Places to stay in Hot Springs

Places to stay in Hot Springs
A quaint house built in the 1920's, filled with Gramma's charming furniture and cowgirl memorabilia. It is in a small town quiet neighborhood three blocks from the World Famous Mammoth Site, a ten minute walk from historic downtown Hot Springs with Evans Plunge Natural Hot Springs and area restaurants. It is very convenient to Wind Cave National Park, Angostura State Park and Lake, Custer State Park, The Wild Horse Sanctuary and all Black Hills attractions.
Guest has full use of my main floor suite consisting of 610 sq. feet. My house is located in a quiet neighborhood with wide streets. It is perfect for walking and biking. I will provide a fresh-baked loaf of bread either wheat or gluten-free. I provide fresh coffee beans, coffee mill, french press, or electric coffee maker. My backyard organically fed chickens provide my guests with fresh eggs. You are welcome to any condiments or whatever you can find in my frig! Cooking utensils, dishes etc. are provided.
My neighborhood is near local city parks, a quick walk to historic downtown with sandstone buildings listed on the Historic Register, and beautiful Freedom Trail which follows along beautiful Fall River.
  • Claudia's place was a great place to stay for someone who wants the whole place to themselves on a tight budget. The place felt like home and was very clean. She had all the things you could have needed to shower. She made homemade bread for us and it was delicious. I would recommend Claudia's place to anyone I know.

  • Perfect place to stay when visiting the area. The house has everything a guest needs and it is walking distance to town and nice creek walk.

  • Claudia’s cottage is a cozy place to stay and perfect as a base for exploring the area. It’s very convenient to the awesome Mammoth Site and downtown Hot Springs, and for day trips to Custer State Park, Wind Cave, Mt. Rushmore, Badlands...

  • This was a perfect location to explore Custer and near by attractions. We enjoyed our stay at Claudia’s Cowboy Cabin. The eggs and bread were delicious. Highly recommend staying here!

  • An absolute gem...if you are planning to be in the area, and her place is free, book it!

    Brent2019-10-08T00:00:00Z
  • A tight schedule prevented us from enjoying Claudia's cute cottage for more than one night, but thanks to her hospitality we felt instantly at home. The beds were comfy and her home baked bread was crazy delicious. We enjoyed the fun vintage western touches throughout the cottage; the ambiance definitely added to the enjoyment of our stay. Highly recommend! Emma Devine Little Rock, AR

  • There was a housekeeping issue with cabin #2 but Kara was quick to respond and get me situation in cabin #3 instead. This was a cozy little space that was perfect for a quick stop on a road trip. It was very clean and comfortable. The sunrise views were pretty cool being on top of the hill!8 The driveway up begins pretty steep but it was well plowed and I had no issues with an SUV.

Host is very welcoming and helpful. Don't waste your time with a big box hotel, this is where the real experience is. ✌️

  • This place is beautiful and interesting!

  • Can’t say enough how much we enjoyed the Flat Iron Inn Airbnb! I wouldn’t change a thing; Hot Springs , SD is a town I never thought I’d end up in but I am so happy my boyfriend and I stumbled across this town on our cross country road trip. The beautiful natural scenery coating this small town and all the great history (especially the mammoth museum)...just wow. The Flat Iron Inn made our short trip to Hot Springs just that much better...we loved the decor, cleanliness, hospitality, tea and coffee, the library and sitting area, bathroom was so clean and well stocked. One of the best airbnb’s we’ve stayed in and loved the old time-authentic atmosphere, we seriously hope to come back if even for a nights stay! Thanks again Leora for the amazing hospitality, comfortable space and helpful/quick responses. Great stay overall.

    Kasey2019-10-28T00:00:00Z
  • I really enjoyed my stay at the Flat Iron. The room was beautifully done. I LOVED the huge soft comfortable bed and the toasty warm floors. The hostess was beyond accommodating and graciously offered solution to make my 3 day stay comfortable. The space is not just a place to stay but an experience all of its own and very reasonably price.

  • Nice modern cabin that is secluded up on a hill and also convenient driving distance to downtown. We have been to Hot Springs a couple of times before and always enjoy soaking in the hot springs at Evans Plunge.

