Couples, Families, & Business Travelers only, please. Perched on top of a colossal granite boulder sits this idyllic cottage for your magical retreat in Julian. Originally constructed as a tiny hunting lodge in 1930, the Cottage on the Rock was completely rebuilt from top-to-bottom in 2020 for the modern Californian. Rustic touches remain, but once you check-in you’ll quickly discover you’re “not exactly roughing it.” This is that listing where everything has been thought of. Come enjoy!
+ Crate and Barrel furnishings throughout + Radiant heated bathroom floors + Unobstructed views of the Pine Hills countryside + Venetian plaster feature-wall by a Julian artisan + Huge private deck with seating for 8 + Gas outdoor fire-pit/seating area for 4 + Stargazing front yard perch with seating for 2 + Off-street parking for 3 vehicles + Free coffee, tea, hot cider, hot chocolate (YES!!) + Free mountain bikes & locks (2) to enjoy + Free Wi-Fi + Downtown Julian: 10 min walk, 5 min bike ride + W/D on premises + Electric living room stove for cozy Winter nights + Sleeps 4 (Queen bed, Queen sized pullout)
The Cottage on the Rock is situated less than 1/2 mile from Downtown Julian. The home is at a high point compared to other homes in the little neighborhood and it's a rather large property. The parking driveway parks 3 cars off-street easily. If your pet will be joining you, please let us know in advance. Thanks so much!
  • Tera & Rich we’re great hosts during our stay at The Cottage on the Rock. We are already looking at a time to come visit again! We enjoyed every last detail from the heated bathroom floors, to sipping on complementary hot chocolate, this place was amazing!!!! We enjoyed the fire pit, and roasted marshmallows. This was the perfect escape, and a much needed break from the silliness going on in the city! We will be back soon, thank you for being wonderful hosts and providing a perfect Julian getaway!

  • Everything was wonderful. The place was spotless and such attention to detail. Great location and so peaceful and quiet. We will be back!!

  • The Cottage on the Rock, furnished from IKEA, offers a very clean, sleek place for staying a few days or longer. We would stay here again, even for visiting Anza Borrego State Park. The walk into town is great for those who want to get a little up and down exercise. The cottage is in a lovely setting of native trees and we loved the drive from Julian into the Anza Borrego Park. That said, The Center Grocery in Borrego Springs offers a much better selection and fresher produce, especially if one chooses a healthy diet, over either of the country stores in Julian. And, regarding the famous apple pie in Julian: At two places pie was terrible, soggy, overly sweet, lacked tartness--Preparing meals was easy at Richard's place. Communication was instant and helpful. And, thank-you for having a great washer and dryer! Melody

  • This is such a great gateway. Home is cozy and beautifully renovated, has all the essentials and every single window looks out to the trees and mountains. Such a wonderful place to relax. We love Julian and live closed by , for us it was a fun and relaxing experience.

    Gabby2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • This home is perfect. Nice quiet neighborhood. Clean and cozy. Close to the town of Julian with great restaurants but also close to the William Heise County Park which has some great hiking trails. We'll definitely stay here again. Thanks Richard for sharing your house with us.

    Wayne2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Richard's cottage is a good as it looks, even better! I appreciated all the special touches and spotless cozy environment. It was a perfect quiet getaway to read, relax, and explore the area. The view and vibe was so fantastic I never even turned on the TV. AND Richard could not have been any quicker to respond to any question or concern I had. I would just note that the bed is firm side. Thanks Richard, I look forward to a return visit soon.

    Krista2020-03-05T00:00:00Z
  • Loved our short stay here! It's modern but still very cozy, and everything is new, sparkling clean (very important for us 'cause when it's not, ew), and in good working order. Exactly as advertised including with the cottage being a separate single home - not attached to anything and several feet from neighbors. All the small thoughtful touches were what really put this place over the top - like an abundance of outlets, including USB charging ports + electric outlets by the bed, plenty of basic staples and tools in the kitchen, soft extra large bath towels, the heated tile floor in the bathroom, and built-in closet shelves and hangers. Still wishing I had a hot filtered water tap in my kitchen. One thing to note is that the turn into the driveway is a touch steep so you may want to be aware of cars that may not handle a slightly steep slope while turning up a hillside well. We drove a small SUV so our ground clearance was fine. We curled up on the comfy couch with our Corgi in his bed by the electric fireplace and got to chill, read, make breakfast burritos, binge Netflix, and listen to the rain. Made for an awesome quick getaway just when we needed one. Can't wait to come back for a longer stay! Highly recommend staying here if you're in Julian.

  • I can't say enough good about this place along with Richard and Tera!! It is super clean and bright, well-equipped with all you'd need for a one-night or many night stay! It is literally three minutes away from downtown Julian and yet feels like you're out in the wilderness as you look out from the deck or living room window! A fancy hotel has NOTHING on this place. You have privacy, room to move around and not feel confined like in a hotel room, enjoy a fire pit and a star gazing platform (a telescope is also included), enjoy the mountain bikes that come with the unit, cuddle up under a TV blanket (two are provided) and watch a favorite movie by the fireplace (electric fire so no worries about firewood and such) or read a book out on the deck, have friends over and enjoy time together out on the deck at the big table and cook some burgers, dogs, or steaks (or whatever) on the grill (also provided), or just relax and enjoy the sounds of the birds outside, of which there are tons!! If you are there for an extended time, there is a washer and dryer provided as well. We really enjoyed the fact that pots, pans, dishes, cups, and even a great spice rack were provided for our use! We had everything we needed and will definitely be going back!! Thank you so much, Richard and Tera for your fantastic hospitality!!!!

This is Lot #24 Enjoy this tiny home on the grounds at Borrego Holiday Homes! This is a cozy little spot that looks out onto the mountains at Anza-Borrego State Park.
Borrego Holiday Homes is a beautiful RV and Park Model community with great views of the surrounding mountains.
  • New tiny home. Clean and comfy with a loft in addition to the single bedroom. An adult cannot stand up in the loft, but it is fine as an extra sleeping area. Nice sully shaded carport so can park right next to the unit. Lovely mountain view from the living area patio door slider. Nice little "patio" deck not pictured in the listing.

    Kathy2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our stay at the Tiny House. The perfect size with good amenities and plenty of storage. The RV community is welcoming and friendly. The views of the desert and mountains are lovely. Perfect location near town and State Park Information Center. We so enjoyed riding our road bikes among the sculptures and beyond. Also, some good hikes nearby. We would highly recommend the Tiny House for a great stay in Borrego.

    Bob2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Sweet tiny home with well thought out spaces. Never felt crowded.

    Susan 2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • A comfortable and peaceful place to stay in Borrego Springs. Very conveniently located near town and also the Anza Borrego state park visitor center. The mobile home community where the home is located was quiet and friendly, with nice views and amenities. Would happily stay here again.

    Sharon2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Tiny house was truly amazing! We will be back for sure. Thank you.

    Miguel2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • A really great stay in the tiny home. It was clean, comfortable cozy and had everything we needed. It's an easy mile walk into town and it is close to the visitor center, hikes and the sculptures. We decided to drive over to check out Salvation Mountain, Slab City and The Salton Sea. Wacky and weird but interesting.

    Liz2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • This location is very convenient to many local attractions whether they be outdoor sculptures or trails in Anza-Borrego State Park. In Borrego Springs there is a local non-profit Nature Center that offer many programs throughout the week. Be sure to check their schedule for night sky, hiking or morning bird walks. And if you want to simply sit back and relax, from the deck , the views of the mountains to the west just can’t be beat.

    Jennifer2020-01-09T00:00:00Z
  • I can agree with everyone else, it’s an awesome and “sparkling clean” spot! My girlfriend and I absolutely loved staying here. We will be back.

