Cottage vacation rentals in Stonethwaite

We stayed at Simon and Belinda's place for a week and it was exactly what we needed. Fantastic location for walks and food. The Wainwright's Inn is only 0.2 miles away. Great food and local ales on your doorstep. The cottage is cosy, the kitchen is well equipped and the information provided was very thorough and useful. There are some books in the house they have prepared to show various walks and local recommendations. We did some of these walks and our 5 year old enjoyed every second! We took advantage of the leisure facilities at The Langdale. This was a great addition to the cottage! Really recommend if you want a place near to town locations, walks and local pubs/cafés/restaurants.

What a wonderful place for a peaceful break away. The house was so comfortable with all the amenities needed. The hot tub was a lovely addition too! My son, who loves wildlife photography, absolutely adored the river. He spent every possible moment down there photographing Kingfishers! I would definitely recommend to anyone who loves birds and wildlife.

Beautiful location for a lovely farm stay, great views from the hot tub! Loved being able to watch the cows and sheep. Claire was lovely and was ready to help at any moment despite us arriving so late at night! Highly recommend and will definitely be coming back!

We had such a lovely long weekend with our grown up children. The cottage was so relaxing . Lovely private grounds. Short walk to two private beaches . We really enjoyed having the optional hot tub and sauna . We played games in the garden , visited some lovely walks. A very chilled place. Ruth and Mark are great hosts. Thank you.

We arrived on the Friday for a 3 night stay. The Barn is in a beautiful place inside and out. The Hot Tub was lovely on an evening and the patio fire was great to sit around for drinks early evening watching the Sun go down. Casterton village is only a couple of miles from Kirkby Lonsdale. The village its self had a gorgeous pub 7 mins walk from the Barn which had a great range of food and served Sourdough pizza on Sunday evening after 1700hrs with a lovely warm atmosphere and open fires. There is a great taxi service and some fabulous restaurants near to the Barn. The Black Bull and the Highwayman were fabulous. (We did go to Number 9 also and it was not somewhere I could recommend, service and food really poor.) Patrick and Anika were great responsive hosts and this is a do not miss property, that offers every you need for a fabulous stay. Our little group loved it. Thank you Karen, Denise and Naomi

We have just returned from a few nights away staying at this little piece of paradise. If you’re after a tranquil, relaxing holiday then this is the place to stay. From the house itself, to the spectacular views , the amazing pool house and the lovely, friendly neighbours, this place ticks all the boxes and more. Highly recommend visiting The Queens Arms for a meal (or just a cheeky drink), the staff are so friendly and just made our time away extra special. Malham is only a 20 min (ish) drive away and is stunning (a must see). The only thing I would advise is to make sure you take plenty of supplies (or do an online shop for delivery as we did) as the local shop is a 20min drive away. Thankyou again David, we will definitely be back.

Hermitage cottage was in a beautiful situation right on the river Lune. The cottage was clean and tidy. We enjoyed the hot tub, the barbecue and the outdoor seating. We were extremely fortunate with the weather and really enjoyed our stay. Walks around the estate were lovely. It is a lovely base to explore the Forest of Bowland and surrounding areas.

We arrived at Hylands for our stay at La’al cottage. It was exactly as you can see in the pictures a true reflection. The grounds are absolutely stunning private and we enjoyed a fire pit which was spectacular listening to birds and owls. Cottage is cosy and welcoming and we had a great stay thank you Emma and Craig. We loved it and will be back

Great Stay, will book again

We had a fantastic stay at this lovely cottage on Wastwater. The setting is stunning — right on the lake and surrounded by beautiful walking routes, perfect for exploring with our 18-month-old and dog. The cottage is tucked away on a peaceful farm with a great outdoor seating area to enjoy the views. It’s quite remote, with the nearest proper shop about 30 minutes away, but the nearby campsite shop (just half a mile down the road) had the essentials we needed. Other than that, everything was perfect. A truly relaxing break in a beautiful location — we’d definitely recommend it!

Wonderful stay in Staveley. The cottage was perfect and very well looked after and everything you need. The beds were so comfortable we didn’t want to get up! Perfect location for exploring the Lake District with a bus stop 1 minute walk from the cottage and bus service was very reliable. Very peaceful and great garden to relax in after a day of exploring. Would definitely recommend a stay here if you’re looking for a base in the Lake District.

