OCEANSIDE RETREAT

A beachfront studio unit sleeping 5 on the same large rural beachfront property as Penguins Retreat and Whitebait Cottage. The sleeping area of the large unit is divided into two so that the queen bed and the second area with another queen bed and single bed have visual privacy but the wall does not go to the ceiling We do not live on the property so this place suits independent travellers who have a car, wanting to spend time on a west coast beach. Only 3 minutes drive to Hokitika township.

Located on our little hobby farm in HariHari about 4.5 kms off state highway 6. Our cottage is divided into two beautiful fully equipped studio units. The units are suitable for couples or a single person. The area is very quiet has great views of the surrounding farm land, trees, mountains and our garden. If you want to cook in the little kitchen you will have to bring food with you the nearest supermarket is either in Franz Josef Glacier or Hokitika. The local hotel serves evening meals.

This house sits opposite the Tasman Sea with stunning views over the ocean and south to New Zealand's highest peak - Mount Cook. The views are stunning often with beautiful sunsets. We are a 5 mins drive to Greymouth and it is 1 km neat to the start of the Point Elizabeth scenic bush walk. This is a great bush walk mainly sheltered with good native bush cover. The main bedroom has great sea views and an ensuite. Plenty of parking space is available behind the house.

Riverstone House

Riverstone is situated on a semi rural lifestyle block on the banks of the Taramakau River, halfway between Greymouth and Hokitika, with a stunning view of the river and historic rail bridge. You would be the only guests staying on the property and will have your own private entrance, lounge/dining area, kitchen, bedroom, bathroom, laundry and outdoor area. We live in a completely separate area of the house and there are no shared spaces.

I cannot recommend this stay more highly. The house is simply beautiful . Inside the beds are luxurious and the decor is a gorgeous example of high end kiwiana home crafts . It is warm on cold evenings but opens to expansive decks in the day . It has everything you could want. The position is second to none. Only a 5 min drive to Hokitika but you feel removed from everyone. A short 2 min walk to a desolate driftwood beach and the best stargazing at night . We loved it .

Mark was very friendly and informative, we very much enjoyed meeting and chatting with him when we arrived, and wished we'd had more time to chat. The property was very easy to find and looked just like the photos portrayed. They have a small store and cafe in front and there is a restaurant just a block or so down the street. While somewhat utilitarian, our unit had everything we needed for our stay to be comfortable and we were very satisfied. We appreciated the ability to cook our own breakfast, as we had to leave early that morning. The room actually sleeps 8, but we only needed the queen bed, which was very comfortable. There was a large fan and a portable heater to make sure guests are comfortable in any weather. We would definitely consider staying here again.

An absolute gem of a location. Beautiful setting, spacious, wonderfully appointed and very welcoming. The communication with Rachel was great, directions/entry easy and straightforward… great provisions for a light breakfast - fresh eggs from the chickens running around the huge yard over looking the river… highly recommend this slice of kiwi countryside…