Away from the daily hustle and bustle, this historical California Ranch style house has lots of character, and is nearly off the grid. A mix of the original 1940's Adobe home, and an updated and beautiful interior, adds a unique touch to this peaceful ranch house. The unheated pool provides an escape from the summer heat, and the wood fireplace is perfect for the cold winter nights. Beautiful views from every room, and a breathtaking display of stars at night. We highly recommend a 2 night stay.
WARNING: The pool is unfenced, and uncovered. This property may not be suitable for small children! Humilde Morada (Humble Abode) is the perfect place to get away from it all. The house is 75 years old, a little quirky, but unique. The home is fully equipped, with almost everything you could possibly need. A comprehensive list of what is included in your package can be found at the end of this summary. Large gas BBQ's on the back porch and front patio, perfect for a cookout. Spend the evening around the firepit, or enjoy the wood burning outdoors oven on the patio. The pool is not heated and swim season only starts around end of May or June. We have free WiFi via Hotspot. The house has only 5 beds (1 Queen, 2 Twin and 1 Bunk bed (top bunk only suitable for children), but we can provide inflatable mattresses upon request. We intentionally don't have a TV, but for light entertainment, and to keep the "of days gone by" atmosphere, we have 250 DVD's with a DVD player that can project movies onto the wall: a real treat for kids and teens! Sitting outside after dark, listening to crickets and the night life, or looking at the stars, is the absolute best way to go. Sunsets are amazing so be prepared for "sun downers" on the front porch, or enjoy a glass of wine in front of the wood burning fireplace, watching the sunset through the large lounge windows in the winter months. There is an endless supply of wood at the house, so please do not bring your own wood. Humilde Morada is a great place for a fun family/friend get together, and a peaceful, secluded getaway from it all. About 5% of our guests rate this property as "remote". The Warner Springs area consists of small towns and farming communities. We are located in one of those communities, and surrounded by other 15 acre properties. Please do a Mapquest satelite map for Old Mine Rd. , Ranchita to get a better idea of what the area is like and where it is. Closest grocery store is 15min drive, and closest town (Ramona) is about 45min away, so bring your groceries and supplies with you!Check-in at 3pm, and checkout no later than 11am.
We are about 1 hour's drive from the city of Temecula, at the foot of the mountains. Elevation is about 4000 feet, even though the area appears to be at a lower elevation. Temecula is the perfect place to do wine tours and balloon rides. A 15 minute drive from the house, will take you to the small town of Santa Ysabel. Don's Market, in Santa Ysabel, is the closest market to our property, but it has almost anything you could need for a couple days away, including meat, beer and wine, ice and ice cream! If u don't feel like cooking and just want an average country meal, visit the Apple Country restaurant next to the Julian Apple Pie company or any of the other restaurants in the area. We are 25 minutes from Julian, a small historic town, priding themselves with the best apple pie in the region. Make sure to do a buggy ride, and visit the Julian Pie Company when out there! There are a number of restaurants, but be prepared for an early dinner since they close early in the evening. There are several little shops to browse through, and a great second hand bookstore; my favorite place to visit! When our kids were little, we found boxes of books dating back to when we were kids. It was a real treat to pass that on to our toddlers. Borrego Springs, is about a 25 minute drive down-hill, with easy access to the Anza Borrego Desert. This is the perfect place for a day trip during the cooler months. Spring time is the absolute best time to visit, when all the wild flowers are out in splendor. Borrego Springs has a few restaurants, but we can recommend the Coyote Grill for a nice dinner out!
  • Anna was a great host. She communicated right up through departure, even warning us about potential bad weather. The house was super clean, big bedrooms, great character. We went to Anza Borrego Park one day (20 min) and Julian (25 min) the next. The property is big and has a lot of out buildings, and I imagine it would be fun to stay with a group and rent out the guest house also. There is a really cute little "bunk bed" room off the kitchen that was likely a supply room at one time but would now be a great room for kids to sleep in. Lots of labels everywhere, which I appreciate, and although we didn't cook, it had everything you needed should you so desire. Both an eat-in kitchen and a large dining room and the living room is huge. We didn't get to enjoy the outdoor space due to the cold weather, however, it was lovely to look at through the large windows. We really enjoyed our stay!

    Jennifer2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • Anna's place was beautiful & clean. We enjoyed a fun hike up to Eagle Rocks while staying there. The bed was very comfortable & we especially enjoyed the pizza oven. The house has historical rich feel while being warm and comfortable. We would love to come back in the summer to play in the pool.

    Parvati2020-02-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was such a beautiful and unique house. The wonderful patio and pool area are a great place to just sit outside and relax. There’s plenty of hiking around if you want to go out and get active. The drive to julian wasn’t bad so it wasn’t a big deal if we needed to get something or just wanted to go out. The only downside was I didn’t get service with my provider, however my guest that had Verizon was able to have service. They provided a hotspot so I was still able to use my phone at the house, just not when I was on the patio. Overall I would definitely stay again.

    Jessica2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • excellent retreat for us, had a wonderful time at the Ranch. this is the second time we stay here and we are already planning for another visit this year.

    Marcos2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Anna’s place was beautiful! She is very descriptive in revealing the location and communicating the best way to navigate to the property and prepare for your stay. We visited during the winter, so we did not get to enjoy the beautiful outdoor space but it looked very inviting. It was exactly as she describes in her listing. The home is well stocked with everything you could possibly need and then some! We did have cell service (Verizon) while there, but not everywhere in the surrounding area. Anna was always quick to respond with any questions we had. We would definitely stay here again if we come back to this area!

    Treva2020-01-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful home with an amazing hostess! Even though she was out of town at the time she still stayed up (with the time difference) to make sure we got in safely.

    Kaira2019-12-29T00:00:00Z
  • This home has it all! Beautiful décor, games, movies, lots of amenities! Whether you want to take a drive into Julian for some apple pie, drive down to Borrego to check out the desert sculptures or enjoy some hiking right in your backyard.... this is the place to stay!

    Annamarie2019-11-12T00:00:00Z
  • Beautifully decorated home and outstanding communication from the host. Great location and lots of thoughtful touches made us feel at home. The only thing that I didn’t like was that the bathroom requires you to go through one of the bedrooms. If you are a family, it’s probably not a big deal, but we stayed with another couple, so that affected their privacy. Other than that we loved our stay here.

  • This was our second time staying here and it was just as amazing, if not better! We’ll definitely be back again :)

    Madalyn2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • This was our 5th trip to Julian and our 1st stay at Leigh’s place- and we are very thankful to Leigh for this wonderful experience! It is a very genuine place- a truly perfect fit for someone who wants to explore Julian and its beautiful surroundings, but also for someone who enjoys spending time staying at one place and just relaxing. The property itself is a very interesting experience, with plenty of things to explore- you can walk around, hike to Julian, interact with horses (Duster is so lovely!), observe so many birds (hummingbirds, wild turkeys, woodpeckers, owls, hawks, even parrots)! And you get to meet Curly the Emu, who is very curious, friendly and totally adorable! The cottage is comfortable and stylish, with many personal touches, very clean, it has everything you may need or think about (plush king bed, softest towels, fridge, ac unit, shower with good water pressure, even snacks:). The yard is so beautiful, with flowers, sitting place, hammock- and nature around. We will be back very soon!

    Ksenia2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Outstanding, beautiful getaway. Highly recommended. If your looking to get away from the city to experience nature and peacefulness this is the place.

    Joshua2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Magical place! We loved the cozy cottage, the horses and emus, and the short and scenic walk into town. The cottage has a coffee machine with plenty of tea/coffee, a fridge, snacks, a hotplate, and a small and clean bathroom. Large bed. No TV, but very good WiFi for your devices. Heater/AC unit. Wonderful outdoor seating. The oak trees give it a sense of privacy. We hope to be back!

    Neil2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • What a fun trip we had! My 2 young children LOVED this place! Leigh is such a warm, easy to talk to, accommodating host. It's serene, quiet and just warms your heart. We definitely will be back :)

    Edita2020-02-20T00:00:00Z
  • Leigh's place is nestled in country mountains about a mile and a half outside of Julian. Comfortable King-size bed, nice amenities, amazing natural scenery. In the fridge was a Tupperware containers with carrots to feed two horses that graze the property. Also there is a wondering Emu that sometimes like to stop by and rest in front of the Cottage. You can't get this at a hotel! Leigh's little country cottage is what makes AirBnB a great alternative.

    Brian2020-02-13T00:00:00Z
  • We had a wonderful time at this beautiful cottage! We met Leigh’s wonderful horses on the first day, and one of the curious emus the next morning. The space, and land are gorgeous, and so close and easy to get to Julian. We had an amazing time.

Safe, clean and relaxing get away in trying times. The casita is private, set apart from the main house. The property is remote enough to see the Milky Way and experience absolute quiet, yet a short drive to trails. Close enough for quick food delivery options. Small kitchenette for light cooking,coffee/tea. Private patio. No TV, but a good WiFi signal. The main house is an art studio/owner’s home. We are detail cleaning all surfaces, linens and handles with disinfectant for your safety.
Seven acre property with guest casita on one side and host’s home and studio on the other. Both the casita and studio are straw bale construction. Toaster oven, single burner, kettle, small fridge for light meal prep. A short trip to town for food pickup or delivery. Each building is facing toward its own spectacular view. The casita is completely private, all you will see out the windows are jack rabbits and beautiful landscape. There is a seating area just outside the back door of the casita for wonderful desert quiet and view. Safest and most relaxing get away we can think of in tough times.
The property is located near the state park in a residential area with large properties. Three miles from restaurants and shops in the town and close to trails. A car is necessary wherever you are staying in Borrego.
  • The perfect place for a quiet respite. Comfortable with great views of Borrego and surrounding mountains. I hope to come back soon.

    Robyn2020-03-19T00:00:00Z
  • Charming and private attached casita that's not too far away from Borrego Springs, but because of its seclusion, feels miles away from everything. A couple of things to know about this place: read the directions on how to find the place carefully - don't just put the address into your GPS; it will steer you wrong. It can be challenging to find a night because it is off a dirt road and there are no street lights to speak of. The room has all the essentials, including a mini-fridge and small toaster oven - good for snacks but that's about it. The bed is a double, not a queen - no big deal, just an FYI for those used to spreading out. The mattress is very firm - good for some, but may be too firm for those expecting soft and fluffy hotel-style mattresses. The WIFI is perfectly good. The shower can get quite hot and has plenty of water pressure. I would definitely stay here again.

