkeling and hiking. Also many delicious food spots to grind during your stay from vegan, local foods, fresh fish plates, sashimi and sushi. COME, and experience this yourself. We'd love to share this unique experience and property with you, if your game..Were here!!! Aloha Pets may be welcomed only with an invitation from host prior to any booking. Refer to “Other things to note” of my requirements please. I will be leaving on a humanitarian trip to Thailand October 30 th- November 16. I always try to respond to my guests within an hour of bookings and inquiries. I may not be able to do this while away. I apologize in advance. But will be in touch on my first opportunity. Mahalo for understanding. Respectfully, Beanie.
Friendly, coffee farm neighborhood. Road into property is an agriculture unpaved Road. Pitted and potted. Your car must have a decent clearance for your comfort driving on it. You do not need a four wheel drive. No sports car...
  • The stay at Brendas place was great. Conveniently located, great food close by and great views. Non intrusive host with a very comfy place. She provided a very stress free experience while in the midst of the coronavirus craze.

    Kevin2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Beanies Hale was a lovely place to stay. Very quiet and peaceful (apart from the frogs at night lol) Brenda was a great host and the place was sparkling clean. The driveway was not paved and quiet rough so watch out if you have a low car like we did otherwise all good.

    Penny2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean & gorgeous views!

    Virginia2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Brenda's place is unique and wonderful! There was lots of space for the two of us and everything we needed as far as kitchen and other commodities. The larger bedroom is gorgeous with its painted floor and many windows -- so nice it was hard to get out of bed in the morning and perfectly cool and lovely for afternoon napping! The neighborhood is quiet except for the sounds of nature, of which there is plenty. The walk to the bathroom was easy to get used to, and gives you an excuse to look at the starry sky in the middle of the night. The sweet town of Kealakekua is close enough to walk to if you're feeling ambitious. Do take seriously Brenda's warning about the road in to her place -- it is bumpy to the extreme. Brenda is fun and very generous, bringing us fruit and picking some of the enormous avocados that grow on her property -- as big as a butternut squash and incredibly delicious. Staying here is a great way to experience Hawaii -- we highly recommend it.

    Maia2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at Beanies Hale for so many reasons. For us, the location was great (tropical surroundings, close to the cute town of Kealakekua, close to several snorkelling spots, both far enough and close enough to Kona) and the house was plenty comfortable (good sized kitchen, nice beds). But more than that we just really liked being there: Brenda and neighbour Chris made us feel like old friends from day one; we picked oranges for fresh juice in the morning and avocados for guac in the afternoon; we watched the sunset with the amazing view of the ocean and were immersed in stars from twilight to dawn. We were sad to leave. Add to all that the fact that it's a really inexpensive option and there's no doubt this place is a winner: affordable, comfortable, unique and memorable.

    Graham And Maude2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Brenda’s farmhouse is super cute! We loved the area (there are some great local restaurants nearby) and she had lots of towels and snorkelling gear for all of our adventures

  • This review is a hard one to put in words. We decided to risk going Hawaii after needing to cancel our European vacation amidst the pandemic that is COVID-19. Staying domestic felt like a safer choice at the time. Unfortunately, Hawaii began shutting down starting with all public beaches and state parks, followed by all restaurants and bars leaving minimal options for exploring the island. With that said, Marilyn’s tiny home quickly became our oasis. We arrived at night and were met by Craig, Marilyn’s home caretaker. He not only came out to welcome us (staying an appropriate distance away), but had left us some of the best chicken soup in our fridge, muffins for the morning, coffee, and a fruit basket collected from the property. During such a scary time, the little acts of kindness seemed not so small. The tiny house itself was impeccably clean (I check all corners trust me), adorable, and well stocked. It had a lovely private outdoor area with an electric grill, covered sitting area, outdoor shower, and a lovely grassy area overlooking the most beautiful tree and lush property. There is an upstairs deck overlooking Marilyn’s gorgeous plot and an ocean view. All the windows were open so we fell asleep listening to the frogs, woke up to birds, it was truly a treat and so relaxing. Guests are graciously also able to use the pool and lawn chairs set up overlooking the ocean on the main house’s back deck which was so great to be able to use. It was Craig who really won us over. He truly made our shorted trip (from 2 weeks to 3 days) on the Big Island such a treasure. He encompasses everything that “Aloha” stands for and made us feel welcome and treasured in the most heart felt way. He helped us find ways to experience the island despite much of it being closed and truly made the trip what it was. I don’t think I can say enough about the hospitality and beauty that is Marilyn and Craig and the tiny home. We will absolutely be coming back under different circumstances.

