Places to stay in Alne

Places to stay in Alne
A completely self contained and private space in which to unwind. Quality vintage bed linen, towels and gowns are provided, as are basic ingredients for home cooking, garlic, herbs etc. Organic produce from the vegetable garden are available when there is a glut.
This is a unique opportunity to stay in our vintage showman's van set in mature gardens. It is a self contained open plan space consisting of a large double bed, a dining and sitting area, and a fully equipped kitchen with gas oven. The loo with hand wash basin and towel are in a separate hut beside the caravan. There is an outside cast iron bath in a secluded area nearby, heated with a wood burner. A supply of firewood is provided. There is a wood burning stove in the caravan, and we will ensure a good supply of dry firewood for your use. However, those wishing to use the bath more than once will have to gather their own firewood. You can of course bring your own wood supply if you prefer. Linen sheets, towels and bathrobes are provided. Fresh breakfast food is supplied. Requests for special dietary needs can be met if forewarned. There is ample parking space next to the caravan. There is a radio and ( rather patchy) internet connection but no television. Visitors are welcome to bring their dog, but only I dog at a time as the space is limited.
The village lies midway between the Yorkshire Dales and the Hambleton Hills and Moors, ("the Golden Triangle.") Leeds, Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk are all within easy reach. There are two pubs in the village, both serve meals during the daytime and evening. The New Inn in the next village, Tholthorpe, also serves evening meals, and has a newly installed wood fired pizza oven. There is a small shop/deli in the village which has a wide range of interesting fresh food. Borobridge and Easingwold are only 5 miles distant, where all you could need is available. This is a walker's paradise with many historic buildings, abbeys and castles to visit within a radius of 20 miles. (Castle Howard, Fountains Abbey, Newby Hall, Benningborough Hall, to name but a few) Fishing in the River Swale is popular, and day tickets can be obtained in the village. There are several good golf courses in the vicinity. As the immediate area is relatively flat being in the river valley, it is great for cycling,
  • Lovely hosts, beautiful location, much hugger than expected. A proper home from home with the added novelty of an outside bath.... Which is an absolute must. Would recommend to friends and family

  • We would highly recommend this Airbnb. We had an amazing couple of nights. The caravan is very special and the outdoor bath was lovely even mid February! There were so many lovely touches! Thankyou so much for hosting us

    Carrie2020-02-15T00:00:00Z
  • What a place!! The caravan was so cosy even through the storm. The bath was quite the experience, but one that has to be tried. The two dogs were our new best friends and Maggie was very welcoming! So nice to get away from it all, highly recommended

    Amy2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • Brilliant place to stay nice and cosy

    Daniel2020-01-26T00:00:00Z
  • A lovely and peaceful stay, thank you!

    Greg2019-11-03T00:00:00Z
  • The showman caravan is a fantastically unique place to stay. The log burning in the caravan made it super cozy and the outdoor was an amazing experience. Cannot recommend enough!

    Holly2019-10-27T00:00:00Z
  • If you want a quiet break away from it all, somewhere with real character and gracious hosts, we cannot recommend Maggie's place highly enough. Maggie, Humph and the dogs are lovely, attentive to your needs, while also giving you your privacy. The caravan is cosy but spacious enough for two to relax without getting under each other's feet, and while there is an electric heater, the wood burner gives it so much more character and ensures you'll be super snug even in the October rain. We'd also recommend making use of the outdoor shower and bath, even if the weather seems inclement. There was something truly magical about sitting back in a steaming hot candle lit bath in beautiful surroundings with cool rain pattering down through the tree canopy above.

    Eddy2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • What an incredible space. Perfect getaway for some peace and quiet, and to enjoy the quirky features that are on offer. Maggie was great and very accommodating. We loved the 'back to basics' charm of the place and wouldn't hesitate to go back again.

