Enjoy a peaceful country view while relaxing on the front porch. This home sits on 14 acres, just off US Highway 61. Guests will see deer roaming in the yard every morning and night. This rental accommodates families traveling with children or the couple seeking a quiet retreat. Stay here while you visit family and friends in the area. It is a short drive to Louisiana, Clarksville or Hannibal. We are about one hour from St. Louis. Excellent TV coverage and high speed internet.
******** Coronavirus 19 Update - There is a case in our area plus surrounding counties. As you know, the news changes minute by minute. We are currently under a stay-at-home directive. Please message me before instant booking. Be safe. We may be in crisis mode for a long time. The calendar is blocked up through early June for public safety. Several guests have decided to postpone their stays until a later date. ******** Spring-like temperatures are here! The grass is green and spring flowers are in bloom. Gather your friends and come spend some peaceful time in the country. You can keep up with social media and world news via your favorite device, be it a tablet or laptop. The cottage has high speed internet. Consider this location if you have a 2020 wedding or family reunion in the area. We hosted two wedding groups in 2019. Guests find it nice to connect with relatives and friends during the festivities. Ask me about arranging for a professional massage therapist to come to the cottage. There are several in the area. This was a special treat for two groups of girls on a "ladies only" trip. Both groups said it was soooo relaxing! The cottage has 3 bedrooms available; one king and two queens. Someone can sleep on the couch if they wish. The kitchen is fully stocked for your use. There is a griddle, toaster, microwave and a crock pot. Also cookware and baking sheets. Ask about use of the gas BBQ grill. Coffee and tea are provided. We are easily accessible from major highways in the area. ***If you book the cottage, check your confirmation for the exact address. This will be under DIRECTIONS. There will be specific DIRECTIONS for the address. *** Business travelers will find our high speed internet (fiber optic) invaluable. Each sleeping room has bedside USB charging available. Airbnb is now collecting Missouri state sales tax. This averages $6-8 per night and is only on the lodging. There is no hotel/motel tax in our area as in some cities.
I have restaurant recommendations available with addresses and contact information. Visitors may be interested in walking through the 350 acre Henry Lay Center owned by St. Louis University . It has a sculpture park and beautiful trails. Most of the trails are shaded and very clearly marked. There are several lakes. The center is about 10-15 minutes from the house. More information about the center is available on line - check Pike County Missouri Tourism. There is also a good map noting locations of area towns. The Amish Community in Pike County is located west and south of Bowling Green. The Amish families who first settled in this area in 1948 are one of the stricter sects. For the Amish, farming is the main source of livelihood. All farming equipment is horse drawn. Amish men are excellent farmers and craftsmen featuring handcrafted woodworking cabinets and furniture. Amish women make quilts, rugs, baked goods, jams, jellies and candies. There are several Amish stores in the area. There is a detailed map at the cottage.
  • Great little get-away for some peace and quiet. Grounds are lovely. Easy to get to. About 30 min from Hannibal and several other surrounding quaint towns. Host was fantastic. Quick replies and easy check in. The place was immaculate. The beds were so comfortable!!!! Would stay here again.

  • Wonderful, relaxing retreat! Highly recommend! Thanks for a great stay, Paulette!

    Ziva2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Paulette's place exceeded all 5 of our expectations for a much needed girls getaway! She was the best hostess , checking us in personally and ensuring we had everything we needed. Her in town recommendations were impeccable and the land surrounding the property was absolutely stunning. We will definitely recommend this property to all of our friends and family! The specific directions for switches and remotes were such a thoughtful touch. She really did think of EVERYTHING!

    Jessica2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Very cozy, peaceful, and beyond relaxing. So beautiful in the snow with all of the trees. Took a creek walk around the woods in the back, which was our favorite. Paulette made sure this place was ready for us and everything was so clean. Can’t wait to come back in the future!

  • 10/10 recommend. Lovey host, and a lovely place to stay

    Ella2020-01-01T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. We were visiting family in Louisianna and this was not just the closest place (which it was) it was also one of the best airbnb's we have ever stayed in. Quaintly furnished, plenty of extra blankets and pillows, helpful directions and tips posted and finding the place was a breeze with Paulette's directions. We will definitely stay again when visiting family in the area. :)

  • What can I say...great hostess. Very accommodating and wonderful house kept up very well. Not far off major highway yet very serene. Six of our family stayed for a weekend and loved it! The whole house to ourselves.

