  • Brilliant weekend! Would definitely stay again, highly recommend

    Arianna2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • We stayed here over one weekend (8 adults and 3 kids) and had a great time. The house was spotless and extremely well equipped. We spent most of the weekend actually in the house and gardens, the games and pool table keeping the adults occupied, the kids were happy running around and playing hide and seek. We were delayed in getting there but that was no problem and communication was great throughout. It's a beautiful house and my wife loved the master bedroom with the four-poster bed and stunning windows overlooking the garden and woods behind the house. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend staying here and we've already been talking about staying here as a family again.

Maddies Cabin is set in the garden of a traditional granite house, called Benachie. The house maintains much of its original character. We are positioned near the centre of Alford, just off the main street. Private off-street parking is available in the driveway. Pets are welcome, however we do ask that you arrange with us prior to booking. We have two friendly dogs that share the garden.
The cabin is comprised of a double bed, seating area, ample storage space, and an en-suite shower room. Fresh linen and towels are provided. It is also well insulated and double glazed with electric heating throughout. Tea and coffee making facilities are also available. The cabin looks out over our back garden - it is lovely waking up to the sound of nature outside in this peaceful area. Please note, there are two steps up to the cabin.
Alford is a friendly village, situated within easy driving distance of a range of local attractions, Within the village itself is the Grampian Transport Museum and Alford Heritage Centre, while a short five minute walk will take you to Haughton Country Park for a stroll through woods and along the River Don. A range of other attractions are also available within travelling distance, including castles (e.g. Craigievar and Kildrummy), walks (e.g. Bennachie, Pitfichie Forest), and a range of whisky distilleries.

New on Airbnb, The Wee Hus. This delightful scandi style studio boasts uninterrupted double aspect views across rolling countryside and is situated close to The Gordon Way. The accommodation is furnished to a high standard and would serve as an ideal rural retreat for rest and relaxation, or an excellent jumping off point for exploring the area. The studio is connected internally to a well- appointed double garage offering ideal storage for luggage, bicycles, fishing tackle, canoes etc
The accommodation is approached by a single track road with passing places and there is a large gated parking area in front. The studio with its own entrance (with key safe) is situated adjacent to our main property which is set in an acre of mixed garden and includes a small meadow and mature trees. The studio has central heating and is served by a combi boiler. It also boasts a wood burning stove for chillier weather and logs for this are provided. Guests are welcome to explore our large garden and use the garden furniture. Our Gas BBQ and bicycles can be used if desired at the guests’ own risk. The village of Alford is approximately three miles away where you can pay a visit (in season) to the renowned Transport Museum and the Heritage Museum. The Dry Ski Slope and Houghton Country Park which borders the River Don are open all year round. There are also a number of small shops, eating places, a post office and a well- stocked supermarket. There is a regular although limited bus service to and from Alford village to Aberdeen and various outlying places. In the area, there are many outdoor pursuits in which to take part. These include activities such as golf, exploring forest and cycling trails, hill climbing iconic landmarks such as Bennachie and its vitrified fort, river fishing and clay pigeon shooting etc . The renowned Castle trail (check first for seasonal opening times) includes gems such as Craigievar Castle (6 miles ) Leith Hall (11 miles) Castle Fraser (15 miles) Crathes Castle (22 miles), Drum Castle (24 miles) and Fyvie Castle (25 miles). All are set in their own beautiful grounds with a range of sign posted walks which are generally open all year round. A slightly longer journey takes you through the remote and beautiful Cabrach area to the world famous whisky distilleries such as Glenfiddach (28 miles) and Macallan (34 miles) where you can enjoy a tour and a spot of lunch (again, check visiting times before setting out). In winter, depending on the weather, skiing/snowboarding takes place at The Lecht (29 miles). Whatever the time of year, after a busy day of activities, make a welcome return to the Wee Hus to unwind and rest.
See "read about more about the space" above or contact us with any questions.
  • What an amazing place to stay! We had a wonderful time in a true home from home. It has everything you need as well as some lovely extra touches. Anne and Graham were delightful hosts!

    Lorna2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • We enjoyed our stay very much, the Wee House was warm, clean, quiet, had good facilities, some nice free food :) and was nicely decorated with interesting art work. The hosts were very welcoming and it was a good touch to have the log stove going when we arrived. The house is well located for our walking trip in the Corren Hills, which was one of the reasons I picked it, you can walk from the house into the hills without having to drive further, we would like to go back and do further hill walking and mountain or road biking. There are lots of maps provided in the house and the hosts have a good knowledge of the local area when in comes to history and doing trips in the hills etc. Thanks again to Graham for picking us up after our walk on Sunday, that was a bonus and saved us walking on the road a bit. Definitely recommended.

