All about Cabra
Cabra is a small rural town in central Andalusia in southern Spain, midway between the larger cities of Córdoba and Málaga. People have lived here since the Stone Age, and Cabra has been under the rule of the Romans, Visigoths, and Moors, leaving an array of historical sites and castles. Learn more about the area’s history and culture at the Cabra Municipal Archaeological Museum, which is full of artifacts dating from the Paleolithic to the late modern period.
The town serves as a gateway to the nearby Parque Natural de las Sierras Subbéticas, one of Spain’s most impressive national parks, where water has been carving limestone canyons for hundreds of thousands of years. The park’s mountains and valleys are home to golden eagles, wild goats, and hedgehogs in a richly biodiverse landscape of native plants and mosses — you might even spy rare orchids growing from cracks in the rocks. You will find ample opportunities for hiking and wildlife spotting here. In Cabra, visit one of the local cafes and restaurants to try Andalusian culinary specialties like goat’s-cheese salad, stuffed pork rolls, and ham and egg soup.

Its more than 78,000 acres are excellent for hiking and wildlife viewing, with more than 70 species of nesting and migratory birds as well as wild boars, mountain goats, and mouflons (horned sheep). There are various trails leading to the top of the mountain of Tiñosa, from where you can enjoy sweeping views of the region.
Cabra Castle
Built as an Arab fortress prior to the ninth century, Cabra Castle has had a long and turbulent history.