    Kaitlin2020-03-25T00:00:00Z
  • Marylin was truly the best host I have ever met. Beautiful, kind and giving. Her hospitality and attention to the details in the Tiny House is perfect but her own house and the garden is also beautiful and well attended with love. Felt very abundant while staying there.

    Noriko2020-03-20T00:00:00Z
  • The tiny house is immaculately clean, comfortable, and has everything you could need. The grounds and view are incredible as well. Communication and check-in were a breeze. The location in Captain Cook worked well for us. The neighborhood was quiet yet there are still a lot of things to do. It is also a quick drive into Kona for even more activities. Marilyn is a warm and welcoming host, we feel very lucky to have spend part of our long Hawaii vacation here! Thank you again

    Emily2020-03-16T00:00:00Z
  • The Tiny House is a such a perfect place to stay on the island. Quiet and relaxed, everything you need has been thought of. Highly recommended. Craig was so friendly and helpful. We will stay again if we ever visit the island in the future.

    Amy2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • The Tiny House was everything we were looking for and more! Spacious, super clean, well stocked, convenient location, plus a gorgeous ocean view and a super thoughtful host. This home is a separate “tiny house” next to the owner/host’s residence but it’s not that tiny! It’s been so thoughtfully designed with the bed and bathroom downstairs and the living room upstairs, there’s a space for everything and plenty of room to relax after a day’s exploring the island. We could not recommend this rental highly enough!

    Sean2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Marilyn’s tiny house is such a lovely retreat! Sitting on the private lanai feels as though you’re perched in a lush jungle treehouse. The kitchenette was well stocked with everything we needed to create simple meals using the beautiful fresh fruits that were waiting for us when we arrived. Guests who are very light sleepers should be aware that while the tiny house is in a neighborhood, the surrounding land is dense with fruit trees and foliage, and the crickets and frogs are vocal at night. We did not mind this background noise, and actually found it rather soothing, but it may not be for everyone. We felt very much at home during our week at the tiny house, and highly recommend it!

    Britt2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • I feel so much gratitude for the opportunity to have experienced the peace, tranquility, and beauty of Marilyn's property. It was exactly what I needed and so much more! Do not hesitate to book the Tiny House. Everything was perfect from start to finish, from Marilyn's communication to Craig's warm welcome, and 4 glorious nights in paradise. This was my favorite Airbnb experience to date. Don't miss snorkeling at Two Step, Pu'uhonua o Hōnaunau National Historic Site, Shakas Tacos, and Mamalahoa Hot Tubs and Massage. I have now been to all the major Hawaiian Islands and can safely say the Big Island is the best. Mahalo, Marilyn!

    Abigail2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • Dear Marylin I have no words to say thank you for Marylin and Craig. Our stay in the tiny house was perfect! We recieved amazing ammenities and the house is super clean/beutiul/relaxing. Also, you can fins everything there including fresh orange fruits! The view os stunning Ana ia much more beautiful than the pictures! I would recommend Go to captain Cook monument trail (If you like challenge hikes) and snorkeling on the beach down the trail. Thanks for having us in your place! We'll bê back soon! Carol and Bruno

Mid Kona Ohana is located in the very center of the Kona district at 1400' elevation in an area called Kealakekua. The spacious apartment(ohana) has nearly 800 sq. ft. of space with 2 large rooms. The ohana has its own parking space and private entrance. Ocean breezes during the day and mountain breezes at night make for pleasant temperatures. The view overlooks the ocean with amazing sunsets.
Mid Kona Ohana consists of 2 large rooms that are approximately 18' by 20' each, and a separate bathroom with a large walk-in shower and single vanity. There are ceiling fans in both rooms and plenty of windows. The living room/kitchen area includes a sitting area with a small TV, full size stove and refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker and toaster, along with a kitchen table with seating for four. The large bedroom includes a full size bed, computer workstation, 2 dressers and a large closet to store your luggage. There is also a bookshelf containing books about Hawaii and some board games. Off-street parking and a small lanai out front complete the space.
Mid Kona Ohana is in a quiet residential area on a dead end road so traffic is minimal. It is an older subdivision with a variety of trees and a view of the ocean. There is a grocery store, McDonald's and other smaller local restaurants within about a 2 mile radius.
  • This place is perfect. Spacious, clean, confortable, quiet, great location...