  • Large bedroom room with lovely view. A nice and cosy private lounge, with real fire place. Very friendly and helpful hosts. They pointed me towards some very good local pubs (I tried one for an evening meal). I was welcome to cook my own meals in their kitchen, which was a nice touch. Really enjoyed my stay in the lovely country village of great ouseburn.

My place is situated on the edge of this picturesque village green with duck pond and maypole. 20 minutes from York and Harrogate. You’ll love Garden Cottage because of its view over the beautiful garden. The village has great country walks and good access including rail to York and surrounding towns. The Cottage has a super king comfy bed, the kitchen has fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster. Excellent pub within 2 minutes walk.
I provide Wheetabix, Cornflakes, semi skimmed milk, tea, coffee and sugar.
Our village has no through traffic which is extra special and quiet. The cottages surround the village green with a duck pond and maypole. We have an excellent pub The Alice Hawthorn which people travel far and wide to visit. It is better to book Tel: ((PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN)). Just to let you know The Alice is closed on Monday and Tuesday. We have a Thai restaurant next the the garage at the top of the road A59 and also a Farm Shop which provides delicious breakfasts and lunches. There are menus in Garden cottage.

  • Excellent little cottage for two people. Kitchen area, bathroom and bedroom/dining area with tv. We took PS4 to watch Netflix and the wifi worked fine. Lovely picturesque village with walks and a great local pub/restaurant. Great host, Gillian who responded to every query almost immediately. Short drive to Chinese restaurant Sweet Basil which was very good. Also nearby train station of Hammerton which was a quick and convenient way of getting to York for the day. Overall, excellent and would stay again.

    Greg2020-01-04T00:00:00Z
  • Cottage is so cosy, the location is perfect. We went to the vineyard which is worth a visit. Gillian is a fab host and responses very quickly. The local pub food is amazing, very friendly, welcoming staff. Would recommend this place is visiting Knarsborough or York.

  • Gillians place is beautiful. The cottage is clean, private, warm and cosy, in a perfect location. The place is in a quiet and peaceful village between York and Harrogate, which we found fine (in the dark) thanks to Gillians great directions. The underfloor heating is powerful and the place is very comfortable. Thanks Gillian

  • A lovely cottage in a beautiful quiet village location. The cottage was very comfortable and clean - with lovely comfortable beds. Very warm and snug with plenty of hot water. Lots to do in the area. York centre very easy to get to.

    Gary2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here with our 7 month baby as a 2 night stop over on the way to Glasgow from London. The cottage was super clean and a lovely place to rest up on our journey. The surrounding area was absolutely gorgeous. Wish we’d been there in time on Saturday to buy a few cakes from the local bakery van! The cottage was very warm with plenty of logs/ kindling for the log burner, which made the living room extra cosy. The kitchen had everything we needed. We arrived at 17:30 on a Saturday without doing a shop before hand. Fortunately the village shop 1.5 miles away in Tollerton was open until 6pm for a few essentials. However if planning to arrive in the evening, I’d recommend bringing milk, bread etc as the nearest supermarket is 8 miles away.

    Suzanne2020-03-02T00:00:00Z
  • We had such a great stay at Stephen and Rachel’s cottage. It has everything you would need for a comfortable stay, very clean and is in a lovely village location about 20mins from York. We had two small children with us and it’s a very child friendly cottage with stair gates and a lovely room on the third floor complete with soft toys and books. I would definitely recommend anyone to hire this cottage.

Cast iron free standing bath, master bedroom. Open plan kitchen and living space is an ideal communal area with a quiet sitting room on the first floor overlooking our gardens. We are very happy for you to use our outdoor seating areas for alfresco dining or relaxing, as well as the "hen house" this is our garden summer house. My son who is living in our main house has a puppy (May 2018), and will use our garden. He (Stan) is very sociable particularly to people.
We live directly opposite the Blue Bell pub that has a very good reputation for food and drink, we are accesable to picturesque North Yorkshire villages as well as having a convenient bus route into the centre of York. The village has 3 tennis courts that are very well maintained. There is an honesty box for people that use these facilities. There is a lovely children's play area that is well equipped and safe. We are happy to recommend other restaurants to match a range of budgets as well as a variety of takeaway establishments.

