Magnolia Garden Bungalow :)Dogs/Hot Tub

CarolynRating, 5 stars3 weeks ago
Sara's home was lovely and comfortable. Her gardens on the side of the house and outside a bedroom in front, were tranquil, colorful, magical places. I daydreamed about how she must have planted in stages over the years, planning blooms for the different seasons and assisted by her obvious green thumb. The kitchen was well equipped, and the home had everything we needed. Sara was very welcoming, leaving us a beautiful flower arrangement, and a water bowl and squeaking and crinkling toy for our dogs.

Steps to Black's Beach

RaquelRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
Nice place about a half block from Twin Lakes Beach. Location is great and the place was perfect for our family of 3 plus our dog. Our teenage son enjoyed sleeping in the loft and our dog loved barking at passersby from the deck... The unit is above the main house where the host lives, but felt private. We'd be happy to stay here again next time we're in town.

We had a very peaceful stay at Michael’s place in the mountains and Michael was friendly and helpful in checking us in and providing recommendations for good places nearby. It was nice to sit out on the property too and enjoy the beautiful views. Would stay there again!

Coastal Redwood Cabin | Hot tub | Private Creek

ShaylaRating, 5 stars6 days ago
My husband and I our little dog had an amazing weekend at the cabin! It was so beautiful and peaceful and had everything we needed. We went wine tasting a few miles up the road and came back and cooked a great steak dinner on the BBQ, then relaxed in the hot tub. We will definitely be back! And hopefully for longer next time! Sarah is a wonderful host.

Best Beach House Santa Cruz-Opal Cliff Beach House

GraceRating, 5 stars2 months ago
Joyce’s place was clean and had a really great location. We thought we were right on the Cliff so that was kind of a bummer to have a house in front of our ocean view. But the place was really nice, and very clean! The space was really cool and had great decoration. Beds were comfortable. Kids were happy. We loved playing in the hot tub and in the garden in the backyard.

The blue house at the beach

HaileyRating, 5 stars5 days ago
Anne’s cottage on the beach was absolutely wonderful! It’s such a special place—my family and I had a peaceful, relaxing stay. The views of the ocean are beautiful, and the beach is just steps away. We also loved having a few local restaurants within walking distance. Anne was the sweetest host—so kind, responsive, and attentive. She made sure we were well taken care of throughout our stay. The house was spotless, and the bed was very comfortable. We truly hope to stay here again someday.

Bungalow in Capitola Village Steps from River walk

KarenRating, 5 stars2 days ago
We had a wonderful vacation at this property! This house is cozy (not too spacious) but well worth it considering the price and walkability to shops, restaurants, and the beach. The kitchen had just what we needed to cook breakfast each morning. The kids enjoyed the loft area, Nintendo and board games. Parking: We parked in the public lot for the first two days. It's a very short walk to the house and if you use the app, you can extend your time as needed from your phone. Warm rooms: we found it difficult to get the room and loft cooled down (in June) enough for my husband and son to be comfortable at bedtime, but they both get easily overheated. the fan helped. As for me, I was just fine! Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and would stay again.

Alpine Retreat w/Pool, Sauna, and Soaking tub LS1

AliciaRating, 5 stars1 day ago
We loved our stay at this stunning modern home tucked away in the Santa Cruz hills. The house feels completely private and secluded, surrounded by nature, yet it’s only about 15 minutes from town and the beach — the best of both worlds. Everything was beautifully designed, high-end, and spotless. The pool was a highlight for my kids. Perfect spot to unwind and still be close to everything. Would absolutely stay again!

Santa Cruz A-Frame

YangRating, 5 stars1 week ago
The Santa Cruz A-frame was such a serene retreat into the mountains for us, and an antidote to our overly digital and urban lives. Things we appreciated: easy parking, both an upstairs and downstairs bathroom, full kitchen supplies, private balcony, gorgeous forest views, creek in the back, and easy access to Loch Lomond (peddle boating on the lake was so peaceful), the redwood state park (hiking in the largely shaded trail was great on an otherwise sunny day), and local groceries and food (enjoyed the cute outdoor patio in the back of The Grove cafe and bakery). We had a wonderful rest!

