Family-friendly vacation rentals in Waitaki District

We made a huge mistake when only booking this place for part of our stay. My thought was to jump around the South Island with my family at a couple stops. Had I known it was this awesome, then I would’ve booked our whole time at Anna’s. This place is exactly what my family loves. The kids will definitely be complaining about where we stay next. This property is AWESOME.

Loved our stay. The Black House was cozy, comfortable and warm. The perfect spot for us to relax and unwind. Close to the lakefront but away from the bustle. The outdoor tub was a great ammenity. Beds were super comfortable and the house was spotless. The fire made a cold rainy evening cozy and relaxing. The host provided heaps of useful information and recommendations. Highly recommend!!

Absolutely loved our stay here! Everything was super clean and there was lots of space. The hot tub was an added bonus at the end of the day!

Ian and Tia were very loving hosts and attentive to whatever we needed. The cottage is fully equipped to spend a few relaxing days there.

We found Steve an incredibly kind and helpful host! He was always responsive when we needed help and the place was exactly what we needed it to be for a gorgeous weekend away for a wedding!

We had an absolutely magical stay at this farm - a truly one-of-a-kind experience! Upon arrival, we found the fridge stocked with fresh milk and breakfast supplies, including delicious homemade butter and yogurt. The real highlight was the farm experience. Our farmer hosts went above and beyond - they were so warm and welcoming, introducing us to their adorable lambs (each with their own special name!) and other animals. They patiently shared their knowledge about farm life, making us feel like part of their family. It wasn't just accommodation - it was like stepping into a storybook. We'd return in a heartbeat and highly recommend this special place!

We had a lovely stay whilst doing part of the Alps to Ocean bike ride. Really cosy place. The hot tub was the perfect temperature. The apple cake if you opt for dinner was brilliant. The only heads up I'd give other guests is that if you're over 5' 9 you might be ducking slightly in part of the bus, and there's no electricity inside. Neither was a problem for us though.

Awesome place make sure you get there before 7 as muddy creek pizzas finish then. Great location, great fire, great spa pool, beds awesome comfortable. Also separate room for snorers what more could 4 cycling Elvis like. Alien dvd was awesome as well!!

Fantastic place to stay while curling at Naseby. Looking forward to staying again. Very comfortable for five women and great to have two bathrooms!

A lovely quirky cottage full of character and charm. Perfect location with great eating places nearby. Large garden with comfortable seating areas overlooking the wonderful scenery.

Spacious new home - comfortable after being out enjoying the outdoors at Lake Ohau and surrounds. Very comfortable and well equipped.

Immediately feel at home in this fascinating little cottage, built out of natural materials and decorated with art & creations that give it a unique and cosy feel. Our host left us a special little welcoming gift of fresh baked bread which we absolutely loved, while enjoying the delightful evening watching the cows in the field. The pub was friendly and the store was very interesting. Definitely a memorable experience, highly recommend especially if you are a creative or inquisitive person. Lovely bed, good linen & facilities. Thank you

We had a great stay at Frog Lodge - it was wonderful to be able to stay at such a lovely home that also welcomed our dogs. The fenced yard was perfect for them and we enjoyed sitting on the deck in the afternoon sun. We had such great communication from Jan in the lead up that we had no questions or concerns and everything went smoothly. We would love to stay again next time we are in the area and would 100% recommend a stay in Autumn, such a beautiful time of year in the area.

Thank you so much for the house Prue!A wonderful experience!My surprise finds the starry sky at the door of Prue's home is the best!Look up and you can see the stars!And there is a dedicated parking space as well as complete utensils, air fryer, and the supermarket in Tekapo is just a three-minute drive away, which is very convenient!The room is warm and comfortable, the electric blanket is provided, very nice to sleep, the surroundings are very quiet, and the curtains are blacked out, Prue is lovingly set up her house, all the details are great considering the✨💕 need for everything Prue💕

We had a fantastic stay here for a couple of nights. The setting was beautiful and Michele was kind enough to let us explore the stunning garden and enjoy some of her home grown veg. The welcome couldnt have been warmer. The accommodation was clean and cosy and was perfect for us and our two small children. A perfect alternative to staying in Tekapo. We would loved to have stayed longer. Would strongly recommend this place to others.

Maxene’s place is a dream stay and one of the most beautiful Airbnb we’ve experienced 😇 The ocean view from the living room is truly top-level, making every moment inside feel like a retreat. Just one minute down the private stairs to the beach, you’ll find yourself completely lost in the magic of hanging out with sea seals and soaking in the peaceful beauty of the coastline 🦭 The house itself is cozy, beautifully designed, and thoughtfully prepared, offering the perfect balance of comfort and nature. The kitchen is well-equipped, the bed is incredibly comfortable, and every detail makes you feel at home. This is the kind of place where you can truly reset, slow down, and be present. Maxene is a super kind host, always making sure everything is right for her guests. Her warmth and thoughtfulness made our stay even more special ❤️ If you’re looking for a peaceful retreat surrounded by nature, this is the perfect place. We're already dreaming of coming back. Modern, clean, calm and well appointed. Warren's Airbnb is a perfect base to explore Mount Cook, Tekapo (Mount John observatory), and Lake Ohau. Warren has created a place you'll want to return to.

A cute little cosy cabin in a beautiful, tranquil location. I was wanting a getaway from Dunedin for a few days and chanced upon this cabin in Kakanui. I was lucky to have found this enchanted place. Kathrin and Walter were great hosts in going the extra mile in making a shy, private person like me feel comfortable and welcome. They invited me into their home and offered me coffee and kept me warm with their log fire while there was a brief power outage in Kakanui. Their narration of how they first arrived in this country from their home in Switzerland was very interesting and admirable. Kathrin has the gift of being jovial and is a great conversationist. We loved our stay at the Foehn Cottage. It felt like home while we traveled from Queenstown to Mount Cook. it was comfortable, warm, had everything we needed and please do yourself a favour, go sit at the garden table and watch the milky way above your head past 8pm, gorgeous.