Jayne and Eddie were great hosts who showed us around the property and gave us advice for things to do. what we liked the most was they left us to our trip. The house itself very clean and has everything you need for a comfortable stay and without any need to bring various bits from home. Lovely welcome with a bottle of wine, tea cakes etc supplied. We will be visiting again

The Control Tower was built in 1943 on the edge of the village of Tholthorpe, 13 miles north of York. We converted the derelict building into a family home, inspired by mid century modernist architecture and design. There is a feeling of space, light and amazing 360 views. It is a large private apartment which includes the whole of the 1st floor and balcony, plus a 2nd en -suite bedroom on the ground floor. There is also access to the roof and a lookout lounge to enjoy the views.
We offer 15% Discount for 7 nights. The Control Tower was a WW2 Bomber Command Control Tower, built in 1943 in the village of Tholthorpe, 13 miles north of York. Four Canadian Squadrons were based here 420 Snowy Owl, 425 Alloette, 431 Iroquois and 434 Bluenose. We feel privileged to live here and to be custodians of such an important Wartime building. We converted the derelict building into a family home over 25 years ago and have more recently divided it into 2 separate luxury living spaces. The Control Tower is set away from the road and is surrounded by arable fields, it is a very quiet and peaceful rural location. The Control Tower has two double bedrooms, one with en-suite shower room on the ground floor. The other bedroom has a large bathroom situated across the landing on the first floor. This bedroom also has a single folding chair bed. It can be made up with prior arrangement if two guests do not want to share the double bed. The main kitchen, living and dining space is on the first floor. This was originally the main Control Room when the building was operational. It is a large open space with views North to the White Horse at Kilburn, East to the Wolds and West to the Dales on a clear day. There is a balcony that spans the width of the building from the kitchen to the lounge and is ideal for taking in the view, it is lovely to sit out and spot the local wildlife, have a coffee, a glass of wine, or a meal and watch the sunrise or sunset! The kitchen is very well equipped and has a 2 oven Aga and an electric hob and oven, which can be used when the Aga is switched off in the summer. There is a microwave, dishwasher and large american style fridge- freezer with ice dispenser. For coffee lovers we supply fresh coffee beans, a grinder, espresso pot or cafetiere and a milk frother! In the lounge area there is a wood burning stove, two sofas, a smart TV, DVD player, a record deck and an eclectic vinyl collection. All rooms are comfortably furnished and have central heating. There is also a small roof top sun lounge up an exterior flight of stairs for the use of guests to enjoy the amazing panoramic view, wildlife spotting and star gazing!
Neighbourhood overview The picturesque village of Tholthorpe is a 10 min walk from here and has a green, duck pond and The New Inn pub, which serves excellent food and has a wood fired pizza oven (it has a small shop which is open when the pub is!) There is also Hartleys, an excellent family Butchers situated on Back Lane. The village green has a Memorial to the Canadians who served here during the War. There are many other surrounding villages with lovely village pubs, many serving great food and real ales. The closest shop is about a 5 minute drive to the village of Tollerton. The nearest supermarket is in Easingwold, a small market town 10 mins drive away. There are some spectacular places to visit, not only is the Historic City of York a short drive away, there are lovely market towns to visit such as Ripon, Knaresborough & Malton. Harrogate and Leeds are also within easy reach. The East Coast is also very accessible, the nearest resorts are Scarborough, Filey and Bridlington with Whitby about an 1hr 30mins away. The North York Moors are also well worth exploring starting at the White horse in Kilburn, there are numerous places of historical interest, such as Rievaulx Abbey and Terraces, Byland Abbey, Helmsley Castle and Walled Gardens, Castle Howard and the North York Moors Railway to name but a few. The countryside and scenery of North Yorkshire is stunning, not only looking out from The Control Tower but by foot, bike or car. It is becoming very well known for excellent cycling routes with the very popular Tour de Yorkshire on our doorstep! We have 3 bicycles available to loan if required.
  • The Control Tower at Tholthorpe is a wonderful unique place for a break away & we all thoroughly enjoyed our weekend here. Rosy was a fabulous host, the building has an interesting WW2 history & the amenities/decor are to a high standard. Highly recommended to all