    Darren2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Carolanne place is perfect for a desert getaway! The views right out the window are stunning and so easy to get to for a hike. Carolanne was super responsive for hiking suggestions as well as all the other questions I needed answered. We will be back for sure!

    Kim2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • The view from the large windows of the mountains were what I wanted. The open space as well. I use to own a house down the street from here so I knew what to expect and was the reason I booked it. Thank you Carolanne

    Randy2020-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay at this unique casita. It's small, basic, and a little pricey but worth it for the gorgeous setting and mountain and desert views. It's close to town and hiking trails in the state park. I would stay again.

    James2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • What a view!! Comfy clean quiet dark (with lights off of course). Great place to visit.

  • This fortress is the perfect place to get away from all the noise. From sitting out watching humming birds with your morning coffee to star gazing in the evening - this quiet kingdom is an ideal base for a few days hiking or simply hiding away! Fully recommended! ✌️❤️🚀

  • This casita is quiet and calming. We looked at the stars then woke up the next morning and saw the sunrise. We ate at El Borrego and Kesling’s Kitchen. Both were delicious.

The house is located just two miles outside of Julian. The house is on a hillside which has an amazing view. You can see the edge of Julian, all the way into Anza Borrego and on clear days the Salton Sea is visible from the deck. The patio is a great place to sit, sip your locally acquired adult beverage of choice and enjoy the view. Come enjoy Julian, grab a slice of apple pie and sit back and enjoy the slower side of life.
The space available for rent is attached to the main house. This space is the downstairs to the main house but is completely self contained. You'll have your own private entrance, bedroom, bathroom, kitchen, living room and a private patio that has an amazing view. The morning sunrise is something worth setting your alarm clocks for, even if it is the weekend. Though the view is facing east the sunset is worth sticking around for too. The desert view becomes alive with colors skating across the sky. We recently remodeled the entire space top to bottom. We are proud of the finished product and we ask you to keep it looking as good as it did when you arrived outside of the normal cleaning. The interior is mostly all white, with lots of nature light that comes in through the windows and sliding glass doors. The space is decorated with a mix of modern and bohemian. We made an effort to bring some of nature inside in the form of real plants so it can be enjoyed comfortably from within. The place is clean and quiet, a great place to get away and relax. Getting there: We are just over two miles from the heart of Julian. The last half mile is a gravel road and depending on how much rain and snow we have recently had can be a little bumpy . If there is snow in the forecast chains are required to get in and out of the property. Once you are here: There is parking for two cars. Parking is on the side of the garage in the flat gravel area. There are two paths you can take to get the entrance. One is follow the lit gravel path on the backside of the garage to the sidewalk along the side of the house. Two is to walk between the garage and the main house in the breeze way, through the storm door and down the stairs to the sidewalk along the side of the house. Once you're on the sidewalk walk till you hit the private patio and the entrance is through the sliding glass doors (key in lock box) via the patio. Inside the space: Living room: Walk in through the sliding glass door into the living room area. There you find a couch smart TV (there is also a google chromecast attached to stream from your device). There is no antenna, Satellite or cable at the house everything is streamed via wifi. Kitchen: The kitchen is attached to the living room area. The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you'll need for cooking. There is a countertop oven, cooktop, mini fridge, coffee maker, stainless steel sink, pots and pan, dinnerware and utensils. Salt and pepper, olive oil and coffee will be supplied. Bedroom: The bedroom has an oversized closet with shelves that is available for use. A queen sized bed sit in the middle of the room with night stands at either side. A modern chair sit in the corner of the room. Bathroom: Walking into the bathroom there is a vanity with a mirror over the sink. There is a shower, tub combo which will be stocked with shampoo, conditioner and soap. Clean towels will be in the bathroom either hung up or on the shelf. Towels and sheets are washed and disinfected with Clorox after each guest. Patio: You'll have your own private patio to be able to sit out on and enjoy the view. With very few neighbors around you'll have a almost 100% unobstructed view. FYI: You have your own central heat, A/C unit the thermostat located on the wall. We ask that you be conservative with your usage of heat and A/C by not leaving doors or windows open while either of these are running and lowering their usage while you're out. We ask if you have guests that stop by for a visit please give us a notice prior to their arrival. All guest must be at least 24 years in age. No kids or pets are allowed. This space has had a complete remodel and we ask that you respect the home and environment, leaving it how you found it. Verizon and At&t have good cell coverage here but other carriers can be spotty in their coverage but a work around for this is connecting to the wifi. Weather: The weather here can change drastically from day to night. Come prepared for all weather variations including high winds. The main house: There are two adults and a baby that live in the main house. More than likely won't see or hear you unless we cross paths getting in or out of our vehicles or our assistance is needed. We keep the house quiet and there is sound proofing between the two floors.
Come to Julian grab a slice of apple pie. Go for a hike to work it off and in the evening check out the wineries, breweries.
  • The view was incredible, the space super comfortable. Isaiah was an attentive host who took the time to give me tips to deal with the snow since it was a first time for us. Highly recommend!

  • This loft was beyond beautiful! The Vite stole the show, however the inside was such a pleasant surprise. So modern and cozy, I loved every single detail! Not to mention it is EXTREMELY close to the city. You can easily come and go as you please. One of the best Airbnbs I’ve stayed at.

    Sylvia2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • My stay at Isaiah's was amazing! The view is 10x better in person and the place was freshly renovated and very clean. Check-in was seamless. I would book again without question.

  • This is such a cool place to spend the night star gazing. You have a large private deck with a surreal view. Once you are ready to be inside, this cozy suite will be the perfect place to chill. Quick drive to town or hiking trails.

  • The perfect getaway in this cabin on a lake. Panoramic Lake & mountain views. Roomy home, a short drive to town (get some of the famous pie) Wake in the morning to deer and wild turkeys. Great host, went out of his way to accommodate my internet needs for work. We will return. Recommended

    Glenn2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Matt is a super host! He stayed in touch with us by text to make sure we found the place or if we had any issuing getting in the house. The location is beautiful with a full view of the lake. It was just my husband and our dog so we have lots of room to roam around. My husband especially like how easy it was to use the TV! Would definitely recommend this house.

  • My wife and I loved this place. A very new and warm home with all the amenities we needed. Both levels of this home were furnished well complete with wifi, cable, and a great flat screen. A spectacular view situated over looking the lake and distant mountains. The owner was very responsive and attentive. A fun vacation getaway close to many great things to do.

    Robert2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • From the moment that you book your stay at Matt's cabin, he is attentive to detail and makes you feel very special! The cabin is gorgeous, the kitchen stocked with everything you might need, the linens and towels are beautiful, and then there is that amazing view! The layout of the cabin allows for unobstructed views wherever you are, and the deck is big and just perfect for relaxing and watching the boats on the lake. We saw deer early in the morning, hiked around the lake and cooked a big dinner and ate on the deck....it felt like we were a million miles away but we were home in an hour! I cannot recommend Matt's beautiful cabin enough....we will be back!!!

    Christine2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • Wow! The lake and mountain views from EVERY room are spectacular. A very unique property at a reasonable price. Everything was great and Matt was a fantastic host. The bed was very comfortable. I can't wait to come back.

We are conveniently located within walking distance of Julian. Cabin is smaller but cozy. Although town is close, it is very private and peaceful on the property. The property is fenced. We are in a very quiet neighborhood. Strict quiet hours & outside recreational hours enforced. We have lived in Julian our whole lives so we can help you find almost anything you need or could want in our area. We look forward to helping you have a wonderful visit to our neck of the woods~ No pets allowed.
Our cabin is close to Julian yet very quiet. We ask that you respect our neighbors with keeping the noise to a minimum and staying within our property boundaries. Unfortunately we do not offer any cooking facilities. There is a small microwave, apartment size refrigerator, coffee pot & a toaster. The upstairs loft is tight but comfortable. There are two twin beds with a night stand & lamp. The steps up to the loft are very steep and open. If you have children they must be carefully supervised and really need one adult upstairs with them especially for sleeping. The bathroom has a shower only, no tub. Again, small area but user friendly. The downstairs bedroom has a queen size bed & nightstand. The front room has two chairs, sofa type love seat & TV. The heating is propane fireplace. The driveway is steep and looks a bit intimidating at first but really isn't bad. We have two different entrances depending upon weather conditions & personal needs. Our driveway can get a bit tricky in the snow and extreme rains. We gladly can pick you up at a safe location in town (sheriff's substation parking lot) load your items & you into our 4 wheel drive and take you to and from the cabin if needed. We are happy to help accommodate your needs the best that we can. We want you to have the best experience possible at our little cabin and in the town of Julian. It is always good to ask us questions before you book....just in case it isn't what you are looking for....or won't fit your needs. We love Julian and are happy to help recommend other Air BnB hosts if ours doesn't fit. We are a close community so we try hard to look out for one another and also for our guests to enjoy the best stay they possibly can have! NO PETS ALLOWED. Strict Evening Hour Rules
We do have neighbors but far enough apart that it is very private and quiet. Yet, we are close enough that we do have noise restrictions.
  • This was a wonderful experience! Stacy was so kind and accommodating. The cabin is only a 10 minute walk from town and we were able to explore all of main street. I would highly recommend this place to anyone but especially if you are looking to tour the town and greater Julian area. We are avid hikers and Stacy was able to provide some local tips for how to explore the wilderness of Julian. We had a blast!

