~~UPDATE 3/13: Gigabit fiber coming soon! Note that our neighbor’s house is undergoing a full renovation. While it’s not always consistent, you may hear construction noises on weekday mornings.~~ Glamour + camping = glamping! - Centrally located to BART, UCB, & restaurants - BART (7 blocks) to SF in 25 minutes - Wifi, linens, towels, coffee, & tea provided - Big ol' yard with chickens - One of two Airbnb spots here, so you might meet some other travelers! It's like a hostel, but clean. ;)
Welcome! Enjoy all the comforts of home in this fabulously restored vintage caravan. Come say hi to the chickens, enjoy coffee and tea in the garden. You'll be close to pretty much everything and BART is 7 blocks away. We look forward to hosting you! The house is on the same property where we live with our 2 small children. We are very family friendly. Come glamp in our little slice of country life. This 1964 Kenskill camper has been fabulously restored and customized so you can play "pretend camp" while enjoying the comforts of home. This is a great spot especially if you've ever been tiny-home-curious. In a previous life, this caravan was the food truck for Katie Cupcake, serving up the delicious treats in Flagstaff, AZ. You're sure to enjoy sweet dreams. ;) We rearranged the interior so it feels much more spacious than the traditional layout. It's really quite nice inside. And yes, there's even a full bathroom with a proper flush toilet, sink, and small separate shower. The stall is short so taller folks need to get creative to shower. Towels and linens provided. Mini kitchen has a working gas range, double sink, microwave and fridge. Coffee and tea provided, plus feel free to gather some eggs for breakfast. Watching "chicken TV" is a relaxing way to enjoy the garden. You may encounter our two kitties, Cowboy and Beebop. Our place is one of those homes that's all front yard, and we positioned this trailer so you can sit at the dinette and enjoy a view of the garden and our silly flock of chickens. Some people ask about safety. We've lived in the East Bay for 20 years, sampling the whole socioeconomic spectrum of neighborhoods. We've felt more at home here in this slice of town that we've felt anywhere else in the Bay Area. Put on your city smarts and you should be A-OK. That being said, there are lots of great places to eat and drink nearby whether you want to walk, bike or drive. Three great new restaurants are nearby: Sideshow (excellent beer garden with delicious dinner options), Cassave Restaurant (delish El Salvadoran grub and a full bar) and Easy Creole (casual, tasty, and fast). Our favorite local spot is Sweet Adeline with delicious pastries and tasty coffee. There's another coffee and sandwich shop, Alchemy Cafe next to Easy Creole. It's straight out of Portlandia. On Tuesdays, there's a farmer's market from 3-7pm just a couple blocks away! Venture a little further and hit up the big Temescal Farmer's market on Sunday mornings. Your hosts are two UCB alums and former co-opers. Lewis is a programmer by day, musician by night. Ginger is a Jill of All Trades, ranging from glassblowing to finance. Jules (age 5) and Pasqual (age 3) are our little greeters. We'll leave you to your own devices, but don't hesitate to ask if you need anything. Thanks for looking and happy travels! ***FAQ*** Q. Is there heat? A. Yes, we provide a space heater that keeps it warm and cozy. Q. Is there hot water? A. Yes, there is a dedicated on-demand water heater for the caravan. Q. If we don't want to share the bed, is there room to put a mat on the ground? A. Kind of, but I wouldn't recommend it. You could fit a mat on the walkway to the bathroom, but then you'd have to step on each other to get around! Q. Do you have luggage storage? A. Sure, we can fit a few pieces of luggage in our supply room. Q. Where do I park? A. Parking is onstreet . If you don't get a spot just outside, you can usually find one on the block. Watch for street sweeping signs (a few hours out of the month). Q. Can I bring an animal? A. No. We need to keep the space allergen-free. Q. What about assistance animals? A. Due to past trauma, dogs of any size are not allowed to enter the property as they pose a health and safety risk with our particular circumstances.
For some reason Airbnb doesn't know how to place us on the map. We're on the same block as Lois the Pie Queen -- a neighborhood fixture and solid greasy spoon diner. Although our neighborhood is not the prettiest, we have a great community and are happy to be raising a family here.

  • Awesome space. I felt like I had stepped into a portal and hopped back to the 70s, then had my soul licked by a child who was born at a Grateful Dead concert or burning man! I loved it. It’s the Barbie doll caravan that I always wanted for my non existent hippie Barbie!

    Carlie2020-02-19T00:00:00Z

    Kelcie2020-02-12T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely a out-of the-norm experience in Oakland. Chickens, gardens, funky/groovy camper that is both unique and functional. Enjoyed the fact that they accommodated a last minute booking, as well as, an additional day which I booked the following morning. Definitely not your run-of the-mill generic hotel room. This place has personality and both privacy and comfort for a memorable experience that is worthy of sharing.

    Daniel2020-01-30T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great time at Ginger & Lewis's place, they where awesome with communication, location was perfect close to the BART and campervan was so cute with it's little touches. Thanks for a great stay!

We are a 10 min. walk to Ashby BART; average ride into SF - about 20 min. Emeryville (Amtrak Station) Oakland, U.C. Berkeley are all close by. Completely private; gated keypad entry through black bamboo & rose hedges. Envisioned primarily as a romantic bedroom, the cottage is also equipped for working travelers. Large bathroom can be opened to secluded courtyard garden. WiFi, fridge, microwave, coffee Walk to: Berkeley Bowl West market, Creekwood Restaurant, cafes, good coffee, bike rentals.
Please Note: Check-in any time after 2PM; check out by 11AM The Cottage is hidden on a tree lined street in an unassuming residential neighborhood next to our small Victorian house. It has its own gated entrance and pathway through grasses, mature trees and a hedge of wild roses. A second gate (keyless entry) allows entrance to the continuance of the pathway through an eclectic garden of fruit trees, flower and berry bushes, luxurious black bamboo, & artworks by the hosts. Guests love the eastern views from the large high windows; especially good in the mornings. The views change with the seasons; autumn leaves and burgeoning fruit from the persimmon tree, the riotous golden yellow cascade of rosa banksia, the starkly beautiful bark of the Dawn Redwood tree in winter; maybe delicate pink apple blossom petals swirling in a spring wind. Always, (it being Squirrel End and all) there are the many entertaining squirrels playing high up in the giant oak tree. While you won't need them for privacy, we have provided black-out shades for jet-lagged guests who would like to sleep in, and those who find themselves visiting during the 3 or 4 days of the year on which the very early morning sun comes blazing through. If you are lucky enough to visit on a warm day, take a refreshing shower and then a long soak in the big claw foot tub. The bathroom doors open to the totally private small outdoor patio. Actually, guests have said it is just as satisfying even on the coldest of days.
Our modest residential neighborhood, at the intersection of Berkeley, Oakland and Emeryville, is changing rapidly. Our house was built in 1900 and we arrived in 1979. There are more and new buildings going up, more new places to do everything. In the midst of the hubbub, the Cottage at Squirrel End is an oasis of calm and quiet.
  • Such a wonderful place to stay in the East bay! The check in was super easy, Dan was helpful and communicative. Perfect place for a couple of nights in Berkeley. Clean, peaceful and relaxing.