  • Paulette's" Peaceful Cottage" is exactly that. We have done a girls trip 3 years in a row now and Paulette is always there to make sure our stay is everything it can be. Beautiful Cottage and surroundings.

Our quaint little cottage was started in 2013 which we built ourselves. We are a small working goat dairy farm, with a few other critters on the side. We have three outside dogs, two outside cats, a miniature donkey, goats, ducks and chickens. We are on a gravel road just 1/2 mile off of a highway 61. We are about 30 minutes from Mark Twain Lake, and 15 minutes from Hannibal city limits. We are 2 miles from gas stations, a discount store, subway, and a post office.
We do have a tub/shower downstairs for you to use in addition to your private half bath upstairs. You are welcome to use the coffee pot and share some refrigerator space. Nighttime can be a musical experience with tree frogs and hoot owls. Our dogs may bark at an intruder coming up from the woods. We are sitting on 60 acres with a pond and creek. You are welcome to enjoy some quiet time back to nature by taking a walk.
We are located 1/2 mile from highway 61 so it is not off the beaten path of the highway very far. We do have some neighbors in the distant and a family member with a house on the property also.
  • Lisa and Dave are fabulous people. They provided food and beverages for us, gave us a tour of their animals, and made us feel very comfortable and at home. What a great rural retreat! I would highly recommend them!

My dogs loved having access to the river from the house, lots of open space for them in the yard too! Nancy was a great host and was very kind and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!

    Gabby2020-02-29T00:00:00Z
  • I loved my stay! Nancy's loft space was extremely comfortable and exactly what I needed after a day's long drive. She was even kind enough to have 2 dog treats waiting for my pups. Enjoyed the small village vibe. Great, thorough communication!

    Abby2020-01-02T00:00:00Z
  • Great location with access right to the river for fishing or sight seeing. Host is very nice and helpful. Very very quiet. Great space and will stay again.

    Michael2019-11-29T00:00:00Z
  • Cozy loft efficiency in historic building on scenic Illinois River. Reminded us of staying in our beloved Grandma's attic with homey touches. Tidy space with thoughtful amenities. Nancy is a caring host providing detailed information including local sites, events, and concerned cautions about watching for deer while traveling. We appreciated the private entrance and the lighted stairway. We didn't get to use the fire pit - maybe next time!

    Mary And Blair2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I had such a great night at Nancy's loft! It was a beautiful October evening and she already had wood in the fire pit and extra available so we could spend a lovely evening outdoors. The loft itself embraces the historic era of the building and is cozy and comfortable. If we hadn't been on a road trip with other places to be we would have been begging to stay another night (or week)! We are already planning on how we can arrange our vacation next year to include another stay. Thank you Nancy! It was a pleasure to get to meet you and we appreciate what you have done to restore a beautiful piece of history!

    Deb2019-10-18T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy’s space was super cozy and comfortable. The kitchen amenities were very useful if you plan on cooking a meal. I enjoyed being in a small town with history. The cable and WiFi were very appreciated! Nancy was very responsive and welcoming! I couldn’t have asked for a better host. I will definitely be back to visit to enjoy an extremely peaceful get away. And next time I hope to use the fire pit!

    Kendra2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful place, nobody disturb, hebian scenery is very beautiful. The room is clean, comfortable and warm, and the host is very considerate.

    Hui2019-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Nancy’s place worked well for us. Check in was really easy and the place is full of history and character. It wasn’t far off the highway and had everything we needed. Nancy was really kind and welcoming and made sure we were well taken care of. Thank you Nancy!

Our charming B&B offers our guests a restful night of sleep and a delicious breakfast in the morning. Built in 1857 our facility is completely restored and inspected, yet keeping with the era of the buildings in furnishings and accessories. Perfect for corporate travelers, travelers, and visitors to the area. Lots of privacy for each guest is provided. Please note that we are an Inn with 10 total rooms. Each room is furnished differently but all of equal quality and appointments.
Some rooms have a king bed and all others have queen beds. Each room has unique linens and furnishings as some furnishings are antique. When you make a reservation we will assign you a lovely room, but it may not look like the exact picture shown. You are assured of a gracious room; neat and very clean indeed.
  • this room was five-star quality in every aspect. communication was clear and efficient. the location was beautiful: right in downtown louisiana just a few steps from the mississippi river and highly-rated restaurants. our room was clean, historic (exposed brick set a gorgeous backdrop), and had excellent views of the downtown area. a unique note: our breakfast was superb. apparently the owner is a world-renowned chef who teaches cooking classes in the south of france (no joke). everything about our visit was above and beyond what we'd expected. so glad we chose to stay here.