    Kevin2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • I was visiting Julian to run a marathon. The race ended up getting canceled but I can’t think of a better experience. Stacy’s cabin is clean, comfortable, and cozy. When you check-in get ready to take a load off. The cabin is stocked with snacks and goodies. While the cabin itself is magnificent, the service and friendliness of Stacy is also best in class. Before leaving, Stacy prepared herbal tea and even left a celebratory gift bag before unofficially running the race!!! If this place is ever available book it ASAP. You can thank me, well rather, thank Stacy later.

    Evan2020-03-14T00:00:00Z
  • Cute little cabin, private and quiet. Good value and really helpful host.

    Holley2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Stacy’s log cabin is a MUST stay in Julian. It is an amazing location (within walking distance to downtown), while also giving you a sense of privacy and some amazing views of the valley/mountains. The cabin itself was perfect for my fiancé and I. It was a great size, extremely clean, decor was great, and it had an authentic mountain feel to it. Stacy added some wonderful personal touches as well which was really nice! Ruby (their horse) was also a fun addition to the weekend. Can’t recommend this place enough!!

    Bret2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very cute cabin tucked in the woods, yet very close to town. The cabin was clean, cute and private and there were lots of extra special touches. Stacy was very nice and accommodating and easy to contact! We loved the outdoor fire pit, the stargazing, the peace and quiet and Ruby the horse!

    Loree2020-02-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great, cozy cabin and very close to the main street! Stacy was a great host and very responsive. Would definitely recommend

    Mona2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • The cabin was very clean and Stacy was nice enough to leave a fridge stocked with snacks for us. The amenities that the cabin had also made for a relaxing weekend. We spent mornings and evenings by the firepit outside enjoying the view. We had a lot of fun petting Ruby, the horse. Overall it’s a great little place for an affordable price!

  • This place has everything you would want in an Airbnb— complete privacy, hot tub, fully stocked kitchen, and walking distance to town. We had a wonderful time exploring the nearby state parks in the day and coming home for a soak and a homemade dinner at night. One thing I will note is that the mattress is VERY soft. All around, a wonderful Airbnb.

    Elisa2020-01-16T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful spot! We had a fantastic time in this cute cabin. It was right next to town, which made walking to town very convenient. We would definitely stay again.

    Brittany2020-01-08T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin is a true gem. Nestled in the perfect location, we walked into town each morning for breakfast & went on small hikes nearby. The jacuzzi is a great touch & very private. It made a perfect place for a short and sweet romantic getaway!

    Kathryn2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy log cabin with great modern amenities! Everything is labeled which is so helpful, no fumbling with switches trying to figure things out. Nice private location yet walking distance to shops and restaurants. The fireplace does a great job keeping the place warm and cozy, the bed is super comfy, and the hot tub was so relaxing. The included binder has a great guide to all the local places, and self-checkin was simple. Overall a great experience!

    Sally2019-12-26T00:00:00Z
  • This was a nice little cabin. It was really clean and very close to Main st. My wife and I really enjoyed our stay, checkin and checkout were easy and the inside of the cabin was very nice.

Cactus and Stars is a desert modern duplex close to town. The renovated property has great views of the mountains and stars, as well as a fun and relaxing yard. The residential neighborhood is one block from Christmas Circle and the restaurants and shops along Palm Canyon Rd and is proximate to the new library and other services. Follow us on Instagram @cactusandstars to stay up to date with our latest additions.
The home is furnished with a mix of vintage and new furnishings that compliment the mid century lines of the home and the yard has many relaxing seating areas, a bocce ball court, horseshoe pit, BBQ and outdoor fireplace. Many items have been in our family for years or custom made for the space and help make this a comfortable and special place for us to spend time with friends and family. We hope you enjoy it as well.
The immediate community is a mix of older homes and duplexes as well as undeveloped desert land. Most homes are occupied by families and we find it to be a safe and comfortable community. The neighbors do enjoy spending time outside barbecuing, recreating especially during the cooler winter months. If noise is ever an issue please feel free to let them know or contact us and we will pass along the message.
  • The house is as described and pictured. The kitchen is very well stocked with utensils, dishes pots and pans for cooking and eating. The outdoor grill was clean and ready to go. The beds very comfortable. We ( a group of four) were impressed with the thoughtful touches that made this a good base to explore Anza Borrego Park.

    Bill2020-03-03T00:00:00Z
  • Wonderful place to stay and use as a home base to explore Anza. The desert is beautiful, but it's so relaxing to come back here at the end of the day to rinse out the dust and cozy up with the records, fire, or games. Absolutely loved it! We were two couples and it was a perfect size and layout. Once the second part of the duplex is finished it would make an awesome stay for a slightly larger group as well. We'll be back for sure!

    Tiffany2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Terrific place! Great location. Wonderful hosts. Within the first hour or so of entering the home, I quickly took note and appreciated all the effort that had been put into making this Airbnb an amazing place that has heart and makes you feel welcome. The home offers indoor and outdoor games, front and back areas to relax, a record player (and records!), and so much more that I wasn't able to check out as I spent most of my time in the park. I recommend this place to anyone looking to stay in the area while being close to town. At the time of the rental in Feb 2020, the unit next door was empty/under renovation so there was no one else on the property. One note worth mentioning... the shower head is 5+ feet high, so if you're tall then this may be an issue for you.

    Ben2020-02-06T00:00:00Z
  • Great location and minutes away from Anza Borrego State Park and Ocotillo Wells! If you want to rent dirt bikes or ATV’s, I would recommend Mūy Rapido. The guy there is a one stop shop. Repairs, personal vehicles and has been in the business for 20 years and really took his time getting us set up. The Airbnb is in a small desert neighborhood and next to a home with a family and young children that like to spend their afternoons and evenings outside. The noise is not too noticeable except for the one bedroom closet to their yard. Matt & Aubyn provided ear plugs if needed. The kitchen is well stocked for meal prep and cooking. Matt was kind enough to provide milk/milk alternative for our coffee/tea. If you’re visiting the area, I would recommend Matt & Aubyn’s place! It was perfect for the two of us!

    Ash2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • A great desert home with all the right touches. All around satisfied with the location, amenities and special touches like coffee on hand, grill access, a great back yard with bocce and horseshoes, and fireplace under the stars. A special place for sure. Thank you.

    Drew2020-01-28T00:00:00Z
  • I came out with a friend for a girl’s retreat. Cactus & Stars was the perfect place to relax and reset. Matt & Aubyn provided the perfect outdoor spaces to write, meditate, read, and gaze at the stars. The first night we sat around the mid-century fireplace in the front yard and gazed at the stars. The next morning we watched the sunrise from the backyard. We ate breakfast at the wood slab dining table in the front yard and had a mid-morning yoga session by the palo verde tree. This house is immaculate and the details are wonderful. The kitchen is well appointed and provides you with all that you need to make meals during your stay. There is a bocce ball court, horseshoe pit, and outdoor Jenga. If you feel like playing poker, putting together a puzzle, reading a book, or scorpion hunting they have what you need. I highly recommend scorpion hunting with the scorpion flashlights at night. They also have a telescope for stargazing. I absolutely love this property. I can't wait for my next visit.

    Apryl2020-01-25T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay in Borrego Springs and appreciated the location and convenience of Matt & Aubyn’s place. We enjoyed the retro record player and thought the place was tastefully outfitted with classy and comfortable furnishings. Best of all was the ability to sit around a toasty fireplace on a clear but chilly evening enjoying the night sky. Horseshoe pitch in the backyard was great. All in all a wonderful experience and would not hesitate to book again if I have the opportunity to visit Borrego Springs at a future date.

    David2020-01-22T00:00:00Z
  • We had never been to Borrego Springs and it was insanely lovely! This Airbnb reflects that beauty wonderfully and we would want to stay here everytime we visit! Being able to grill out and enjoy a fire under the stars were incredible perks

This exposure to nature provides a wonderful inspirational relaxing effect. Japanese call it 'Shinrin-Yoku' which translates to 'forest bathing'. The idea is simple: If a person visits a natural area and walks in a relaxed way, there are calming, rejuvenating and restorative benefits to be achieved. Studies have documented reduced stress, lower blood sugar, better concentration, diminished pain, improved immunity... Taking in the forest atmosphere has become a cornerstone of preventive health care and healing in Japanese medicine. Researchers have established a robust body of scientific literature on health benefits of spending time under the canopy of a living forest. Many trees give off organic compounds that support “NK” (natural killer) cells that are part of our immune system's way of fighting cancer. • We had an excellent time at the treehouse! We loved having the options of the 3 different decks to hang out on & enjoy the views but our favorite was definitely the one right off of the house! The dimmable string lights gave it such a cozy feel. The kitchen is fully stocked so we were easily able to cook some home made meals but also enjoyed visiting the nearby restaurant on the lake. We preferred to sleep in the living room next to the fireplace. Don’t forget to bring firewood!