The cottage was exactly what was listed and what we were looking for. The Host was always responsive and friendly with many helpful details. The cottage is cosy and in beautiful surroundings with friendly neighbours. It also is well equipped for short or long stays. We will definitely recommend and hopefully come back soon! Thank you

We had a wonderful stay at Lisa’s - four adults, two under one year olds and a dog! The bedrooms have plenty of room for travel cots and were clean, comfortable and cosy. The garden is stunning and sitting in the little garden hut looking over the mountains around was a great way to start the day. The kitchen is well equipped and in great condition. The shower is really good and Lisa provides basic bathroom items incase you forget any essentials which is a lovely touch. The living space is stunning - plenty of space for the babies to roll around on the floor whilst being contained! The views from the windows are gorgeous. Lisa was very responsive during our stay when we had a couple of queries. Highly recommend!

I have no hesitation in recommending. The property is exactly as advertised and we loved the way the space has been designed and utilised. The bed was really comfortable. We had a long journey to Mosser and were delighted with the beautiful outside area where our dog could run around. Communication with Hazel and directions were all excellent. We had a great stay. Zoe was great in communicating and the property is indeed a rare find. The garden was unique and our Labrador loved it.

A lovely Lakelands cottage, perfect for our family of 4. We enjoyed using the little garden, and it was easy to walk into Coniston and into the surrounding area. Other lovely walks a short drive away. The cottage was really comfortable, well equipped kitchen, lots of hot water, lovely fireplace. We'd definitely stay again

Michael's place was a perfect base for our 5 days in the Lakes. The house was really well set up with a fully equipped kitchen, balcony with great views, wood burner and TV with netflix. The bed was super comfy although as others have noted there are low ceilings downstairs (where bedrooms and bathroom are) so not ideal if you're tall. I'm 6ft and I could just get away without ducking when walking around, however the shower was awkward to use and I had to contort myself to avoid bumping my head. That's a minor issue though as otherwise the place was great. The location is also very convenient for accessing lots of lovely parts of the Lakes - we didn't need to use the car for 2 of the days, spending one on Ullswater and Aire Force waterfalls, and another climbing Helvellyn, both walkable from the house.

Our stay was wonderful and beyond expectations. The house itself was squeaky clean, comfortable and very beautiful. We really appreciated the spacious and well-equipped kitchen as we didn’t eat out much. Martin’s arrival instructions were very clear and helpful. The hamper of local goods was a lovely surprise! The neighbourhood was quiet and peaceful and the location was great. Just 15-min walk to Nichol End Marine for water sports and walkable distance to Keswick town centre. Would love to come again!

We had a wonderful stay at The Place. The location is breathtaking, and the house itself is perfect - every detail is beautiful and well thought-out, and Lucy had provided anything one could think of. Everything was of very high quality, from the bed linen and towels to the kitchen equipment. We were all adults, but if you have children, there are lots of toys, games, and activities, so that even on rainy days, there is plenty to do. Great walks nearby, perfect both for those who like hills and those who prefer flatter ground - Buttermere and Crummock are wonderful low ground walks, and of course the walk though Holme Woods to the Kirkstile is lovely. Thank you so much for a wonderful stay. The house was perfect for our group, had everything you need and of course waking up to the beautiful views everyday was amazing. Great location for hiking, seeing the surrounding towns the lakes has to offer and also great local pubs within walking distance. Jonny and his family was so accomodating and welcoming and also kept us up to date with the weather and what hikes would be good to do. We will definitely be back and would 100% recommend this beautiful property. It really is a home away from home.

Beautiful cottage in a fab location. Great local pub with excellent chips, and easy to drive/walk to local attractions and walks. The cottage was charming, and very nicely decorated. We spent ages sitting in the lovely warm conservatory which was very welcome as the weather was very changeable. The bed was very comfortable and linen smelled lovely. Very quiet location and our little dog loved watching the birds in the garden.

First holiday in the Lake District and it was great! The cottage was brilliant, just right for us, clean and tidy, 4 poster bed was impressive and not forgetting the hot tub which was excellent after a day's walking. Hazel and Steve were very helpful on recommended walks, we didn't use the car since all the walks in the local area were fantastic. We walked for 5 days, weather was great, one of the best hoildays we have had, so peaceful, freindly people whereever we went to, on the 6th day we rested....the feet deserved a break!