    Stacey2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • This place is clean, welcoming, and charming.

    Blake2020-02-18T00:00:00Z
  • Karen is a great host, she went above and beyond to accommodate us. The room was very clean and decorated beautifully. The historic building was my biggest draw, I spent the night researching the history of the place. The wifi was reliable, which is great if you have to do any business while there. The shop has a great wine selection, even their own brand! The scones were delicious! We will definitely be back.

    Carrie2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • This was a great place! Love the historic old bldg. Breakfast was wonderful. All in all, a great stay. Will be back.

    Dawn2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • My girlfriend and I stay at Eagles Nest whenever we travel back to Louisiana. Karen not only provides fantastic living amenities, but also the best breakfast in the state. Her cinnamon rolls alone are worth the trip! No better place to stay if you're visiting Louisiana.

    Chris2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I enjoyed our stay. Authentic BnB in small town, right on the river. We found everything easy and charming. My biggest concern was mattress age/support and the mattress was great!

    Ted2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • Such a delightful place. The personal touch of a B&B with the privacy of an inn. The breakfast was delicious and you have to try the bakery. Karen is a wonderful hostess!

Complete your stay with a magnificent view of the Mississippi River from this private guesthouse sitting high on the bluff. It is located only 1.2 miles from downtown historic Hannibal where there are restaurants and shops, visitor attractions and parks.
2020 RENOVATIONS include removal of old wallpaper and popcorn ceilings and new paint in living room, kitchen and bathroom which gives the house a much fresher look. The guesthouse has been newly decorated. 870 square feet all to yourself! The bedroom has a NEW king bed and an oscillating fan on the dresser. There is also a queen bed in the living area. A privacy curtain is in place which can provide some separation from the living room. There are stairs leading to the entrance of this house from the parking area. There is a sizable deck with patio table and chairs. There is also a bench for sitting on to watch the barges and river boats go by. A propane gas grill is now available for outdoor grilling.
This is a secluded area off a state highway. There is only 1 neighbor on our road. We are, however, just over a mile from downtown Hannibal.
  • This is a fantastic place and the hosts are responsive and kind. Highly recommended!

    Dale2020-03-15T00:00:00Z
  • The view is way beyond what you are ready for. We saw a bald eagle almost immediately, ultra private, plus very comfortable and cozy, really nice extra touches, you can tell Ted and Carol really care about making their guests comfortable.

    Ben2020-02-22T00:00:00Z
  • Ted's place was simply more than we thought it would be. VERY clean and unlike so many I have stayed in, they had special touches and all the things they thought would compliment our stay. The king bed was VERY comfortable. The view overlooking the river was simply amazing. The privacy was great. We took food with us and cooked while we were there...everything we needed was there! Pretty sure this rates as one of the THE best air bnb's I have stayed in!

    Alyssa2020-02-19T00:00:00Z
  • Great view. Host was always friendly and available.

    Willard2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • This is a great place to stay. Ted went above and beyond to make us feel welcome in his home.

    Joseph2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • I would highly recommend this location if you are traveling to Hannibal or the surrounding area. The location is close to surrounding attractions and the down town area. The house as a spectacular view of the river with a large seating area if you are just looking to relax.

    Mike2019-12-28T00:00:00Z
  • Amazing stay!! SUPER clean!! Privacy, wonderful views, awesome bed, thoughtful touches. The only negative is that we could not stay longer😉

    Denise2019-11-24T00:00:00Z
  • This place is just simply GREAT. Photos don’t really do it justice. Everything was immaculately clean, prepped, and ready for our stay. The view was just gorgeous! The best first stay we could ever ask for!

  • Beautifully decorated home with updated kitchen and bathroom. Very comfortable furnishings and a lot of room to relax. The hot tub was amazing. Everything was spotlessly clean.

    Melody2020-03-17T00:00:00Z
  • This place was absolutely beautiful! I couldn’t have asked for a better space! The hot tub was already warmed up when we got there and it felt so cozy! Everything was very clean! 10/10!

  • Holly’s was exceptionally clean, communication was great and check in/out was painless!

    Aaron2020-03-06T00:00:00Z
  • Holly's place was one of the best AirBnBs I've stayed at. Incredible clean and with everything you need for an escape to the country. My girlfriend and I were there for the weekend to celebrate Valentine's day and she even got us a rose. The jacuzzi overlooking the farmlands had to be one of the most romantic settings. She is a great host and will help you right away!

