Private, newly built bungalow on 3 acres in a lush, ancient mango grove and jungle. 3 mile walk or drive&walk to the new black sand beaches. Screened in lanai with private yard. Easier to get to now due to the new highway 132. Gps is still not up to date so definitely make sure you take the new highway 132 with amazing ocean views.
“We really enjoyed our stay at Jason & Guthrie’s place, it was quiet and remote which was exactly what we were looking for. It’s in a great location–very close to the Mermaid Pools, the new black sand beach, and several other interesting destinations. Just the road there is magical–it’s truly in a jungle! We ended up cooking the majority of our meals at the bungalow since there were limited options in town (and we like cooking). The facilities at the house are new and were more than adequate for our needs. There's fantastic stargazing, a super peaceful environment, and on top of all this, the unit is off-grid! It’s so cool and inspiring that they’ve built all this with sustainability considerations. On our way out of town, we spotted this beautiful sight of some sprouting coconuts left in the nearby lava fields. This area is a special place where the people here have endured the power of nature and totally respect it. We would absolutely stay here again.”
This little screened-in, open-air Hale is nestled in a native Ohia rainforest between Hilo & Pahoa. The Hale is completely off-the-grid, uses solar power (generator backup) and has rain catchment. Private outdoor bathroom and shower. Secure, covered parking available. There is no kitchen and no refrigeration, but there is a camping stove and utensils plus a cooler to store all food - if your items are perishable, bring ice!
“I was already excited to stay at this spot, but walking up to Cary's place nestled in the rain forest was magical. Cary is a traveler herself, so each item in this cozy, open-air ohana was clearly carefully chosen. I cooked most meals on the camp stove, loved the outdoor shower, and the bed was super comfortable. Cary was very thoughtful about giving me privacy, but was also very welcoming and provided some great local recommendations for hikes and beaches to explore. I'm so grateful that she's created this magical spot for travelers to visit, and that I got to spend a few nights there. Mahalo!!”
Awake with the rooster and doze off to the sound of the ocean and the coquis. We live in a beautiful rural setting on the East side of Big Island, Hawaii, 8 miles from the groovy town of Pahoa. Pahoa is the gateway to seeing the lava flow into the ocean, surf on the east side, strumming an ukulele under a coco tree, soaking in lava heated pools and many more adventures. Welcome to our island and little piece of paradise. We are here to serve you and help you enjoy your stay. E komo mai!
“Although my visit was short, I had an amazing time staying at Amalia and Kyle's cabin. The drive to their farm through the lava flows and lush jungle was an adventure in itself. I recommend this place for someone who is looking to get off the grid for a bit and chill. Do go check out the mermaid ponds and if you happen to be there on Wednesday evening you don’t want to miss Uncle Roberts Farmers Market! Kyle and Amalia were very warm and welcoming. Would definitely stay here again my next time on the Big Island.”