    Sabrina2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at Dan and Linda’s cottage. This was my first trip to Berkeley and the Bay Area. The cottage Dan built was very cute and cozy (not in a tiny way, just a super cute way). As far as amenities, there was a coffee pot and electric tea kettle (with coffee and tea), refrigerator, fluffy towels, shampoo/conditioner/soap. The fresh flowers were a nice touch. I would mention that there is not a TV, so bring your iPad or computer if you want to watch movies after a long day of being tourist! Lol. We were trying to disconnect from work so we didn’t bring laptops along so we ended up streaming movies on our phone. There was WiFi so that was not an issue. There is a little market/grocer just around the corner, and a liquor store about a block away. We mostly drove everywhere because it was a bit of a walk and we were tired from the hills of San Francisco. The location was very central for all the things we wanted to do. We went up to Napa/Sonoma for one day, Muir Woods another day, and spent a couple days in the city, at Chinatown and at the piers. We also explored Berkeley and visited the Berkeley Bowl. Everything was less than an hour away. Dan and Linda are great hosts and bring a personal touch to their property. Thanks for letting us stay at your cottage.

    Michelle2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Tranquil abode in a regular neighborhood. The nature setting adds to the beautiful interior design. It is an extremely clean place, bed and linens just perfect. No stairs and easy access which was a nice plus. It was almost like being in a hotel room surrounded by nature, with birds singing in the trees. Loved the bathroom. It was just perfect before a major exam where I needed space and quiet to study, along with quick access to both uptown Berkeley Oakland.

    Erin2020-02-27T00:00:00Z
  • Great place for a quick getaway or staycation! Very tranquil and scenic!

    Amber2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • Super cute and romantic Airbnb! Amazing for the value and close to many stores. The area was close by a lot of activities. Linda & Dan had such great communication. Really had a great time in their space. (:

    Kaylyn2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • A great and private space that is close to both Oakland and San Francisco via car. Linda and Dan provided everything needed and were communicative throughout our stay.

    Tiara2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • This was the perfect, dreamy spot for an adventure in Berkeley and San Francisco. Very comfortable space with beautiful details, design, and ambiance. It really is as beautiful as the pictures describe, and that clawfoot tub and courtyard are so special. We had a great stay, and enjoyed walking to nearby restaurants and shops. Linda and Dan are just as charming as their home, and made us feel welcome. We will be back, and will be sending friends in the meantime!

Traditional Japanese architecture tucked away in a great Berkeley neighborhood. Peaceful and quiet but just a few blocks to UC Berkeley, all the restaurants of the "Gourmet Ghetto", and the North Berkeley Bart station. Berkeley Short Term Rental Registration # ZCSTR2017-0007
Traditional Japanese building with Tatami mats, organic queen size futon, and an "Ofuro"- a deep and luxurious soaking tub (similar feel to a hot tub). Entering the tub requires agility as it is high and you have to stand on a bench, sit on the edge of the tub, and swing your legs around. If you have any questions about that please ask (and see pictures). Lots of natural light with five skylights. Older wooden building with a somewhat rustic feel. The woven grass tatami mat floors have a noticeable smell of dry grass which we find to be lovely, but may not be for everyone. Comfortably sleeps 2 in new all natural foam mattress. Minimal kitchen with small fridge, tea kettle, and small toaster oven. We use fragrance free and non-toxic cleaning materials and provide Dr. Bronners hand soap. There is a fan available for use.
Peaceful neighborhood just minutes from downtown Berkeley and UC Berkeley. Close to amenities including restaurants, coffee (Philz!), grocery stores, Farmers' market (Thursday afternoons), ice cream parlors, beauty salons, and drugstores.
  • Great hospitality. Helpful tips about the neighborhood. Great ambience. Its evrything as pictured. A quiet get away close to downtown.

  • This was a really beautiful place to stay. Thank you! Super easy check in and check out.

  • What a lovely, lovely space. I just needed a place to crash before a half marathon and this little home was just perfect. I felt my blood pressure lower just walking in; it’s so relaxing. I hope to be able to come back!

    Megg2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful and peaceful Japanese Tea House is a perfect and special place to stay. I enjoyed it very much. The bed was uncommonly comfy!

    Chris2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • When we stepped in, we felt like we were transported to a ryokan (onsen hotsprings resorts) in Japan. Of course, there aren't the full course kaiseki meals or a hinoki bath (the maintenance would be insane), but there are full tatami mats, beautiful and fragrant woodwork in the room, and a spacious Japanese style bath. There's even a horigotatsu style table (tables with a hole underneath for your foot to rest), so you can feel completely relaxed throughout your stay. It really surpassed our expectations, the hosts did an amazing job recreating a slice of Japan in the middle of Berkeley. Thank you Zan and Rainbow, and hope to stay again some day!