    Aaron2020-02-23T00:00:00Z
  • A very comfortable home. It's nice and cozy especially in the cold weather that we were having. Out of the way from people, but still close enough to town to drive in if you need to. Overall an A+ experience.

    John2020-02-17T00:00:00Z
  • The house was very warm and welcoming and extra cozy! The covered hottub was very relaxing in the pouring rain.... the set up in the back was very neat. The dock and lake looked awesome, can't wait to come back to enjoy it as it was raining during our stay. The house was stocked with lots of of spices, dishes, covers, pillows and towels. Holly really has thought of Everything! Can't wait to come back in the summer. Thanks Holly!

  • This is a great little place to stay in Hannibal! Quiet location in the downtown area right next to a fantastic restaurant. Jim's place was very clean and had all the amenities I needed for a comfortable stay. Would highly recommend to traveling professionals.

  • Booked a weekend getaway in Hannibal and found this place listed as close to everything, and it was absolutely correct. Super convenient location within walking distance of all the fun things to do in Hannibal, and right next door to the #1 rated restaurant. Jim was a great host, the apartment was clean and cozy and perfect--also the shower was REALLY nice! Very quiet and safe and just what we needed. We want to come back to Hannibal in warmer weather and will definitely book this place again if available. My first Air BnB stay and it could not have been better. Thanks again, Jim!

    Beth2019-11-17T00:00:00Z

  • Truly wonderful space! Super clean! Spotless! Will definitely be back! Owner made us feel welcome and just made it an all around wonderful experience! Thank you!

    Christopher2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • Had a lovely stay here on a beautiful fall weekend. I loved being able to step out to the street and look right down to the Mississippi River flowing by the historic landing. This unit is underneath Jim’s other apartment, both remodeled from an older building on the alley. A larger group could book both places and have the whole building to themselves (or, say, two couples who want to be near each other but not share the same unit). This unit is exactly as advertised and is clean, comfortable, and functional. Finish work on the apartment has a DIY feel but gets the job done. The beautiful ceramic shower is raised off the slab for drainage and there are a couple steps leading up to it — not a problem for me but perhaps a challenge for someone with mobility or balance issues. A detail I appreciated was the comfy office chair that made working at the table so much more comfortable. Good restaurants within a couple blocks — LaBinnah Bistro for fine dining, Palermo’s for takeout pizza, etc. Many more closer to Main Street and the river, all easily walkable (downhill from the apartment, uphill coming back).

    Fred2019-10-20T00:00:00Z
  • Location is perfect to the downtown area. Most tourist attractions are within 10 min from location. The place was very clean and we could not have asked for a better place to stay on our weekend getaway.

  • Nancy was the most amazing host! I stayed at her place for a month. She was so kind and kept the place super clean! I brought along my fur baby, and Nancy would sometimes come over and walk her during the day. A couple of times when the weather got bad and I had to stay at the hospital Nancy made sure Sadie was taken care of for me while I was away! She went above and beyond to make my stay as comfortable as possible! I will definitely stay again if I’m ever back in the area!! Thanks again Nancy!! Sadie and I will miss you!

  • Beautiful place with a lot of history. Great value for what's offered. Nicer than most hotels in the area, even, at half the price! Would definitely stay again!

  • Had another great stay at FGH. Nancy goes above and beyond to make guests feel comfortable and is very responsive. WiFi was added since my last visit from satellite Internet access - a nice upgrade. It is nice to have a clean, dog-friendly space. I also tried the tavern in the village - the River Bank. Good food, a nice place to grab a bite if you don’t feel like cooking in unit’s well-equipped kitchen.

We would certainly return and definitely recommend to a friend.

My place is close to St.Louis. You’ll love my place because of the location, the outdoors space, the ambiance, and the tranquility . My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travelers, families (with kids), and big groups. We are located on farm with 96 acres. The cabin is secluded and very private and you won’t be able to see other homes. This is not a subdivision or a neighbor hood dwelling. You are in the boonies. Our guests love it, especially the solitude and star gazing.
Our cabin has a queen bed upstairs that overlooks the wood stove. Downstairs there is a comfortable sofa bed in queen size. In addition, we have 4 rollaway beds. 8 people can sleep comfortably in our cabin. There is also a fully equipped washer and dryer room and a kitchen complete with just about everything you could possibly need.
Our cabin is very rural and quiet. At night you can go outside and see the stars on the back deck. This is something you don't get to enjoy in the city much. We also have world class trophy deer, and they cross back and forth by the cabin. We are in a sparely populated area, so you will have a lot of privacy. However, if you want to go into town to shop or get a bite to eat, you are only about 5 miles away. We also have a couple of very nice parks to hike or have picnics about 5-30 minutes away.
  • A wonderful place to get away. Highly recommended!