  • Very neat and bright apartment in a convenient location; nearby to basic shopping needs. Close to some of the best snorkeling waters.

  • Lovely spot to stay with a private entrance and gorgeous view out over neighborhood rooftops to the ocean! The bed was very comfortable, and the kitchen had everything we needed! Jeff was very friendly and left us some amazing fresh fruit and coffee upon arrival! We loved the area, and hope to return to Jeff’s place in the future!

    Melanie2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • It is a very clean and comfortable place. The host is extremely friendly and helpful, welcoming us with a message board that has our names and fresh fruits! We have really enjoyed our stay and we would definitely love to come back!

    Cui2020-01-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the location of this place. It's close the several attractions like the Captain Cook snorkeling area, Honaunau Bay, coffee farms, farmers market, etc., and not too far from Kona. The place itself is comfortable, complimentary fruit and coffee was a nice touch. Jeff also let us dry stuff out in their dryer though the apartment itself has no washer or dryer. (Things get wet in Hawaii and stay that way for days due to humidity, something we learned.) There was noise late at night and early in the morning as others have noted. We used ear plugs. Thank you Jeff and Cindy.

    Ani2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • A very clean and comfortable spot! It had everything we needed.

Gingerhill Farm Retreat is located on five acres of organic orchards and gardens nestled just above the famous Kealakekua Bay. We offer serenity and escape mere minutes away from local restaurants, cafes, and shops. Complete with bathroom, kitchen and outdoor shower, our Garden Cottage offers the independence of a cozy private dwelling situated just above the gardens. Relax on the deck in the evenings as you enjoy breathtaking images of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean.
We chose this property because of its deep volcanic soil, ideal elevation, and breathtaking ocean views. Now that the gardens and orchards are mature, we love being able to harvest a huge variety of nutrient-dense food from our land. Visitors are always blown away by our Garden of Eden-style food forests. Take a stroll around the farm and say hi to the animals. Hike down to Kealakekua Bay and swim with the Dolphins. Gingerhill Farm offers an exotic escape from the hustle and bustle of 21st-century living.
South Kona's "Greenbelt," has long been known for farming, especially coffee. Lush growth and farms, cute stores, antiques, and cafes dot the road down to Historic Kealakekua Bay where Captain Cook once "discovered" Hawaii and where tourists now swim with the Dolphins.
  • I have nothing but fantastic things to say about Gingerhill farms! The room was amazing and it was so relaxing to stay here and unwind for four nights. Having coffee every morning on the porch was the perfect start to the day! The location was also ideal, as it is south of busy kona with a lot to do in the area. I would highly recommend a stay at Gingerhill farms!

    Kelsey2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful stay, and a perfect place to start our vacation! We loved the night sounds, put us right to sleep. Iris and Zach were great hosts.

    Tammy2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • The garden cottage was an amazing place to stay. We had small lizardy visitors (didn’t bother us at all, they just hung around) which was nice. Amenities were nice - yoga mats, bug spray, plenty of towels. Since this is a natural environment it’s normal you’ll see a lot of insects and the like (mosquito bites that come along w it) but it was an experience that’s so unique I’m very happy to have stayed here.

    Darren2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage was lovely and the views were breathtaking. We loved spending time on the porch overlooking the fruit trees, lush, beautiful land, and ocean. This is a truly unique place in paradise, and we wish we could have stayed longer. One small issue, the propane tank hadn't been checked/switched out, so we didn't have a warm water shower at night or a working stove in the morning. The hosts were quick to assist and switch the tank once we realized something might be wrong in the morning when the stove would not light. Despite this, I highly recommend staying at Gingerhill Farm Retreat. We loved the experience. Perhaps check with them about the propane upon check in. Thank you again Iris and Zach for welcoming us to your farm! We would love to visit again.

    Cori2020-01-17T00:00:00Z
  • Lovely cottage on a beautiful property, with very kind and thoughtful hosts. We couldn't have been happier with our stay. We highly recommend this place if you are looking for a quiet stay that is still close to town and all it has to offer.