Enjoy your own private room with separate entrance from the outside, small kitchen, fold out dining table, queen bed, and lots of natural light. Your private bathroom is adjoining, off a hallway with shared laundry between the studio and rest of the house.
Our newly renovated, secluded studio space has a queen sized bed with firm mattress, small fold out table and kitchen with sink, gas burners, small fridge, microwave, kettle, and french press for coffee. The room can easily accommodate two guests and is well set up to cook breakfast, lunch, or a simple dinner. The adjoining full bath includes a walk-in shower and is stocked with fresh towels and toiletries. We do have an additional charge of $30/ night for a second guest.
Our location in sunny Berkeley feels remote and tranquil even though we are very close to public transportation. We are 3 blocks away from the Ashby Bart stop which runs day and night into San Francisco, downtown Berkeley, and both the SFO and Oakland airports. There is also an AT Transit bus (#49) stop at the corner of ashby & king street. The quiet tree lined streets, lovely Victorian & Edwardian homes, and a bustling elementary school create a joyful and diverse neighborhood. There are several restaurants and cafes and the famous Berkeley Bowl grocery store within a short walk from the house.

  • Wonderful cottage in a tranquil relaxing space. Laura and Kiran left us great tips on activities and places to eat as well as local stops to shop at. Will definitely stay here again!

    Corey2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful decor and location. Surrounded by fragrant plants and nature (multiple bird species, deer, butterflies, and a friendly cat or two).

    Christopher2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • The cottage exceeded all expectations. Everything from the tea and muffins, to waking up in the forest to the sound of the brook. We also saw deer and were visited by two very nice kitties. The location is very quiet and quaint. I recommend Laura & Kiran’s place to ANYONE looking to explore the Bay Area !

    Tim2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place for a quiet getaway. The hot tub, serene location and view of the Bay Bridge were all highlights. 100% recommend!

    Sam2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Super clean, very spacious, only thing I didn't think of that's no where else is the area has a lot of bugs. Not a huge problem inside, but there is a nearby Creek close enough that you can hear flowing water.

    Joshua2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Laura & Kiran's place well exceeded my expectations! It is truly a sanctuary amongst the trees. The hot tub is truly magical. They have created a very intentional and cozy space for their guests full of thoughtful touches! I hope to return! Thanks for everything!

    Tameron2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • The pictures do not do any justice at all. If you're contemplating between a few places in the area, this one is by far the one to experience! You will fall asleep to the sound of the creek right outside your window and wake up to chirping birds. I don't think I heard any other sounds unless I created them. There is also an incredible view of the sunset from the porch/hot tub or from the bed through the windows. Laura was so great and easy to communicate with. Even pushed my check out time so I could enjoy a few extra hours before heading out. What a great find for a last minute road trip!

    Cassie2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Laura and Kiran were fantastic hosts! If you’re looking for peace and quiet, then look no further. Cannot believe this gem is only a 25 minute train ride from SF. We will definitely try to stay here again next time we’re in town

(Thanks to that, I was able to visit friends in SF for the afternoon.) The room is comfortable, well furnished, and located close to BART. It's also walking distance from Whole Foods and Berkeley Bowl---popular grocery stores. I wold stay again!

  • Mishaa’s space is really lovely. The cottage-style bedroom is a sweet little backyard retreat in the heart of Berkeley. Great balance between location and peacefulness in terms of a shorter term stay. Mishaa was responsive and a great artist!

All new modern studio of impeccable Euro-style design. Compact and efficient use of space, with gorgeous details, this place includes all one would need to live comfortably for a week or months. One of five units in an Elegant Victorian circa 1896 and located in West Berkeley, this historic home is very quiet, and has lush gardens including patio seating and outdoor grill facilities. A beautiful studio with character, charm, history, and modern appeal. You will simply love this place!
Quiet and private, an inspiring place for vacation, study, sabbatical, retreat, or work. The modern sofa includes a pull down Murphy bed with a comfortable queen sized real mattress. (This is not a "sofa bed". It is a bed over a sofa.) The kitchen is stocked with all supplies including a gas stove, refrigerator, gourmet cookware, table settings, a variety of beverage / bar ware, and utensils. There is a coffee maker, toaster, and blender. The modern closet with interior lighting has 6 dresser drawers and mirrored doors. There is a clothes iron and board for your convenience.
This is a diverse neighborhood of families, with several schools and many parks are in the area. It is one block from University Avenue, and a few blocks to the upscale 4th Street shopping and dining area. It is just blocks to Interstate 80 via University Avenue, and a great home base for visiting San Francisco, Napa and Sonoma Valleys, plus all that the Bay Area has to offer. International and top restaurants are within a short distance to this historic and beautiful building. There is a convenient grocery/food store 3 blocks from the house.

  • Diane and Chris have a wonderful space: it is clean, private, and stocked with everything you need for comfortable lodging. They were quick to communicate with me about details of my stay and offered generous hospitality during my visit. From advice on local transportation and places to eat to pleasant conversation, they were fantastic hosts. I highly recommend staying here when you are in the East Bay Area.

  • Cozy, clean, very comfortable. Wonderful hosts. I especially appreciated the lighting: several lamps as well as recessed, dimmable ceiling lights. The space was larger than I expected but take note if you are a tall person that the ceiling is quite low. Fridge, microwave, and a great shower. I would definitely book another stay.

Our newly remodeled 200 sq ft tiny house is a perfect Berkeley retreat. It is walking distance to BART into San Fran. (1 mile), Cal campus (1 mile), Gourmet Ghetto (world-class cuisine), Berkeley Rose Garden, and the Berkeley Marina (1.5 miles). You’ll love our place because of the light, the comfy bed, and the coziness (it's a tiny house!). It's perfect for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, and small families. We have 2 queen size beds including one in a relaxing loft space
The tiny house is a separate small space, 200 total square feet, located in the back of the main residence. There is a shower, loft bed (please note the loft ceiling is low for those who don't like tight spaces) , Murphy bed and kitchenette in the house. We share a portion of the backyard. The tiny house has a private gated entrance and separate patio. The space was inspired by the tiny house movement. We hope to provide a lovely, relaxing space that fills all the needs of our guests.
The tiny house resides in the coveted NorthBrae district of Berkeley. It is centrally located in a quiet residential neighborhood. Plenty of street parking is available with no permit required. The neighborhood is quiet and peaceful. We are walking distance to amazing restaurants, coffee, grocery markets and BART. Cal campus is 2 miles away or one stop on BART.
  • Beautiful unique experience! Nice family oriented neighborhood. The tiny house has all the amenities needed and more. I would visit again and again!!