    Mark2020-02-14T00:00:00Z
  • Great clean, cozy cabin. In a perfect location. With everything you could possibly need

    Reid2020-01-18T00:00:00Z
  • Girlfriend and I spent the weekend here and it was very relaxing, especially with the wood burning fireplace and all the fall foliage. We enjoyed watching the chickens out the window while drinking our morning coffee. Would definitely return

    Jacob2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • We had an exceptional stay here! The cabin is more beautiful than the pictures show. Lots of space to make this our ‘home’ for 3 days — very clean, spacious and has extras. Would have loved to use the fire pit which was stocked with plenty of wood. If you stay here, ask Tammy about the waterfalls. We hiked and had a picnic there.

    Jim And Pam2019-09-01T00:00:00Z
  • Tammy’s place is great! It was cozy, clean, and a great place to unplug. We enjoyed the small town feel, and local flavor!

    Nina2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • Tammy’s Place is wonderful. You will have a retreat-like stay in the wilderness with the ability to make your stay what you want it to be. I was able to catch up on my reading and create new family memories !

    Inez2019-07-16T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely amazing time. This place is awesome. A tangible impact on our relationship. Perfect for a couples retreat. True beauty at it's finest. Will come back every year. Tammy is a wonderful host who is sweet and very accommodating. Highly recommend this getaway to anyone looking for time to heal and grow. Beautiful scenery and all amenities

    Rachael2019-07-07T00:00:00Z
  • This cabin was wonderful! Very clean & Tammy was a great host. It was very nice to get away from everything & come home refreshed. The cabin had everything we needed for a great relaxing Memorial Day Weekend. From cooking supplies & utensils, bathroom, laundry, grilling & even wood for an outside fire! We loved it & definitely plan on going back again.

New, modern, cozy home placed in a country setting with the beautiful city lake in the backyard. Come to relax and enjoy nature at its best--as well as being just a few minutes from town.
Be sure to enjoy some evenings around the campfire with our outdoor fire pit. Plenty of space for the kids to run around carefree! Also make sure to check out the fishing license requirements as a visitor to the area if you want to fish at the back of the property, or anywhere around the rest of the 220 acre lake.
Privacy is one of the best parts about this home's location. There are neighbors nearby, but not too close! The property to the south has a small park with playground equipment for kids to enjoy. You will love this setting for sunsets, and the sunrises are spectacular too!

  • We stayed for a month and had no regrets. Our cabin had everything we needed including a separate bedroom, full kitchen (including microwave and fullsize range), cable TV, and wireless Internet. The staff is super friendly and the cabins are located very close to Mark Twain Lake. We found the location to be a perfect base camp for exploring the area. And the area is very cool with a wide range of things to do. Also worth noting is that there's a really good restaurant within easy walking distance from the property. Cell service at the cabin was excellent on VZW and good on AT&T. The cabins are not in a town, which means its nice and quiet. We will be back.

Five minutes from Cuivre River State Park that has great hiking trails. One hour from Downtown St. Louis and 40 minutes from historic St. Charles. Or just hang out at the house for some great R&R with a nice enclosed deck over looking the valley behind the house or sit in the front yard and enjoy the sounds of nature. We are 60 minutes from Hannibal
Private bath in room. Nice enclosed deck on first floor to sit and enjoy coffee in the morning
We are 60 miles south of Hannibal and 2 miles north of Troy Missouri. Cuivre River State Park is less than 2 miles away
  • Comfortable environment, everything you need, and Karen was extremely helpful.

  • 100% recommended. It’s a lovely house, great pets, and the hosts are just amazingly helpful and kind. The room is clean, spacious. Bath is big and spacious. I didn’t really need to access the kitchen but Karen did set up the coffee machine for me, I was a bit scared of dogs, but that’s me. Their neighbours also has a pair of horses. One piece of advise, drive safe and alert, lots of deers on the interior roads. I’d love to go back someday.