    Natalie2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Garden Cottage is a wonderful hideaway with beautiful and inspirational views. It is truly peaceful. The cottage is decorated with love, featuring beautiful screen prints and books. The verandah has a full kitchen and table and chairs, and I spent many hours cooking and relaxing here, including watching the beautiful sunsets. If you enjoy nature you will love it here. A recommendation also about the outdoor shower - I thought it was great! I was a little afraid from the description, as I was not sure how outdoors it would be, but it is actually wonderful! Very private. Iris and Zach are wonderful hosts, and there is always someone nearby if you need something. I highly recommend the Garden Cottage, and I hope to visit again soon.

    Joanna2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • We were in Hawaii over the holidays and there was a mishap with our final nights stay. Airbnb customer service was really helpful and assisted in placing us somewhere (gin, as it is peak season on the Kona coast and was a one night stay on a Saturday.

  • This is a beautiful place, set up on the hillside looking down to the sea, embedded in a gentle rural farm/forest. The accommodations were very comfortable (king-sized bed was extremely comfy), and wifi fast enough, privacy and quiet was excellent. The location is very good for accessing both beaches and local communities. We highly recommend, and would choose it again.

We live in the Kona coffee belt and all of our neighbors run working coffee farms. This is a unique little pocket of "old Hawaii" acreages nestled in between newer developments, Kealakekua township and one of the largest coffee farms on the island, Greenwell Farms. Our neighbors are all very friendly and you will find that if you come "with Aloha," then you will receive lots of Aloha in return. We are a multi-cultural family and are happy to "talk story" with you about the Hawaiian islands, culture and modern-day society that make this place special. Please be respectful of our neighbor's privacy and do not wander on to anybody else's property.
  • This is a beautiful cottage on a beautiful farm in a convenient location with kind, friendly hosts. I can't recommend this stay highly enough; Corinne and Juan Carlos are the finest Airbnb hosts I have ever had, bar none.

    Michael2020-03-23T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing view. Peaceful. Extremely clean. We loved it so much we bought groceries and grilled instead of going out to eat. Sitting on the lanai in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings...we would have never left!

    Catherine2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • I cannot say enough about this place! Corinne and Juan Carlos were awesome hosts very quick to respond and very friendly! I have stayed at a copious amount of Airbnbs and this one deserves 10 stars out of 5. There was fresh fruit from their farm on the table and some coffee beans for the stay! It was SO clean.. so many amazing thoughtful touches like extra toiletries in the event that you forgot your own.. they even had some after sun aloe in the fridge! The kitchen was stocked! Everything you would need to cook a meal with spices.. tea and coffee and condiments in the fridge. They had movies and some games for ppl with kids too! The bed was very comfy! They provided plenty of towels and face cloths..and some beach towels as well! We spent every morning having our fruit and tea in the lanai and watched the sun set in the evenings as well. It has an incredible view of the skyline/ocean and you’re surrounded by nature! The road going up to the property is quite bumpy which we were made aware of! There are lots of roosters around some of the other properties so if you are a light sleeper bring ear plugs! We didn’t mind all the sounds of nature and to be honest you kind of get used to it! There is a grocery store down the way and cute coffee shops/gelato and you are quite close to a lot of great beaches! We will definitely be back here and hope to book here some time in future!

  • If you have any questions about whether this is the place to stay put them away right now. It is a truly magical place with outstanding hosts. If you are looking for true Hawaii in a beautiful setting and an emaculate and comfortable place then you have found it. I can still see the sunlight creep down the hill over the coffee plants each morning as it reached down to the sea (which is sprawling out in front of you) from the huge screened in porch. I miss it so much and you will too. Juan Carlos and Corinne are better than superhosts, they made us feel like we belonged on their island and in their community. We attempted to hit each recommendation on the list for beaches, food, activities, etc and each one was even better than they said. Do not hesitate to stay with them.

  • Corinne and Juan's cottage retreat was just what my mom and I needed to unwind. Close enough to all the things to do without being in the bustle of the town. Cottage is exactly as described, clean, fully stocked and was so relaxing. Communication throughout was a breeze and we really appreciated talking with Juan about the local produce, coffee and local attractions. Highly recommend.