    Jo2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great spot! Tom was a very accommodating host and everything was exactly as described. Would love to stay there again!

    Kim2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Definitely a place in the woods, fairly quiet, a little hard for me to find, but I also got in late and googles directions took me in the back way. Place was super cute and comfy

    Kim2019-09-12T00:00:00Z
  • Nice cabin! It was pretty clean overall but the floors had some minor debris & the air conditioning/heating unit in the living room had a ton of hair, dirt, crumbs, junk, etc in the vent that you could see. Smelled a little funny. There’s a list of chores to be done before leaving which is understandable as some people could leave it very messy, but to strip the beds & towels & take out trash, load dishwasher & tidy up was a bit off putting when you’re getting up early to head home on a long road trip. I’m all for tidying up on my own anyway, but the trash & bedding part was a little much when you’re already trying to pack up & remember all your own stuff. But there wasn’t a cleaning fee that I remember & I understand having to remind others to keep a clean space. Overall I would stay again. Hot springs is wonderful!

    Victoria2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Enjoyed the place again for a second year. We love the cozy feel and the fact it’s right up the hill from Evan’s Plunge!

    Eric2019-08-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great Cabin Exactly as described, everything was very nice, decorated nicely, bed was comfortable, kitchen had everything you would need. Very quiet property but close to town. Super clean as well. Stayed 4 nights in August.

  • Great location for enjoying the town, but plenty of privacy. The cabin was perfectly comfortable for our family of 5. It was cute, very clean, and had everything we needed. We would gladly stay here again.

Our Newly remodeled ground floor 1 bedroom apartment has an industrial farmhouse look with a steampunk vibe, and a touch of local character. Unique Barn doors open wide to reveal the bedroom and comfortable queen-sized bed. The neighborhood is a quiet residential area but just a short walk from downtown restaurants, galleries and coffee shops. Just a tad over a stone's throw from the Fall River and the Freedom Trail that connects to the famous Kidney Springs.
The in-apartment coffee bar and full kitchen are stocked with breakfast items so you are all set for mornings. Make your meals at home or go out to enjoy the local restaurants. There's a new bright and shiny shower, a fun and functional pull-down rustic workspace, basic TV cable, and an electric fireplace for cozy nights.
Nestled at the south end of the Black Hills of South Dakota, the town of Hot Springs can boast not only of its scenic beauty and natural healing springs but also it's unique sandstone architecture. With close proximity to all Black Hills attractions, Wind Cave National Park, Angostura State Park and Lake, Custer State Park, The Wild Horse Sanctuary, Hot Springs had lots to boast about! There's also a world-class golf course and of course the world famous mammoth dig site that's about a mile from our doors. Additionally, We are an easy day trip away from other national monuments and the well known Sturgis Bike Rally held every August. You can visit all of the beautiful Black Hills from our hidden gem of an apartment.
  • This place was just as shown in the pictures and very comfortable! We loved the added touches at the coffee / tea bar as well as the pancake / waffle mix and the eggs in the fridge. We turned up the electric fireplace each night to watch some television to relax. It would have been nice to have a few more channels to watch (we don’t have cable at home!) but it wasn’t a big issue. Also, we had to learn a little trick when we locked the door to the apartment, be sure to pull the door towards you to make sure it locks in the deadbolt, otherwise the door won’t lock. ;) Overall, a very great stay!

    Kate2019-12-31T00:00:00Z
  • Kaloa's place is adorable and so comfortable. Every touch was just perfect. We could tell that a great deal of careful thought and planning went in to make this a wonderful experience for guests. We will definitely be back to this little gem in the town of Hot Springs!

    Denise2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • HIGHLY RECOMMEND!! The space is so adorable, so functional, just the best little hideaway in the Black Hills! Everything was so clean, full kitchen, the most comfortable couches to relax on. Also we had some car trouble and Kaloa was most wonderful in offering help which is way outside of what a host needs to do but she is just the nicest.

    Dana2019-11-27T00:00:00Z
  • Sparkling clean with thoughtful amenities.