  • My room was perfect with my own bathroom. The bed was comfortable and everything was spotless. Karen was so nice and communication was great.

  • Other than the fact that the air conditioner worked a little too well, the place was fantastic! It's a very private and comfortable suite. Karen is a great host and made us feel right at home.

    Tom2018-07-28T00:00:00Z
  • I had a great stay at Karen’s place. It’s a nice room that matches the description. It was clean and quiet. Karen was helpful and friendly. I only used the place for the bed and the shower - both of which were great. I was in town to visit Cuivre River State Park, but wasn’t quite up for camping. Karen’s house is maybe 5 minutes away from the north access. I did enjoy meeting the dogs. They were well behaved and very friendly. I’ll totally be back if I’m in town and it’s available.

  • I HIGHLY recommend Karen's place! The location of this place is beautiful, its out in the country so it's very peaceful and quite. She has wonderful dogs and a beautiful home!

My home is on the Street backs up to the city park. There's only one way in and one way out and within 300 feet is the city pool. It's a quiet area not much traffic and it's a beautiful old house built in 1875 with big rooms and high ceilings.
    Quiet neighborhood.

Close to I 72 in West Central Illinois. Pittsfield B&B Guesthouse is located in a residential area within walking distance to several restaurants, shopping and the beautiful Pike County Courthouse. Our Guesthouse has 3 bedrooms (with T.V. and fan in each), 2 full bathrooms with tiled shower, fully equipped kitchen and a comfortable living room with cable T.V. and WiFi, allowing plenty of room for relaxation. Washer/dryer on site.
Our Guesthouse has plenty of room, for 1 person or the whole family, to stretch out and relax in the cozy living room. Or, if you need your own space you can retire to your own comfortable room, complete with a t.v. and a fan. Because everyone sleeps with the fan on, right? We are close to several restaurants but the kitchen is well equipped if you choose to eat in. There's even a dishwasher for your convenience.

So whether you want to hike, float on the pond, or just relax on the front porch, Sweet Water Lodge is the perfect place to get away!
  • We LOVED our stay!! I can’t say enough about this place. It was awesome and perfect for our side by side riding group. There was so much room in the lodge and everything you need is available for you. I almost wish we could keep this place a secret so we can have it any time we wanted!! We will be back for sure.

  • This was the best air bnb we have stayed at. It was the perfect house for a camping style get away but was so nice and fully equipped with everything. The pictures don’t do it justice. Can’t wait to stay here again for a fun summer retreat.

  • Fantastic hosts. Super clean and modern cabin. Great place to hang out, relax, hike or go fishing. We got rained out a bit this weekend but it didn't stop us from having a fantastic time!

    Jacob2019-03-10T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed at Jennifer's for a nearby family wedding. Eight of us (with three dogs) were extremely comfortable and had plenty of room in the lodge. We had access to hike on the 100+ acres of land, and would have enjoyed starting a bonfire and grilling if the weather had been better. The lodge is cozy and has an incredible kitchen. We were able to easily prepare meals for our group with available equipment. Also, the hospitality was outstanding-- when we got lost on the rural roads near the lodge, Jennifer and get husband drove out to find us and help us navigate our way to the lodge. We will definitely be back in the future (great for family events, bachelor parties, etc)!!

    Natalie2018-10-14T00:00:00Z

  • Fantastic place to stay...great accommodations everything you need for a great weekend

    Sheila2019-08-11T00:00:00Z
  • The Watkins Place at the McCully Heritage Project is the ideal get-away. This rustic cabin in the woods is simple, but provides everything you need. The kitchen had everything I needed. There was plenty of room to hangout inside when it rained. Hot water was bountiful for post-hike showers and the solace of the quiet hollow was beyond serene. My dog had plenty of room to play outside in the meadow. I loved that hitting the hiking trails merely involved stepping outside the cabin, a trail marker guides the way just beyond the front deck. I quickly fell in love with this place and will be back time and time again. Thanks for a great experience.

    Laura2019-07-23T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I stayed at the Watkins Place with my 89 year old mother and 2 dogs. It is tucked away in a beautiful location and a perfect place to stay while traveling with dogs. It was very comfortable and plenty warm in cold weather. It is so nice to see the wild places preserved.