  • The control tower is even more stunning than the photos suggest. We had a fantastic weekend exploring York and Harrogate whilst having a tranquil relaxing place to return to. The park and ride was great too for York as it runs quite late so a day ticket let us use it both for daytime then also evening visit to York for dinner. I'm sure we'll be back to stay in future. All the little touches really made it wonderful!

    Dominic2019-11-11T00:00:00Z
  • Highly recommend. Beautiful area. Rosy is lovely, the extra little touches were a lovely welcoming. We found the place easily, lots of space for parking. The living room had a vinyl record player which was lovely to listen to whilst playing board games in the evening. Everything was wonderful and the history was really interesting.

    Claire2019-11-04T00:00:00Z
  • The control tower is an amazing place with near 360 views from the lounge. The whole place is clean and spotless, with all the amenities that you need when away from home. Rosy and Paul are tremendous hosts, a genuinely friendly couple; giving information on where to visit and to eat out. York is only a short distance, with its beautiful shops. Castle Howard is another place to visit. Or you can sit in and watch the wildlife and walk to the village pub for great food and a warm welcome. We will return in the summer.

Lovely little village, a proper taste of Yorkshire. The place itself is beautiful. Clean, modern, well equipped. Lovely open plan space and the fire is amazing, especially at this time of year. • This place is the best value for money Air BnB I've ever experienced! Everything is immaculate and the property itself is something out of an interior design magazine. The location is great for a trip away together and Sarah was very warm and welcoming. No qualms at all, best air bnb I've been to!

    Samantha2020-02-04T00:00:00Z
  • Let me start with my closing comment... to anyone reading this, stay here! This is, without a doubt, one of the most unique and rare finds in the middle of one of the most beautiful counties in England. The space is stylish, clean, atmospheric, with vintage touches and a real sense of class. Being able to light a real lot fire in the countryside is both romantic and everything that you would hope for in a countryside cottage. It would easy to write far more words, each positive about this exceptional property, but what I would rather do is recommend this stay, not only because of the cottage itself, but rather of the host, Sarah. :) i have not had a stay where someone has been so thoughtful and so detailed. Thank you Sarah!

  • The best AirBnB I’ve stayed in by a mile. The barn has been decorated beautifully, really stylish and loads of cool/thoughtful touches. I will definitely be stealing some decor ideas for my own place! The bathrooms were extremely clean and modern, and the shower in the en-suite is one you won’t want to get out of. The kitchen was spotless and really well equipped, it had everything we needed to make a couple of meals during our stay. I also had the best sleep I’ve had for months under that duvet. We loved using the log fire in the evening to give us that extra bit of warmth. Richard and Sarah’s communications were great throughout. Unfortunately the Alice Hawthorne pub was closed for our visit but Sarah recommended some great alternatives. They were also very accommodating by giving us a later checkout. We did have a couple of issues during our stay. The WiFi was down for the best part of a day, but that can’t be helped and tbh, we quite enjoyed not having our phones to look at for a few hours. We also got locked in the bedroom for 10 mins due to the doorknob coming loose, but Richard was really apologetic and sorted the problem. I would recommend anyone looking at visiting the area to stay here. It’s the perfect place to spend a few days relaxing. We did not want to leave!