    David2020-01-06T00:00:00Z
  • The wee house is beautiful, great location in a lovely part of the world. Anne has obviously put a lot of time and love into the wee house which is full of lovely thoughtful touches - including some breakfast bits to get you going, hot water bottles and DVDs. Perfect hosts, very welcoming. Definitely recommend, 5 star and would come again

    Matthew2019-12-15T00:00:00Z
  • “Amazing house and hospitality. “ I don't know where to start in expressing how much I enjoyed my stay at The Wee Hus. I love it from the minute I saw it – bright, cosy, spotlessly clean and airy studio with Scandinavian design offering functionality without sacrificing beauty and comfort. Anne and Graham have put a lot of love into decorating the studio and it really shows. They are incredible hosts and made me feel like family from the moment I arrived! The treats on arrival were a lovely touch and were much appreciated. The Wee Hus is well appointed in a location offering peace and tranquility, a short distance to Alford, Huntley, Leith Hall Garden & Estate, Craigievar Castle, Cothiemuir and Old Keig stone circles, Dunnideer Castle and the picturesque village of Insch . Fantastic base to explore Aberdeenshire and Moray. I would stayed forever if I could as Anne and Graham are very inspiring and there’s so much to explore. Thank you so much for the warm welcome & use of this lovely property ;-).

    Lydia2019-09-30T00:00:00Z
  • Anne and Graham were the most welcoming, kind and thoughtful hosts. The house was above and beyond our expectations, the fireplace lovely, and we had our privacy. From the first minute we felt at home, cozy and full vacation mode. We had everything we needed to prepare a meal and enjoyed the beautiful nature of the Muir of Dinnet natural reserve nearby.

    Inna2019-09-23T00:00:00Z
  • The Wee Hus is magnificent and we can't recommend it in glowing enough terms. Really modern, tastefully decorated, a fantastic location for anyone who wants a lovely weekend in beautiful countryside. Anne and Graham were lovely hosts - very helpful but also discrete, and they picked us up from the bus in Alford which was very kind. Anne also left a number of delicious snacks and local jam and honey for us upon arrival which was delicious and much appreciated. The Hus contains everything you need, modern amenities, kitchen facilities, a great shower. We very much hope to come back in the future!

    Joe2019-09-15T00:00:00Z
  • Our stay at Anne’s wee hus was one of our best stops of our trip to Scotland. The accommodation is just perfect: cozy, clean, beautifully decorated and with everything you need. But even more impressive were Anne and Graham: lovely people - above all very helpful. Their hospitality is one of a kind. We hope to see them again!

    Safiye2019-09-13T00:00:00Z
  • Well, what a fantastic find, the Wee Hus was! I would encourage everyone to stay there. Anne is a wonderful hostess and her husband Graham is charming too. The quality of the interior is second to none and you will find Anne leaves you some lovely treats to start you off. The area is remote but near a lovely wee town, Alford, where you can shop and eat. Highly recommended and five stars all the way......

The accommodation is part of our family home but completely self contained. You have your own entrance, kitchen, sitting room and shower room. We are situated in a beautiful quiet country location but still only a 10 to 20 minute drive to nearest towns. There are mountain bike trails close by and plenty of lovely walks accessible from the house.
We love the peace and quiet here at Westside Steading where we can walk from the house and let the dog off for a good run in the forest nearby. This is also an access point for the miles of mountain bike trails in the area. However, Aberdeen city is still only 30 minutes away where there is a wide selection shops and restaurants, cinema, theatre and sporting activities. Closer to home are Alford and Kemnay providing small supermarkets for most of your needs. Inverurie a bigger town is 20 minutes away and has several supermarkets, shops, cafes and restaurants. There are swimming pools at Alford and Inverurie. In the Winter there is skiing at the Lecht 50 minutes away and Glenshee at 1 and 1/2 hours. Aberdeenshire is famous for its castle trail and distilleries and we are ideally located for visiting many of them. Other popular activities in the area are golf, fishing and hill walking.
The Steading is situated in a rural setting and within easy reach of miles of mountain bike trails and hill walking.
  • Really lovely home. They had everything we needed and were really easy to communicate with, responding really quickly to any queries we had. We found it very peaceful and refreshing. Lovely place to spend our first anniversary! :)

  • A charming cottage in the remote location. We loved the clean, cosy rooms, basic but very pleasant kitchen with large table, a nice selection of games and books there. Lovely place for walks - rolling hills, sheep and cows.

