Monthly Rentals in Kuru

The Airbnb is on a remote island in a lake, only to be reached by boat. No running water is available, so be aware that you will not have your daily morning shower (but a dip in the lake instead?), a water toilet or you can waste drinking water. Water for doing the dishes and "shower" comes from the lake, drinking water needs to be carried with you or has to be organized. The toilet is a classical outhouse. All this worked well for me, I even enjoyed this style of living for a few days. It gets you back to basics and makes you rethink or value your "normal" style of living. I especially enjoyed the absolute quietness with basically no human made sound. Hannu and Erja are two open-minded and kindhearted people, it was a joy to learn to know them. They let me use their sauna for free, we chatted, had a coffee together and just were good neighbors. I highly appreciate the opportunity they offer through Airbnb for living my dream of "a real Finnish experience". I would totally come back!

If you're looking for peace and silence, enjoy nature, feel the urge to slow down and agree with the "less is more", this is the place to go! We had a lovely and romantic couple's weekend at Katariina's sauna hut with candles replacing the electric lights and fireplace keeping us warm. Sauna was amazing and getting the water from the lake through 30 cm thick ice was a fun adventure (all the tools for making an ice hole were offered by the hut). At the hut the time pauses and you can feel your batteries being charged by the energy of the nature. It's a good place to figure out how little one actually needs to feel happy. The views in the living room are fairytale. We got good instructions from Hanna, so the stay went smoothly.