We have 2 pubs in the village both of which serve excellent food Reservations always recommend Dawney Arms 01347 848345 The Blacksmiths Arms 01347848249

My place is close to great views, pubs and scenic places. My place is good for couples, solo adventurers, business travellers, and families (with kids). The studio is self contained , private, light and airy with wonderful views over looking fields of open countryside. There is a large garden which you are welcome to use. There is plenty of space for parking and a lockable bike storage is provided. The Village has a post office which is adequately stocked for essentials if needed.
In the studio there is a double bed, a sofa which pulls out into a double bed which is suitable for 2 small adults /children. There are 2 bedside tables with reading lights, a mounted TV, chest of drawers, Bluetooth and a little dining table . There is a kitchen where you will find a kettle, toaster, a small induction hob, microwave grill/combination and a fridge. Breakfast is on a help yourself basis . Toast, cereals , croissants, butter, jam, marmalade, tea, coffee, sugar , milk, juice and our home laid eggs plus local dry - cured bacon and sausages will be provided. There is a bathroom with all the necessary essentials. Towels and toilet paper will also be provided.
Great Ouseburn is a quiet and lovely village for strolling around or if you feel energetic, you can walk to the neighbouring villages of upper dunsforth (about 10/15 mins walk) and lower dunsforth (30 mins walk). There are also several pubs , all within a 5/10 mins drive away which also serve delicious locally sourced food. Boroughbridge is the nearest market town ( 3 miles ) where you can easily find good cafes and shops. The towns of Knaresborough,Ripon and Harrogate are all within 30/35 minutes drive away. • Amazing place!! Great pubs near by and beautiful views. Gloria was very helpful and friendly I will be back again. 5 star Fantastic

    Patrick2020-03-09T00:00:00Z
  • Graeme and Gloria were wonderful hosts, our stay was so comfortable and it was so easy to check in and out using the lock box. Their place is so relaxing and is right in the countryside, with chickens and farmers fields around, such a nice quiet area! There was also cereal, eggs, bacon, sausages, croissants, bread tea and coffee there waiting on arrival what more could you need! Would definitely recommend!

    Maxine2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • We had a lovely stay at Graeme and Gloria’s annex. The views from the bed are wonderful. What a treat to wake up to such beautiful countryside. Gloria spoiled us with fresh eggs, bacon and sausages. The annex is well equipped with everything you could possibly need. It’s very easy to get to the park and ride fur York (we used Poppleton Bar) We had a meal at the Punch Bowl Inn in the evening which is about 5 minutes drive. I can thoroughly recommend staying at Graeme and Gloria‘s

    Michaela2020-03-01T00:00:00Z
  • Gloria’s place is at the end of a quaint Yorkshire village with glorious views towards the Hamilton Hills. The accommodation is small but so cleverly arranged that you lack for nothing. The breakfast is amazing and everything is of top quality.

  • Spent the weekend here with my sister for a bit of family time. Beautiful space to stay in, stunning and peaceful views of the countryside. Super easy to check in and some helping hints for local walks. Lots of breakfast choices left for us which were unexpected, towels and toiletries provided. Only downside is no pub/restaurant within walking distance, closest was a few miles walking on an unlit road but easy to get to by car. Would love to stay again.

    Rebecca2020-02-03T00:00:00Z

  • Beautiful apartment, very clean, interesting village. Angela was very helpful providing extras we needed such as cot and low chair. There was even some milk, bread and a bottle of wine when we got there.

    Ben2020-03-08T00:00:00Z
  • Me and my boyfriend stayed here for 2 nights over valentines day and this stylish little getaway massively exceeded our expectations. When we arrived the flat was spotless and even more gorgeous than it looks in the photos. Angela had put out a vase of fresh roses for us and stocked up on essentials like tea/ coffee/ sugar/ milk as well as cereal and a loaf of bread with butter and jam for our breakfast. The bathroom is heavenly, we each had long showers in the morning and the temperature and pressure stayed perfect for both of us. The bed is incredible, the most comfortable nights sleep I've had in a long time. The village it's self is beautiful and well positioned for days out in harrogate and York and the pub round the corner does amazing food, I'd thoroughly recommend booking a table if you stay here. Plenty of plug sockets, fast wifi, huge TV for movie nights and a stunning location. This should be SO MUCH MORE EXPENSIVE than it is, can't recommend it enough! Thank you Angela!

