This unique and exceptional property is set on fifteen acres of truely stunning grounds comprising of mixed woodland, viewing platforms for abundant wildlife, boat house and boat with private access to one of the most beautiful lakes in Ireland (if required, please inquire). Lough Key with its 32 islands is a gem. All of the bigger islands were inhabited at some stage for at least 2000 years. Abbeys, castles, crannogs and ruins adorn this very special area. Not to mention fishing, horse riding etc.
The cottage itself is spacious, cosy and quaint. It's very comfortable but not luxurious. The grounds and location are superb. Close to Boyle and local shop (10 mins walk).
Very relaxing. Great local music. Friendly locals

  • We had a lovely 3-day stay at Simon's lakeside home. Simon was very welcoming and quick to respond to messages. Lots of land surrounds the house so ideal if you have a dog. The house has so much character and Simon had the log fire burning on our arrival. We hope to visit again soon.

    Aoife2019-12-30T00:00:00Z
  • Simon's space is brilliant for a group or family. Little but cold in winter, but Simon made sure to have the fires lit well in advance if us arriving. Really recommend it.

    Rob2019-12-01T00:00:00Z
  • Great location, simon was able to show us around the lake using his fishing boat at no extra charge. Great location for fishing

  • One of the loveliest air bnbs you will find in the country. The house is one of the comfiest and coziest little colleges that I have ever been to, myself and my friends had a fabulous weekend in Lough Key!

  • Simon's cabin was such a fun experience! My kids especially LOVED the upstairs area. It was hard to leave this cozy cabin. :) We enjoyed watching the swans in Lough Key from our dining table. Highly recommend!

Our cabin is warm and cosy. Enjoy the space, help yourself to veg from the garden, feed the farm animals, collect the eggs and explore all our area has to offer
We are in the heart of the countryside but within walking distance of the town. The cabin is accessed via a raised walkway over the vegetable garden and nestled neatly under mature beech trees. The cabin is on our small farm which you are free to explore, experience and enjoy. The area is a slightly off the beaten track hidden gem. You could use your time here to explore Lough Key Forest Park, the town of Boyle, Boyle Abbey, King House and Drummanone Dolmen. You could visit the majestic Carrowkeel passage tombs and delve into the caves of Keash. Try walking around some of the lesser known lakes and woodlands e.g. Clontykilla woods and cycling a myriad of country lanes. See if you can catch some fish on the nearby Boyle river or Lough Gara. Spend your evenings snuggled in the cabin with some local literature or head to Boyle for something to eat and a few pints. For those wanting very lively nightlife Carrick on Shannon is 12 km away
This is an area with hidden gems waiting to be discovered. We love our interactions with the animals, the peaceful lakes, rivers and hills and our friends and neighbours. A quiet pint in town with a good meal and chat is a simple pleasure. A rich historical tapestry from passage tombs to hidden abbeys to grand mansions continues to stimulate.
  • Right on the farm, also very private! Everything lovely and clean and only a few minutes away from the town, would recommend!

  • John and his family made us feel very welcome in their beautiful pod. He took time to explain all of the local points of interest and made sure we were comfortable. The pod is cosy, well furnished and in a lovely location. Definitely recommend!

  • Don’t let the size fool you, you’ll have EVERYTHING you need at the hideaway! This was the first Airbnb that I personally felt as comfortable as I do at home. Boyle had the best food in Ireland and it was the most affordable as well. If you want a host that has a well planned out selection of things to do, this is where your heart will be!

    Claire2020-02-21T00:00:00Z
  • Spent a nice Valentine's weekeend in this cozy cabin during storm Dennis. Great place, great host, and completely warm! Also, since we didn't have a car the hosts came to pick up and drop us at the train station. Thanks John!

    Zackary2020-02-16T00:00:00Z
  • Really enjoyed the location, the reception and the cabin. I'll recommend the experience to anyone and everyone..