    Alex2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • A cozy well appointed tiny house in north Berkeley that was perfect for us (one grownup and one preteen who could sleep in the loft). Coming from Europe, we appreciated that there were some shops and a nice cafe in walking distance; we walked to BART too.

  • Very clean and cozy tiny home in a quaint, quiet backyard in Berkeley. Everything you can possibly want or need is a short walk or drive from the home. Great for just staying in and chilling all day, or just crashing after a day of exploring the Bay Area.

  • This tiny home is the perfect place, in the perfect neighborhood! We love the Bay and were so happy to be back, especially at the tiny house. The location is great for walking and enjoying the beauty of the bay, close to eateries and Salano Ave. - quiet, relaxing and beautiful neighborhood. Tony and Sonja were wonderful hosts! Their property is well thought out and maximizes every bit of space. The backyard your own little oasis. They also shared their bball hoop with our son! Such a thoughtful gesture. We will certainly be back!

For work or play, enjoy a stay in this charming spacious craftsman home. Large (1000+ sq ft) with wood floors, carpet in the bedroom for added quiet, and enchanting front yard. Walking distance to UC Berkeley Campus and BART. Easy parking. 5 min drive to most of Berkeley. 15 min walk to Caffe Trieste, Paisan Restaurant, Kirala Sushi, and others. Good for couples, solo and business travelers. Owners live separately in the back part of the house. Security cam. No handrail on steps.
Guests who stay here are delighted by how large, inviting and sunny the space is. They say the photos don't do it justice. It's a 1914 Craftsman house done up bright which gives it an airy yet substantial feeling. It's both cozy and spacious. I encourage you to read the reviews. LGBTQ friendly.
The house is in a nice residential neighborhood. Quiet. Good for walking. Some visitors like to walk 20 minutes or so to downtown Berkeley or UC Berkeley's campus for the pleasure of seeing the town. Berkeley has many lovely gardens in the residential areas, particularly in North Berkeley.

A small brown shingled creekside cottage is located in a sunny rear garden with lots of birds and a little dog. A bathroom extension was just added to the cottage. The cottage is located within walking distance to restaurants, coffee shops. 15 minute walk to North Berkeley BART.
My home and cottage stand on the last remaining parcels of Christiana tract, a former Berkeley farm which is along Cordornices Creek.. It is a place of restful beauty with a large cottonwood tree adjacent to the cottage and two great redwoods across the creek. For solitude, peace and quiet, and a bit of wilderness in a busy world, it is perfect. It is also only 13 houses from coffee shops, fine dining, Berkeley Natural Foods and transportation.
I love the variety of my neighborhood and also being able to walk to everything. It's an active multicultural neighborhood with bustling businesses and a variety of ages,. At the corner one can buy coffee, bagels, out-standing sweets, and even organic groceries. There is a beautiful nursery that is a treat to visit.. Curtis and Gilman is the crossroads of the Ohlone trail which is the name of the BART path and is filled daily with bicyclists, commuters, walkers, strollers, people exercising and dog walkers. There are several neighborhood restaurants - La Limes is a high- end excellent restaurant. There is a delicious Sushi Place.. Coming in late March is the Westbrae Bier Garden with the Brazilian Food Truck. They will serve beer and wine Tri tip. Also various food trucks will be there weekly.. The Berkeley Natural Grocery is across from La Limes. If my guests want to visit Berkeley, and the University, it is 20 minutes away. This is the perfect location. San Francisco is also very close, about 40 minutes by Bart. Once in San Francisco, One can explore the city neighborhoods or visit the Museums using public transportation. Po

It had everything we needed (including a full kitchen which is nice) and was very private despite the fact that the hosts live on the bottom level....it still felt like your own space. I would highly recommend!!

Detached cottage set in backyard with fruit trees and vegetable garden. Queen mattress and queen sofa bed. OUTDOOR-ONLY shower and sink and a modern "outhouse" with flushing toilet. Blocks away from famed Shattuck Avenue, a mecca for foodies. Fridge, microwave, and coffeemaker. This is a rustic space for adventurous guests who don't mind quirks.
A comfortable fusion of modern and rustic, this one-room detached cottage is set in a backyard with beautiful fruit trees and a vegetable garden. Super comfortable queen-sized bed. Two skylights fill the space with lights. The outdoor shower and sink are fully functional, as well as the modern "outhouse" with flushing toilet. If you do not like the idea of an outdoor bathroom, this place is not for you--there is no indoor bathroom! We provide organic shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. The cottage also has a coffee maker, coffee grinder, electric kettle, mini-fridge, ironing board, iron, and hairdryer. There is usually plenty of free street parking. There is no central heat or air, just a fan and space heaters. There are no screens on the windows, though mosquitoes are not a problem in this area. You may see cobwebs! Again, this space is rustic. This neighborhood is residential, very convenient, and walkable. Definitely walk up to Shattuck Avenue to experience the food mecca! We're blocks away from famed "Gourmet Ghetto," a top destination for foodies. Many guests stay with us when dining at Chez Panisse, Berkeley's most famous restaurant. It is a 20-30 minute walk to UC Berkeley's campus. This is a friendly, quiet neighborhood close to amazing markets and restaurants. The North Berkeley BART station is a 15 minute walk or 3 minute Lyft ride away. What you get - 1 queen bed - Private outdoor-only bathroom (shower, sink, toilet) in shared backyard -Organic shampoo, conditioner, body wash - Coffee maker, microwave, electric kettle, & mini-fridge - Ironing board and iron - Blowdryer - Space heaters and fan - Wifi Note: The backyard is shared, and we have two young children, so no smoking outdoors (never smoking indoors) and no loud music after 8pm, please. It is never a problem to arrive LATER than the 3pm check in time, even late into the night. If you plan on arriving EARLIER than 3pm or need to check out later than 10am, check with us. We are friendly, easy-to-talk-to people with lots of suggestions for what to see, do, eat.
Excellent location close to food and shopping.
  • Exceptionally pleasant stay. The warmest of welcomes and very clear and fast on communication. The little cottage is immaculate, comfortable, stylish and equipped with everything you need. Berkeley is a wonderful city - it's eclectic, full of culture: art, theater, music (including lots of street music), a great place to rent a bike and explore our huge regional park or the coastline along San Francisco Bay. There's hiking nearby, jogging trails as well. We love our coffee, fresh bread, cheeses, artisanal beer and farmers markets. Downtown San Francisco is about forty minutes away via our rapid transit system, BART. Our home is located in a quiet, tree-lined residential neighborhood near the UC Berkeley Campus. We walk everywhere - downtown, to different shopping districts. We also have plenty of street parking.

