Maple Magic

BeckyRating, 5 stars8 months ago
Maple Magic was a wonderful place to stay for my group of 5 adults. The kitchen was fully, I mean, fully equipped. There were real sheets on the beds! So many places use microfiber now and I am not a fan. It was definitely an elevated experience. Michelle was very clear in her communications and helpful. Sturgeon Bay is a great jumping off point for all that Door County has to offer. Enjoy!

Maple Grove Landing (Brand New Rental)

LynnRating, 5 stars6 months ago
We had a great sister-cousin weekend in Door County. We enjoyed having a place to catch up on each other’s lives. The location was close to restaurants and shops. It was a plus to have 2 full bathrooms for the 6 of us to get ready. Overall, a great place to stay for a group.

Sturgeon Bay Waterfront Cottage, Private beach.

CherylRating, 5 stars4 days ago
We loved this rental… it was early season so the only thing we missed was the dock and kayaks for fishing were not available yet. We also weren’t able to have a fire as there weren’t any outdoor seating available. Again early season and totally understood. The view from the rental is amazing and pictures do not do it justice. They have a wonderful piece of heaven.

JaneRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
So grateful to stay at the Green Apple Lodge! We had a lovely stay. The location was private, very peaceful and quiet. The cabin was roomy and cozy with all the amenities, and perfect for a long weekend. We enjoyed the hot tub after a long hike. Patty was a friendly and responsive host that did a great job with clear directions and instructions for the cabin. We would definitely stay again!

Unique architect-designed home on waterfront bluff

DesireeRating, 5 stars2 months ago
I recently had the pleasure of staying at a truly unique property that I can't stop thinking about. The house boasts an incredible glass roof that allows for unobstructed views of the sky, stars, and the surrounding landscape. The house is perfectly positioned to make the most of its surroundings. On clear nights, lying in bed and looking up at the stars was simply magical. What sets this house apart is how it seamlessly blends with nature. It's an oasis of peace, ideal for anyone seeking a retreat from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Highly recommend this house for anyone who appreciates beauty, design, and nature. Kimberly was such an accommodating host, you’ll feel welcomed and well taken care of every step of the way. Highly recommend!

Sea Glass Cottage

KjRating, 5 stars6 months ago
This was our second time staying at Blair's cottage and we would absolutely stay here again on our next Door County trip. The cottage feels so peaceful and private with stunning views of Lake Michigan. We loved hearing the lake (and nothing else) from inside the cottage. And it was a 15 minute drive to Sister Bay when we wanted to go out to eat. This is a special place!

Waterfront on Peaceful Moonlight Bay

BarbRating, 5 stars1 month ago
We had a great time at Moonlight Bay! The home was warm and inviting. We had everything that you could have wanted from kitchen items to extra blankets to snuggle up on the couch with. It rained the whole time we were there, so outdoor activities were limited and there was actually an ice storm Saturday night, but we were very content staying in the home, watching March Madness and playing one of the many games the home had to offer! We watched the swans right out on the lake. Just a really relaxing get away for our whole family. I would definitely recommend Ashely and David to anyone looking for a peaceful getaway in Door Co! We hope to come back some day with a little bit nicer weather so we can enjoy the lake!

Stunning 2-bedroom floating cottage (Pier Relax'n)

DanaRating, 5 stars8 months ago
Exactly as described! A fun different way to stay with the floating aspect. Our two little kids enjoyed everything! There is an odd smell after flushing the toilet but it is contained well to the bathroom area and spray is provided. Smell is not due to a lack of attention anywhere, just how the system is set up. Cleaning crew was very attentive- very clean! A nice cozy experience! Great views and not too noisy!

Relax at the Lake House!

NathanielRating, 5 stars6 months ago
What a wonderful & beautiful property! There is so much to explore inside and out with fun surprises around every corner. More than enough room to find your own space when you want, and fantastic gathering spaces for the whole group. There is plenty to do no matter what weather. Saying the kitchen is ready for anything is an understatement, every utensil, appliance, and most spices you would need to cook anything are there! We did feel the cleaning fee was steep, but the place was immaculate. Not a spot of dust or dirt anywhere. Hearing the swans call to each other at night and in the early morning was a treat most people never experience. We loved our stay and hope to return again soon!