    Lynn2019-04-25T00:00:00Z
  • Great place to be with family without any distractions other than some shooting stars

    Chris2018-08-13T00:00:00Z
  • Our family enjoyed our stay at the Watkins House. It is very remote, but still close to Pere Marquette State Park and also not far from Grafton, IL. We enjoyed a great night sitting around the fire pit, just having family time. There is no wifi, which was wonderful! It was great to just be off grid for a while. There is a TV, but no cable or satellite, they do have a great selection of movies though. The house is very clean and comfortable beds. The owner was great to work with and easy to communicate with. Definitely a nice little spot for a great weekend getaway!

Close to the Cuivre River State Park. We are 60 miles from Hannibal and 60 miles from St. Louis. There is also a second Room available with a double bed
The kitchen and common areas are available. Those with dogs we do have a fenced in area
  • We were traveling with 3 dogs to attend local canine sports events. We stayed 3 nights and it was nearly like being at home. Definitely a dog sports household and was just what we needed at barely a fraction of what hotels would have cost. I will definitely recommend for anyone doing events at Westinn Kennels. It’s a quick scenic drive.

    Valerie2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • I had a wonderful stay! Karen was so welcoming and made sure I had everything I needed. She also allowed me to bring my pup and had a large fenced in area for him to run around in. She has dogs of her own, but they are very sweet and quiet for the most part! The room was very nice and spacious and had a mini fridge, microwave and TV with cable. I stayed for a few weeks and it was definitely a great value!

    Leah2019-12-03T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed two restful nights at Karen’s place. The accommodations were nice and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. Her dogs were well behaved and settled quickly upon our arrival. The country setting was peaceful and late night stars amazing.

    Maxime2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Karen's home is in a beautiful remote location with a small grocery store not too far. I was provided a mini fridge and a microwave and Karen even offered fresh clam chowder on a cold night. The house is very clean, very inviting and I only ever felt more at home when I was actually in my own home. She does have a few dogs but they are amazingly well trained and only ever barely barked only when I was coming or going. Me being a dog lover, this was no issue with me at all. I highly recommend Karen if you are looking in the area.

    Sean2019-01-13T00:00:00Z
  • Karen's place is an old house on the outskirts of Troy, MO. It is a fenced property with several buildings within. The two spaces she has available are in the main building, the house that they live in. Both are on the second floor, and would be difficult to access for people who cannot climb stairs. Karen shares the house with her roommate, named Caren. I referred to the one present as Karen/Caren, and the one not present as Other Karen/Caren. They live there with their six dogs, and they regularly participate in dog shows. Both of them also sometimes provide temporary shelter to dogs in need. All of their dogs are very well behaved and quiet, and the place was quieter than most hotels I've been to. The space I rented was the one to the left when you reach the second floor. The door led to two rooms but only the outer room was in good shape. The inner room, only accessible from the outer room, was in bad shape and in need of repairs. The first room has its own bathroom. Karen's listing advertised the secondary inner room for children, but since I was alone I did not make use of it. The main things I liked about this place were access to the kitchen and the laundry room. Both were right next to each other. The house has an electric stove, and lots of cooking implements for whatever suits your need. Staying at even the cheapest of hotels would run you quite a bit of money you to not be able to cook your own meals nor be able to wash your laundry for free. The main drawbacks to this place are that it is cluttered, and some parts of the house were dusty and/or damaged. Also the room I was in was very cold, though I do not see this as a bad thing. I like the cold. Also if you're not a fan of dogs, you might not enjoy this place. Because this place is part of Lincoln County, you can take advantage of Oats, the public transportation system of Lincoln County to get around even without a vehicle. However one has to call days in advance to schedule a pickup. there is no Uber service here, though you can get an Uber to go to this place. while it is best to have your own vehicle when in Lincoln County, you can get away with a combination of oats and Uber if you are unable to drive around. The next time I am around there, I will probably stay here. It was a fun stay, and I thank you.

    Jose2018-04-04T00:00:00Z
  • Karen was a great host! We were so happy to find a place to stay with our dog while visiting the area. It was summer, and the queen bedroom with attached bathroom was cool and quiet. We were happy to find a small fridge (and several of bottles of water) provided in the attached closet. We slept like rocks. Karen easy to communicate with, and very helpful with regards to local things to see and do with our dog, including parks and restaurants with dog friendly patios. Guests should be prepared for a rousing welcome from the house pack when entering and exiting--if you love dogs, this is the place for you!

New luxury vinyl plank floors for entire house. Completely brand new HVAC system with two central air purifiers. Blackout bedroom blinds. 55" Roku TV, WiFi & Bose sound. Lots of natural light. Traveling physicians and professional writers routinely stay here.
Our house sits on top of a hill with no traffic. Safe and quiet neighborhood with zero crime. We know all of our neighbors and they are good folks. Lots of privacy and space.