The coffee, tea, wine and beer in the mini fridge and bowls of fruit and candy were much appreciated. Susan is on site for any help you may need while in Berkeley, but out of sight if you are familiar. The space is walkable to the Gourmet Ghetto and it’s fine restaurants. It is also walkable to Solano Avenue shops and markets. The space was warmly decorated and it had everything you will need to enjoy your time in Berkeley. Thank you for a great stay.

Beautiful backyard cottage with modern interior and green roof. A posh tiny house experience! Comfortable, lofted double bed, with new, larger sofa and TV underneath. The kitchenette has a microwave, toaster, coffee machine, electric kettle and mini fridge. There is no stove. Restaurants and coffee shops in easy walking distance. About 1 mile from campus and main downtown area. Bart is also about a mile away, so it's a quick hop to San Francisco. zoning permit: ZCSTR2018-0135
The cottage is modern, clean, and also on the small side. While it could sleep three people, it's probably better suited for 1-2. Please note there is an extra person fee of $25 per night for a third guest, as well as a two night minimum for three guests. There is a one-time extra $30 charge for two guests sleeping separately due to the higher volume of laundry. The bed is lofted, only accessible by stairs.
Some nearby places to eat The Homemade Café is a popular breakfast spot (two blocks away on the corner of Dwight and Sacramento). Mo’Joe Café has great coffee and serves breakfast and lunch (one block away on Sacramento and Blake). Caffe Chiave is also a great coffee shop, about a 12 minute walk (at the corner of Dwight and San Pablo). I’ve really enjoyed the food and atmosphere at Longbranch Saloon (on the same block as Caffe Chiave). Closed Mondays Le Pho is a Vietnamese restaurant directly across the street from Caffe Chiave, and has come highly recommended by guests. Standard Fare is wonderful for casual, yet delectable breakfast and lunch. It’s owned by a former Chez Panisse chef (located on the corner of 8th and Carleton). La Marcha is a wonderful tapas bar on San Pablo, near University. La Capilla has great tacos and burritos. It’s on University close to San Pablo St. Eureka! has also come highly recommended from a guest and it’s in downtown Berkeley. Creekwood is a new restaurant serving Cal-Italian fare. The food is fresh and delicious. It’s located at 3121 Sacramento St, by 67th and is closed Mondays. Teni East Kitchen is my new favorite restaurant! The chef owner worked at Burma Superstar for several years and just opened her own place. It’s located at 4015 Broadway in Oakland and is open daily for lunch and dinner. Kirala and Kirala 2 are my favorite places for sushi in Berkeley. Kirala 2 is located in the Epicurious Garden in the “Gourmet Ghetto” on Shattuck in North Berkeley and is more of a take-out place, while Kirala is a restaurant on Ward and Shattuck in South Berkeley. Berkeley Bowl West is a great grocery store (on Heinz, near 9th Street, a 4 min. drive). Cheeseboard Pizza and Chez Panisse are two well known Berkeley eateries, both located on Shattuck. Expect long lines for the famous pizza! I love Summer Kitchen for excellent wood fired pizzas and little to no wait. It’s located on College Avenue, off of Ashby.

  • My stay at Nina's backyard bungalow was excellent. The space was beautifully and thoughtfully laid out. My stay was restful and close to downtown Berkeley. This spot had everything I needed. Nina also added the sweet touches of fresh flowers and a stocked cabinet with snacks and toiletries. There were so many touches that made this stay enjoyable.

  • I loved staying in Nina's cottage. Everything is as described and pictured. It was perfect for one person but would be great for two as well. Highly recommend, would stay there again.

  • Secluded cottage by James allows for a private and quiet stay right in the heart of Berkeley. We were lucky enough to have the parking work out for our 2 cars during the Martin Luther Day long weekend right on the property thus avoiding the 2 hour street limit drama. We as a couple also enjoyed the noise-free privacy afforded by the distance of the apartment from the street. Jim has thoughtfully provided all the necessary things you would want in a space. Ample heating for the bedroom, an extra space heater for living areas, a nice spacious kitchen, and perfectly smooth sheets to sleep in, which would immediately make you feel at home. Give the cottage a try, and you won't regret it!

  • Very glad we picked this place to stay in while we spent my birthday here in Berkeley. Such a unique and charming little cottage! We instantly felt sooo cozy once we checked in and seeing the rain fall on the skylights was an added bonus. The small touches like the heated mattress and the umbrella - which we were so thankful he provided because it was pouring and we were exploring downtown on foot - made our stay even better! We are thinking about booking again in the future!

    Emily2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay at this cute and very comfy cottage. Everything you would need is there. The location in Berkeley is great, walking distance to downtown area. Communication with James was always easy with quick responds.

  • The house was so comfy and clean. It’s a little bit cold at night but the heating mattress helped us out. James was so nice and helpful, she even drove to help me with the light. Such a wonderful experience and I definitely will recommend to my friend who also studies at UC Berkley

  • Karen & Mike’s place was so perfect for our 3 day stay in Berkeley/Marina. My husband is disable and the access to Karen & Mike’s was just fine making it easy for my husband to roll in with his walker. Having Trader Joe’s in a walking distance was so perfect for us to prepare a few delicious intimate dinners. We absolutely enjoyed it! and hope to comeback in the near future! Thank you!