NFL Draft or Foghorn Bay Getaway

ErikaRating, 5 stars4 months ago
Excellent stay and time spent with family. This served our purposes. The house had many extras including the use of a grill, a fully stocked kitchen, extra t-p & paper towels and clean bedding and towels. We enjoyed the view (on the non-foggy days), and wished that it wasn’t winter, so that we could have gone out on the canoes/kayaks. Luke and Giza’s place is a great location, and nice and comfy. We felt right at home and if the opportunity arose we’d stay here again!

Sandy Beach Home on beautiful Door County Island

RobinRating, 5 stars8 months ago
Our family vacation was absolutely what we wanted on Washington Island, and especially at Essa's home! We wanted a quiet, relaxing place, and we definitely got that. We seriously felt like we were on a secluded island....didn't see one person until we drove to the other side of the island! If you are looking for a place to get away from the everyday hustle of life, Essa's place is where it's at. We got up in the mornings and had coffee and read on the 4 season's porch, sat on the beach, played games, watched movies, and had bonfires in the evening. The only bad thing....the week went to quickly!!!!

Michael’s place was so unique and cute, with a lot of things to do to stay entertained. We especially enjoyed the beautiful view from the back room, and the deck, and the fire pit. My brother is a musician so it was fun playing with all the instruments.

Your guide to Door County

Welcome to Door County

Sometimes called the Cape Cod of the Midwest, Door County is a narrow, triangular peninsula that juts out from eastern Wisconsin into Lake Michigan. The county is remote enough to have preserved the legacy of the Potawotami, Belgians, and Scandinavians who have made it their home. Yet Door County’s population of more than 27,000 swells exponentially in summer, when visitors escape to its coastal parks and approximately 35 surrounding islands and delight in a host of cultural events, breweries, restaurants, and museums. Circling the county will bring you past lighthouses, beaches, forests of white spruce and balsam fir, cherry orchards, and charming Midwestern towns with names like Brussels and Egg Harbor.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Door County

As you might imagine, the lake exerts a major influence on both the weather and the activities in Door County. Summer brings comfortably warm temperatures and flocks of visitors, who loll about the beaches and on the water from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Music lovers head to Fish Creek in August just for the Peninsula Music Festival, which draws spectacular performers from around the country. Fall’s crisp days are ideal for hiking and leaf-peeping, and if you arrive in September, you might catch Kermiss, a Belgian cultural festival in Brussels. Snowier than the rest of Wisconsin, Door County sees white roads and glittering trees from late October to mid-April — as well as enthusiastic cross-country skiers, ice skaters, and snowmobile riders.

Top things to do in Door County

Sturgeon Bay

This city of 9,000, located in the geographical heart of the peninsula, is a port town straddling tiny Sturgeon Bay. Water activities here are plentiful, from kayaking and paddleboarding to fishing in Lake Michigan, and the Whitefish Dunes right outside town offer trails to explore. It’s easy to lose an afternoon wandering in and out of the galleries, restaurants, breweries, and the historical museum downtown.

Door County Coastal Byway

One of the loveliest scenic byways in the Midwest, this 66-mile loop starts in Sturgeon Bay and culminates in Gills Rock, hugging Lake Michigan along the east side of the peninsula and Green Bay on the west. And though you may only spend a few hours driving, you’ll want to allocate a day for the loop, making frequent stops to climb the Cana Island Lighthouse, fill your shoes with sand on the Jacksonport beaches, and admire the historic buildings in Gibraltar.

Washington Island

The biggest of the county’s islands, accessible via car ferry year round, this island hosts a small community of 700 permanent residents — as well as copious hiking and biking trails, soft-sand beaches, and golf courses. This island was home to one of America’s first Icelandic communities, and a pan-Scandinavian influence remains. Make sure to hunt down the peaked roofs and Nordic carvings of the Stavkirke, a modern recreation of a medieval Norwegian church. If the island doesn’t feel remote enough, take a passenger ferry to the car-free Rock Island state park (available Memorial Day weekend through Columbus Day) for the day.
