Deborah’s Beach House is the most magical place we’ve ever stayed. It was like Swiss family Robinson meet Dr Doolittle’s house in paradise! The jungle surroundings and the ocean front and the magic of the house were dream like. The beach and the ocean were private and beautiful and perfect for swimming. The animals were really fun from the geckos and tree frogs to the hermit crabs on the beach. To the parrots in the morning, the brown pelicans on the waves, the agouti that came every day at 5 PM and the howler monkeys calling out every morning. It was absolutely fantastic! Massi’s place is absolutely gorgeous and worth staying at if you’re in the South Pacific zone of Costa Rica. The casita is lovely and the ocean view is just spectacular. Although the neighborhood is on the larger side, the casita is in a very private gated development so it is very safe and quiet. Ojochal is beautiful and perfectly situated with amenities close by and stunning beaches and great restaurants. The only thing to know is that the road going to the casita is not great so you definitely need a 4WD with good tires as Massi does say in his write up. And best to arrive for the first time during the day so you can find it as is quite hard in the dark! But absolutely worth it for the stunning scenery and do visit the spectacular waterfall right on the property itself!

The house and location were superb. The directions were incomplete. There was no warning regarding how bad the road there was. The road, Punta Mala Arriba, is a true mountain road with sheer drop offs of hundreds of feet and in some places extremely narrow. Not only do you need a 4x4 but off road tires and Low gear. The Municipal Highway department was repairing the road and improved it greatly. During our first harrowing drive up, we asked ourselves, “What the hell have we gotten ourselves into?” From the Highway it is approximately a 7 mile drive and will take you 45 to 60 minutes the first time you drive it; 35 to 40 minutes thereafter once you are accustomed to it. You will eventually come to a “crossroads “ with a sign on the right saying Serenity Gardens. Take a very hard left. Do not try to enter driveway on the right side; it is a 45 degree plus incline, stay left. The beauty of this location is indescribable and the Tikos are loving and kind. Neighbors WONDERFUL
