Nestled behind the old farmhouse in stunning countryside between the villages of Sheriff Hutton, with its well stocked village shop and deli and Farlington with its traditional rural pub. We are ideally located for exploring the historic city of York, majestic Castle Howard, North York Moors and Railway, the rugged Yorkshire coastline as well as the market towns of Helmsley and Malton.

The Hut in the Wild

Come and stay in our beautifully finished, tin shepherds hut at the bottom of our garden. We are located in the rolling countryside with extensive views over the vale of York. After a day of exploring this AONB, there’s nothing like cooking tea over the fire pit or wood pellet pizza oven followed by a dip under the stars in our rustic hot tub. Fall into a fresh clean bed and wake up to the sound of the dawn chorus. Our bathroom barn provides all your needs for a morning freshen up!See you soon.

The Owlery at Mill Farm

Recently converted, the Owlery is the perfect self-catered rural escape for couples. With its double height vaulted ceiling and full height double aspect windows the open plan kitchen living diner offers a light and airy space to unwind and enjoy the view of surrounding fields. The bedroom has a Kingsize bed, Egyptian cotton sheets and En-Suite shower room. The Bathroom offers complimentary Bramley products and cotton bathrobes. Both areas are underfloor heated. There is a private garden.

Grooms Cottage is on a private estate right next to the ruins of Sheriff Hutton Castle. The property is in a peaceful setting but only two minutes walk away from the village pub and post office/general store. Our cottage was completely renovated in 2021 and is in a great location for walkers, cyclists, and explorers. It’s about 10 miles from both York and Malton, Castle Howard is under 6 miles away, and the coast can be reached in under an hour. Grooms Cottage sleeps 4 guests+2 babies +dogs

In the rural village of Sheriff Hutton, located just 20 minutes north of York and less than 1 hr from beach. Free parking. Your shepherd's hut is set in the enclosed, inner courtyard of the C14th castle ruins, your own private space. Atmospheric and perfect for relaxing, enjoying a quiet drink in the evening in front of the fire pit & gazing at a starry sky or the impressive ruins. We have 3 other stays, for couples, around the castle available if you would like to visit with friends. No WiFi.

The Old Workshop

Tucked away in a little farming hamlet in the Howardian Hills, this newly renovated old workshop adjoins our cottage, with its own entrance and patio. Well situated for exploring North Yorkshire, moors, coast, wolds, historic York, market towns and stately homes, we hope you will be rested and refreshed by your stay here. Nearby there are lovely walks and cycle rides if you fancy staying local. We provide a welcome basket of muesli, granola, bread, butter and jam as well as teas, coffee etc.

Set at the top of the village green with views of Sheriff Hutton Castle, our cottage is a luxurious rural retreat, furnished by an interior designer. The village has historic Richard III connections, and is ideally situated to explore York, Castle Howard, the North York Moors or the Yorkshire coast. There is a shop/Post Office, and walking routes right outside the door. There are two pubs, The Castle at the foot of the Green, and The Highwayman, which serves good pub grub.

Stunning rural shepherds hut

Located in the stunning Howardian Hills, this is a peaceful and romantic location. A perfect all year round escape. You park your car and the hut is a 5 minute walk from our house- make sure you pack suitable footwear. We can transport your luggage to the hut. The hut has cooking facilities (oven and a hob), there is also a fire pit for barbecues and a picnic table for outdoor dining. You have exclusive use of a hot tub which is right next to the hut.