  • Charming and spotlessly clean apartment annexed to Max and Jenny's lovely barn conversion home. This place is really spacious and comfortably fit our family of four (toddler and newborn). The rural location is stunning, yet still only a few miles away from the nearest towns for cafes and restaurants. We were there for a wedding close-by and Max and Jenny couldn't have been more accommodating, friendly or helpful. The place is well set-up for children with an incredible games cupboard and DVD players. Kitchen was very helpfully stocked for simple meals and milk tea and jam/bread on arrival was much appreciated! All in all, a lovely stay. Would certainly recommend.

    Michael2019-09-02T00:00:00Z
  • Absolutely little gem of a place and located near but not too close to lots of little local scenic routes. We used this place as a getaway from the hustle and bustle of normal life. We loved our stay and will be more than happy to return and visit more of Aberdeenshire. Jenny & Max were lovely hosts and helped out with all our needs. Clean & Modern barn converted cottage.

    Sonia2019-09-27T00:00:00Z
  • My husband and I were in Aberdeenshire to check out the stone circles and Pictish stones in the area. May’s cottage was a perfect home base. It has everything needed for a comfortable stay and extra touches like a beautiful garden, fresh cut flowers and breakfast staples. It also has wonderful sun room, where we sat every morning and evening, taking in the lovely scenery. It was conveniently close to Alford, which had a couple grocery stores and a really good fish and chip shop. May met us upon arrival and gave us a tour. She even had a hand-drawn map of some local ancient sites for us. We gladly recommend her place and were sad to leave!

    Julie2019-09-17T00:00:00Z
  • May’s place is very beautiful and in a lovely location. Loved the sunroom. It had gorgeous views and was our favorite place to be. One of our favorite stays of our trip. Would highly recommend!

Welcome to Moss-side Country Cottage Retreat I lovingly renovated the entire cottage. It is modern, clean, quiet and cozy with an extremely well-equipped kitchen, perfect for groups who want an open-plan space to socialise. Set in an idyllic spot in the picturesque Aberdeenshire. Immersed in nature, fresh air, wildlife, history, and dramatic scenery - with mountains, lochs, forests, and castles - it's the perfect retreat setting for groups.
Tranquil setting with glorious views, perfect for a retreat to get away from it all. The accommodation is modern, light, spacious and comfortable, with large windows to take in the stunning views of the Corienne Hills. Large open plan lounge and kitchen, perfect for groups or families. Kids especially love the sheep and cows in the field directly behind the house which often come up to say hello! The house is set up for guests for exclusive and private use. The house has all the mod cons and a very well equipped kitchen with everything that you could need if you love to cook! There are incredible walks close by on the Bennachie mountains with spectacular views. Tea, coffee & sugar is available. Kitchen and pantry staples such as oils, salt/pepper, sauces and spices. Bathrooms have shower gel and shampoo/conditioner supplied. A HUGE flat-screen Sky TV, Netflix are available. Great for keeping the kids entertained or a cosy movie night in after a day our in the local countryside. Only 4 miles / 5 mins from Alford Village with all you'll need for supermarkets, cafes, pub, and take aways 20 minutes from Aberdeen Airport 30 minutes from Aberdeen City Centre There is a gas BBQ for summer and garden furniture. If it is winter, please note the BBQ is kept in the garage so please ask for access. You will need to move the BBQ outside, clean and then return to the garage after use. Note: The BBQ is heavy and you move the BBQ at your own risk. The BBQ must not be used inside the garage. Finally, I no longer provide a hairdryer at the property as I have purchased 6 hairdryers as they continue to go missing...please bring your own.
I have uninterrupted views of the Scottish countryside. The cows or sheep in the paddock behind the house often come up to the stone wall to say hello, which kids love!

