House vacation rentals in Mount Desert Island

The house was perfect for us. Very clean and organized. Great host always responded in a timely manner. Was only about a 30 to 40 minute drive to Acadia National Park & Bar harbor, depending on traffic it could take longer. If we ever make it back to Maine I would definitely stay at the Higgins Retreat again. Thanks again Richard & Tina.

We felt like at home. The house is located in a private property with swimming pool and tennis courts. It’s very clean and very peaceful. Just a clarification about the description : there’s no bathroom in the basement. Then if you come with elderly people or very young kids, it could be annoying. If you like cooking, the kitchen is very well equipped. We´ll keep a very good memory of our stay in Ducktrap Retreat during the colorful foliage season.

My return visit to the Boathouse was even lovelier than I hoped it would be. The location can't be matched by anything else I've seen. I enjoyed a September visit with my dog and was lucky to have pristine weather. I lived a very simple and healthy outdoors life and came home the better for it. The Boathouse is true to its description: it is simple and rustic and uncomplicated but well-equipped, and is perfect for one-and-dog, or for two people. A little coming-and-going from the neighboring houses meant that I didn't feel isolated. Margaret is truly an exceptional and friendly host who communicates promptly and clearly. I almost hesitate to share "my" Boathouse location with too many of my back-home friends because it feels so intimate and special. I already want to be back there. I offer my deep thanks to Margaret and to the place that I could - briefly - call home.

If you’re looking to stay in Bar Harbor, this is the place! We felt very at home during our 1 week stay and walking to and from downtown Bar Harbor was easy and accessible. The house is also a 8 minute walk to the nearest grocery store so cooking your own home made meal was simple. We would definitely recommend this place to our friends and family and would stay here again!

I recently stayed with my family at this incredible Airbnb that exceeded all my expectations. This property offered a hot tub, a pool table, and a level of privacy and tranquility that made for a truly relaxing getaway. One of the highlights of our stay was being able to watch the northern lights from the hot tub – it was absolutely magical. We spent a week in Acadia, and the location was perfect, just 15-20 minutes from Bar Harbor or the nearest town. The hosts were very responsive, and the place was fantastic for families, being both kid and pet friendly. It was a week filled with unforgettable moments, and I can't recommend this place enough!

We loved the place! The house is cozy and roomy but feels secluded even though you are right at the entrance of the camp grounds. It is conveniently located a short drive to downtown bar harbor and Acadia NP so you aren’t wasting much time driving around. Highly recommended the place to couples/small families looking for a nice place to stay on MDI!

Great house for our family! Several family members came into town for a college graduation, it was perfect! Lots of room and the host was very easy to reach and was flexible.

This house has the perfect location for discovering Acadia National Park, with short drives to all the points of interest, being in the middle of the park.

So many great things to stay about this fantastic Airbnb: amazing location, gorgeous backyard, everything was clean and neat. The hosts had excellent communication and were responsive as questions came up. They had great recommendations for supermarkets, hikes, local restaurants. There were so many little things that showed attention to detail: sound machines in every room, jewelry bowls on nightstands, good quality cosmetics, detergent for the washing machine, etc. The house has 3 bedrooms: all the linens were clean and neat. The one thing to keep in mind is that the third bedroom was smaller and had less space than the other two with no furniture - this would be perfect for a family with kids but was not ideal for 3 friends traveling since not all the bedrooms were exactly equitable. Overall, we had an amazing experience - it was such a pleasure to stay there.

What an amazing place! Caroline’s home was perfect for our family vacation. It had everything we needed and more. It’s on the quiet side of the island and an easy drive to all the great attractions. We were struck by the beauty of the place from our first step into the Boat House! It was beautiful inside and out! We soaked in all the beauty by stargazing at night in the adirondack chairs, and catching the sunrise each morning! We loved the sound of the water lapping against the rocks, and the distant sounds of the lobster boats heading out to sea! We loved how close it was to the Schoodic Peninsula for hiking, biking, and enjoying the crashing waves at Schoodic Point, and it was a beautiful scenic drive to get to Acadia National Park on the Bar Harbor side! It is also so close to the hiking up by Donnell Pond. We couldn't get enough of the place and will surely be back!

Comfortable and cozy! We really enjoyed our time at “the pink house”. It was an excellent home base for us while we explored the island, and we felt so lucky that our dog could join us on the trip. Thank you for the pet friendly accommodation!

We greatly enjoyed our time at Slice of Haven. It was clean and comfortable and we all felt right at home. Krista and Joe were gracious hosts and helped recommend local attractions to see and restaurants to eat out.

Tamarack was a lovely private cottage near Southwest Harbor and close to everything we wanted to do in Acadia! We enjoyed staying on the "quiet side" of Mt. Desert Island and Tamarack was a cozy respite after a long day of hiking. The added bonus of a beautiful sunrise out of our window each morning was very serene! The cottage was new and very clean with all of the amenities you could ask for. There was not much to walk to however it is only about 5 minutes into Southwest Harbor which had a number of good restaurants ( although many close after the 3rd week in October) and close to a tiny but well stocked grocery store. We enjoyed cooking out on the gas grill and exploring local restaurants. Our host was very accommodating and communicative! We will be back next fall!!!

We really enjoyed our stay. Great location close to Bar Harbor and Acadia, but far enough away to avoid some of the crowds. The home was cozy and clean. Shawn's hospitality was top-notch. He gave us lots of recommendations and tips before our stay and had fresh-baked cookies and coffee waiting for us when we arrived. Highly recommend.

We had such an amazing time at 10 Jordan Pond. The homes location was perfect. Walking distance to the beach and restaurant down the street. You can’t get much closer to Acadia! The home was clean and so charming. Plenty of space for our family of 7. Edith was a wonderful host. She was helpful and responsive to my questions. We look forward to the day we can return.

Bendigo and Jenni were great hosts from the start. They communicated before we arrived and checked in with us regularly throughout our stay to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed. Their house is beautiful and looks just like the photos. Every room was meticulously clean and so lovely. The location is very private and peaceful. After a day of hiking and sightseeing it felt like coming home each evening. We would definitely book again with Bendigo and Jenni on our future trips to MDI.

The house was spacious and clean. Linens were great and seemed new. Robyn had local goodies to share which were wonderful and I bought some as gifts to bring back home. She had things to make s’mores. Pantry was full of spices and things for baking if needed. Had a large selection of books, dvds and games to play. Was a great experience.

Catherine’s home is bright and airy—a true respite from the hustle and bustle of the world. The kitchen, laundry, and amenities are so well-stocked and carefully organized that you don’t need to worry about the little things; she’s truly thought of everything. It allows you to relax fully and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Catherine also provided a thoughtful list of great trails, local eateries, and the best spots to buy produce, which made settling in even easier.

Nicole was a wonderful host. She is friendly & responsive. Her home is bright and welcoming. I loved all of the personal touches throughout the space. Including photos of her family and even the marks on the wall where she measured her kids growing up. It truly felt like we were at a home away from home. It comes equipped with everything you might need. Very clean and beautifully decorated. The beds are comfortable! Each room had soundscapes playing upon arrival. The home is in a quiet location with minimal traffic (we even saw deer in the backyard while enjoying the fire pit) but still close enough to be within 30 ish minutes of all of the popular Bar Harbor hikes & attractions. 10/10 recommend! ⭐️