    Laura2019-11-17T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommended! Kaloa’s place was absolutely beautiful. It was sparkling clean, wonderfully decorated, and there were lovely extra details throughout. It’s evident that lots of thoughtfulness went into making this place special. It has such a cozy/homey feel to it. The coffee bar and breakfast items provided were awesome! I will for sure be back in the future:)

    Jennifer2019-10-26T00:00:00Z
  • Kaloa’s place is very comfortable with lots of special touches. It’s close enough to walk to the center of downtown Hot Springs and there are lots of things to explore in the area. A great place to stay!

Cannot recommend it highly enough!

    Kaley2019-12-22T00:00:00Z
  • The space is beautifully appointed with everything one would need in an antique setting. It is conveniently located downtown and is walking distance from Evan’s Plunge which is where I spent the evening. Restaurants are limited as expected (for the winter off-season) so the kitchen was handy.

  • This Burdette House is like walking back into a 1920's or 1930's Victorian Mansion. But with all the modern updates a person could wish for, Wye-FI, TV, Micro-wave, stove, refrig, all dish's provided, tea/coffee, and even pop-corn and a pop-corn popper, and toys for the kids. The courtyard is awesome, BBQ grills to grill on, and even has a Sauna, a must do to put on your Bucket-list for Hot Springs, SD. Shopping and restaurants galore, sight-seeing and museum's also. Vickie and William are Great host, they left nothing to the imagination, except having a great time, and a very relaxing home to stay in. Randy & Rosemarie

  • Amazing space! Very clean. Every little touch you could ever want. Outside space is beautiful. Walking distance to shops/restaurant. Would have never even known there was people on the floor above us... very quiet and private. Quick responses. Excellent hosts!

    Lyndsey2019-10-16T00:00:00Z
  • Vickie went above and beyond in making us feel welcome and comfortable. The space was perfect for hanging out in when we weren’t exploring the area. We spent a lot of time at the spa next door and loved being able to easily walk to downtown as well. The beds were comfy too. My only regret was not spending more time outside on the beautiful grounds. It was too chilly for that this time. The Burdette House is an excellent place for a get-away!

    Lisa2019-10-13T00:00:00Z
  • Very clean rooms and very friendly & wonderful host. There are small touches by the host everywhere for people who stays. Beautiful building and wonderful outdoor garden. Very convenient location to walk around the town. Thank you very much.

    Takahiro2019-10-01T00:00:00Z
  • We loved the Burdette House. The property is just wonderful with lovely spaces to relax. The suite was perfect for us-- it was comfortable, roomy, and had everything we needed (just like home). The hosts were as helpful and hospitable as we needed them to be, but with such incredible consideration of our need for quiet and privacy. It is a short block to a beautiful riverside walk and to the tiny town. Depending on the time of year, the town is very sleepy (restaurants etc. are somewhat seasonal, so plan to eat in if it is not summer season). Beds are comfy. Kitchen and living room are spacious. Bathroom is tiny. Stairs to access the second floor suite were no problem for us. We hope to come back to Hot Springs and will definitely seek to book the Burdette House.

    Autumn2019-09-24T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely as advertised: a bit funky, but with all the necessities, and more. The sauna and barbeque areas are great! The town is also a bit funky, but charming. Overall, a 5* experience.

    William2019-09-20T00:00:00Z
  • We had such an amazing time staying here. The hosts Bill and Vickie were so great about communicating with us from the start. Their place is amazingly set up and the 2 bedroom layout was its own apartment. There was lots of space inside and the place is very well kept up! Visitors also have access to the yard, grills and sauna. After long days of site seeing, nothing is better than relaxing in a sauna. While at the Burdette House, we also visited the farmers market down the street (only on Fridays). We got food and grilled out, which really made the place feel like home. Vickie and Bill were very good about local recommendations and communicating while we were in town. Hot Springs is a sleepy little place but we had a great time visiting all of the parks and monuments in the surrounding areas. If you’re thinking about booking this place, stop right now and do it!! We will definitely be back!

