Ancient House in the center of Padula

AlanisRating, 5 stars58 months ago
An antique house in Padula, we really couldn't have asked for a more authentic place to stay than this in the beguilling Parco Nazionale del Cilento. From the balcony immense vistas stretched out across the Vallo di Diano, we really weren't ready for that surprise, we stood on the balcony for almost an hour, it was just so breath-taking, we couldn't tear ourselves away to unpack. We were so happy to stay here and would have bought the house and never left if it were possible.... The house had everything we needed for our stay, including a well equipped kitchen, a washing machine and the hosts were more than kind enough to leave us many ingredients for cooking. We were comfortable throughout our stay. The building itself is a robust stone built construction, we didnt need to turn on the A/C even once it was so naturally cool. The apartment all accessed from road level, but the second you entre it the quirky layout will make you want to expolre all of it several times over, something we never normally do in an AirBnB. Theres so much more of it than you at first observe. The interior is simply and beautifully decorated, furnished and in keeping with the period of the building. The two main bedrooms were very large and there is a small annexed bedroom/study wonderful and full of inspiring sunlight. In fact the apartment could have comfortably hosted two couples and a fifth person. We had no trouble parking our rental car (Fiat Panda). The property had a lockup garage opposite the entrance to the apartment. And if we didn't feel like parking in the garage there is free parking in either the nearby piazza or one terrace below our apartment building, outside of the popular local restaurant. During our stay in Padula we visited many many other places in the beautiful Costiera Cilento including the nearby Certosa di San Lorenzo (monastery which you will be looking down upon the first time you stare out across the valley from the apartment balcony), Joe Petrosino Museum, and beaches/waterfalls. And certainly not to be missed the restaurant next to the monastery "Il Certosino Ristorante Pizzeria", the best freshly made gnocchi we have ever tasted and we went back to eat there sevearal times just to eat gnocchi, great prices, delicious food and wine. A million thanks to our lovely hosts, Francesca and Stefania for the chance to stay somewhere so tranquil and beautiful.... Alanis, Rosa and Steven xxx.

The 12th-century castle, the rooms exude the charming atmosphere of old times. Stone walls, wooden ceilings, very comfortable beds and pillows. I love this small castle on the mountain top!

Torre Alta: Ancient Stone House with Sea View

Tracy LouiseRating, 5 stars1 month ago
Maria’s home was perfect, beautiful location, immaculate, beautifully decorated and well equipped with everything you will need. The bed was comfortable and the view from the bedroom balcony was heavenly - especially first thing in a morning when you open the doors to mist settling over the mountains and the silent ancient town below. The rooftop terrace also offers amazing views and is the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine after a day of sightseeing. Tortorella is a hidden gem, a town where time has stood still for many years, come evening the area is literally silent. Incredibly peaceful, the most authentic rural Italian experience you’re ever likely to find. Maria was so much more than an airb&b host, she went above and beyond to make our stay special, introducing us to the lovely locals and even acting as a personal tour guide on our final evening. Always available for advice and recommendations. This is a trip we will never forget and we will definitely return.