    Gerhard2020-02-09T00:00:00Z
  • John's accommodation loved it. The indications to the place were very precise. The cabin is very cozy and John and his family are very hospitable. Everything was spotless and they even left us some homemade snacks. 100% recommendable.

    Airam2020-02-03T00:00:00Z
  • John was very accommodating and helpful! Great host 👍

    Brendan2020-02-01T00:00:00Z
  • John and his family were marvellous hosts. The check-in time was flexible, they gave us lots of information and local recommendations of bits to do, and they provided nice, thoughtful touches like the scones. We would definitely recommend coming here for a relaxing break and a de-stress. The wooden cabin was quirky and different to the usual place we would stay in! It was also very handy for cheap accommodation in driving distance of Sligo. Big thanks to John and the family!

Highlights for Visitors: Boyle Abbey: Our accommodation is situated within less than a 5 minute walk to the beautifully renowned Boyle Abbey, an impressive and well preserved Cistercian Monastery which was founded in the 12th century under the patronage of the local ruling family, the MacDermotts. King House Museum & Cultural Centre King House is a magnificently restored Georgian mansion located in Boyle, Co. Roscommon. Built in 1730 as the seat of the King family, a powerful landowning dynasty, the house later became a military barracks and recruiting depot for the famous Irish regiment of the British army, the Connaught Rangers. The house is now open to the public as a museum bringing its history to life. Home to the Connaught Rangers museum as well as the Boyle Civic Art Collection, the house also plays host to musical, dramatic and cultural events and is a central locale for the ever-popular Boyle Arts Festival. Lough Key Forest & Activity Park The famous Lough Key Forest Park is located within less than a 10 minute drive, it is an area of great historical interest and is comprised of vast woodland and numerous islands. The park which was originally called Moylurg was then renamed by the King Family as Rockingham Estate. A highlight for visitors is the views of the magnificent Castle Island, on which stands the original site of the Moylurg residence.

  • A perfect traditional Irish cottage, at the end of a little driveway with grass up the middle! Cosy, thoughtfully decorated, peaceful location, yet close to many hidden gems, walking trails, restaurants, scenic drives & places to visit. We were welcomed by Paul on a dark damp evening with the fire lit & heating on, the lights on, fresh bread on the counter and a stocked fridge & larder! There was plenty of firewood, board games for the children & a beautiful garden for us to explore....pity about the rain, or we’d have sat out on the deck to enjoy a morning coffee at every opportunity! Thank you Paul. Your place is a sanctuary! A perfect escape from a busy life🙏🏻

  • Had a fabulous stay at The Farmhouse. I was looking for a cosy place to retreat to and this was perfect. The house was very inviting and warm. The surroundings are fab and a great folder of information of things to do in the surrounding area. I would definitely recommend Carrowkeel. Paul also left some bread and milk etc and the house is well stocked with cooking bits ie salt, pepper etc. Also when it came to cooking there wasn't anything missing. Paul was quick to respond and helpful when my Google maps gave up on me! I would definitely recommend!

  • Comfortable and relaxing country retreat. The house has been recently renovated and offers a very welcoming and charming experience with a hot Stanley range cooker, open fireplace and wood-burning stove - perfect for relaxing on those chilly Autumn or Winter evenings. Mature woodlands surround the house and a small orchard to explore on your doorstep. A great getaway from the hustle and bustle of city living. Recommended

Knockvicar lies on the Arigna Scenic Drive off the N4 road from Dublin to Sligo It is where the actress Maureen O'Sullivan spent part of her youth. At Knockvicar bridge, Donal Cam O'Sullivan Bere, the Irish Chieftain, after his defeat in Cork in 1603 travelled through the village of Knockvicar where his people rested for the last time before reaching O'Rourke's castle at Leitrim village. In the late Middle Ages Knockvicar was the location of a Francisan house The Boyle River, which flows under Knockvicar bridge, connects with Lough Key via a weir and Clarendon lock gates 300m upstream. People can park near the bridge and walk along the towpath.

