Family-friendly vacation rentals in Nagara River

Looked like the pictures. The only bad thing was that there was only one lock in the front door keeping anyone out.

We had a nice time in this apartment. It is spacious and is centrally located in Takayama. Everything was very clean and tidy.

Chie & Chris's place is located in a tiny, very quiet alley in the heart of Gion. There are several temples & shrines located within walking distance, & we found incredible restaurants nearby. They gave us clear instructions on what to tell the cab driver to get there, & self check-in was easy. The accomodations were pristinely clean. The master bedroom with a large Western style bed is upstairs, & the steps are steep which was no issue for us at all but might be for elderly, injured, or handicapped folks. My 6'5" husband had to be careful to duck under door frames because of his height but staying in a historic machiya was worth the small effort. Our 14-year-old son slept on a futon on the main level & loved it. Communication was excellent, & they gave us numerous recommendations for restaurants. There is a Lawson konbini & a grocery store close by, as well as a quaint bar across the alley. We loved being within walking distance of the action coupled with the quietness of the night.

We used it as a graduation trip for a group of four men and women!The room was equipped with all the daily necessities, and I had no problems!It became one of my best memories!

The house offers an authentic experience of a traditional Japanese home. Spacious, has spaces for guest room, living room, kitchen, bedroom, storage, dressing and a cute little backyard. Loved the bathroom amenities and enjoyed the bathing tub. The hosts were very kind and waited for us to arrive. They welcomed us in and walked us through all the amenities and operations in the house. They also showed us bus routes to all the popular Kyoto spots laid out on a map. They even provided a bike for our grocery runs etc. Everything we ended up needing was in the house, like umbrellas, full-length mirror, extra stools, washer-dryer. The backyard is smoking-friendly. Overall, very happy that we decided to stay at this property.

By far our favourite accommodation in Kyoto and Japan. We felt right at home in this stunning traditional style house. We were welcomed with a beautiful tea set and treats laid out on the Chabudai. The music playing on our arrival added to the serene atmosphere. The bath was so relaxing and the bath salts made it perfect to soak after a long day exploring Kyoto. Would highly recommend this accommodation for couples or adult families. We managed the stairs to the second level easily.

What a lovely place to stay ! Doesn't get any better for a homestay vacation. Close to the train station and with convenient parking available. Room was charming and had all the amenities needed for our week's stay including a PSP player and screen projector. The beach was a short 5 min walk away to enjoy beautiful sunsets. Definitely would recommend if you intend to rent a car to check out Kanazawa and the surrounding areas.

The response to messages was quick and very helpful. The surrounding environment was calm, and it was the perfect environment for refreshing. I want to use it again.

Shared bicycles can be rented next door for easy travel

We stayed at Toshie’s designer house for 4 nights. The architecturally fantastic home is in a quiet neighbourhood a short busride from Gakuenmae station, with quick train access to Nara, Kyoto and Osaka. Toshie picked us up from the station, which was appreciated as it might have been tricky to find the house ourselves. She gave us instructions for local transport and amenities within walking distance. Toshie is an exceptional host who is genuinely interested in her guests making sure they have an enjoyable stay. During our visit we needed medical attention and Toshie was extremely helpful with taking us to the hospital and pharmacy. We felt very safe having her as a translator. One night we were able to join Toshie and her husband for dinner and also met their daughter who has a ceramics studio in the house. Thank you Toshie for your hospitality, kindness and generosity. We had an absolutely wonderful time. I highly recommend this house for a unique base to explore the Nara area.

I used it with my family of five when I was traveling to Nagoya.It was close to Imaike Station, and it was convenient because it took about 10 minutes to get to the center of Nagoya by the Higashiyama Subway Line.The room was clean and my family of 5 had a relaxing stay!Thank you.✨

Yamano was a great host. Everything was as described and he was very helpful and responsive before and during our trip. Our family of 5 adults felt very comfortable in this property. There was a bus stop nearby as well as a few different train stations within walking distance. There was a convenience store nearby to get supplies. The location was nearby Arashiyama attractions, but in a quiet neighborhood area that felt more like home. If we ever end up headed their way again we would definitely stay with Yamano. The car service that Yamano set us up with was also very nice and worked well for getting to and from Kyoto Station as well as an 8hr tour.

The atmosphere of the surroundings and the dormitory was very good.Also, there were plenty of facilities, including a BBQ grill, and we enjoyed ourselves until the time we left.In addition, the bath and toilet were solidly new and clean, despite the retro atmosphere of the accommodation.I would definitely use it again in the future.

This house is lovely awesome and perfectly clean. Our stay was wonderful and more worth the price. The private onsen inside the tiny Japanese garden is beautiful. The location is very quiet, near the river and less 5 minutes by walk from the station and konbini. Everything you need is provided inside the house, so you don’t have to worry about

Amazing stay!! Absolutely beautiful villa with everything and more. The home is renovated with an amazing kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom upstairs. If I could give more than 5 stars I would!

Beautiful building in an awesome location for walking to the morning market and seeing old town Takayama. Would definitely stay here again if we are in Takayama.

We enjoyed our stay in this beautiful machiya so much. Perfectly located and within walkable distance of nearly everything you need. For 2 guests this home offers plenty of space, just mind your head if you're tall. The small garden is very calming. We do recommend it and will book again.

Reminded me of the first house I lived in in Japan: tatami floors, wooden fixtures, sliding doors... I felt like I was visiting a friend's grandmother's house! Must have been the smell of the wood. Spacious enough for a travel group to have private space as well as communal space. It's a bit of a hike from the train station but still walkable. Quaint, quiet residential neighborhood. Incredible value. Would definitely stay again.

Banri was a very helpful and kind host. His house is extremely beautiful and welcoming. I would love to stay there again.

Staying at Matt and Maya’s beautiful home was an absolute treat! The property exceeded expectations and was a wonderful tonic after six days in Tokyo. We caught the Shinkansen to Ueda and hired a car from the station, driving was super easy and having the freedom to explore the region was brilliant. Matt gave us great ideas for day trips, we saw castles,cherry blossoms and waterfalls, played in the snow and ate great food. As a host he was always responsive and helpful and we really did feel ‘at home’. We stayed four nights but wish we had stayed longer, I highly recommend a stay at Matt and Maya’s home if you want to get out and explore the Nagano region.

Lovely house nestled in a quiet neighbourhood of Nara yet still very close to main attractions - Marina made us feel very at home and a great combination of beautiful with all the mod cons! Thanks Marina for a great few days!