  • Great space

    Molly2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • The room was clean and inviting. The location was excellent, directly across from a park and in the heart of the town. We were also able to bring our dog, which was great because we had a pet friendly place booked beforehand that had to cancel on us, and we didn't have a pet sitter for her. Overall, a great place to stay!

    Dallis2019-07-31T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay in the miners suite located in Hot Springs South Dakota. The room was comfortable and clean. Just be aware as stated in the description that there is a large flight of steep stairs to get up to the level where the suites are located. There is a kitchen that is open to anyone that stays there. The suite Has a sitting room with a table and chairs, couch and television. The bathroom has a shower and a large soaking tub (plenty of hot water). The bedroom has a king size bed and lots of room. this is a older building And the decor is set up for that time period. The owner was very nice and quickly responded to any questions that I had. A couple doors down is a restaurant/bar called “the vault” We had breakfast there which was quite tasty. Thank you for everything

    Anne2019-07-29T00:00:00Z
  • Tavi's place was wonderful. The location was awesome. It was next to a great restaurant call the Vault, were we ate breakfast every morning and dinner. It was very clean, nicely decorated and in a safe location.

  • An inconspicuous gem of a Airbnb. Hidden inside pioneer era stones is this modern 3 room suite with just the right amount of history mixed in. We loved it.

This property is across from Moccasin Springs (www.moccasinsprings.com). Due to it being new on the market, we don't yet have many reviews, but don't let that stop you from booking with us! The Rosita's namesake is taken from one of the floor plans of a Sears Catalog Home and was completely remodeled in 2008, the layout vastly improved for the ideal vacation stay! The Rosita is cozy and truly a unique and comfy stay! Thank you for choosing to stay with us.
Our front door leads into the living room which features original exposed studs, furniture, television and a gorgeous kiva fireplace. There is a bedroom with a queen bed, ceiling fan and clothes storage right off of the living room. The eat-in kitchen has a full set of appliances, dishes, cooking gear and all you could need for a meal in. The bathroom is off the kitchen and features a jetted tub, a washer/dryer combo as well a separate shower. The second bedroom in the back of the home is spacious and features a king bed, television, vaulted ceiling, closet, ceiling fan, extra clothes storage and the door leading to the patio and backyard. The backyard has a small grassy area to dig your toes right into, seating on the patio as well as a small gas grill. There is tile throughout the home with throw rugs. There is no carpet. We use cleaners and laundry products that are from Melaleuca so there are no heavy scents, dyes or ingredients that would typically irritate sensitive skin.
The Rosita is just up Minnekahta Avenue, from North River Street, and is located on the north side. There is on and off street parking and the home is within walking distance to a coffee shop, a fantastic pizza trailer, a cafe, the visitor's center, a couple of bars and restaurants, an outfitter and more. Moccasin Springs Natural Mineral Spa and the Buffalo Dreamer fine dining restaurant are literally a hop, skip and jump away. No, really. About a half block from the Rosita.
  • This was a great place. It was clean and spacious, and very peaceful. Michael was terrific with communication and flexibility, he did everything he could to make my stay as easy and comfortable as he could. I would highly recommend it.

  • Michael is a great host! He provided tips where to get cheaper firewood since it was a longer stay and the big snow storm coming in wanted to have extra wood! He was very prompt multiple times to shovel as the snow was falling very fast. Very great at responding to any questions and assisted with an additional night due to bad roads. This house is so perfect and cozy! Great amount of items in the kitchen to feel right at home!

  • The Victorian room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. We enjoyed our stay and had a great nights sleep!

    Thomas2019-07-21T00:00:00Z
  • We had a great stay here! The place was beautiful. We loved all the antique pieces and the overall atmosphere. We were a little unsure of how the shared common areas would work going into it but it was really a neat set up and worked out great! It felt very private. The location was great—lots of food and activities near by. The host communicated quickly as well. We would love to come back one day!

    Emily2019-07-15T00:00:00Z
  • Place was very clean, quiet and well maintained. Looks like some parts of the suite I stayed in have been renovated recently and it had a well stocked community kitchen you can use though I never had the chance. Reasonably close to attractions in the area and a good alternative to staying in Rapid City; I got a huge beautiful suite for less than I would have paid for a crappy hotel room in the bigger city. Would certainly stay here again.