This beautiful house overlooks Lough Key & Forest and Activity Park. Our games room has snooker and table tennis. A nature trail leads down from the house to the shore of the lake. Wild deer & rabbits roam the fields and horses and Donkeys live by the house. The living area is on the first floor and so the views over the lake are beautiful. We organise speed boat trips around the lake and longer trips up the river to Carrick on Shannon. Best Fishing lakes and rivers in the country.
The house has exceptional views over Lough Key. It has its a private lake shore frontage which you can use for fishing, or enjoy with the animals, or paddle. At the property there are several fields to roam in. The house is hugely spacious and bright with the living area on the first floor to appreciate the views over the Lough Key and surrounding countryside. When you arrive there will be a welcome pack of Tea, Coffee, Milk and Biscuits, Bottle of Wine and fresh flowers. There will be logs for the sitting room open fire which is more for enjoyment that necessity as the underfloor heating works wonderfully. Unlimited Wifi free of charge
Lough Key itself and the surrounding landscape is beautiful. It is the best of rural west of Ireland and mostly unspoiled countryside. The area has many lakes and rivers, indeed the area is noted for great fishing and for many years has been a popular destination for anglers from Britain and France. The Arigna Mines are close by and It's Energy Centre provides visitors with a unique insight into what coal mining life was like in the Arigna Valley, since its beginning in the 1700's until closure in 1990.

  • An absolutely fantastic property in a scenic area, right on the shores of Lough Key. The views from the house are amazing. The kids spent most of the time playing pool in the Games Room. Rose is the perfect host offering tips for things to do locally. Totally recommend this place for a few days relaxation away from it all.

  • The Ark is an amazing place to spend a few days relaxing by the water. It feels very much like a fantastic little apartment on the waters edge. Great local amenities also right on your doorstep mean you can chill all day on the Ark, then stroll up for your lunch and a drink. The place was spotlessly clean, well kitted out and even has a superb shower (which is quite an achievement for something that floats) 10/10 - Would stay again!

  • We stayed here for a weekend and wish we didn’t have to leave. It was such an incredible experience waking up to the sounds of the river and the birds. Paddy was the most amazing host and a true gentlemen. He had great tips for the area and offered to help us with anything that we needed. The house was spectacular, clean, comfy and brilliantly designed (by Paddy!). The views and scenery are beyond words, we could have sat outside just watching the world go by for the whole weekend. We can’t wait to get back and have already thought about when we can come back to visit. Thank you so much again Paddy, it was amazing. Aisling and Greg.

  • Paddy is a great host, the place is amazing, definitely recommend!

    Veronika2019-09-22T00:00:00Z
  • ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Accommodation ! If it’s the gentle lapping of water complimented by the distant din of chattering birds; then The Ark is the place to book ! Spotlessly clean. Generous space in both the en-suite bedrooms. An ample sized living space with a fully equipped kitchen. . . And if that’s not enough, head out side and choose from not one but two verandas, over two levels ! We’re a family of four and we’ll be back next year for a longer stay. Lough Key Forest Park is only 10 mins away in the car- the children were spoiled for choice with the activities there. . . Well done Paddy on delivering such a streamline, homely, clean and excellently placed floating home and for sharing it with others ! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Host ! Thanks Paddy !

    Francez2019-08-26T00:00:00Z
  • 'The Ark' is a fantastic unusual property. The pictures of look great but the reality is even better. It is small but perfectly formed. It was perfect for our small family of mum,dad and 2 kids (10) and (12). The property is literally right on the water so it may not necessarily be ideal with much younger kids. Paddy was the perfect host, he was there to greet us, was always readily available should we need him but respecting our privacy and left us alone to enjoy our time on the ark. The weather was not the best while we were there so it was a pity we did not get to enjoy the outdoor space more, however, the fact the property is so comfortable and well equipped , we were more the happy to chill out indoors and watch the shannon cruisers go by! The kitchen /cooking facilities were perfect and we had absolutely everything we needed to cook dinners. Location is very quiet so is ideal for relaxing and getting away from it all. Plenty to do within driving distance of accommodation, we went to Strandhill , Sligo one of the days and the kids loved playing on the very steep sand dunes. We went to Zipit in Lough Key Forest park which is about a 10 minute drive away, great active day...great activity for our age kids. Also went to Arigna mines on a very very wet day, maybe not the most exciting thing you'll ever do but I'd still recommend it. It was interesting, the guide was an ex miner. Also always like to support local tourism when visiting a new area. I would highly recommend this property and most certainly hope to be back!!