    Marissa2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • I loved it! The “treehouse” balcony was where my friends and I spent the majority of our time. We had great views of the mountain side as well as the lake. Even though we had neighbors, the home felt secluded and very private because of all of the trees. The spa was the perfect touch also! This is the perfect place for a nice getaway :)

    Bethany2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great little cabin with an amazing view! Extra clean and all the comforts you’d expect in your own home. The best part? Sitting on the deck at night and listening to the wind rush through the trees while gazing at stars in a crystal clear sky. Yep, we’ll be back.

  • Great communication, great cabin at Lake Cuyamaca. It was nice having a fire, going in the spa, talking small hikes around. Wish we would've had the snow still, but can't control the weather! Free workout with those steps, phew! My 5 year old daughter LOVED every minute of it. Would highly recommend! Thank you!

    Kevin2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • Into the Woods was amazing! Great spot away from the city commotion but still close to the little town of Julian which was very convenient. The hosts left little touches around the house, including chocolates and robes. The jacuzzi was great and the treehouse had a beautiful view of the lake and mountains. Amenities were very nice and thoughtful. House was clean and warm during our whole stay! 10/10 would recommend this stay for a romantic couples getaway or a family vacation!

  • This really is a special place! We loved the deck/Overlook and the movie theater area. The views are amazing and we had fun walking up to the upper observation deck. The main bed is a very firm memory foam mattress. If you prefer a slightly softer bed, you may want to opt for the sofa in the living room (a queen and also memory foam). We arrived just after a snowstorm. We did have to buy $170 snow chains for a rental car Notre to legally drive up Highway 79 to the rental. The only place we were nervous about slipping was on the switchbacks coming up to the cabin. If you visit in the winter months you should be aware of the possible need for snow chains. However, the area is beautiful in the snow! We enjoyed our three nights there very much, and our three days exploring the area. We found Julian to be an overcrowded tourist town. We did enjoy the drive and hike to Three Sisters Falls, and Green Valley Falls. Get off the road and get away from the crowds :) We are a family of four.

  • Lisa's house, in a small ranch setting, is delightful. It was super clean and the ranch-inspired decor gave it a comfortable and homey appeal. The kitchen is well stocked for cooking meals, the beds were comfortable, and the bathroom sparkling clean. Lisa has added many amenities that made staying there easy and comfy. Communication was excellent. Extra special was a homemade breakfast of fresh farm eggs and pancakes delivered to our door at 8:30 sharp each morning. One of our day's stay was a total wash out, with rain most of the day and lowland flooding. Lisa gave us suggestions of places to go and local restaurants to try that were on higher ground and therefore we could get there. We had a delicious meal at a small Italian restaurant, Romano's. Overall, a great place to stay, especially if you like to be away from the crowds, experience a dark, starry sky, and have an exceptionally quiet night's sleep.

    Kathy2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Host very attentive, friendly, and helpful about local activities/restaurants. Very serene, quiet location.

  • Spectacular place! Great place to relax from the busy city life. Outstanding hospitality! We got home made breakfast every morning and got to feed the animals in the afternoon. Host is very attentive to your requests and will reply very quickly to your questions about the area. Absolutely recommend this place.

    Marisol2020-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • The space is exactly how it is described. It’s a lovely, peaceful and quite ranch house on a small working farm. The space is very clean, warm, bright, inviting and very well appointed. The bed and pillows are so comfortable and the bath towels were very soft! My husband enjoyed the wonderful and tasty breakfasts that Lisa made for us. Lisa is an amazing host, the communication from her is excellent, she responds quickly to messages and is willing to help or offer suggestions at any time. The animals on the farm are great, I wish I had more time to spend with them. Overall we had such a nice stay. If you are looking to get away and be out in nature and have some peace and solitude this is the place for you. A++ experience!

    Sandra2020-01-11T00:00:00Z
  • This was our 2nd time staying at Rock’n M ranch and we had an amazing time! Lisa and her husband are super friendly and accommodating. We had a late check in and they had the heaters turned on for us so it was nice and warm when we arrived. They left us some chocolates and a bottle of champagne, as our stay was over New Years. The place was clean and inviting. Every morning Lisa brings over eggs, pancakes, orange juice and some fruit. The ranch has horses, a donkey, some roaming sheep and various other animals, and you can tell Lisa really cares for them. She provided us with local tips on hiking trails, kid friendly restaurants and other things to check out. I can’t recommend this place enough If you are looking to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and quiet of this rural location. It’s a dark sky community so the night sky looks incredible. The hosts couldn’t have been more accommodating and friendly, and really went above and beyond. 5 stars all the way!

    Kyle2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • Lisa’s ranch is a great spot to relax with the family and interact with ranch animals or head out to Anza Borrego or Julian. Lisa is an incredibly hospital host and very easy to communicate with. Not to mention her tasty breakfasts served every morning!

My father purchased these 8 acres in the early 1960's from award winning author Scott O'Dell who wrote Island of the Blue Dolphins, and my father built our cabin. Our family, Dad, Mom, Johnny, and me, planted nearly all of the trees you see on our hilltop. We have many happy memories here and we want you to create some of your own! We call our hilltop "Flat Top" because it is identified on geodetic survey maps. ( See photo of geodetic map and "Flat Top" marker that sits on top of our hill in my photo gallery.) We are located 1.6 mile from historic town of Julian, 1/2 mile from Menghini and Volcan Mountain Wineries, an easy walk, and about a mile from Volcan Mountain Wilderness Preserve, for hiking!
  • My family and I stayed at Mary’s cabin for a weekend getaway to take in the fresh air, catch some fish, and eat lots of pie. We were so impressed with how clean and organized the cabin was and really appreciated the notebook where she left instructions on where to find things in the cabin. The notebook also included lots of information on things to do in Julian and in the surrounding areas. The entire cabin was clean, and the beds were comfortable - especially the pillows! The outside patio decks were great for watching the sunset and taking in the fresh air. The kitchen had everything we needed and were happy to see a toaster oven was available to use. Our favorite part about the cabin was the huge windows that allow for panoramic views of the many pine tress she has on her property. My family and I will definitely consider staying at Mary’s place again if it is available on our next trip to Julian.

    Nicolette2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Mary is such a sweetheart and made renting this cabin more than easy and enjoyable! Mary and John are wonderful people with a gorgeous, more than welcoming vacation home. I would absolutely rent this cabin again!

  • The house on Flat Top Mountain was a great place for our girls get away weekend. Mary is a terrific host and had the house ready and welcoming for our arrival. The views from the house are beautiful and the beds are comfy. The house was clean and the kitchen well stocked for our use. There is no WiFi but it was not missed. We got good cell signals and Mary provides a good selection of books and DVDs if you feel the need. We enjoyed relaxing so much that we didn’t even use the TV. An added bonus is that the town of Julian and the Julian Pie Company with its delicious pies and apple cider donuts is just a short drive or a good walk away. We had a terrific time at Mary’s house on Flat Top Mountain.

    Lori2020-01-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place is beautiful and so close to town while still being private and surrounded by beautiful trees. One bathroom which may be tricky if you plan to have a lot of people staying there, but it worked fine for us.

  • Mary’s Flat Top cabin was nothing short of amazing. The cabin was spacious and well appointed.... and the views! Wow! We stayed here for Thanksgiving, during a winter snow storm, and we were cozy and warm inside the cabin. The kitchen had all the basics needed to complete our meal. Plenty of games, puzzles and dvds to keep us occupied. Once the snow stopped we had the chance to hike around the property. Mary’s communication was excellent throughout our entire stay and her hospitality/thoughtfulness went above and beyond our expectations. Mary, thanks so much for sharing your cabin with us! We can’t wait to return when the weather warms up!

    Jennifer2019-11-30T00:00:00Z
  • This was our second visit to Mary’s cabin in Julian and it just gets better every time. You cannot beat the views, especially the sunset. We attended a wedding at Sacred Mountain and this home is only a few miles away, perfect place to stay! We went into town early to get pizza and pie and enjoyed our leftovers throughout the weekend. We saw deer and wild turkeys too. This has now become a yearly visit and we can’t wait to return next year! Thank you! Linnea

  • I was participating in a wolf event at the California Wolf Center and needed to be there very early in the morning, so I had to spend the night in the Julian area. I found Mario's place and thought it would be perfect for me. The bed is comfortable, there are plenty of viewing options on the TV. I know there's a gorgeous view but the weather conditions when I was there were rain, fog and wind storm so unfortunately I couldn't enjoy it! Maybe next time. I would definitely come back to Mario's place for another stay.