    La Casita DF2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • The location is very close to the BART station and there is a large shopping center right in front of the airbnb. The room was very clean and comfortable. The gentle sunshine and the chirping of birds in the morning allowed me to wake up pleasantly every day. When I opened the door, a lovely, friendly cat in the garden was sleeping peacefully. Check-in was also easy and smooth. Karen was a very kind host. Despite the house rules they were willing to respond to irregular requests for check-in. Because of my mistake, the room making team accidentally disposed of my things in the refrigerator because of my early check-in. When I returned that evening I was very upset and mailed Karen a bit rudely and angrily. Even at that time, Karen responded immediately and was really kind and sincere. She took care of the situation to my complete satisfaction with professionalism and empathy. Karen, I'm sorry to make you feel uncomfortable at that time after your kindness and consideration. One more time. Karen, thank you very much.

Cosy, clean, sunny guest room in small downstairs flat with garden access. Simple breakfasts available on request. Historic home undergoing gradual renovations. Rustic charm and lots of pets.
Stay comfortably in your simple, well-appointed bedroom in my quiet flat in a peaceful neighborhood. I live here, and you will stay as my guest. Convenient location for Oakland/Berkeley/Emeryville; close to freeways I-580, I-880, I-80/Bay Bridge, Hwy 24, and Hwy 13, and BART (Ashby and MacArthur stations.) Local advice freely given. Loaner bicycle available.
The house is located on a Bicycle Boulevard in a quiet, tucked away, family-oriented neighborhood that is undergoing something of a renaissance. Houses are quickly being bought at high price and remodeled by bourgeois newcomers, but something of the old neighborhood remains-- cracked sidewalks, chain-link fencing, and litter are part of the local texture. Take a stroll down the block to see babies and families walking along with workers, families, loiterers, commuters, homeless people, kids at play, teens on bikes, and varied and interesting gardens, all enjoying the sunshine (or fog.) Historic Oakland residential neighborhood with beautiful architecture. The Tuesday Berkeley Farmers' Market is a 3-minute walk down the street. Sweet Adeline is a superior neighborhood bakery. NB This is a very typical Oakland neighborhood. Guests may or may not feel comfortable walking alone late at night. Also, the neighborhood is mainly residential and somewhat "off the beaten track" and may be better suited to car/cab/bicycle transportation than walking, although many guests have been very happy to get around by foot.
  • The room was amazing. Very clean, comfortable bed, black out curtains were a plus. There’s a space heater in the room (and the bathroom) which I appreciated on cold days. John was a great host and very responsive through text.

    Tyler2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • First off the host was great. Fast responses and friendly. This place was awesome! The location is nice and quiet. It is located close to many great places to eat, hang out and just lounge around. Finding parking was very easy. The BART was a 5 minute drive away and able to get into San Francisco with ease. 10/10 would recommend to anyone looking for a nice, relaxing getaway.

    Stephen2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • D’s place is in a great location - minutes walk to the nearest BART and only 15-20 minutes to San Francisco. The neighborhood was old, but very quiet with friendly neighbors. The unit included great amenities like a small kitchenette and smart TV with streaming services and available WiFi. The unit being older was very cold but D provided heaters which corrected that issue. If you’re looking for cute, economical, affordable, and cozy place to stay for a night or two while you visit Berkeley or SF, this is the place for you.

Our newly built private cottage has its own bathroom, reading nook with comfy chair, new 27" Apple monitor for streaming videos, microwave, small fridge, and full-size bed. A REAL bed.
This sweet space is cozy but filled with southern light. You'll have access to a big yard with real grass (drought resistant!), lemon tree, lime tree, apple tree, rosemary bushes, jasmine, and a brick patio for al fresco dining or morning coffee. In addition to the fridge and microwave, you'll find a new coffee maker, fresh coffee, tea, hot chocolate and oatmeal. We'll make sure there's milk, and most importantly, a local craft brew to welcome you!
We're right on the Berkeley/Albany border, three houses from the corner of Solano. Solano Avenue is our main street, lined with restaurants, bars, salons, shops, grocery stores, a theatre, and cafes.
  • Perfect location for the activities we planned; quiet and clean; with an excellent neighborhood that boasts unique shopping and restaurant options all within walking distance! Exceptional lodging for one or two people who enjoy warm hospitality and comfy urban stays.

    Mary2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • This was our fist time staying at an Airbnb so we didn’t exactly know what to expect. Our stay was very pleasant. The cottage is located in the back yard of a charming house on a beautiful street. We arrived late after our hosts retired for the evening. We where able to get the key to the cottage from the lockbox hanging on the yard gate using the access code they provided. The way into the yard through the fence is a bit narrow due to a garden planter. This was no problem for us, but might be difficult to navigate with larger luggage. The cottage was spacious, charming and immaculately clean. We always found parking right in front of the house on all three days of our stay. We met our lovely host family as we left every morning at the same time they took there children to school. The house is walking distance from the charming shopping and restaurant village along Solano Ave. I would suggest eating at Zachary's Pizza, which is my favorite pizza parlor in the world. UC Berkeley is only a 15 minutes drive. I would definitely consider staying here again.

  • Stephen and Marin's place was really lovely for what I needed. I was in town for a week-long residency and was in meetings from 9 am to 9 pm daily. It was perfectly quiet, clean, plenty of parking, plenty of hot water for showers, and close to everything. Note that the entrance is a little tight if you have large bags as I did, but you can make do. Thank you again!

Architect designed garden cottage located in central Berkeley near the University, the entertainment district, famous 4th St. shopping district, the "gourmet ghetto" and Bart. Clean, beautiful, private, quiet, private entry and parking.
The space is a beautiful light filled large L-shaped room located within a private garden. The garden can be seen from the bed, but the garden viewing window is completely private...no one sees in. To be private in the bath area, We've recently added a room divider. It's optional and easy to place wherever you want to create an additional private space. . If you choose to use this, no one can see you in the bathing area. The W.C. has a door that closes and has good ventilation. We've recently added shades that completely block out the outside, but when not pulled down allow the room to be filled with light and a view of the garden. There's no kitchen, but simple food can be prepared. There's a fridge, dishes, a microwave and you can prepare coffee and tea. The bed has been recently changed to a queen sized bed.
The neighborhood is Central / West Berkeley. There are restaurants within walking distance. The University is a couple miles away. The entertainment district is about a mile as is the famous shopping district, 4th Street. The Marina is a beautiful place for walks as is Tilden Park. As is true with all of California, having a car makes things much easier, but isn't completely necessary. We're about 15 minutes from the happening "Uptown" part of Oakland and 30-45 minutes from SF depending on traffic. Bart is about a 15 minute walk.
  • What a wonderfully charming and comfortable cottage! Photos do not do this place justice. Hands down, the sweetest spot to stay in the Bay Area. Polly is a fabulous host and we can't wait to return! xx

