Norcross is a suburb of Atlanta just over 20 minutes away from the city center whose entire downtown area is listed in the National Register of Historic Places. The Welcome Center and Museum offers insight into the local heritage of Norcross as well as the baseball history of the area. The town’s old train station has been transformed into a picturesque eatery, and the Historic Norcross Cotton Gin is home to various local merchants. You’ll also find a vibrant art scene in Norcross, with galleries and street art throughout the town. Green spaces and gardens are placed around the city so that you won’t feel too far from nature, and if you’re looking for more action, you can always take a day trip to Atlanta.

Each season holds something different for Norcross. The spring months are generally mild and pleasant, ideal weather for strolling the town to admire the preserved historic buildings and the town’s gardens when they’re at their best. The summer months bring the Georgia heat, but also several fun festivals, including the Blueberry & Beer Festival and the Indie Green Vegan Festival, which both happen in August. This is also the time to enjoy free concerts in Betty Mauldin Park, in the heart of downtown, or to admire the blooms of Discovery Garden Park.

Fall temperatures stay warm, and a favorite of this season is the Norcross Art Splash, which features wine-tasting, artisan booths, and live music. The winter months are cooler, though it never gets too cold in Georgia — a sweater or light jacket should provide plenty of warmth. The streets transform during the holiday season when the town hosts the festive Heart of Norcross Christmas Village, accompanied by a tree-lighting ceremony and live music.

Fire Station Museum

Norcross has turned its old fire station into a small museum whose centerpiece is a restored 1942 truck that was converted into a fire engine. Lining the walls of the museum are brightly painted panels illustrating different aspects of firefighting history in the Norcross area, along with a selection of fire-related memorabilia.

Thrasher Park

Thrasher Park is just a short distance from downtown Norcross. With lots of green space for running and playing around in, the park hosts a playground and a gazebo, as well as an amphitheater where you’ll find regular, free concerts. There are community activities held in the park year-round, including the Christmas Tree Lighting in December.

Welcome Center and Museum

The Norcross Welcome Center doubles as a museum of local history and baseball memorabilia. The local Old Timers Baseball Association furnished the latter collection to honor the 16 local players who signed professional baseball contracts between 1910 and 1950 — more than any other town, per capita, in the US. Learn which local streets were named for notable players while admiring vintage uniforms, autographed bats and balls, and several fine trophies.