We spent over a year lovingly renovating and remodeling this vintage fire lookout cabin into a luxury vacation rental with a spacious Hot Springs spa. The two-bedroom, one-bath cabin is just over a mile from the historic town of Julian, yet it’s a private sanctuary with panoramic forest and Volcan Mountain Preserve views.
THE STORY OF OUR CABIN The Julian Chamber of Commerce describes the town like this: “Julian, a state Historical District, is a former gold mining village nestled in the mountain forest. Julian is San Diego County’s year-round romantic retreat.” My children and I moved to San Diego five years ago, and one day my young daughter Samantha and I visited Julian. We were enamored by a sense of stepping back in time, and by the pristine beauty of the surrounding mountains and forests. We stopped by the Chamber of Commerce and noticed a tourism review of Julian written in 1870. Mary Morse, a schoolteacher from New England had arrived by horse and buggy and wrote: “After passing a ravine and ascending a sharp and rocky hill, the city of Julian in all its glory burst upon us. The sun was just setting and shown with that golden light so peculiar to California. I could have shouted with joy at the very sight. The pines and oaks were a magic green and every cabin and shanty nestled amongst them had a strangely enchanted look.” Samantha and I could not have described how we felt about Julian better, though nearly a century and a half had passed since those words were written. Later that day as we strolled past picturesque historic buildings and then down a quaint lane, my daughter turned to me and said, “Mom, will you always keep a cottage in Julian?” After three years of searching, we finally found the right property. It's situated in a quiet forested neighborhood just over a mile from town. It sits at the end of a long drive on its own hillside facing Volcan Mountain. It's surrounded by old-growth pine, manzanita and several types of oak, so it has a wonderful sense of solitude and privacy. Historically built as a lookout site for volunteer firemen, the cabin overlooks a breathtaking vista of forests and mountains. The cabin itself was in sad shape, but still captured the incredible charm and quality with its high-beamed knotty pine ceiling and picture windows in every room. It took a full year of hard work extensively renovating and remodeling, including adding a new energy-efficient roof 50-year roof, rain gutters, foundation work, beautiful new decks, gutting and total renovation inside, but the end result was worth all the effort. Every time we return to our cabin, we are comforted once again by a feeling of traveling back in time to a simpler era. The songs of mountain birds and breezes rippling through majestic trees fill our ears. The beauty of the forest and Volcan Mountain amaze us. It seemed natural to name our cottage “The Enchanted Lookout." THE ENCHANTED LOOKOUT: We recreated the home so that it looks like the historic home it is, yet contains every modern comfort and convenience. Our two-bedroom one bath 600 square foot cabin feels larger than it is because of high ceilings, large picture windows, and expansive views. WE DESIGNED THE SPACE TO BE SAFE FOR THOSE WITH ALLERGIES OR CHEMICAL SENSITIVITIES: The new highest quality forced air heat and cooling system contains a whole-house air purification system with HEPA filtration for the cleanest possible air. It also uses the newest chlorine-free R-410A refrigerant system that is ozone-friendly and non-toxic. We installed new 3/4 inch thick solid oak flooring so dust mites or other allergens found in the carpet will not irritate our guests. HIGH-END APPLIANCES AND OTHER DETAILS: 1. A new Samsung range and convection oven with hood and counter-top microwave 2. A Bosch dishwasher makes doing dishes easy. 3. A retro red designer SMEG refrigerator 4. The kitchen is well-equipped with new cooking ware, blender, crockpot, electric teapot, and coffee maker. You’ll also find some rare antique utensils. Basic condiments, spices, and coffee are included. Each group also receives a little gift of wine and chocolate (red or white, dark or milk chocolate). 4. A Jotul Norwegian wood-burning stove decorates the living room if one wants to watch the flames dance and reflect off our new 3/4 ” solid oak floors, or push a button for forced air cooling/heat. Please enjoy our collection of vintage records! 5. A new apple-red LG brand stack-able washer and dryer is concealed behind sliding doors for in-house laundry convenience. 6. A gorgeous slipper-style porcelain tub looks like an antique but it’s brand new and includes a convertible tub/standing shower feature. 7. High-end mattresses and luxurious bedding invite sweet dreams. We have a California King pillow top mattress in one bedroom, and a full-sized memory foam mattress in the second bedroom. Both mattresses have natural organic latex toppers for protection from allergens. Also, all pillows use allergen blocking covers. Sometimes people want to bring up to six people, so in the living room, we added a beautiful leather sofa that pulls out to a queen bed with an upgraded jell memory-foam mattress. Please note the full-size bed sleeps children or a smaller adult only. 8. A luscious five-person Hot Springs Spa and sleek Saber grill wait to be savored on one of our large decks overlooking exquisite forest and mountain scenery. 9. High-speed internet lets us stay connected, and wall-mounted flat-screen televisions in both bedrooms provide Dish Network with HBO, On Demand, and Showtime. 10. Last but not least, we filled the now beautiful space with art, classic books and antiques, many of which we had discovered and restored ourselves. A LITTLE HISTORY AND THE THE LAND: Julian was founded in 1869 when a local rancher and former slave named Fred Coleman discovered gold. For thousands of years before that, the Volcan mountains, the area that is now Julian, and portions of the desert below were heavily populated by Native Americans, and evidence of their occupation is everywhere. On hikes in the Volcan Mountains, we have seen ancient and massive oaks sheltering boulders pitted all over the surface with myriad large mortars (bowl-shaped holes in the stone once used by Native Americans to grind acorns and other seeds into a meal). The cabin overlooks the dividing line of where the high forest becomes the high desert. It’s almost a straight line down the face of Pechacho Peak (The highest peak in the Volcan Mountains)… to the left is forest, to the right is desert. Views from The Enchanted Lookout are of forest and mountain but walk up the road a block and you'll see a fantastic view of the Anza Borrego Desert. As a former student of Anthropology and Archaeology at UCLA, I was fascinated by what this geographic layout represents: Indigenous people all over the world considered geographic boundary areas, where different elements met, (freshwater/saltwater, mountain/desert, etc.,) to be powerful places of healing, transformation, and restoration. They were thought to be important places to make decisions or guide life choices, and Native American vision quests were often held in such places.
The Enchanted Lookout is only one and a half miles from the historic and bustling town of Julian, located in the quiet forested neighborhood of Whispering Pines, yet in in own secluded location. Enjoy our Daffodils & Lilacs in the spring, fall colors and sometimes a beautiful winter snow storm. WILDLIFE: Wild animals abound in the area. Besides the wonderful bird life we often see deer, raccoons and other wild creatures. PROXIMITY TO ATTRACTIONS: Walk or take very short drive to town with its restaurants, shopping, gold mine and other historic tours and museums, and just an all-around fun town. WINERIES: Julian and the surrounding areas have become a mecca for the creation of excellent wines, cider, craft beer breweries, and even mead! Walk or take a short drive to a world-class tasting of these beverages. The Nickel Beer Company, a craft beer brewery, is an easy walk from the cabin. Menghini Winery and Volcan Mountain Wineries are just 2 1/2 miles from the house. There are also several wine tasting venues in town. My favorite restaurant is Jeremy's on the Hill. It's gourmet, and the food is just great. The Enchanted lookout is about an hour's drive from the great city of San Diego, with its culture, nightlife, beautiful beaches, museums, The San Diego Zoo, Safari Park, Legoland, and SeaWorld. HIKING TRAILS: Walk or take a short drive to stunning hiking trails of the Volcan Mountain Preserve. Others nearby located Heise State Park, Cuyamaca State Park, the surround Cleveland National Forest, and the Anza Borrego desert below. Fish for Bass, Trout and even Sturgeon at nearby Lake Cuyamaca. And don't forget apple picking in the fall or snow sledding in winter. Jess Martin Park is minutes away and with it's baseball field, playground, barbecue pits and picnic tables. Drive down nearby Banner Grade to the Anza Borrego desert below for beauty and natural mineral hot springs.
  • Truly such a beautiful space with a great view to match. The photos do make it look bigger than it is, but it was perfect for my stay. Tamara was super quick to respond and very thoughtful. Can’t wait to come back.

    Kimberly2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • Chris's place is the perfect cozy getaway right off the main road. If you find it available for your dates - grab it before its gone!

    Karl2020-03-13T00:00:00Z
  • Chris’ place was amazing. The place was spotless, maybe a 2 minute drive from downtown Julian and very private. 10/10 would recommend. I fell in love with it as soon as I walked in. The fireplace alone kept the whole place warm, but a space heater is available if you like it toastier. My fiancé and I will definitely be back.

  • Great cozy place! Had a great stay

    Tyler2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my girlfriend loved our 3 day stay here. It's small but comfortable and we loved the stone walls and little gas fireplace. Would definitely recommend if you want a place in Julian and don't need a lot of space.

    Molly2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • We loved our visit, we booked same day and she was welcoming and had the house ready for us same day. The house is homey, comfortable, clean, newly redone, and we felt very relaxed and at home in it. Star gazing before we went to bed and waking up to the sound of roosters and cows was just great! No complaints at all! Thanks Kamisha!