Great southwest exposure with 3 bridge views, SF Bay, in a very safe and charming neighborhood in wonderful North Berkeley. Easy walk to Gourmet Ghetto, about 20 min walk to UC campus. Shared bath. Room has a couch and desk as well as bed. WiFi.
Big old Berkeley brown shingle cluttered, messy house, with 2 friendly cats. Room feels like grandma's sewing room, but without the grandma (yet) or any actual sewing getting done. Very casual environment. No smoking, of course, and respect for quiet hours a given. You have a shared bath, and can use second bathroom. if that one's occupied. It's myself and my long-term housemate/tenant; we both work at UC Berkeley. My college-age son is home summers and vacations as well. I've lived in the area all my life, so I'm a good resource for questions about restaurants, arts, things to do, etc. North Berkeley is a wonderful, leafy, safe neighborhood, and the food choices around town are beyond amazing, some of the best anywhere! I may be able to help with ride to/from BART sometimes if you need it. Antique double-bed with firm modern mattress, sofa could sleep one as well. Towels, sheets furnished. We'd love to introduce you to our great town! Perfect spot for visiting the UC Berkeley campus!
North Berkeley is home to the world-famous Gourmet Ghetto, including the iconic start of the new food movement, Chez Panisse. The nearby CheeseBoard is considered tied for best cheese shop in America, and serves a daily vegetarian pizza, and great pastries. The original Peet's coffee is also there. Just up the hill we have the lovely Berkeley Rose Garden and Codornices Park. Campus is also close, with all it has to offer, including the option of daily use at the Rec Sports Facility. Nearby Solano Ave has even more shopping, restaurants, a great bookstore, etc. Full of trees and very eclectic architecture - my house is over 100 years old!
  • Kim was quick to respond and very amenable. Beautiful home, amazing location!! So close to the Berkeley rose gardens/trails.

A private in-law studio with own entrance close to everything: Ashby Bart (0.6 miles), Bay Bridge on-ramp, Emeryville, Rockridge, Berkeley, Telegraph Ave, and UC Berkeley. It's a cozy, clean, and minimalist space with a queen bed, new modern bathroom, and kitchenette (fridge, kitchen sink, kettle, microwave, and counter space). The kitchenette is stocked with flatware, plates, mugs, glasses, bowls, coffee cone and filters, and dish soap. Plenty of parking on street directly outside of in-law.
  • If you’re looking for a great stay when traveling to the Bay Area, Nicks place is a great location! There are many great local restaurants in the area and about a 30 minute drive to San Francisco.

    Elijah2020-02-10T00:00:00Z
  • Exactly as advertised. Comfy and clean with all the basics and a few extra touches. Plenty of street parking, convenient neighborhood. The upstairs neighbors make some noise during the day but it’s not that bad. The shower lives up to the hype!

  • Everything was as expected. Good location and value. Appreciated the hosts timely responses

    Chris2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • This place was in a great location near BART, had easy access to Berkeley and Oakland. The space was nice and clean. Perfect for not needing to be in the room for long periods of time. The bathroom was very upscale and nice. A little cold in the evening and the small heater wasn’t working, but all in all a nice place.

    Matt2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • If planning to visit San Francisco, this was an amazing place to stay. Extremely clean, close to the bridge, a lot of things to do nearby. Definitely will book again!

  • Everything was as stated. Host was very responsive and accommodating. The apartment was clean and walking distance from Bart. There was also a bus that stops in-front of the apartment. I would definitely consider staying at Nicolas’s place again in the future.

This studio retreat provides you with a relaxing haven indoors and out. The unit is newly painted & remodeled, and fully private, with a beautifully updated bathroom, plus a kitchenette for beverage and light meal preparation. This is a perfect spot for friends, a couple, or solo traveler who wants clean, classy, comfortable accommodation. Nestled in a safe neighborhood and just steps away from shops, restaurants, and transportation, it is truly one of the best locations in the East Bay!
During this "Shelter-In-Place Special" you'll get a sparkling-clean, luxury space at Student Prices! NOTE: We want you to know that we prioritize your health and safety. We continue to consult resources from the CDC to align our cleaning standards with current official guidance for hotels. As an additional safeguard to every guest during Shelter-In-Place, we are blocking a minimum 48 hours between reservations to allow for extra-thorough cleaning and complete airing out of the space. This studio in-law unit is fully equipped for your vacation or business travel needs. The suite boasts an extremely comfortable queen-size bed. (Upon request, a twin-size air mattress can be added, too.) It is clean, bright, freshly painted, and newly furnished with ample closet space, fresh linens, and lots of fluffy towels. We recently upgraded the internet so you're sure to have blazing fast WiFi speeds. We've also added Amazon FireStick TV so you can watch your favorites from Netflix and a wide variety of other programing & music. You have your own small refrigerator, microwave, CrockPot Express cooker, and other "kitchenette" accessories for light snacks/beverages and basic meal preparation. During this period of COVID 19, we have modified our outdoor space so your unit has its own (not shared) outdoor seating area. During this time, the BBQ is off limits to guests. For parents of very young children, a Pack n' Play with optional changing table, bassinet, and other accessories is available upon request. However, during this time, we highly recommend bringing your own, if possible.
Albany is a safe, welcoming, and diverse community that borders on Berkeley to the south & east, the San Francisco Bay to the west, and El Cerrito to the north. NOTE: During Shelter-in-Place, not all shops/restaurants/services listed below are available. However, all grocery stores remain open, and many restaurants are open for take out meals. **Just steps from the house: All the shops and amenities of El Cerrito Plaza, including Starbuck's, Peet's, Trader Joe's Lucky's, CVS, Barnes & Nobles, a variety of restaurants (Italian, Japanese, Chinese, Mexican, etc). **Within a few blocks: several local pubs, additional restaurant options, and a bowling alley **A 12-minutue walk (or 3-min drive): lands you on Solano Avenue amidst a wide variety of shops, boutiques, restaurants, and coffee shops with local flare. **Just over a mile away: Point Isabel Recreation Shoreline offers a spectacular spot to walk along the Bay and watch the sunset, with views of the Golden Gate, San Francisco, and Mt. Tamalpais. **Less than 2 miles away: you'll find the "Gourmet Ghetto" area of Berkeley, home to the renowned Chez Panisse Restaurant and many other local favorites. The world-class University of California is just blocks from there.