  • Had a great stay at this adorable little studio. Cute location above a few shops (but the stairs are a little steep). Good food within walking distance and a waterfall the second you step out the door! Make sure you like the person you are staying with though, there isn't much privacy. Hot Springs was less tourist-filled than I expected which made it a breeze to get around town. Driving north through Wind Cave National Park was beautiful as well!

  • Wonderful service and great views. One of the coolest places I’ve stayed. Will definitely return!

    Maryssa2018-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • Tavi's place is a relaxing and clean place to stay, right in the heart of downtown Hot Springs, within a short walk to almost everything we planned to do! Be sure to take the river walk, especially when you need a cool place to be refreshed on a hot day. It's right across the street, and a fun walk where you can put your feet in the spring-fed river, walk up close to a 50 ft tall waterfall, and even fill your water jugs with fresh drinkable mineral water straight from a spring! And what a great place to stay above as well! A coffeehouse with soups and sandwiches? Awesome! Tavi and the staff were so friendly and accommodating, even going out of their way to make the types of food that worked with our restricted gluten-free diet! We feel like we not only found a comfortable, safe and friendly place to stay, but also a group of new friends! We highly recommend Tavi's place.

  • We had a great stay at Elsa and Marty's place. I was looking for a little peace and quiet and their house offered it in a lovely setting. I didn't get the chance to meet Marty, but had the pleasure of speaking with Elsa. She was very friendly and welcoming. The check-in/out process was very easy, and the house had everything we needed for our stay. There were three adults in our party and we had plenty of room. I would definitely recommend staying in the carriage house to anyone looking to explore Hot Springs and the Black Hills area.

    Monica2019-08-26T00:00:00Z

    Lauren2019-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • This quaint cottage is the perfect launching point to explore the Black Hills. Tucked away in a quiet neighborhood, you can come home and rest and get away from the tourists. The house is immaculate and the hosts are so helpful and friendly. We hope to come back again!

    Sarah2019-06-01T00:00:00Z
  • The Carriage House was a really nice place to stay while we toured the southern portion of the Black Hills. Hot Springs is a neat little town to visit with the Mammoth Site right up the street and convenient to Wind Cave National Park and Custer is not that far off either. The Black Hills Wild Horse Sanctuary is nearby as well. It was just the two of us in the house but plenty of room for a family with the upstairs bedrooms. Marty and Elsa have plenty of information on the surrounding area provided along with some books on the Black Hills if you haven't had a chance to orient yourself. Our days were spent hiking and exploring the Hills so being able to come back and relax a bit was really great either in the family room or out on the deck. Thanks for a great stay.

Great location, lots of kitchen amenities—good sized kitchen, bathroom with new washer/dryer. A few cool attractions around town such as the Mammoth Site and Evans Plunge. Not too terribly far from all the other SD attractions, as well. Stay here!

The Mission suite is a spacious queen suite that does allow pets.
  • Tavi’s place is lovely, spacious, and comfortable. Tavi could not have been more welcoming and accommodating. I loved staying in this space.

    Jonathan2019-08-31T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed in the Mission Suite the weekend after July 4th. It is one of multiple units in an older building in downtown Hot Springs above an antique store. There really are “26 stairs” to access the units, but a chair lift is available for those who might need it. At the top of the stairs, there’s a full kitchen for guests to use to make meals plus a large community table and then short hallways to each unit on either side. Our Mission Suite was beautiful - very clean and updated, yet they retained and refurbished the original woodwork, wood floors and mantle. We loved having such a nice living room that we could enjoy. The sleeping area was spacious - the bed was comfortable and we also utilized the small microwave and refrigerator. Off the sleeping area was a another great area for our suitcases plus a nice-sized closet before getting to a wash stand outside the full bathroom (sink, shower, toilet). Again, all of this was clean, definitely updated and nicely remodeled. Tavi is a great hostess and we really enjoyed our experiences with the local business owners we talked to. Definitely take a walk (or run) on the path across the street that follows the river through the park and past a small waterfall visible from almost anywhere on the street. Hot Springs is south of Wind Cave National Park and Custer State Park, but we will probably stay there on our next trip. We loved the shops within walking distance to the Air BnB and the beautiful historic buildings that housed these small businesses. We loved that we COULD go for a walk in the morning or at night and relax. We also discovered that our drive back to Hot Springs through Wind Cave NP at the end of a day were usually the spots where you would find the buffalo herds grazing along the road, which was amazing. We would definitely recommend this spot to others.