    Nathan2020-02-24T00:00:00Z
  • One of my top 2 all time favorite Airbnbs. If you want to get a feel of the “old” way of living in the area by staying in an updated, charming and well thought out home (on a beautiful, natural and large plot of land) this is your place. Centrally located and easy to find. Wonderful amenities and special touches. Loved the comfortable bed and wonderful claw foot bath/shower. Can’t wait to go back.

    Vicki2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very nice and cozy. Great location for tourists.

    Hovo2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing space. Kamisha takes pride in opening up her home to newcomers by offering the most special touches. It feels like a home away from home. The location itself was prime considering it was neatly in the middle between Julian and Ramona. Santa Ysabel has its own fair share of special sites and we were happy to have experienced it all. It’s safe to say we’ll be back again!

    Stephanie2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • This adorable little farmhouse is the perfect getaway. Kamisha's place is absolutely charming and the location is perfect. You have the Calico Cidery just north down the road and if you keep going you'll reach the Wynola Pizza house that has local live music on Thursdays. Then just opposite, south down 79 (maybe 3 minutes!) you run into Julian, which is a lovely little town, I really enjoyed Julian Beer Co. "Regulars Wanted" is a great cafe with wifi to get some work done. After a day of exploring it was always nice to come back to a warm farmhouse that had just about everything I needed. I highly recommend this place and hope to be back. Thanks Kamisha!

    Kelsey2020-02-11T00:00:00Z
  • Such a clean and cute place! We enjoyed our time here

    Carlos2020-01-27T00:00:00Z
  • Kamisha’s place was much better than expected! The farmhouse felt very homey and was perfect for a little get away. It’s very close to the main part of Julian and we were able to pick up a pie and bake it in the oven while we relaxed. We had everything we needed, provided. And we were even greeted by some friendly chickens upon arrival. Definitely would love to come back!

  • Jayleen's place is located in probably the most beautifully landscaped residential community in Borrego Springs. It is a pleasure to see all the remarkable specimens of cactus and other desert species. The community also offers a hot tub, salt-water pool, gym, golf course, tennis and pickle ball courts and more. The rental is a 60's or 70's vintage double-wide manufactured home. It is showing some wear and tear but we enjoyed our stay. We had everything we needed, all appliances were in good working order, the bed was comfortable and Jayleen stocked an ample supply of necessities (toilet paper, paper towels, napkins, ice, pots, pans, cutlery, towels, linens, etc., etc.). What we enjoyed most was having lunch in the small yard where we could watch a variety of birds: finches, warblers, verdins, doves, mockingbirds, bluebirds.

We also have a little bit of Disney History located on the property! The Main house was built for and occupied by Disney animator Oillie Johnston, who once had a complete train track through the entire property and was the home for his operating steam engine Locomotive "The Marie E". *The property at times may be shared with other guest's either camping or staying in the main house. **Being an off grid Shed we have had to modify a few everyday amenities in order to accommodate our guest. This includes an extremely clean porta potty which may be shared with other guests at times. However the outdoor shower is private and is for the Deer Shed guests only** ***We also ask that you bring your food in an ice chest for your food storage. If you do not have one please let us know before your arrival and we can make one available for you. ****The kitchen space is minimal camping style. At night stargaze on the porch while listening to the soothing music of rustling leaves. History of the Grounds: This city escape was carefully selected to be where Cahuilla and Kumeyaay Native American tribes once roamed. The rocks in the outdoor space have grinding holes (mortars) once used for food preparation by the local tribes. The space is ideal for musicians, creative individuals, and meditations. The tranquil atmosphere makes for a grounding experience allowing ones own creativity to flow to the surface. We encourage you to bring your instruments, meditation practices and any art of your choosing. The space feels as though it was designed perfectly to harness ones own creative ambition. The Railroad: The Cahuilla Crossing Railroad was built in 1967. Walt Disney's animator and former owner of the home, Ollie Johnston had this railroad commissioned. Ollie contributed to films such as Pinnochio, Bambi, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Peter Pan, Robin Hood, and the list goes on. Ollie was a train enthusiast and was gifted by Disney parts of the train track that came directly from Disneyland. Water: All water is natural running ground water and sourced from the on site well. Wildlife: The location is home to wildlife such as deer, wild turkey, blue jay, falcon, hawk, woodpecker, roadrunner, humming birds, and many other friends. Latitude: The grounds are exactly on the 33 degree latitude. We also offer some light breakfast snacks for our guest as well as a variety of teas and coffees for your enjoyment.
The neighbors are awesome. It is a very quiet remote area . We are just a few short miles to Main Street in Julian where you can enjoy some famous Julian pie and do a little shopping. There are many hiking trails to enjoy as well.
  • This place was better than I expected. The shed was very clean and the bed was comfy! We really enjoyed the tea selection and how peaceful and quiet the area was. We woke up to an amazing view and admired the cows & horses nearby. Would def recommend.

  • A great relaxing spot to unwind at. Close enough to town and fun trails. We would definitely stay here again.

  • The Deer Shed was a fun place to stay. It was great opening the entire front window/wall to enjoy the scenery. We came on a very cold and wet day and the Shed kept us comfortable and cozy.

    Raul2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • The space was quiet cozy and perfect for 2 people. The garage door opening was by far the best part of the entire stay as it offers a unique experience for a morning in bed view of the land. The room was in very clean condition and I felt comfortable in it the entire stay. Definitely recommend

    Gabriel2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • You definitely feel like you are getting away from it all. Theres a beautiful view from the shed and got to see some deer and coyotes and could hear Turkeys off in the distance. Exploring the property a plus since my wife went out to the area to hike and explore. Super close to the Main st and the local shops and restaurants. The shed is great and lots of nice extras that they include. Had everything you would need for a long stay. We only stayed one night but would like to go back and stay longer.

    Jorge2020-02-28T00:00:00Z
  • The Deer Shed is one of the coziest getaways one could ask for! We arrived after dark in the chilly rain, but the check in instructions made it easy to find the place and make our way inside where it was nice and warm in a matter of minutes with the space heater. The location is ideal, just outside of the hustle and bustle of downtown Julian, and not too far from some amazing hikes. This was the perfect place to rest our tired bodies after a day of outdoor adventuring. The mini kitchen had all the essentials to make a simple pasta dinner and delicious breakfast hash. Watching the morning fog dissipate was amazing to watch from the incredibly comfortable bed. We read a few reviews before that raised concerns about privacy, but it seems that these have been addressed as there were curtains on all the windows. Sparkly clean, cozy beyond belief, and delightfully remote, this is the perfect weekend getaway destination!

    Sarah2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • The deer shed was an absolute pleasure to stay at. Amazing star gazing at night, sparkling clean and cozy cabin, super quiet and relaxing area, and convenient to Julian (which has wonderful apple pie). We loved the giant garage-door-like window that opened up the cabin to the outdoors. The porta potty is close by and very well maintained, and the outdoor shower was quite refreshing!

    Donna2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • My partner and I LOVED staying here. Sitting on the bar stools with the sliding door open was absolutely wonderful! The shed is just a quick drive to either Julian or Wynola! (we personally like Wynola more!) Highly recommend!

My place is located in the historic town of Julian, California, close to apple pie, wine tasting, craft beer and gold mine tours. T's is just 2 miles east of town, in the quiet neighborhood of Whispering Pines. Built in 1928, it is a cozy, rustic mountain cabin perfect for relaxing and watching the wildlife including deer, wild turkeys and a wide variety of birds. With personal touches that make it feel like you are staying at a friend's place, it's perfect for couples and solo adventurers.
This cabin was built in 1928 as a YMCA meeting hall, and was originally just 1 room with an outhouse! The beautiful wood floors and windows are original and add a rustic feel to this comfortable space. *Bedroom: is actually an alcove, there is no door (that's the next project). It has a comfy queen size bed and small closet. *Kitchen: is fully stocked with pantry items, snacks and bevies. I do my best to keep juice, yogurts and fruit available for your breakfast. There is a fridge, stove/oven, coffee maker and microwave. *Bathroom: recently remodeled with river rock flooring, hammered copper sink, rustic barn stall shower and Minnesota barn wood vanity. Plenty of towels and toiletries are provided for you. *Dining area: with seating for 4 at an antique ice cream parlor table handed down from my Auntie Edna. *Fireplace: freestanding, very romantic! (Duraflame type logs only) And, T's Place is pet friendly! Fur babies love the cabin but it is important to note that they may not be left alone at, or inside, the cabin. Even in their crate. This cabin is best situated for 2 adults. However, exceptions are made, and a child size cot or pack and play are available upon request. Feel free to contact me before booking. Nightly rates and minimum stays may be increased on Holiday Weekends and discounts are offered to repeat guests. Be sure to contact me with any special requests or questions before booking. I'm looking forward to sharing my Happy Place with you! T.
Whispering Pines is a quiet, family neighborhood that is great for long walks and bird and wildlife watching. Sit on the deck and listen to the breeze in the pines and you'll see how the neighborhood got its name. It is a special area, I grew up in the house next door!
  • We had a great weekend at T’s place. The cabin is very cozy and has many details to make you feel at home. Close to Julian and the local activities. Great place for relaxing!

