Loved my stay at this beautiful machiya in Kyoto. It felt like living as a local, both at home and the nearby surroundings. The bedroom is bright and beautiful, the wooden onsen with garden view is the perfect way to wind down in the evening. If you decide to stay here make sure to do the soba workshop as early as possible in your stay, it will come with useful local recommendations and way to experience the friendly and warm nature of the Japanese culture. One of the best Airbnb I ever stayed in. Will go back if I’ll have the chance.

This is my first time in Japan, and meeting the lovely yumi and harufumi at haruya in these two days was the best experience of this trip. This house and the owner and everyone I met are different, kind, warm and sincere. You can feel it from their smiles. And I was very lucky to join their yoga activities, which allowed me to meet new friends. By the way, there is also the lovely lily. This is awesome! You can feel the attention to detail of Yumi and Farufumi in the house. You can hear the sound of the stream, the sound of the leaves swaying, and the sound of various insects chirping at night. It really slows down time. I will come back with my loved ones if I have the chance!

Staying with the Kuchu family has truly been the highlight of my trip to Japan. The family is lovely and eager to help with anything, Yuki is very knowledgeable and flexible in his timings and the area is a beautiful local mountain scenery filled with antique houses in perfect condition. The meals served with the family were also perfect and the children were very friendly. Just be aware that the location is quite isolated so be sure to have a car or follow the bus timetable well, however I think the isolation contributes to the charm of the place and Yuki is always happy to help give you some instructions ! Amazing experience overall !

Kotomal was super kind ( so kind to lent her jacket to me because I was freezing during one of the evenings )and proactive everytime we needed assistance around the house . She has some great suggestions for food. The place is very easy to locate and right opposite a Family mart. You are sure to feel at home 🏠. She even took care to turn on the blanket warmers during a cold evening . The home is easily accessible by bus but takes 30 minutes from Kyoto station. I would definitely recommend it to anyone looking for a very authentic Japanese homestay in Kyoto.