    Dana2019-07-08T00:00:00Z
  • Great, love the location! Check in was a breeze - would stay again.

    Michael2019-05-26T00:00:00Z
  • Beautiful stay!! The host has the room decorated great and was very helpful checking in. The location is great and would love to stay again!

    Jordan2019-05-09T00:00:00Z
  • Two recommendations: visit the Buffalo Gap National Grassland because it’s beautiful, and stay at Tavi’s place when you do. The Mission Room was a lovely place to stay: bed and shower are luxurious, and the shared kitchen is really well equipped. I would definitely stay again.

  • The location was unparalleled. The scenery was breathtaking, the beds and furniture were comfortable. Loved the deck, stargazing and seeing the wildlife. We wished we would have known ahead of time that the water usage would be limited. Overall we were very happy with our stay. It was a comfortable place to return to after long days of sightseeing.

    Denise2019-08-02T00:00:00Z
  • My family and I had a wonderful time here. The view of the Black Hills is priceless and the proximity to all the nearby parks made our stay even better. We’d spend our mornings/afternoons at Custer or Badlands, and then come back, grill out, and chill on the porch. The owner, Peter, who stays in an adjacent building on the property, is super nice and hospitable. Can’t recommend this place enough. Charmed!

  • We spent 5 nights at Ena's place and had a great time, It was super clean, had all the amenities and then some to make our trip enjoyable. Everything was organized with easy to follow instructions, the kitchen was fully equipped so cooking was a breeze! The bed was very comfortable, the bathroom had double sinks and a nice shower with seating, the included washer and dryer are a great help! Ena also provided details about the area that were very helpful for our trip to explore the Black Hills. We will plan another trip to Ena's place to spend more time in the Black Hills of SD.

  • Ena and Verlyn are very special and their little heaven away from home is spectacular. We were lucky to spend some time with them and getting to know them was a highlight of our trip. They keep the place immaculate and well stocked. It’s a treat for someone who loves to cook. If you are an animal lover, you are up for a treat - to meet their pets and see animals in their natural habitat is a wonderful experience. Take Ena’s recommendations for local cuisines and to explore South Dakota.. you’ll be glad that you did.

  • If you are looking for a quiet place that is sparkling clean with all the amenities just minutes from Hot Springs, SD look no further than this great place. Ena and Verlyn are great hosts! They know the area very well. You will be immersed in nature here as well. While having my morning coffee on the deck I spotted: deer, wild turkeys, blue jays, woodpeckers, and gold finches. Another bonus is they own 2 beautiful horses. They invited us to meet them and let my 2 boys give them treats. I wish we stayed longer!

    Christopher 2019-08-19T00:00:00Z

  • My husband and I were looking for a getaway in the hills Christmas weekend. We booked the Fire Tower last minute and it was perfect. We loved the views and how secluded it was. Getting up early with a cup of coffee and watching the sunrise on the third floor was beautiful! We couldn't have asked for a better stay.

  • The Fire Tower does not disappoint! From the king size bed on the second floor to the thoughtful touches (handwritten notes, tea and coffee provided, and a kettle on the stove) it was a delight to stay here. The views of the surrounding hills are gorgeous and you can hear many different types of birds calling and cows softly lowing if you step out onto the wraparound, third floor deck. I had a question about check-in and Gary responded within ten minutes.

  • This unique cabin style home was one of the highlights of our family vacation to the black hills. The views from the property and the cozy surroundings made for a wonderful place to relax after our busy days of sight seeing and adventure in the black hills area. We really loved Hot Springs, it was a lovely town with lots amenities and some great things to do there. I'm glad we choose the Fire Tower house in Hot Springs for our home destination during our stay in the black hills.