  • Great place and Teresa has everything you could ever need for a quiet weekend getaway!

    Kevin2020-01-19T00:00:00Z
  • It was Cozy and contained interesting Antiques. It was quiet cold when we arrived and I would recommend using the fireplace as your main source of heat. We went through 10 logs for 2 nights. The bathroom is awesome in terms of aesthetics but keep in mind it is country so hot water can be temperamental. The driveway can also be seen as a maneuver. However we found it lovely.

    Sophia2020-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Great place, private and everything you need for a getting away weekend or romantic get away also very relaxing, and if you forget something she will mail it to you. I forgot my nice watch and she will mail it to me. Hope you enjoyed it like we did.

  • It’s a cute rustic hideaway. I perfect hideout for a couple to get away from it all and reset with one another. If you are a bird lover, you will be amazed at the feeders and all the various birds that come to visit. Teresa is amazing! She’ll do all she can to make your stay wonderful!

Desert Sands Vintage RV Park est. 1960 and is the oldest RV park in Borrego Springs which has mostly vintage trailers, some of the best landscaping for miles, breathtaking views, epic sunsets, bright starry nights and happy guests. If you've ever wanted to stay in a vintage trailer park, this is the place. The pool is warm year round. Borrego Springs has warm sunny weather year round so if you love the outdoors you will enjoy staying here. We have guests that have been coming back for years.
Please read my reviews and the kind words guests have written about this vintage trailer location. If this trailer is booked on the dates you need please check my 10 other trailer listings in the same vintage trailer park. A/C FOR THE SUMMER MONTHS + NICE POOL AND JACUZZI AND WARM HEATER FOR WINTER "Cabo" is an aluminum trailer that is open and spacious inside with a very nice outdoor chill area. We have given "Cabo" a colorful Mexican flair. There is lots of storage for your belongings. The bathroom has a toilet and stand up shower. You can prepare awesome meals in the kitchen. It sits on its own corner space close to the open desert in the cool shade of our solar panel. The trailer has many windows and has a very airy feeling with spectacular views of the mountains from the living room and bedroom. Even though to the untrained eye the desert looks dry and desolate, once you spend a night in the middle of it all you may hear the howl of a coyote in the distance, in the morning you might wake up to the sounds of different kinds of birds, while sitting outside drinking your morning coffee you'll see rabbits, humming birds, lizards etc. At the center of the vintage trailer park is a pool, Jacuzzi, laundry room and Tikki Hut with wifi - once you make your reservation I will provide you the wifi info. We normally try to leave some snacks and treats for our guests so please help yourself and enjoy your stay.
Desert Sands RV Park is just a stroll to Anza Borrego State Park, the largest in the state , art and culture, restaurants, bars and dining, great views, and the rustic artsy town of Borrego Springs that doesn't even have a traffic light or any big chain stores. There are numerous golf resorts within a 5 mile radius. There are hundreds of miles of hiking, mountain biking, road biking, off roading close by, mountain views, and points of interest. The state run visitor center us just up the street and has many interesting things regarding life in the prehistoric desert.
  • Truly it is glamping. The trailer has all the amenities and most trailers I have stayed in do not. Super cute place and the people are nice. Highly recommended

    Peter2020-03-11T00:00:00Z
  • This little "glamping" trailer in Borrego Springs was wonderful. The trailer was clean and well-appointed and the park is in a great location. The host, Warren was exceptional and very friendly and responsive in his communication. I would highly recommend staying here.

    Carolyn2020-03-04T00:00:00Z
  • We had a delightful stay in the trailer and everything was almost perfect. Our only real complaint was the lack of a handle on the hot water faucet in the shower which we did not discover until bedtime the first night. Fortunately, we had the number for an onsite person who could help us and he came immediately. Everything else was cozy, comfortable and convenient and we would definitely return. Perfect place to explore Anza Borrego from.

    Mimi2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • Very inspiring place, a wonder spot to rest after a god day of hiking or stargazing.

    César2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Clean place in a cool trailer park. Warren was quick to to respond to any questions we had.

    Jason2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Warren's "Glamper" was the perfect spot to stay for our Anza Borrego vacation. We were 5 min away from the top attractions in the city and 25 min away from Ocotillo Wells. The stay was exceptionally clean and had all the amenities listed in the post. Warren communicated with me during our entire trip to ensure we fully accommodated!

    Amanda2019-12-27T00:00:00Z
  • This camper is in a beautiful location - I brought my kids and service dog: I was charged a extra cleaning fee when dog hair was found in the camper - but I get it. I do think the hosts were great with communicating and were fair - would recommend to any friend or family member!

    Deborah2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • The Cabo was a great place for us to stay while in Borrego springs. We especially liked the patio at night. We had everything we needed and would come back again. Thanks Warren!

"GumDrop" is a 13 ft. Tear Drop trailer all hand crafted out of wood, metal and aluminum. The interior has two closets and some shelves. There are doors on both sides of the trailer so that you don’t have to climb over your partner to exit the trailer. At the back of the trailer there is a hatch back that opens up to reveal the cute kitchen with sink where you can make basic meals, prepare coffee, tea etc Included is a propane burner to prepare meals. Located right in the edge of the desert
Please read my reviews and the kind words guests have written about this location. If this trailer is booked I have multiple listings on Airbnb in the same vintage trailer park. The trailer is sitting in a very cool rustic artsy vintage park - Desert Sands Vintage RV Park est. in 1960 and is the oldest RV park in Borrego Springs which has mostly vintage trailers, some of the best landscaping for miles, breathtaking views, epic sunsets, bright starry nights and happy guests. If you've ever wanted to stay in a cool vintage trailer, this is heaven. The pool is warm year round. Borrego Springs has warm sunny weather year round so if you love the outdoors you will enjoy staying here. We have guests that have been coming back for years. It sits on its own space right on the edge of the open desert about 200 yds from the pool, Jacuzzi, bathrooms, public showers and laundry room. There is a mini deck for chilling out behind the trailer with some chairs. There is also a fire pit. The trailer has 2 windows and has a very airy feeling when the ceiling fan is turned on. We suggest hanging out by the pool or staying in the shade during the warmer months because during the day it might get warm inside the trailer. Spectacular views of the mountains on three sides. Even though to the untrained eye the desert looks dry and desolate, once you spend a night in the middle of it all you may hear the howl of a coyote in the distance, in the morning you might wake up to the sounds of different kinds of birds, while sitting outside drinking your morning coffee you might see rabbits, humming birds, lizards, coyotes, roadrunners etc. Borrego Springs is a dark sky community meaning there are no bright white lights and people use deep orange lights on homes and buildings so that the stars and moon can shine as bright as possible. Stargazers come from all over the world to view the incredible night sky in Borrego Springs
Desert Sands RV Park is just a stroll to Anza Borrego State Park, the largest in the state , art and culture, restaurants, bars and dining, great views, and the rustic artsy town of Borrego Springs that doesn't even have a traffic light or any big chain stores. • Great place to spend a weekend getaway!

    Thao2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • As a seeker of alternative lodging during my travels, this was up there as one my favorites. The accommodation is a special experience in itself, but the greater site community and the surrounding landscape made our stay here truly exceptional.

    Roy2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • First time ever sleeping in a Teardrop & really liked it. Even with heat, which obviously I knew about it, it was a good stay. Exactly what I wanted. Quite, calm & enough for me alone. Had a great experience cooking on the open with the desert view. The pool and bathrooms were perfect. I was a little bummed that the light string on top of the camping area was not working but still a cool place to relax. Went alone and still felt safe and comfy.

  • Very cute converted home. Wouldn't call it a tiny home but more of a very cozy cabin. Plenty of room for 2 adults and a pup. The wood stove works like a champ. Had a good stay, and the pups enjoyed it too.

  • This place was everything we wanted it to be, exactly as described, remote area perfect for a nice getaway from the hustle and bustle. Shirley and Rich were great hosts and very responsive, they let our pup stay with us and even helped us when he got out! They really went above and beyond to make our weekend special. I absolutely recommend! P.s. bring a carrot or apple for Trigger, he’s super sweet!

    Elizabeth2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Julian Pines Tiny House is a great place to stay in Julian. It's a little quirky and well, tiny, so perhaps not for everyone but we enjoyed our stay. Trigger the horse is a sweetheart, there were plenty of deer and the neighborhood owl was in good voice. The wood stove keeps the cabin nicely warm and the wifi worked great. What more could you want?

    J. Chris2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Great tiny house! My boyfriend and I wanted a small weekend getaway and this was the perfect place and pet friendly as well! We had 2 dogs with us and the house size was just right! There is a dog fee of $25 per dog, so I think everyone should be aware, should you choose to bring your dogs! Shirley was gracious enough to provide doggy bags and food/water bowls for both dogs! There is also firewood provided for the wood stove which WILL heat up the entire home! Totally awesome! Comfy bed and clean sheets! Would highly recommend for a quiet getaway in charming town of Julian!
