Family-friendly vacation rentals in Cheat River

We couldn’t have picked a better location to spend our 1 year wedding anniversary. We spent a beautiful Saturday at Blackwater Falls and exploring any trace of the Blackwater 100 (historic offroad race) around town. Sunday was raining and we spent the entire day at the cabin having the most peaceful day watching the clouds roll through.

Really nice place to stay in Thomas / Davis WVA. Clean and well stocked cabin. Comfortable and centrally located for all the outdoor activities. This cabin would be easy to access in the snow. It’s basically right off the main road and flat.

Great place on the water! Great location, close enough to town for activities, far enough to be peaceful and private. Great amenities and plenty of space. The hot tub was a great place to unwind on a cool day with a great view.

This was the perfect spot for a honeymoon. The cabin was gorgeous and had some Christmas decor which was very festive. I’d recommend to anyone and would love to come back.

Location was absolutely perfect for us. Close enough to everything, but with a private feel. House felt bigger than the pictures, which was a pleasant surprise! Loved having the basement floor for our boys to have their own sense of privacy as well. Would come back again 100%!

This was our second time staying here, and we loved it again! The house is in the perfect location and had everything we needed for a great holiday getaway. We felt very comfortable in this cozy home. Maureen is a very kind and responsive host.

No words can say how wonderful Shane and Deanna's hospitality was. We had a large group that we were getting together for annual Father's Day weekend camping trip and at the last minute our accommodations fell through and we were scrambling to find somewhere that could host 20 people. the hosts at Cole's Green Acres were fantastic, very accommodating, and just overall an absolute delight. We were all super happy with the setup, especially since it rained tremendous amounts during the weekend we stayed. In fact, Shane even stated that this is the worst rain storms they've had in years! But we made it through and it was honestly so much fun hanging out underneath the Pavilion during the rain storms, watching the children run around playing in the rain, and then calming down at the fire pit just listening to music. To say that we loved our experience and appreciated the hospitality that Shane and Deanna provided would be an understatement. The amenities were more than listed! <3 you guys!

An absolutely cute cabin with a massive back yard. The cabin was simple but there was a ton of attention to detail when it came to the decorations and amenities and general vibe. Our dog LOOOOOVED the massive fenced-in back yard. 10/10 would stay again.

Chalet was a great getaway spot for a few days for an annual fishing trip. Every detail was perfect for us, had everything you could think of and thoroughly thought through the details to make sure you had all amenities needed. Grounds were also beautiful. People mention trains in their reviews but honestly didn’t mind it one bit, if you wanted they even had ear plugs in each room. This listing was a great experience, everything we needed! The place was beautiful and everything was set up just fine. We had no worries. Highly recommended!

Great stay at Stephen’s. He advised us not to use our non 4WD vehicle to get up to the site but we tried anyway because we arrived after dark. He told us he could help get our car unstuck and patiently did so. It was a serene place and we tried some of his distillery items, which were tasteful and great (no hangover!!). Friendly and loving cat who follows him around as well.

Great place in a cute little town. Close to state parks and wonderful outdoor adventures! Dog friendly and very clean. Lots of extra space with a well stocked kitchen for eating in and enjoying the family.

Dan’s place was well kept! A good option for camping with some amenities. Bathrooms were very clean. We just happened to visiting on a very cold weekend and thought there would be more heating options. There is a little propane space heater that helped and the warm water bottles to put under the covers helps on a cold night as well.

Blue moon rising was nothing short of amazing. I couldn’t recommend it enough. It was peaceful and beautiful. Exactly what we were looking for!

Friends and family members rented several cabins at Black Bear for a wonderful weekend! Joan’s description warns that AWD is needed at this time of year—and it is. 🤪. Maintenance at Black Bear was extremely responsive when one of our group had difficulty getting out of the resort due to snow/ice. Nice to have the covered back porch to take off snowy wet clothes/boots.

Everything was phenomenal. Plenty of space to maneuver and have gatherings with loved ones.

My wife and I needed a trip away from the city for the long holiday weekend where we could enjoy some good activity in peaceful surroundings with our dog. This cozy pedestal cabin in Black Bear Resort was just what we were looking for. Check in was easy by picking up the keys at the resort lodge. The place had everything we needed to a cook a couple nights for ourselves, including the gas grill on the deck. The wall-mounted 4K flatscreen TV with Roku let us relax after three active days out and about in Canaan Valley while we listened to the thunderstorms roll over the mountains each evening. This would certainly be a fine place for folks (especially with kids -- there were two sets of bunk beds in the loft) to use a base for their WV adventures any time of year!

Elizabeth’s condo was excellent - cleanly, organized & in a wonderful location. Would definitely recommend.

Loved staying at Lazy Bear Lodge. Beautiful home with privacy on big property. Hosts were super responsive and gave great local recommendations. Very accessible to hiking and white water rafting.

The house had so much to do which was fantastic for our kids. They were happy to spend the whole day being entertained by the arcade, pool, and other amenities. Thanks!

We booked James’s place at the last minute, and we chose it for the location rather than the accommodation. However, when we arrived we had a wonderful surprise, because it was much nicer than the photos had let us to believe. It was spacious and comfortable, with a good-sized kitchen and a lovely sitting area. The kids loved having the playground outside, and it was amazing to soak in the hot tub surrounded by snow, watching the stars come out. We also enjoyed using the indoor swimming pool and games room, and visiting the ponies at the riding centre. The kids sledded down the hill outside and we also went sledding at Blackwater Falls, which was fantastic. The waterfall looked so beautiful with all the icicles. We didn’t have time to try Timberline, but the skiing at Canaan Valley was reasonably priced and great fun. We also had a few nice meals in Davis and Thomas, and a beautiful walk to Douglas falls. Overall, it was a fabulous stay and we will definitely come again if we can…