    Carol2019-08-23T00:00:00Z
  • This floating boat house offers a very unique experience, one that we would highly recommend. The space is ingenious and the location is perfect for a relaxing few days. If you ever need to unwind or recover, this is the place to do it. Paddy is the mastermind behind the design and the build and he is an absolute gentlemen.

The kids loved Lough Key National Park which again is about a 10 minute drive away. Tracey was a great host who responded to questions really quickly. I would definitely recommend Tracey’s place.

  • This is a beautiful property in a peaceful area close to stunning local attractions. The outside area is great and the house itself is spacious, clean and extremely well equipped. This was our second visit to Tracey’s home (the first visit being equally good) - she was very helpful, made us feel comfortable and was available should we have needed her. I would have no hesitation in recommending this home for a holiday. We had a wonderful few days.

  • Ita's home is clean, spacious, full of amenities, and very close to a lovely little town called Boyle. The area is close enough to do day trips to larger attractions around the coast and cozy enough to simply stay in and relax. Ita was a wonderful host who was extremely thoughtful, kind, and always available should we need her. I highly recommend staying here if you can- we loved it and will be back. Thank you Ita!

  • Ita's place is in a quiet, scenic country setting just a few km south of Boyle, which is a lovely little town full of charm and friendliness. Her place offers everything you need and the most comfortable of beds! Ita responded almost immediately, even reassuring me not to rush when I was running late for check in. The kitchen is fully equipped, grocery stores are in town. It was an ideal stay. Thanks Ita!!

    Elizabeth2019-09-29T00:00:00Z
  • She’s a super hostess! With all she provided we could enjoy our mornings without heading to the grocers! Super sweet and thoughtful. Greeted us, made us feel so welcomed and after showing us the place she left us to enjoy! What a peaceful & roomy place! Super clean! When we knocked on her door for a bit of washing detergent she had it for us quickly! Would definitely stay there again! Peaceful yet close to great sightseeing!

    Jackie2019-09-04T00:00:00Z
  • Ita's place is excellent. It's immaculately clean, quiet, very private and a perfect base to explore the Leitrim/Roscommon hinterland, including Lough Key Forest Park, the Arigna Experience and Strokestown House. Excellent restaurants within 10/15 minutes drive. We wanted for nothing and never saw our hosts, unless we had a question, then they were instantly there. I went there to work and was able to do so, uninterrupted. My wife joined me at the weekend and we did lots of exploring, touring and eating. I would highly recommend this host and this property.

  • This was our first stay using AirBnB. Ita was an amazing host. Respected our privacy, the cottage/flat was immaculate, warm, clean, homely and filled with little finishing touches such as milk, bread, eggs & butter plus shampoo etc. Bed was divine! Excellent night sleep! Wifi, hairdryer and everything you would need was provided! It was very easy to find with the Eircode. Quick access to Carrick on Shannon where you can shop. Lough Key Country Park is near by. Perfect location for a couple who want a little R & R! We would most certainly stay again! Thank you Ita! Amazing host! Mr & Mrs Bond

The Farmhouse is set in a quiet residential area, close to an amazing array of adventures and activities. There are fantastic restaurants just minutes away and some top class restaurants 7 minutes away in Boyle or Carrick-on-Shannon.
  • Paul’s cottage is a great place to get away from the madness of life! It is beautifully decorated and relaxing to be in. The bedrooms were pretty and warm. The garden was a secret haven for our little one and the bee hives an extra treat! Also a perfect place to watch the stars!