Perfect for a peaceful country getaway, we will stay here again. Thanks to our hosts for their hospitality!

  • Absolutely amazing stay. I organised a long weekend away here, for my my wife's 30th birthday. She loved it!!!! Pure luxury, character, and just an all round beautiful home. The hot tub was fantastic on a cold weekend and the house was so warm and inviting. We ate at a local English pub which was fantastic. Lucy messaged us to give us an extended check out which was amazing given it was a stormy Sunday when we were leaving. We had such a relaxing time! So many beautiful touches including the chess board, the record player, the gin, and all the Yorkshire tea and lollies. Lucy and Ben were very welcoming, good communicators and made the weekend a fantastic trip away. Thank you!

I live in the pretty village of Great Ouseburn, 10 minutes from the market town of Boroughbridge. A 30 minute drive from both Harrogate and York. The Annexe is excellent value for money and offers comfortable, cosy and well equipped accommodation, with everything you need for a relaxing stay for a couple of days or a longer. Although it is linked to my home, It is self contained with its own entrance, giving guests their freedom and privacy.
The Annexe has its own entrance at the front of the property, so guests can come and go as they please. The accommodation is all on one level, no stairs and has central heating throughout. The bedroom has a comfortable double bed with hypo allergenic bedding. The ensuite has a walk in shower (no bath). A range of Caroline Henry individual toiletries are provided. The sitting room has a television with Freeview and a dvd player with a good selection of films. There is a good range of books, games and jigsaws and a CD player with a varied selection of CDs. The kitchen is very well equipped with a full range of appliances. Everything you would need for a couple of days or self catering for a longer stay. There is also the usual kettle, toaster and microwave and a Dolce Gusto coffee machine for coffee lovers with a selection of pods. Tea, coffee, sugar, milk and a full range of breakfast goodies are provided for guests with some little added extras for those staying longer than a couple of nights. There isn't a washing machine in the Annexe but the washing machine in my kitchen is available on request. Parking is available at the front of the property, through the gate, on the gravelled area and there is plenty of space for bicycles. The annexe is part of my family home and sometimes used for extended family and friends, please respect the furniture and contents as you would your own. The Annexe is suitable for all ages. For a relaxing break and enjoying everything that the beautiful county of North Yorkshire has to offer.
Great Ouseburn is a small village in the Vale of York. It has a well stocked village shop and Post Office. We currently do not have an open pub in the village but there is an excellent variety of pubs, restaurants and takeaways to suit all tastes, within a 10 minute drive. Details of these and attractions to visit in the area are in the info pack in the Annexe kitchen. The bar, run by the cricket club at the village hall is open from mid April to mid September during the cricket season on Saturdays 4pm-9pm, all are welcome. For guests looking for ultimate relaxation, the spa at Aldwark Manor golf and leisure, is less than a 10 minute drive. The spa offers a wide range of treatments. Advance booking is recommended. Great Ouseburn is only half an hours drive from both York and the spa town of Harrogate. Only an hours drive away are the Yorkshire Dales, Grassington, Burnsall and Skipton, popular with walkers and tourists alike and an hour and a halfs drive to the coast, Scarborough and Whitby, popular coastal towns to visit. Yorkshire offers plenty of days out for visitors, be it walking, visiting the many interesting towns and cities, museums, stately homes and gardens...there is something for everyone.
  • We have stayed a number of times with Tricia and it never fails to delight. Already booked our next stay at Easter. The location is so convenient for York and NT houses, gardens etc. The accommodation is great and the welcome pack is so generous. Difficult to add to previous reviews but cannot recommend it highly enough. Tricia is a charming host and the welcome is always warm.