Historic Lawnway Cottage

LindsayRating, 5 starstoday
I feel so lucky to have been able to spend 2 nights in this awesome cottage!!! It was my second time in Capitola and I didn’t really understand what Lawn Way was when I booked it. I was so excited when I realized that we would be staying one of these cute colorful historical cottages! Cottage was so clean, comfortable and described exactly. I loved learning about the family history of this cottage... Makes me feel so lucky to have been able to stay here. Bed was super comfy. Super cute inside. Location is unbeatable. The lawn was plush and so nice to lounge on. Perfect!

Designer Newly Built Capitola Village Bungalow

NaveenRating, 5 stars2 weeks ago
My daughter and her friends celebrated their senior year of high school at Greta's place. The kids are used to staying in nice places and hotels, and they said that Greta's place is a 5 * rated apartment. That says a lot coming from these kids who are used to staying in very nice hotels. The place was very nice, and tastefully put together. Walkable to the beach and quaint. They were six girls in total, and they all felt very comfortable in the apartment. Greta was very responsive, and her instructions were helpful all the way.

Capitola by the Sea – Beachfront Venetian #5

SarahRating, 5 stars1 week ago
The location can’t be beat! Amazing to be right on the beach and stay in one of the iconic colorful houses. The house itself has cute decor. The bed was super comfy and so were the provided blankets. Be prepared to have people take their photo in front of your windows constantly but it made for interesting people watching and we spent a lot of our time out on the beach anyway. It’s a pain to bring your own linens but still totally worth it for the location!

Your guide to Capitola

Welcome to Capitola

Established as a summer cottage escape, the small town of Capitola has stayed true to its roots as one of California’s first marquee resort destinations. Here you can wander a winding esplanade through the cozy village hugged by ocean bluffs, exploring clusters of Craftsman-style homes, galleries, breweries, and boutiques. Waterfront bistros serve food and cocktails alongside tranquil views, and wine tasting rooms offer wares from nearby vineyards. You can easily spend the day relaxing in the sun or learning to surf at Capitola's big sandy beach, which is dotted with bright, candy-colored storefronts. Begin your evening by taking in the sunset from the tip of a 855-foot wooden pier. Located just south of Santa Cruz, Capitola provides a low-key alternative to its neighbor’s buzzy boardwalk amusement park, making it an ideal base for exploring Northern California’s coastal charms.

The best time to stay in a vacation rental in Capitola

If you’re hoping for a classic beach vacation, summer and the early months of fall are the best time to enjoy Capitola. Warm weather entices people to the beach, where sun worshippers lounge on the sand or try their luck at boogie boarding and surfing in the gentle waves. Sidewalk dining buzzes, and the town hosts outdoor concerts, movies, and art fairs, including the Capitola Art and Wine Festival in September, featuring more than 160 artists and 20 wineries. As fall fades into winter, you’ll still encounter sunny days, but also cooler temps, fog, and rain showers. These seasons also mean fewer crowds, though — and a walk along the beach under foggy skies can be just as picturesque as on a summer day. (Note that even in the summer, mornings and evenings can be fogged in, so bring extra layers.)

Top things to do in Capitola

New Brighton State Beach

While Capitola Beach is the main waterfront draw, nearby New Brighton State Beach is an under-the-radar gem. This undeveloped swatch of coastline boasts dramatic tree-topped bluffs and uninterrupted vistas of Monterey Bay. Explore the beach via hiking trails, and stop by the nature center — open in spring and summer — to learn more about its history and environs.

Soquel

This 150-year-old community a mere five-minute drive from Capitola is an appealing collection of mom-and-pop antique shops perfect for a day of leisurely browsing. After you’ve located a unique treasure to take home, unwind with a tipple at a local winery.

Bigfoot Discovery Museum

Southern California can keep its movie stars. In Northern California, the most famous resident is a hairy humanoid who roams the redwoods named Bigfoot. Journey about 20 minutes inland from Capitola to the forested town of Felton to visit the diminutive and quirky Bigfoot Discovery Museum, which offers proof (if you choose to see it that way) of the creature's existence, alongside pop culture memorabilia.
