This place is on the back side of Mt. Nachi and is not very close to Kumano Kodo. Due to many customers canceling, please check the location again before booking. Japanese houses are designed to suit Japan's climate (warm and humid). Therefore, it is cold in winter because it is not airtight. Please refrain from staying if you are looking for the comfort of hotel. Recommended for those who want to experience traditional Japanese rural life. Including dinner and breakfast.

It is a lodge in the mountain which refurbished the old building and has a stay production base for artists. The name of the lodge is "Kumoma". Our lodge is in Koguchi village, which is located in the mountains between Hongu and Nachi. It is popular with hikers on the Kumano Kodo pilgrimage route. For breakfast, we serve simple things such as toast, drinks, fruits, etc. It is rare in the mountains,but you can buy some food because the small shop is in front of you.

This was one of our favorite stays in our entire trip! The place is beautifully renovated. The cafe downstairs really gave us a perfect holiday feel. The hosts we're very welcoming and it really felt like a home. Waking up with the view of the mountain valley around was a special highlight. Perfect stopover on the Kumano Kodo. Also the lunch bento was one of our best in Japan so far!

The stay at Chizuru’s and Shinya’s place was lovely. They are both so friendly and I had a great time at their house. It has definitely been one of the best places I’ve stayed during my trip in Japan. After many busy Japanese cities, the peaceful area of Ōno was right what I needed. The place, surrounded by mountains, was very cozy. I could help Chizuru and Shinya in their organic farm, picking vegetables and getting to see the way their daily life looks like. Chizuru is an amazing cook and she cooked delicious food during my stay there. I got the place recommended by a friend who was there years ago and it was definitely worth the ride, which by train and the local bus is very easy. I can only recommend you to go there!

The staff at Akariya is exceptional! They went out of their way to help with my food restrictions while I was sick. They were always extremely kind and considerate. I would highly recommend staying at this hotel.