  • Had a lovely stay at Paul and Oona's farmhouse. The house was absolutly gorgeous and so cosy with a beautiful garden : just a lovely quiet peaceful place to hang out in .Paul and Oona were great , very easily contactable and were very thoughtful hosts. Cereal, milk, eggs, in fridge and fire briquettes and logs left for fire on arrival . Great big aga stove in kitchen which was very easy to use and made the house so cosy and warm . Beautiful walks all around on quiet country roads and surrounding woodlands . Close to Tthe Arigna Mines, Carrowkeel passage graves, Lough Key forest Park, where I saw three red squirrels !! I would highly recommend this farmhouse as an ideal getaway for anyone looking for a bit of peace and quiet !! Thanks Paul and Oona for such a lovely stay. ! I thoroughly enjoyed it !

    Bernadette2019-10-17T00:00:00Z
  • Simply spectacular! We had the whole place to ourselves and it is a beautiful and comfortable, homey place. We did not want to leave. I highly recommend this place. It is idyllic and beautiful with spectacular gardens and surrounding areas. We took many, many walks in the morning and afternoon beauty. It was so peaceful and serene. It was exactly what we needed in the middle of our trip. As it is so close to so many attractions as well, it could be an entire trip on its own. Just stay here! 😊 Paul, our host was so helpful, and left us some groceries as well as fresh bread. It was quite lovely. This place was our absolute favorite on our entire trip. ☘

    Jane2019-07-01T00:00:00Z
  • Paul and Oona's house is incredible. A phenomenal deal for the price. A romantic 200 year old cottage about 2 minutes from the gorgeous Lough Key. The cottage has all the modern amenities but they have retained the rustic old world charm. The interior decor and furniture is just gorgeous. The garden and patio seating area are stunning. This is the second time my husband and I have stayed there and we will be back.

    Rachel2019-06-11T00:00:00Z
  • Staying at the farmhouse is ideal for those looking to escape and breathe the country air. Paul and Oona are wonderful hosts, friendly, accommodating and pay much attention to small details that made our trip one to remember. Thanks again. :-)

  • Such a beautiful and cosy house! Would highly recommend 😊

    Emma2019-05-19T00:00:00Z
  • Myself and my partner enjoyed a 4 night stay at Paul and Oona’s farmhouse. To say our stay was amazing is an understatement, everything was perfect from start to finish. The house itself has an elegant and serene atmosphere, the surrounding area is quiet and calm with beautiful trails and walks to enjoy right on your doorstep. I don’t think a single car drove by the farmhouse throughout our stay which is testament to how peaceful the location is. Paul met us on arrival and showed us around the house, he was good enough to have the fire lit and the house cosy for us. Oona and Paul were easy to contact throughout our stay. I would highly recommend this magical farmhouse for anyone who is looking to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city and to enjoy nature. We will definitely be back :)

  • We had a very relaxing time here. If you want a chill out space with peace and tranquility, this is the perfect place for you. The space is very modern yet has a real sense of heritage and history which blends really well. The walks around the house are lovely to include lots of woodland. We felt like we were away on an autumnal retreat. Great taxi service door to door available and reasonably priced for Carrick on Shannon. Only ten minutes drive to Boyle with nice takeaways. • The Ardcarne Lodge was exactly what we were hoping for. Brian and his parents were great hosts, so quick at responses and helpfulness. The house has all the amenities we could need and our family of 6 found it very comfortable. We came during a time of great rainfall so some of our outdoor plans were canceled, but we did enjoy just spending quality time in the house cooking together and hanging out. Due to the corona virus and new travel bans, we had to amend our reservation and leave earlier than we had planned. This was a bummer, however, Brian was so kind to credit us back the difference. We did enjoy a slice of Ireland and couldn't have asked for a better place to stay for our first trip! Definitely will be back!

  • Beautiful cottages with lots of nice details, cozy beds and a great living / fireplace room! We felt very comfortable here and communication with the hosts worked really well. Would love to come back!

  • Beautiful place and ideally located! Brian and Bernie are the ideal hosts!