  • We thoroughly enjoyed our stay! We loved the view and the farm setting. The early check-in was much appreciated after a long flight from Sydney. Very friendly and attentive hosts.

  • best place ever. we have had an excellent stay.

    Manfred2020-02-08T00:00:00Z
  • We loved Corinne and Juan Carlos's house! The screened in porch with beautiful views is where you will spend all your time. It is close to beaches and things to do, but is in a country setting. We loved starting and ending our day on the large porch with the beautiful views. Hosts are very responsive to needs and questions. House is stocked with everything you need for meal preparation.

Prime location great weather calmer ocean, ideal location to explore island! Kitchenette (microwave, toaster oven, Nuwave Cook top, elec griddle, coffee maker, sink, mini frig.) This affordable private studio is in back of house shaded under upstairs overhang with indirect sunlight which keeps cooler on hot days! Private entrance with kitchenette, private bathroom with big shower for 2.
  • A great place to stay while in Kona. Very secluded with a really cool driveway. If bugs, spiders, and all those creepy crawlies scare you, you may be nervous walking into the room. There are a few big webs and decent sized spiders near the stair case, but hey it’s Hawai’i what do you expect? Chris and Carolyn are very nice and offer great hospitality. Feels like you’re surrounded by great friends while on your stay. The room is very private and offers all one could need while on a trip to the island. It is actually a lot bigger than expected. Would 100% recommend this place to anyone staying in this location.

  • A home away from home..peaceful sleeping...off the beaten path, but an easy drive to Kailua Kona beaches.

    Elizabeth2020-03-18T00:00:00Z
  • The place was great. Just what we were expecting. Private, safe and secluded. We added two nights at the beginning of a planned trip and spent the days exploring the Kealeakua Bay/Captain Cook Bay Area. Did the monument hike (take lots of water, lots). Carolyn was great. Met us when we arrived and gave us the lay of the land. (It was our second trip to the Big Island, so we knew the basics). Meets expectations. Highly recommended. Thank you for sharing your home with us. Mahalo. Ethan and Rebecca

  • Cozy, comfy, and a great host!

    Tristan2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We thoroughly enjoyed our short stay here! Really a fantastic location very close to the Captain Cook trail, Two-Step and Ho'okena beach. Not too far from Kona town and Carolyn was very helpful with giving us tips for things to do! Thank you for everything!

  • This little apartment had everything we needed. We like to cook at home, and the kitchen had all the things necessary for us to make all our meals. The shower was very nice, but just give the water a second to heat up and you’re golden. We used the little grill outside to cook some salmon from the farmer market and it was great! The bed is fairly firm which we weren’t used to, but it was spacious. After exploring all day we spent our evenings relaxing in the little gazebo in the front yard. It was a lovely place and Chris and Carolyn were very nice to chat with.

    Sam2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Great studio! This was a really pretty little place and Chris and Carolyn are super nice.

    Drew2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This was an ideal experience for us as a couple and we would absolutely stay again. It is a few frills studio with a great kitchenette and a clean bathroom. It is located in a beautiful quiet secluded place surrounded by greenery. We loved the proximity to stores and the beach as well as being a bit out of the way. It’s a very different experience than going to one of the big resorts and honestly, I prefer this. You have easy access to your vehicle and close access to a number of beautiful coastal spots. There is no TV which wasn’t a problem in this era of devices, but there was great WiFi. I would absolutely stay here again and had a wonderful time.

  • This was everything we wanted and more! We had incredible views and access to nearby attractions. If you want to have a more quiet and laid back experience away from the resort crowds, this is it! It was great that boogie boards, snorkel gear, and wet suits were provided for us. We look forward to booking this cottage again for next year.

  • Relax in paradise! Outdoor living at its finest! Beautiful views! Steps from the ocean! The outdoor kitchen and outdoor shower are fabulous! We hope to visit again soon!

  • The pink cottage provided us the most lovely stay! Sitting outside for morning coffee or evening meal watching the gorgeous sunset while the waves roll in — nothing could have been more relaxing or more beautiful!! Rusty and Janice responded immediately to every question and provided us with great recommendations for beaches, restaurants, etc. The cottage is really within walking distance to 3 ocean access points including Manini Beach Park!! And you can watch and hear the waves from the cottage. The neighborhood is a gorgeous community with flowering trees lining every street and home. Choicemart supermarket is only a few minutes away and they will deliver. You ate close drive to antique and many boutique shops, coffee houses, and the Place of Refuge National historical and cultural site. If you are looking for a romantic getaway, or just a relaxing trip, or you want to do some serious kayaking or snorkeling— this is the place!! Thank you, Rusty and Janice, for a marvelous stay.

