Kid-friendly vacation rentals in Mainland

Two of us, plus our two dogs, had the Noddle to ourselves so we had plenty of room. It was exactly as described. Had everything you needed plus very comfy bed. It was lovely to have the fire going and also to sit in the conservatory which was so toasty. I even had a go at sketching and playing the piano! Emilys tea room is such an easy walk and we had a delicious supper with her plus coffee the morning we checked out. Thank you Tony.

A beautifully maintained property and spotlessly clean. The framed poems by John Horne, a local poet and former resident of the cottage, were a lovely touch. We made use of the neat little garden, and were able to sit with a cup of coffee in the evening sunshine. Lorna thought of everything we might need and was generous in the 'treats' she left for us to enjoy. We felt right at home.

This was a lovely house and a good base for exploring Caithness. The house was well equipped, the beds were very comfortable and the showers were hot. The house was lovely and warm to combat the chilly weather outside! Our hosts were friendly and check in / check out was simple. There was plenty of room for the 10 people in our party. Our children particularly enjoyed the sand dunes at Dunnet Bay and rock pooling at Ham Harbour - even in the rain. There was a nice walk from nearby Lybster Harbour along the cliff tops.

We absolutely loved our stay, the cottage was everything we wanted and looked for. Evelyn is a fantastic host and provides an amazing cottage to stay in. Immaculate, peaceful and the best location, only a few minutes from Stromness. We will be back.

The family and I had an amazing time staying with Martin. He is a lovely gentleman, super welcoming and a fantastic host. We had booked this stay as part of our NC500 trip and it was a decision well made. Couldn’t have asked for more. The apartment was spotless and a lot bigger than we had thought. There was no issue for room with the four of us. We felt well cared for to the point it felt we were staying with family. We would recommend Martin to anyone, defiantly would stay here again.

Brian's place in Tankerness was just great and Brian was a great host who answered questions quickly. Very beautiful view out the back windows and very peaceful location. The house was clean and comfortable with plenty of room for lounging. Easy drive to Kirkwall. If you are very lucky the local farm cat will come and intoduce himself. He is a charmer. If we are ever lucky enough to visit Orkney again we wouldn't hesitate to stay at Valkyrie.

We loved our stay at the Bothy! Gem and Ike were super helpful and always quick to respond to any questions we had. The location was gorgeous, with stunning views and a really peaceful, private vibe. The Bothy was spotless, and you could tell Gem and Ike had thought of everything to make our stay comfortable. We were pleasantly surprised to find a bottle of prosecco and tea cakes waiting for us when we arrived – such a nice touch! Overall, we had a fantastic time and would totally recommend this place to anyone looking for a chill and beautiful getaway.

I had a wonderful stay at this apartment in Orphir. The place was absolutely impeccable—spotlessly clean, well-organized, and equipped with everything needed for cooking, cleaning, and beyond. It was clear that great care had been taken to ensure guests feel comfortable. Louise, the host, was welcoming and proactive, making the check-in process seamless and ensuring I had everything I needed throughout my stay. Orphir is peaceful and perfect for a relaxing getaway, but a car is recommended for reaching supermarkets or larger towns. The apartment is ideal for families of four and feels like a luxurious treat for singles or couples. Highly recommended.

We did the Thurso parkrun, then spent the day there then went to John O’Groats. Had a great time. Flat was great for 4 people with 2 ensuite. Hotel across the road was great for dinner and the Chinese across the road was pretty good too

We were three people who were up for a long weekend, and the Airbnb was absolutely perfect for our stay - the location is a stone’s throw away from Kirkwall’s main streets, and the parking was so useful as well. Graham was extremely helpful throughout our time there, and the apartment itself was really lovely, with everything we could need and leaflets with tourist information as well. Highly recommend!

Fantastic! I’ve stayed in a lot of different types of accommodation over the years but this was the best. Immaculate in every way and very thoughtfully presented. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend or go back to this property. Ten minute walk to the town centre. Friendly host next door but didn’t intrude. You won’t be disappointed!

We have stayed in a lot of properties in Thurso and this is by far the best one we have stayed in, we would highly recommend. Plenty of space and everything you could need during your stay. Exceptionally clean and easy access. We have already booked for our next stay.

Marie and John's place was lovely! Its right by the harbour, comes with free parking and is easy to get to, while the apartment itself is cosy, clean and comfortable. Its also conveniently located as it is close to a number of food spots. Marie was responsive, eager to help and a welcoming host, and the apartment was great value for money. We definitely recommend it to other fellow NC500 travellers!

Perfect stay, beautiful location and well equipped, spotless

Leona”s place is spacious, warm and comfortable. It is well equipped and a great location to visit the local Neolithic sites, Stromness and Kirkwall. There is great access to the local Loch. I would definitely stay again.

We loved staying in Jenny's place. She was a fantastic host, really responsive and going above and beyond to accommodate our needs and help us with everything we might need. The place itself was beautifully decorated, extremely well-equipped and in an excellent location to walk into Kirkwall and explore the rest of Orkney. Would 100% recommend this Air BnB - one of the best stays ever :)