All are welcome at our beautiful peaceful garden studio. It is the back of our historic home, the oldest standing structure in Berkeley! We are close to BART with easy access to SF and UC Berkeley and two blocks from Berkeley’s famous Fourth Street shopping area with unique boutiques, great restaurants, and coffee houses. Entry is private and the garden is yours to enjoy. The mini fridge, microwave, fresh ground Peet's, tea, and Laurie's famous granola will help you feel right at home.
Important note: We have always been very serious about our cleaning, maintaining a 5.00 review score. However, in early March we attended a workshop on how to properly clean and disinfect touchable surfaces to prevent transmission of Corona Virus. We are now treating our touchable surfaces with 99% alcohol and bleach-based solutions between guests. On to happier details..... Our studio accommodates two adults comfortably. The main room is 23' x 12' and the bathroom is large. The entrance is private and windows look out onto our peaceful backyard garden. South-facing windows and high ceilings create an airy sunny vibe. There is business class high speed wifi and cable TV. Our guests love our Leesa memory foam mattress fitted with down comforter and plenty of extra pillows and blankets. (Note: This is a great supportive mattress for bad backs.) The kitchenette station is equipped with microwave, mini fridge, and dishes. It is appropriate for preparing breakfast, lunch or heating up leftovers for dinner. It includes an electric kettle, Chemex coffee pot, assorted coffees, teas, cocoa, soup, and some condiments. We provide some additional snacks, cold drinks, a yogurt, milk for coffee, and Laurie's famous homemade granola. The bathroom has a large immaculate claw foot bath tub/shower combo. Towels, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, a hair dryer, and iron are all available. This is an old house but not a drafty cold old house. The morning sun streams into the bank of south-facing windows. Heat is controlled by a Nest thermostat modulated by motion sensors that keep the place at a comfortable temperature when you are in. We hope you will enjoy the garden patio seating area during your stay. Smoking is fine in the backyard but not in the house. There is plenty of free street parking nearby. This is one of the few residential areas in Berkeley where extended free parking is available. This is also a safe neighborhood! You can relax and enjoy walking to BART, strolling to Fourth Street, or walking to or from your car in the evening. Note: We appreciate cleanliness when we travel so we go the extra mile to provide you with a very clean place in which you can truly feel comfortable. We are going all out and wiping down EVERY touchable surface with disinfectant solution between guests during the COVD-19 global outbreak. It takes a lot of time, but that's what we would want if we were your guests.
We are on a quiet residential street but two short blocks from Fourth Street, the premiere shopping and dining area in Berkeley. Outdoors: This is a terrific launch point for visiting some of the premiere non-touristy outdoor gems in our area. The Berkeley Marina is less than a mile away. Enjoy Bay vistas as you walk the short trails or opt to join the Bay Trail, a 500 mile trail along the edge of the Bay. Laurie, an avid sailor, would be happy to steer you towards a sailing or kayaking adventure. Just give us a heads up before you arrive. Just to our East, Tilden Park and the East Bay Regional Parks have great trails, from one mile easy walks to a Bay vista to some seriously challenging cross country hikes. We have books in your room on local hikes around the Bay as well as the Point Reyes area.
  • Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay! Every thoughtful detail was beautiful both inside and out.

  • A great place to stay in West Berkeley! I would definitely stay here again. So convenient to walk to 4th street for shops and restaurants. All of the amenities provided by Ron and Laurie were so thoughtful and much appreciated! It was great to have some complimentary snacks on hand. The only downside was the noise from the trains, but ear plugs were provided.

  • Ron & Laurie’s place exceeds all expectations! They are such friendly and thoughtful hosts, they have thought of every detail that a traveler may need and truly go above and beyond for their guests. • This spot is a nice, small apartment behind the owner’s house. It’s located close to a lot of shopping and dining which was nice. We didn’t spend a lot of time in the space due to being in town for wedding festivities, but it suited us well as a relaxing space in the midst of our busy schedule, offering a cozy place to sleep, get ready, rest, and even some cooking in the kitchen. Stephen was very hospitable, as well, and communicated well with us.

Fresh and cozy studio space, in safe and walkable neighborhood. The studio is a detached backyard space with private entrance from the driveway with guest parking.
The studio is a 150 square foot space with a comfy queen-sized bed, tiny kitchenette (mini-fridge, microwave, electric kettle, Keurig coffee maker, and toaster), and bathroom with a shower. The studio includes a small dresser with a few drawers, and has a hair dryer and iron with an ironing mat. There is Wi-Fi and television with Netflix. There is a small patio with an outdoor dining table and seating.
We are located in the Thousand Oaks neighborhood of Albany, on the border with Berkeley, Kensington, and El Cerrito. We are a 5 to 10 minute walk to some great restaurants, bakeries, cafes, and shops at Colusa Circle and along Solano Avenue. On Sunday mornings, you can walk a couple of blocks to our Farmer’s Market for locally prepared foods and treats, fresh produce, and live music. Albany Aquatic Center is located about a block away, and has indoor and outdoor pools for lap swimming and recreational swimming. We are also a few blocks from the Ohlone Greenway, a popular paved trail for walking, running, and biking that runs from Berkeley to Richmond. Tilden Regional Park, a favorite place of ours to hike and enjoy nature, is located about a 10-minute drive up the hill.
  • My boyfriend and I really enjoyed our stay! The space is small (although it was perfect for our needs) and very clean and thoughtfully put together. Jeni and Skye were helpful, communicative hosts and we would be happy to stay here again on another trip to the Bay Area.