  • This is almost at the beach. It’s a short walk to one of the best beaches in the area. The outdoor kitchen was fun. We loved spending all our time outside except when we were sleeping. There’s a lovely outdoor shower. You could even sleep outside if you want! The area is quiet but there is so much to do nearby. If you are looking for a cookie cutter central air conditioning condo experience this is not the place for you. However if you enjoy the outdoor beach lifestyle you will love it!

    Mary2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I spent eight nights in Rusty and Janice's cottage in early January 2020. It is about a 45 minute drive from the Kona airport and is literally about 50 yards to the ocean. The house is a one-bedroom with both an inside and outside shower (the outside shower was fantastic!). The house has an inside kitchen, we only used the outside kitchen-covered patio which looks out past Rusty and Janice's house to the ocean (Their house is only about 30 feet from the cottage. The outside area has a four-burner electric stove-oven, coffee makers, blenders, large refrigerator-freezer, sink, electric dishwasher, toaster oven, microwave, spices, foil, ziplock bags, utensils, pans, pots and cutlery. In addition, there is an outside propane-barbeque. In other words, Rusty and Janice have one of the best-stocked/supplied Air BnB rentals we have ever visited...and we have been to numerous other AirBnB rentals in Hawaii and abroad. You can rent kayaks right next door (about a one-minute walk from the cottage). We took kayak trips across the Kealakekua Bay to see the Captain Cook monument and swim with the spinner dolphins. We also took numerous snorkel trips from Manini Beach Park (about a 3 minute walk from the cottage) which had some very good snorkeling, especially when the wind was calm. The wireless internet connection was very good and the neighborhood was very quiet at night. However, there was no television, but that didn't bother us at all. Rusty and Janice were awesome, giving us many great tips on what to do as far as our side trips and restaurants to visit. Overall, we are planning on returning next year. This is a great area of the Big Island if you just want to snorkel, kayak and get away from the hustle-bustle of the more busy areas closer to Kona. We loved it. Thanks Rusty and Janice!

    Melanie2020-01-03T00:00:00Z
  • This is the place you want to stay for your vacation. It's private, but close enough to any Kona location that the drive is easy. Manini beach provided us with the best snorkeling we had on our trip, blowing two step out of the water. The trick was hitting it on a good day, which is where this location's stellar hosts take over. Rusty and his wife have an incredible knowledge of the area and know the best times to do various activities. They are a huge reason our trip was as fun and successful as it was. You can count on them to handle any problems that might arise at the house too, Rusty is a handyman by nature. The dishwasher gave out on us on the last day we were there and within 5 minutes of me realizing there was a problem Rusty was there with his tool kit. From the amazing sunsets to the even more amazing hosts, I cannot recommend the Dolphin House to the extent it deserves. If you go anywhere else in the area, you're making a mistake.

  • Amazing spot! So relaxing and Rusty and Janice are the perfect hosts. They did everything possible to make our stay perfect. Location can’t be beat! If you enjoy the outdoors this is the place for you.

NANAINA COTTAGE. JUNGLE LOVERS DREAM AWAY FROM THE REST OF THE WORLD This is the ultimate romantic getaway for two with a million-dollar-view of the South Kona coast. It is perched on a rock cropping surrounded by mango trees. A one-minute walk along a jungle path leads you to this secluded setting.
There is a covered lanai (deck), and a few steps down a large open sun deck, with an additional simple bedroom if you prefer not to sleep in the loft (with a view). The cottage comes with a full kitchen (no dishwasher) and a washing machine. Be aware of mangos falling on the roof during season. Although we are within minutes from shopping, sight seeing & Beaches, getting to our secluded home can be an adventure. We are tucked away in a jungle/rainforest type setting and a 4 wheel drive vehicle is strongly suggested.
We are literally minutes away from Kealakekua Bay the location that captain James cook first set foot on these beautiful Islands. Once a thriving fishing village Kealakekua bay now boasts snorkeling, kayaking and swimming with Hawaiian spinner dolphins. Other points of interest in the area include Ke'ei beach, and Manini Beach. Not far from Kealakekua bay, you will want visit Pu'uhonua o honaunau or the city of refuge. This ancient place of refuge provided peace and safety during times of battle or unrest, rich in Hawaiian History and culture. located a stones throw away from two step beach. Although we are located on the same island that madame pele currently resides, we are about 2.5 hours from her wrath and not in any danger. Protected by Mauna Loa and Mauna Kea, Blessed by the Kona trade winds that keeps our air breathable and clean, it’s still the best place on the planet.
  • Very peaceful space - the best night of sleep I’ve had in a very long time due to the comfy bed and the delightful chorus of frogs in the evening and night, and birds in the morning.