  • The collection of Mark Twain memorabilia at Paul's house is amazing. I loved his collection of books and took down several titles to order from Amazon. There is a great deal to do in Hannibal. Book at least two nights. Paul has everything you need, the house is super-clean and comfortable. It was just the two of us but there is plenty of room for a family.

  • Dan is a great host and offers a peaceful setting. Dan was thoughtful and responsive and we loved the little extras. We did have a little trouble finding it but Dan was immediately available to help. Highly recommend.

  • The house was as advertised. It was clean and the covered deck out back with the picnic table was great for shade. Had a huge yard for outdoor activities. Would definitely rent this house again!

  • House is located on a corner away from nearby homes. It is beautifully quiet in the morning - having coffee on back deck was so peaceful. In the evenings we had a fire out back. House worked out fine for 3 couples.

    Sharon2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • My wife and I and another couple stayed at the Airbnb rental at 19944 Clinton Place in Monroe City, MO, for three nights last week. It was a good experience for us (4-1/2 stars). There was good communication with Dan (the owner) and no glitches in being able to get in with the code given to us or accessing Wi-Fi which was fast. The house was very clean and comfortable, with two areas for sitting and visiting, one with a TV. (If there was access to local stations, we didn’t figure that out, but there was access to Hulu, Amazon Prime, Netflix, and Roku.) The kitchen had nice full-size appliances and the basics for cooking/baking. A dining table seated four, and there was a basket of fruit and snack bars there for us to enjoy. The bedrooms are small. Two bedrooms had queen-size beds, one with a nightstand. The other was so small that it completely filled the room, leaving a small space to walk around it. The third bedroom was the smallest and had a double bed. (Closets had four hangers each, so we got a couple of packages when we went to Hannibal and left them for future guests.) One bathroom had a walk-in shower, sink, and toilet. The other had a tub w/shower, sink, and toilet. Very compact. There are a washer and dryer across from one of the bathrooms in the hallway. We didn’t use it, but laundry detergent was available, and the appliances were clean. The house is incredibly quiet! We were surprised and pleased! AC worked well, and there was plenty of hot water for our needs. The covered back porch had a picnic table and grill (we didn’t uncover the grill), and a metal free-standing firepit was near the porch, as well. The yard is HUGE (over 2.5 acres) with a wonderful field of wildflowers bordering the back yard. (The wildflowers attract LOTS of butterflies!) There is also a front porch, with access from one of the living areas. There were lovely flowers and a few trees to enjoy. This house is very rural! It’s about a mile from Mark Twain Lake and about a half hour’s drive from Hannibal. There are restaurants nearby, with Rustic Oak Cabin Steakhouse only about ten minutes away. (It was so good that we ate there twice in the three days we were there!) Our experience at this residence was a good one.

  • It will be clean and has a lot of things that you can use on your stay. Jim says there are stairs 16 of them . It was worth it.

This beautiful Victorian home located in the Maple Avenue Historic District, was designed by architect J.O. Hogg near the end of the 19th century. It is within walking distance to downtown Hannibal attractions, including Rockcliffe Mansion, Central Park, Main Street shops, art galleries, museums, restaurants, bars, and the Mississippi riverfront.
I have two guest bedrooms (listed and booked separately), and they are both on the second floor, along with the full bath. The half bath is on the main level. I offer guests a bar of Sweet Spirits Farm goat milk soap, handmade locally by my very own mom. Guests may enjoy the outdoor patio and other shared spaces throughout the house. You are welcome to brew coffee or tea, and I can share refrigerator space if you need it.
  • Great location, good size rooms, and comfortable bed!

  • A beautiful jewel of a home, an 1800's Mississippi River town Queen Ann Victorian , with exquisite woodwork, detailing, stairs, high ceilings, windows of light, shared spaces, and two lovely quest rooms. Location is walkable for river, downtown, neighborhood excursions. The gift of a fragrant bar of soap from Sweet Spirits Farm, New London MO, delighted me. I'll stop by again when Hannibal is on my route.

  • Wonderful place to stay within walking distance of the historic center. Alissa is a perfect host. Her cat Sami is a doll, we fell in love with him. Beautiful old Victorian home. Loved Hannibal and this Airbnb. Will be back. Highly recommend. Visit if you can.