  • Yet another faultless stay at The Annexe! We love coming here and it is so convenient for both York and Harrogate. • Great location in North Yorkshire. The overall quality of the accommodation is excellent and the extra special touches e.g. prosecco, range of breakfast items and the friendliness of the host makes it even more special. There is a great attention to detail regarding suggested places to visit and eat in the locality.

Chute House provides a lovely 4 bedroom character home with private off road parking and a sunny rear patio garden. It is situated in the renowned village of Alne, just 10 miles from York and with easy access to Harrogate, the Dales, the North York Moors and the Coast. The village boasts a dining pub and a recreational park minutes away.
Chute House is part of ‘The Maltings’, substantial brick built agricultural buildings dating from the 1850’s used for storing and malting barley grown on local arable farms. This grain storage facility and malt house ceased operation in the mid 20th century and was converted into homes in 2003. Chute House, the largest of the six homes that form ‘The Maltings’ hosts evidence of a drying kiln and grain chute.
Alne is a small charming North Yorkshire village with a local pub/restaurant - The Blue Bell and a Cart near the Norman church for eggs, jams and other fresh local produce. Easingwold, 4 miles away is our local Georgian Market Town with a thriving open market on Friday’s. It has a wide selection of shops - butchers, bakers, shoe repairers, hairdressers, cafes and pubs. Additionally a small Co-op and two convenience stores. Just over a mile away in the opposite direction is Tollerton with an award winning village shop and Post Office. There are many interesting places to visit both near and far. National Cycling Route 65 passes through Alne and there are fabulous local walks too. The White Horse of Kilburn, the home of ‘Mousy’Thompson furniture, the Yorkshire Gliding Club, Byland Abbey, Rievaulx Abbey and the famous Ampleforth Abbey and College are all a short drive away. The Howardian Hills, an area of outstanding natural beauty, and Castle Howard the film location for ‘Brideshead Revisited’, is also on our doorstep.
  • A beautiful home - very comfortable and feels lived in, without feeling like you’ve moved into someone’s personal space. Cosy, clean, fresh, stylish. Loved the open plan living area, large sitting room with fire and separate cosy TV room. The kitchen is worth of a special mention - we love to cook, so well equipped with everything you could ever need.

  • Diana is a genuinely lovely lady and a perfect host. We absolutely loved staying in her exceptionally beautiful home with the prettiest garden.

    Sandra2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Diana’s place is amazing, very spacious and peaceful. Great location with short commute to York. The bedroom we stayed was big, bright and cozy. Continental breakfast was perfect and Diana’s home made jam was tasty. Diana is an amazing host, friendly and attentive, made sure everything was ok every day of our stay. Also, she gave local information and recommended places to eat around the area. The two dogs were very friendly. I would recommend the place 100% and definitely will be back when visiting Yorkshire again.

Very accommodating, especially as we had some car issues while we were there. Perfectly placed for exploring the dales. Recommend this place to anyone looking for a nice short stay in Yorkshire.

  • Stunning house, amazing location, lovely hospitality. Thanks again, we had a great time, loved all the thoughtful touches and would absolutely recommend the house. One of the best experiences I've had on AirBnB.

  • Superb place to stay for six people .....own bathrooms so no awkward times. Near to good eatery and bus stop into York. Drove this time but might consider train if we come again and then bus to village. Excellent welcome pack and hospitality.

    Kathryn2019-11-10T00:00:00Z
  • We couldn’t believe how lovely The Old Post Office was! It’s even better than the pictures. Everything is of the highest quality and we found everything we needed. We arrived in the evening when it was dark and were greeted by our hosts who showed us into the most welcoming entrance hallway, with a under heated floor. We all knew the minute we entered we were in for a treat!! I couldn’t believe how lovely everywhere looked in the morning when I opened the curtains. The entire house was amazing, from its cleanliness to the comfortable beds, top quality bedding/towels/kitchen appliances, everything was just perfect. I would recommend The Old Post Office to my Family and Closest friends and can’t wait to return myself.