    Kea2020-03-21T00:00:00Z
  • An excellent jungle paradise. Very secluded with a breathtaking view! Perfect location for exploring all that the big island has to offer. Make sure you get 4 wheel drive to make it up the drive way. The view from the top is worth it.

    Brianna2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We love this place. A perfect place in paradise. Just be aware if traveling with kids, the second BR is not directly connected. Have a 4WD to visit some of the secluded beach

    Bastien2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • If you want 1.) a fantastic view of 15 miles of Captain Cook coastline observed at 1000 ft above sea level, 2.) awesome sunsets, and 3.) a jungle setting comprised of numerous fruit trees on 2.5 acres of land, this is the property for you. We stayed for 14 days in February, 2020. The Nanaina Cottage is a private 2 story structure with only one other structure on the property. It’s a good idea to rent a 4 wheel drive vehicle as the driveway is rutted and is 0.2 miles long with a 200 ft. elevation gain. Hence the fantastic views. Pricilla and her support team were very responsive to any concerns. As the name says, it is a jungle lovers dream. We will be back.

    Mary2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Fantastic spot to rest and relax, with a complete treehouse feel and gardens to match! Great use of space, and great privacy with spectacular views.

    Sarah2020-02-05T00:00:00Z
  • Place was amazing!

    Tommy2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • The property and space were beautiful and quite secluded. Waking up in the loft to the breathtaking views of the ocean was particularly special. The WiFi was good, with a Jeep the drive to the property was no problem. The hot water is a little finicky but with some fine tuning it's nothing to worry about. We loved our stay here, coffee on the deck was enjoyable every morning. Our favorite local spots was "The Coffee Shack" for breakfast and "Shaka Tacoz" for a quick bite. "Ola Brewing" in Kona was our favorite spot to try locally brewed beer, cider, and Seltzer's. A fun day activity on the island for animal lovers is to visit the humane society and take advantage of their field trips for shelter dogs program, where you can check out a pooch for the day and take them on an adventure (beach, trails, lunch ect...)!

    Chris2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • First off.... totally take her recommendations for a 4x4 vehicle! The place made us feel as if we were in a lush jungle! The sounds at night were so peaceful! The views were absolutely phenomenal. What a cool place to stay at in Hawaii!!

Open beams & split pitch roof. All stained wood. Brand new dwellings
Just built. Detached guest house. Polynesian style Detached with 1 bedroom and partially outdoor shower
Our dwelling is historical. It was built in 1944 by Greenwell Ranch to house their Paniolo (cowboy) workers. The site is approx. 20,000 sf and very fertile with much rich soil (not so common in Kona). The guest house is completely detached and a good 100 feet away. There are privacy barriers between guest house and main house and a completely private entrance. It is well lit with motion sensor floodlights at night. There is also a gravel driveway through our yard right up to the guest house if guest party is packing heavy suitcases. The neighborhood is fairly standard Hawaii style residential houses mostly inhabited by long term residents. There are no barking dogs. One can park up by the guest house if one wishes, but navigation is a little tricky. Otherwise, a space in the detached garage is for the guest. Our yard is beautifully landscaped (if I do say so myself) since my wife's hobby is landscaping
  • We stayed at May Rose Cottage for one week and it was an absolutely wonderful experience!! The hosts were very kind and welcoming. They even shared some bananas with us from their garden and they were so delicious! I was most amazed by the beautiful gardens on the property with a large variety of orchids, anthurium, hibiscus, and many other Hawaiian plants and flowers. The gardens are obviously very well tended and truly a labor of love! We felt like we were staying in the middle of a tropical paradise. It truly felt like we had our own treehouse in the jungle and we were able to enjoy birds, geckos, tree frogs, and other wildlife. My husband was most impressed by the craftsmanship of the cottage. It was a wonderful set up with a deck, balcony, and a luxurious outdoor shower. The place was absolutely spotless with impeccable attention to detail. The location was wonderful for us as well. We were very close to some of the best snorkeling in Hawaii including Kealakekua Bay (Captain Cook) and Honaunau Bay (Two Step). We actually walked from the cottage to the Trailhead for Captain Cook. Great food in the area as well including Shaka Tacoz, Teshima Restaurant and Annie’s Burgers. Thanks so much for a wonderful stay—we can’t wait to return someday!!

