Stay Golden is a family-run boutique-hotel with pool at the beach of Arugam Bay. Your wooden cabana is spacious and clean. It’s designed with love to make you feel comfortable. The cabana is set up over 2 floors (inside stairs), with 2 double beds, shelves, cupboards, a desk, air-conditioning, and a balcony. The balcony offers seating, a hammock and a 180 degrees sea view. Your en-suite bathroom comes with hot water. This cabana is the closest to the pool and beach. It suits well for families.

The space
Our hotel is located at an empty and wide beach, only some walking minutes away from Arugam Bay center. We offer 5 cabanas and 2 double rooms. For families, we recommend this premium-cabana or our family-cabana.

In our garden, we run a modern restaurant with café. It’s the perfect place for you to relax, and enjoy good food. We serve healthy, fresh and delicious local food from morning to evening. There is a variety of options for vegetarians and vegans as well.
All day long, the pool with children area invites you to cool off. Sun beds and shade are provided free of charge for you. You have access to free and fast Wifi all over the property. We regularly offer yoga classes at our rooftop yoga shala overlooking the ocean. Furthermore, you can book surfing lessons or rent a surf board with us. A special highlight are the safaris to the Kumana National park and to the Pottuvil lagoon. We are happy to organize them for you.

We strive for sustainable eco-tourism. The hot water is produced by solar panels; we consciously reduce our plastic consumption, separate our bio waste and offer bicycles free of charge. Additionally, mineral water is available for you to refill.

Parking is available on the property or next to the hotel on the street. Our hotel is located in a more quiet residential area, off the typical busyness of Sri Lanka's streets. To Arugam Bay centre, it is only a couple of minutes by foot.

Where you’ll be

Arugam Bay Beach, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka

Arugam Bay is famous for its surf (main season is from April to October). You walk ten minutes at the beach until you reach the main Surf spot (Main Point). Turning South, standing at Stay Golden’s beach, you can spot Crocodile’s Rock and Elephant Rock at the horizon. The beach seems endless on that side of the bay. It’s beautiful.

The hotel is located in the still more undiscovered area of Arugam Bay, perfect for everyone seeking peace. Nature mixed with simple, local residential houses surround us. Though, it’s just a ten minutes walk to the city center of Arugam Bay or a couple of minutes bike ride (bikes are free of charge for guests). There, you find many shops and restaurants.
We also rent scooters.

When you have any questions about what to do around, your travel plans, or just want to chat, we are here for you. Rihan was born in Pottuvil as the son of a local fisherman. In 2014, he started with Stay Golden, hosting people in simple beach cabanas. In 2017, Angie joined. She is Rihan’s wife, originally from Germany and fell in love with him and the country. In 2019, we moved Stay Golden to our own land off the beaten track from busy Arugam Bay town.