There were shower products in each bathroom which was great in case you had forgotten to take with you (which I did!) and we also had a lovely bottle of red wine & chocolates waiting for us on arrival, such a fab touch. We stayed here to celebrate an early Christmas Day with family & it was the perfect setting. Highly recommend this accommodation for anyone looking for a weekend away. The Cornmill is a beautifully restored old Corn Mill with original wheel. The inside of the house is lovely and light with huge windows. Decorated with some lovely pieces and lots of artwork by the owner of the Cornmill (Jane Copus). We welcome holiday makers, people up for work and we also welcome pets too.
Beautifully restored old Cornmill, has original wheel. House is decorated with lovely artwork and unique pieces. Set in the lovely village of Auchleven it is surrounded by farm land and a short drive to Bennachie.
The village of Auchleven is a quiet peaceful village. We have approx less than 100 houses. The village is surrounded by beautiful scenery, with Bennachie making up some of that scenery. We have an array of fields with various farm animals. The Gadie is at the bottom of the village and is a great place to walk and also has a tyre swing over the river. Children can enjoy the park which has lots of equipment for children to play on and a massive football pitch for playing football or other sports. The New Moon pub in the village is open Thursday - Sunday and does lunch/evening meals and has WiFi
  • We had a beautiful stay at the Cornmill - a stylishly decorated, cosy and comfortable home with great access to the Highlands. We happily spent several days soaking up the atmosphere of the house which is full of art and bathed in natural light. Claire was super attentive, and we’d definitely return again.

Brainley croft is a highland haven set amongst the rolling Aberdeenshire hills in the vale of Alford. Guests will enjoy a granite croft that has been tastefully renovated offering the choice of an open fire or wood burning stove warmly inviting you to relax and take time out.
Accommodation comprises of two double upstairs bedrooms, bathroom, private open plan granite kitchen with open fire and traditional Aga. Guests also have a private sitting room with wood burning stove. This room has a bed settee which can be used as an additional double bed for family’s with extra children. Unfortunately the house is not really suitable for groups of more than four adults with children. The house is divided in two, we live in one wing and the other wing, with its own private entrance, is dedicated to guests. The Croft house offers a quiet getaway close to Aberdeenshire attractions, Royal Deeside and the Cairngorm National Park. It has an extensive garden with superb views which guests are welcome to use. Dogs and bikes are very welcome. The Croft has been fully renovated with new kitchen and appliances, the photos on the site give a flavour of the Croft’s character.
Located next to royal deeside and the Cairngorm national park we are in the ideal location to explore Aberdeenshire. We are an ideal first stop for the NC500 and NE250 routes. As keen motorcyclists we welcome bikers, drivers and cyclists!
  • Wow! We can’t recommend this place highly enough. This place is everything you’d want and more for a wee get away. Myself and my boyfriends family had a lovely few days here across new year. We all felt relaxed as soon as we arrived. We were shown around/made to feel at home by the hosts. Nothing was too much problem and they had clearly thought of lots of little touches to make the perfect stay. Everything was spotless. It is only a few minuets from the high street of Alford but it feels like are so far out in the country side with absolutely stunning views! The hot tub was a personal highlight, just bliss. Thank you so much to the hosts and we shall be back!

  • A lovely cottage. Very relaxing and in beautiful surroundings. The little extras left were very thoughtful. The hosts always got back to me very quickly. Our family had a wonderful time staying here and would highly recommend to everyone.

  • Absolutely amazing! Could not fault a thing and the attention to detail is amazing! Kids absolutely loved the garden and cooking on the Aga was a treat! Super friendly, efficient hosts (thank you for the brownies and extras in the fridge!) Would definitely book again!

  • Wonderful place with lots of special touches.

    Helen2019-08-16T00:00:00Z
  • Situated just outside of Alford this is a truly beautiful retreat. Secluded yet with spectacular views of the Aberdeenshire countryside you will not be disappointed with your stay at Brainley Croft. The cottage itself is a stunning and well maintained building which has been kitted out to a very high standard and was immaculately clean. There is plenty living and dining space and with the kitchen fully equipped, possibly better than we have at home! The art work and vignettes have been chosen with care and thought and add to the over all comfort and offer general points to talk about. The spacious garden with chickens, and playhouse for the kids was beautifully kept as well. Mel and John are wonderful hosts and it was a joy to have the opportunity to stay at the Croft, we’d love to visit again when it’s a bit cooler to take advantage of the fire and aga.

Although in a rural location we are just 4 miles from the nearest supermarket and other shops (in Alford) and just 20 miles from the city of Aberdeen and its airport at Dyce. • June herself was not there when we arrived but made sure we got on well. Several tenants while staying in the house which was unknown to us, but turned out to be fine. The location is not very convenient, Alford is not attractive, lively town but if you have a car you from here to visit plenty of interesting things. The room itself was perfect, an unprecedented luxury. The kitchen was fine, we were able to use everywhere. June is a very warm and open hostess.