  • Another great stay !

    Bruce2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • What a beautiful spot, and lovely, artful gardens! The cottage itself is beautiful, , well laid out, with furnishings we really appreciated. Guidebooks available were helpful. The shower was terrific - loved being able to see flowers and trees, catch the outdoor breeze while showering. There's a coffee pot and filters and gorgeous deck for sipping it on, but no coffee or tea, so consider whether to bring some of your own, or buy the pricey local shops offerings. Hope everyone else enjoys their stay at May Rose Cottage as much as we did.

    Kathleen2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • Second time staying here. This time with my adult children. We rented both units from John and had 5 total adults. You can’t beat the price or the privacy found at John & Nat’s place. The outdoor shower was the best! Nat’s garden was one of the most amazingly well thought out and well kept I have ever seen. It’s like a mini sanctuary for wildlife and birds. So many different types of plants and trees attract many birds and other small animals that live there. Kitchen was big enough to prepare meals in and there is usually some kind of fruit ripe on the grounds, in addition to the many very close, local fruit stands. Proximity to Two-Step beach was great! Best snorkeling on the island, in my opinion. We saw many different fish, turtles and even a 7’ Galapagos shark in this protected reef while snorkeling. I would absolutely recommend to ANYONE who is looking for relaxation and privacy at a great price. Mahalo nui Natalie & John for sharing your home!

  • May Rose Cottage is a beautiful place for a wonderful vacation. The lush gardens, Polynesian architectural design, and stunning walk in shower make staying in this rental a memorable experience. Being in the Captain Cook area feels private and out of the tourist area, yet you are amazingly close to services and a full grocery store. The bed is comfy and the ample decks and mini kitchen provide all one needs for a real Hawaiian getaway. A gem. Please note, there are stairs.

    Linda2020-02-26T00:00:00Z

Brand new downstairs apartment. Upstairs is the May Rose Cottage and this is the downstairs portion, and completely separate. Bathroom is very custom. Kitchen includes gas cook top range and disposal. There is a BBQ deck and an addition large deck for sitting and enjoying the ambiance of the lush well tended grounds.
  • John and Nat's place is incredible. Very private and in a great location (close to Kona and with quick access to the south). The garden is so beautiful, it is very clear that John and Nat care. Very kind hosts--they were even kind enough to share some apple bananas from their own garden! The place itself is definitely better than the pictures show, so if you're on the edge for some reason, just book it! It is super close to the Captain Cook hike, which was a plus for us. I would highly recommend.

Stay in this modern room in a shared guest wing of a stunning, open air house that is just 10 minutes to the beach and downtown. You will enter this unique home by a stone bridge over the koi pond before enjoying a beautiful pool, ocean views from the lanai, and laid back Hawaii living. A few things to note: -The room has 3 fans, but like most Hawaiian homes, no A/C. Summers, especially, are hot. Please keep this in mind when booking. -This is a room in a shared space, with 2 other guest rooms nearby. Living room and kitchen are shared. -Young kids live in the main part of the home.
The Koi House is a home that echos relaxed way of life. It is an open air space with plants, a koi fish pond, natural and upcycled materials, and serene forest & ocean views. * The vibe is casual, communal and friendly. * I've worked hard to cultivate an eco-minded authentic space full of vintage textiles, natural accents, contemporary decor and a welcoming atmosphere that I enjoy sharing with guests and friends from all over the world.
The neighborhood is quiet and suburban in style, while the house's setting at the edge of a nature reserve delivers rural privacy. Both the town and the beach are only 10 minutes away, and there are many fine snorkeling locations down south. A car is a necessity on the island and in this neighborhood.