  • Amazing place. One of the best Airbnbs I've stayed in. Will stay here again if I'm ever back in the area. Thanks for the excellent hospitality.

    Ronan2020-02-02T00:00:00Z
  • Brian and his family were amazing so accommodating and we enjoyed every minute. They introduced themselves and then left us to it. They had the quirkiest little cottage we've every seen we had such fun reading parts of the random books and taking in the beautiful scenery, rooms were fabulous and the whole place was so homely and comfortable. I would highly recommended Ardcadne Lodge. Me and the girls just loved every minute and we were genuinely disappointed to have to go the next day. We would definitely love to return again in the future.

  • It’s hard to imagine that all those glowing reviews are actually accurate, but the Ardcarne Lodge lived up to all of them when our family of 6 grownups and one almost 2-year-old spent 5 days there at the end of November. The house has everything you need, from ample non-IKEA dishes and at least 4 different ways to make coffee, to fluffy towels and excellent sheets and duvets. We instantly felt at home, due to Jim’s expert orientation and Bernie’s freshly baked scones and their very warm welcome, and the space worked perfectly for our group. You couldn’t ask for a nicer place to stay!

  • Peter was on hand to meet us. He left us cereal, milk and bread to get us started. He gave us good tips on where to eat and drink. The accommodation was excellent, spotless , comfortable and a great location to explore Boyle, which is a great part of Ireland. We didn't have enough time to do everything we wanted, so we'll be back, and wouldn't think twice about going back to Peters place. Excellent stay . Regards Lorraine McCann, Dublin.

  • We travelled as a large party of friends who wanted to spend new years together. The house was perfect - great communal spaces with the big kitchen table and the sofas. Kitchen was fully equipped and we were able to cook there quite a bit, which is what we like to do. The house was warm, welcoming and spotlessly clean. Would rent again.

  • My fiance, myself and our 6 month old could have stayed here for weeks. It is in the beautiful country side which is quiet with many directions to walk in. There is a local lake and forest area with walks and activities. What I loved was the size room. You can open up your bags and still have room to move. Trish had a cot set up for baby and the bed was great. Another great thing was the pressure in the shower. The bathroom was all lovely and new. The room was warm and Trish had even made us a hot breakfast in the morning. So relaxing and quiet.

    Giselle2015-08-07T00:00:00Z
  • We spent a lovely night at this B&B in a beautiful setting. Stunning views of the lake from the road leading to the house which is set far back from the road and was very quiet. Trish was a great host and very welcoming providing lots of info on the area. The rooms were large and the bathroom had a good shower. Kids particularly loved the trampoline at the back. Tasty breakfast served with a smile.

The former cottage has been renovated to modern standards, including central heating. It is situated among fields in the hills north of Lough Key. Enjoy a cup of tea in front of the fireplace (stove with a glass window) or go discover the wild romantic Northwest of Ireland: The house is located ideally for day trips to anywhere between the Cliffs of Moher and Giant's Causeway. It's perfect for up to four people, the fifth bed is a sofa.
On the ground floor, you'll find a big living space with a kitchen, wich used to be two rooms. There's a nice chaise longue and a comfy fauteuil in front of the fireplace, and of course a dining table with chairs. On the ground floor, there's also a bedroom and a bathroom with washing machine (control panel in German, though). A flight of stairs will get you to the first floor, where you'll find another bedroom with its own bathroom. The room above the living area is not rented out.
Our area is peppered with farms and houses, all surrounded by fields with their stone walls, mostly covered by hedges. There are two pubs close by: The Moorings at 1.7 km, and Clancy's at 3 km. Lough Key is the defining factor for the area, with its Forest Park on the other side of the lake a major tourist attraction. You can rent a boat there to go on the lake or walk among the treetops, for example. If you want to see the Atlantic, go to Strandhill, a mere 40 km. Galway is 120 km (2h), Donegal 100 km (1.5h), Enniskillen in Northern Ireland 70 km (1:15h), and Giant's Causeway 220 km (3.5h). There are loads of other attractions nearby!
