Wonderful stay in the middle of the mountains. Comfortable and cozy home, great for getting away from the business of everyday life

From the moment we walked into the house, we were in love. The house is set in a private, wooded cul-de-sac and easy to find with the directions provided. The inside is open and spacious but still somehow cozy. The kitchen had everything we needed and all of the best quality. The town of Davis is a short drive away with some delicious little places to check out for meals. We also stopped by Blackwater Falls State Park, just a few minutes past the downtown area. Would definitely recommend this gem if you are planning a stay in the area!

The home has lots of character and charming details. We enjoyed our time and loved cooking together. The living space is open, inviting, and relaxing. It was a great family atmosphere. The tree swing and fire pit were fun. The shower being on the first floor separate from the bedrooms upstairs was unexpected but didn't cause any problems for our group. Also, whoever sleeps in the tree house room should know they'll need to descend a ladder to use the bathroom. This house is super great and the mountains surrounding are breathtaking. We would definately stay again.

Excellent accommodations. We were 5 adults, 2 toddlers, an infant and two dogs and there was plenty of room for everyone. The kids enjoyed the spacious first floor for their magna-tile and lego projects and the adults were happy at the large dining table. The outdoors were quiet, spacious and plenty of opportunities for the kids to run around. We used this location as a central point for the high peaks hike in MD and WV, an excellent location. Also visited Blackwater Falls and Seneca Rocks - amazing natural wonders. Would definitely rent again if in the area.

This house was a great basecamp for our two families. We had plenty of room for the 3 kids and all of our (5 adults) biking gear. A fantastic mud room made it easy to keep the house clean and organized. The kitchen was roomy enough for us too.

Before arriving Josh gave clear instructions on entering and when we got there the house was just perfect. Nice bathroom on the first floor and the living room is nice that goes opens up to the nice deck. The beds are very comfortable and clean. This place is very close to Canaan valley resort and black water falls park. We were there for a wedding in the area. But we could have been able to do so much because it’s all very close. Thank you Josh for making this a very nice experience.

This was a quiet, secluded, serene stay in a place that is comfortable and clean. Todd was attentive and reachable and very friendly. We appreciate that we were able to have our dogs accompany us on our visit!!

Friends and family members rented several cabins at Black Bear for a wonderful weekend! Joan’s description warns that AWD is needed at this time of year—and it is. 🤪. Maintenance at Black Bear was extremely responsive when one of our group had difficulty getting out of the resort due to snow/ice. Nice to have the covered back porch to take off snowy wet clothes/boots.

Kimberly really has tried to think of everything for this little cottage. The kitchen is well stocked (loved the little magnetic spice containers on the fridge). She’s set up a small but functional coffee bar. Small French press included! Firewood was provided and was a most welcome treat to have a wood burning fire in the chilly evenings The little resort that the cabin is in is well maintained and staff is friendly and helpful. Beds are comfortable and there’s plenty of hot water! The spa tub was such a bonus after a long day of traveling and hiking! We enjoyed the local restaurants but particularly enjoyed the Purple Fiddle and Wicked Wilderness Pub. Kimberly and Jay have clearly worked hard to make this cabin a lovely guest house.

My wife and I needed a trip away from the city for the long holiday weekend where we could enjoy some good activity in peaceful surroundings with our dog. This cozy pedestal cabin in Black Bear Resort was just what we were looking for. Check in was easy by picking up the keys at the resort lodge. The place had everything we needed to a cook a couple nights for ourselves, including the gas grill on the deck. The wall-mounted 4K flatscreen TV with Roku let us relax after three active days out and about in Canaan Valley while we listened to the thunderstorms roll over the mountains each evening. This would certainly be a fine place for folks (especially with kids -- there were two sets of bunk beds in the loft) to use a base for their WV adventures any time of year!

Great place super close to Timberline, Canaan Valley and Whitegrass. Home is clean and comfortable, with a well appointed kitchen and lots of games and entertainment for bad weather.

Staying at Megan and Abby’s cabin was such an amazing experience. The place was impeccably clean and looked exactly as the pictures described it. Megan responded quickly and kindly when I asked about a door that needed to be unlocked. The Bear Lair Cabin stay will live my best memories.

The Verde Mountain Cabin is a cozy, comfortable home that is close to Thomas, Davis, and all of the great outdoor activities in the Canaan Valley. It was a great place to stay to explore the trails and towns in the area, and the resort area that surrounds the cabin is quiet and peaceful with nice views. Brooke and the Platinum Pineapple Group are also very responsive and helpful.

Great cabin. Perfect for the 2 of us and our small pup. We have stayed at many cabins at Black Bear, and this is one of the best. The view is definitely the best view. The cabin has many upgrades and the kitchen is well stocked. We cooked several meals and we had everything we needed. Being next to the horse farm is super cool. The horses were always right next to the cabin in their field and it was just amazing to be that close to them. The AC worked great. Bring bottled water or use the pitcher (brita style) provided in the fridge. It was quiet and the cabin only has a neighbor on 1 side. Good communication with Cameron. The spa was great after a day of hiking. The mattress in the main bedroom is firm. Great Stay!

The cabin was perfect and the views stunning. It was a bit annoying having to go to a different location to get the house code versus just being messaged the code upon checkin day. Otherwise, the house was clean and cozy.

Lovely Memorial Day weekend, was super quiet, and right where we wanted to be for some great hiking. WiFi and TV worked great. Kitchen was a major plus with a great layout and plenty of space (Keurig and drip coffee maker for any who might be wondering). Bed was comfy and keyless entry is always a plus. Lura was quick to respond to any questions we had. Overall, we enjoyed our stay here and are likely to return.

Second time staying in this cabin. So beautiful and cozy! Great place to spend time with family and nature! Highly recommend!

Our stay at Catherine and Jake’s place was ideal for a group trip to the Canaan Valley area. The sleeping spaces were cozy and living room/dining room was spacious for our group of 7. We loved listening to the creek behind us and the easy access to pick up the Allegheny Trail, and quick drive to Heart of the Highlands area, as well as picking up the western side of Dolly Sods. The space was clean and we loved the little details throughout!

We were two old friends meeting up for a 4-night girl's getaway--William's place was perfect. We loved cooking our meals together and eating on the back deck with the beautiful view into the wildlife refuge. We were there during a major heat wave and with the cross-ventilation available in both bedrooms, we were easily able to keep the place cool and comfortable without using the two available ACs. It was a perfect jumping-off point for daytime adventures--easy access to so much great nature! Don't miss a hike in the wildlife refuge itself--the wetlands are spectacular. William was very responsive and helpful. When we come back to the area, we will happily stay here again.

We loved staying at this cabin! The hosts were super responsive and super friendly. The property is beautiful and we enjoyed walking around in the snow. The cabin was super cozy and clean, we loved the wall decorations and art. The kitchen was great and had nearly everything we needed. There is no regular oven but the large toaster oven worked perfectly for a small tart. Would definitely stay here again!

Great spot, right on the rail trail perhaps a quarter mile from Thomas. The place (and a number of other small homes) was brand new and in mint condition. It was well stocked and extremely comfortable. A nice couch and TV, beds were firm and also brand new! Great little kitchen. We'll definitely go back.

Such a beautiful cabin! We were looking for a peaceful spot for a relaxing getaway for our anniversary and "The Barracks" checked off all of the boxes. Sherry was very helpful with recommendations and was always quick to respond. She is the most thoughtful host and thanks to her we enjoyed farm fresh eggs for our breakfast!! Very clean and well stocked. Enjoyed our breakfast on the porch each morning watching the deer. Highly recommend Sherry's place!