  • We stayed in bedroom 1 which also had an extremely large private bathroom. The bed was very comfy and the room was spacious. The check in process was very smooth and Diana was very accommodating throughout our one night stay. A good range of breakfast items are provided. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking to visit York and would prefer to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre. It is about a 20 minute drive into York city centre.

  • Would highly recommend, Diana is such a sweet lady and her dogs were lovely too. The house is really nice and comfortable, I don’t think the pictures and information did it the justice it deserves. Would definitely return.

Many lovely days out can be enjoyed from here. • We had a fantastic 5 days staying at the Barn despite the weather! It’s very comfortable, cosy and most importantly warm and is equipped with everything you need. The layout worked out really well for our family of 3 and 2 dogs. Lesley and Graham were such friendly and welcoming hosts; Lesley brought over a warm apple crumble within 20 mins of being there which we devoured! The Barn is in a good central location for trips to York, Harrogate and Fountains Abbey etc. We would highly recommend this property and hope to return!

  • The Barn was a lovely surprise in the lovely and quiet setting of Lower Dunsforth. Only a short drive from York also the Dales in the other direction, the Barn was the perfect location for us. It was really clean and spotless and Lesley had made a real effort to make us feel immediately comfortable, such as providing extra towels without being asked when I informed her our son from York had unexpectedly come to stay for the first night. The premises was really pleasant with all the amenities anyone might want. I and my wife would thoroughly recommend this as a great base for this area.

  • Gorgeous cottage with everything you need right & in the middle of the countryside, great location for exploring North Yorkshire villages. Lovely place to stay with some extra special touches from the host, Lesley. Very relaxing perfect place to unwind!

    Eve2018-08-27T00:00:00Z
  • Peaceful little barn with everything you need. Hosts are really friendly and helpful and make a delicious crumble. Only downside was that all the footpaths in and out of the village are overgrown and badly maintained. This isn’t something that the hosts can influence but something to bear in mind if you bring a dog. Peaceful, clean, quiet and just right!!

    Nicholas2018-07-13T00:00:00Z
  • great place in a great setting, wall to wall sunshine helped this week had an excellent stay - cant fault it

    Ken2018-07-06T00:00:00Z
  • The barn was delightful and just what we hoped it would be, the hospitality exceptional, very friendly hosts who were kind enough to provide milk when we arrived and a crumble when we got back one day. Accessible to York, the Dales, the North York Moors, Knaresborough and Harrogate, with long, light days, we have fallen in love with Yorkshire. We'll be back!

    Jean2018-06-17T00:00:00Z
  • What a find! The location was fabulous, very quiet & peaceful. Lots of great walks in & around the area. The cottage was lovely & spotlessly clean, everything you could possibly need was provided, including a very welcome rhubarb & apple crumble! Having the use of a large garden, private parking space and really friendly hosts, Lesley & Graham, it couldn’t have been any better.

The home is cosy and kitted out with everything you need (and the added bonus of a hot tub!) A stones throw away from a lovely country pub and on a bus route of you feel like you need to venture out. We were planning to, until we arrived and then we scrapped all our plans and stayed in the cottage and relaxed the whole weekend ! It was bliss...would definitely recommend. we have had the best couple of day’s and feel totally chilled.

    Carly2019-01-20T00:00:00Z
  • Tracy and Gary were the most amazing hosts. The cheeky chicken cottage was so sweet and cosy and the hot tub was amazing. They are the most caring hosts, and made sure our stay was really special. It was our anniversary/birthday weekend and they put up decorations to celebrate that, which was really cute. They also made sure the hot tub was preheated and provided bathrobes, flip flops and towels as well! The animals on the farm are so adorable and it was nice to go and see them. Thank you for an amazing stay guys!! The village is so cute and the surrounding area is perfect for a quiet, relaxing weekend. It’s also super easy to get into York if you want to, only took us 25 minutes with the park and ride! We’d love to come back in the future so thanks for hosting us!
