Cob Cottage

Channel the pursuit of pause in this one-of-a-kind earth house. The cozy retreat was hand-sculpted using local and sustainable natural materials, and features a central living space with cantilevered slab stairs leading to the loft bedroom. Guests have access to the entire cottage and surrounding property. We live in the neighbouring house, and are happy to give advice or answer questions to help you make the most of your stay. The neighborhood is quite rural and mostly agricultural with several farms and a small private vineyard. The home is a 10 minute walk from the beach and a 20 minute walk from a family grocery and deli specializing in local organic produce. Mayne Island has a small community bus. Times and routes are limited, particularly in the winter. It will stop at the driveway. We also have an official hitch hiking system with signed Car Stops where you can wait for a ride. Usually you don't have to wait long. We are happy to offer pickup and drop off at the ferry dock as a courtesy to encourage car-free travellers, on days when the community bus is not running. Please let us know ahead of time that you'll be coming without your own transportation, and we will make sure that either we or the community bus (which will drop you off at our driveway) are there to meet you when your ferry arrives. The BC Ferries terminals near Victoria and Vancouver are easily reachable via public transit from their respective airports and downtowns.

Bungalow 252 is a secluded hilltop cedar home getaway. Magnificent 130 degree view of the ocean, Mt. Baker and the Cascades. Hardwood flooring. Eagles, bats, deer and raccoons abound. BBQ, watch boats and occasionally orcas from the deck. Nicely stocked full kitchen. Wood stove. Pod coffee maker with coffee, chai, hot chocolate. 3D HDTV with streaming. Great location that is about a 45 second walk from the beach. Lots of rain that weekend, but relaxing inside with Java and a book is even better on a rainy day. The very short walk to the beach makes it very easy to go out during the breaks in the rain for some wandering. Everything is as described and we really like that the kitchen had all the tools needed to make a couple great meals. Barleans in Ferndale had some great halibut we cooked up ourselves for dinners. Plenty of accessible storage for guests so we could set up quick and keep the place uncluttered. Went to lunch at Drayton Oyster Co. had some great grilled oysters for lunch. This place is Very comfortable and peaceful, which is what we look for a weekend away. We would definitely stay here again.

I was looking for a place to escape the busyness of life for a little while with my family and discovered the perfect place to do just that in Marilyn’s home. This home is such a peaceful place while being within walking distance of woodsy trails and the beach! My two kiddos had the best time and were always entertained. Upon arrival, the home was spotless and so cozy. Marilyn quickly responded to all messages and would check to see if we needed anything, which was so awfully kind! The neighbors and locals were all so welcoming and warm. We had the best time kicking it at the beach in the sun, walking nature trails, and driving around the island with the windows down taking in the gorgeous views. Even ended each night in the backyard watching the sunset over a glass of red. Whether it’s a girls trip, family vacay, or couple’s retreat, this is the place to go! We will definitely be back!!

Gorgeous location, views are unbeatable. Such a lovely space, every member of the family read in the window seat at some point. Making breakfast and watching for the native otters to come play was a daily treat. The deck is massive and such a lovely vantage point of the harbor. So many critters to watch. Absolutely loved this home. We had 2 kids under 7 and they felt right at home with the stuffy toys and kids room with 2 single beds+. The house is about 5 min from the ferry and about 20-25 min from Eastsound - beautiful drive with lots of farm stands along the way.
